Title: Looking For Good Board Skins
Description: help please.
Captain Gabriel Foster - August 23, 2008 04:07 PM (GMT)
Hi, I told all you ladies and gents out there if I had any questions I would be back and now here I am again. Only this time I'm looking for some skins for my board.I was wondering if anyone had a good site that I could go to or if any one had some that I could maybe borrow or use. As of right now I am looking for a brown backdrop with some yellow, bronze, or gold boarders or trim. I am open to ideas and suggestions if I could get some help. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

We have a Skindex here at RPG-D that features a lot of skins made by RPG-D members, and
this documentation links to a bunch of other sites that offer IF skins if that's what your board is hosted on.

thanks but the link you sent, some of them were closed and down. Others wanted registration, which is all well and good , but none of the previews were what I was looking for. I will keep it for future use though.....Thank you. Is there anyothers places? How can I possibly make my own?It looks easy if you know the codes but Maybe for someone like me it could explained and walked through.

There are generators out there for the codes, you know.

Actualy, to tell you the truth I didn't know. This is my first time running a board and I'm really new to this. If you could point me in the right direction though, it would be quite helpful.
P.S. I just thought of something. Would a myspace code generator work. I think I have one of those lying around somewhere. Sorry if it's a dumb question, But I really don't know.As I said, I'm really new to all of this and only hope to get better at it with everyone's help here.

I wouldn't know if a MySpace generator would work, because I don't have a MySpace and thus dunno how they skin it.
As for a skin generator, it depends on your forum software, really. What do you use?

If your using invisionfree or zetaboards to host your forums; you can always check their forums.
Skins
Though if your not using invisionfree or zetaboards to host your forums then I don't think the skins will work.

I've found some good skins here, and there's no need to register.

There are also skins in our Skindex on this site.

To Greyscale- I am using Invisionfree.
To BenoitB- I clicked on it and maybe I'm a moron but it didn't show me any skins. thanks for the help, but it didn't work the way I was hoping. Like I said, maybe I'm just a moron and don't know what to click on.
To Roswenth- Thanks for the link. I think this one was the best one yet seeing that I found a couple that I might use if I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.
To everyone else- I'm looking for a light brown background with either yellow, gold or bronze borders and headers. If anyone here knows how to make them I would gladly put in a request for it. The only problem, is that (and you can call me a tightwad or a cheap ass if you want) but I have no money to offer in return, yet do I want to spend money on it. I prefer the free factor and willingly helpful people that would like to do one for me. I seen on a couple of sites that they want like 30 bucks for a skin and for my first time and possibly a board that might fail eventually, I am not willing to throw money away like that. Thanks for everyones help again. It's greatly appreciated and look forward to more help on this subject.

Skins are like going down an alleyway. It's hard to know where you are going, what you are going to use, etc. You have to be careful on what you choose: first impressions mean a lot.
I would suggest you go with something like Red Carpet & Rebellion. They have imageless skins, meaning they don't have images (except the background, haha). These are also a lot easier to edit than ones you can find on IFSZ.
You might also want to request a skin. You might find people like me who will just make a skin for you, but I also know several sites allow you to request some. IFSZ, for example, has a request system. They normally give good quality skins, and they most likely will make you what you want.
The Myspace Generator wouldn't work, sorry. They code their websites in two different ways, and I guarantee you that the Generator won't have all the parts of the CSS that Invisionfree has. It's a good idea, though!
Like I said, your best bet would be on RC&R or to request a skin from someone or some place like IFSZ. BTW, are you doing a pirate RPG? Unless that's just a banner in your signature :/ If you are doing a pirate RPG, even if it isn't PotC, there are several pirate skins at IFSZ. I also know that at Flame Tongue (http://rpg-directory.com/index.php?showtopic=16794), there is a Pirate skin. You might want to check those out.
Good luck!

If you have the capacity to make your own images, this will help you with the coding:
http://www.ifskinzone.net/applications/aio.../aioskingen.phpThere are plenty more out there, if ya want.

I have Photoshop CS3 but now I just gotta figure out how to put the two together, thanks. That should help me out.

You could try
skinning one yourself, or at least find a skin and modify it. :3
If you know a bit of CSS, you'll find it easy to modify a skin.
