Title: Sites With Midget Fonts
Description: I hate you
Gothic - August 22, 2008 04:52 AM (GMT)
Why the hell do sites have to have the tiniest bloody font they could use?
I hate having to squint to read the information on your site. Why the hell do you have to? I like things being easy to read, it helps for people who sit and read through the information as much as possible so they can understand the way a game works.
I'm pondering joining your site but now I'm not so keen.

I basically ignore anything in small font, whether it be people who insist on using microscopic font or sites in general. If they aren't willing to make it easy to read, I generally won't read it.
Exceptions being anyone in this topic who use small font, so I can laugh at them.

That certainly would be amusing Munch :D

*types ultra tiny just to be obnoxious*
Just kidding! Those sites/fonts/posts drive me absolutely bonkers too. Do they honestly think people are going to sit there and try to decipher all that? Likely not!

When I complain about tiny fonts I'm told I'm intolerant but now it's welcomed? >_<
Oh well. It's a turnup for the books.
Dooooown with tiny fonts!
Greymalkin - August 22, 2008 06:04 AM (GMT)
Count me in with the tinyfont haters and proud of it! I don't bother to read boards, ads, or even individual posts done in those eensy-weensy letters. All they do is mark the person a pretentious tool.
iJoker - August 22, 2008 06:10 AM (GMT)
I hate hate hate tiny fonts. I'll admit, I've changed my font to size one in a few posts and then when I went back and read them, I hated myself for it. I actually logged on to old accounts on dead sites just to change them. I RP with a person who block quotes and size one's every single post she makes. I hate looking at her posts. Hate it.
Not only are they harder to read, it makes things look less uniform. If you ask them why they use tiny fonts, they say it makes things look better. It in fact does not! It makes your post look different than everyone else's and in turn, that makes it look worse.
Grr.

My guess would be that the thread I believe we are both referring to was the outlawing of tiny fonts, and I'd suppose that people were disagreeing with the professional, Emma the moderator opinion - not necessarily Emma the human being. People do tend to get more defensive when their way of life is on the line, even if that way of live is only deserving of a walk-in oven
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. My memory could well be failing me in my old age. :p
{And yes, I am incapable of posting anything that won't offend anyone. I'm just cool like that.}
December, Esq - August 22, 2008 06:16 AM (GMT)
I ignore tiny fonts now. So if someone posts in a thread with tiny fonts, there's a pretty good chance I'm not going to read them. Everyone got fair warning from my in the outlaw thread, so no one ought to complain.
Catastrophe86 - August 22, 2008 08:30 AM (GMT)
The siggy on my admin account in my game is "I'm old and grumpy, therefore I choose not to read things posted in size 0".
TurkFox - August 22, 2008 12:29 PM (GMT)
I hate small fonts. I don't read posts in a tiny font (so if you've been posting on here in a tiny font, I've been ignoring you). I've got perfect eyesight, I can see stupidly long distances and I can sort of see in the dark. If *I* struggle to read it, what about lots of others who wear glasses or whatever?
I ignore sites that have small fonts, too.
Temperance - August 22, 2008 12:34 PM (GMT)
Yes tiny fonts are bothersome. I always have to set the browser to show the text bigger. Size 1 text goes but when people insist on using sub...argh! *mutters under breath* Especially with dark skins it is annoying. And even more annoying with dark skins with dark fonts.
Roswenth - August 22, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
What irks me just as much is when the skin creator won't let you enlarge the size of the font or make the text brighter. I'm sorry, I'm not 15 and I don't have perfect vision. If I can't see the text, I sure ain't gonna use your skin....
Carmen Sandiego - August 22, 2008 02:53 PM (GMT)
What annoys me more than tiny fonts is normal sized cursive fonts that are so intricate you can't read them. I don't care how much it looks like "real handwriting" if your real handwriting is chicken scratch.
SmathNa - August 22, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
I have a theory about small fonts.
I think the people who write in them don't want anyone to read their posts. They know, somewhere in the backs of their small minds, that what they've written is 98% misspelled purple prose, but they're on an advancedsuperliterary site, so they have to write in aesthetically pleasing enormous chunks of text. Posts become illegible chunks of text plus 'beautiful' RCR signature sets. It's a sophisticated and time-consuming method of banging two barbie dolls together. Because of course the point of it all is just to match up the two playbys. The writing is entirely superfluous.
Honestly. That's what I believe.
Tammi - August 22, 2008 04:26 PM (GMT)
My theory is that the people realize their content is tll;dr, so they make it look less intimidating with a small font.
To be honest, I hate sites with small fonts. If it is a writing site, part of writing is reading. How am I to read anything when I can't see it?
I have to zoom in a TON to read some sites, and in some cases, with FireFox 3, I can't zoom in any more and it cuts off the text.
But you know what's the worse? Small fonts in all caps. I saw a site posted somewhere that had a tiny font and the entire plot was in caps. I could not read it, and I couldn't zoom in enough to read it.
Seriously, if I can't read a site, I just close the tab. XD
Satire.and.Ice - August 22, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
The only reason I joined this one band rp was because some friends ran it. And the font was basically so unreadable that I had to zoom in like 3 times in order to read it.
About three days after I joined, we were getting guests begging for the admins to change the font. BWAHAHAHAA. Well, it's readable now, and no one's complaining. ^^ I really don't like huge font, but I want to be able to read it without having my face to the screen.

Haha. I find your current icon very ironic.
*has tried, unsuccessfully, to read all that*

Ugh I totally agree. The sad thing is though, a lot of sites are getting into it. It's ridiculous. I really stray away from those kinda sites now. It's to much. It's almost as if they wrote to much and are trying to scrunch it into the entire page.
forbidden x - August 23, 2008 03:41 AM (GMT)
Small font never bothered me until I got my laptop. For some reason it looks uber-tiny on this screen as opposed to my PC, which makes it really painful for me to read anything less than a size one. I tend to ignore anything that small just because of that discomfort.
Scaramouche54 - August 23, 2008 04:14 AM (GMT)
Okay, can I come over there and give you a hug right now? Like, seriously. I love big fonts. One look at my sig will tell you that. I hate things being really small. Especially on a site. I have kind of horrid sight as far as seeing things online is concerned to tiny fonts are evil. I'm one of those people who if I go to your site and the font is like size zero, I'm going to leave before your page even finished loading. I'd rather not get a headache trying to figure out your site so thanks but no thanks.

It's okay. I can't read it either.... XD
forbidden x - Even that font is too small for me. I have to squint.
Most people don't think about that fact that just because it looks one size to them doesn't mean it will be the same size to others, based on their display and browser settings.
forbidden x - August 23, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
Really?! It looks the same as the regular font on my screen O_O
Which is a case in point of your last comment, haha.
Tiny font in forum descriptions doesnt bother me as much as tiny font in actual posts, as I never really read forum descriptions anyway xD
But when I find myself confronted with a wall of miniscule text....well, thats when I click the shiny red X =D
(I apologize for any punctuation errors....I somehow turned on the french setting on my keyboard and now I cant figure out how to change it back x_X)

I so support that theory! I think you're dead on! Tiny fonts are up there with the most annoying things you can find on any site.
