Title: So We Removed The Character Limit...

Seanu - August 20, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
We said that people could have as many characters as they needed (which shouldn't really exceed 10..), but we said that they needed at least 20 posts on every account before they made a new character. Sounds fair enough, right? Apparently not. I mean, I have six characters, and bar my newest character who's only just been finished, all of my accounts have at least 25 in-character posts on them. And despite having adminly duties, I manage to keep track of all of my characters.

But recently, a member - who hasn't been around very long - made her tenth character. Accumulatively, her characters have a total of 40 posts altogether. That's 40 posts for ten characters. So is she roleplaying? Not really. I've seen her in one thread in the past few days, and even then she wasn't the last one to reply. She's abandoning two of them, asking them to be deleted. She claims that she's given one away to her friend. So that's still less than 40, over 7 accounts. It's almost 30, now that she only has 7.

And the moderator on the forum pointed it out to her that she has a lot of accounts. And she starts complaining. "But you said there was no limit" - even though we said they needed to be active. "Well I wasn't told that" - even though it's stated clearly in the rules. "Well how active is active?" - so we say over 20 posts per account. "But no one wants to thread with me" - because she doesn't bother replying to threads, creating new threads or talking to people about potential threads.

So she starts pming admins. She sends the moderator a message, saying that she was being rude. So I send her a message back, after the moderator forwarded the message to me, saying that "moderator" and "admin" were no different, and the only reason we didn't make her an admin was because we kind of sprung being a moderator on her without asking, but we knew she'd be happy to do it, but we didn't want to burden her and distract her from roleplaying.

And she pm's another admin, asking if she'd make a new account and plot with one of her characters, even though the admin just made a brand new character. And she pm's another admin, with a list of her characters, saying "you should plot with one of them."

And she's not willing to co-operate. She's just complaining that we didn't say anything before hand. And she even pm'd me, asking for the application she posted to be deleted (where the mod and admins have been saying that she has too many characters and not enough posts). And THEN she had the nerve of saying "I'll just post it later so I can be accepted." Because being accepted it a sure thing now, right?

And the mod is wanting to ban her. Yes/no?

Lady Hikari - August 20, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
I say not to ban her, but to definitely limit the number. Take away characters. If she cannot post correctly, then it's her fault and she should lose accounts.

So...maybe disable some of her inactive accounts. That's what I'd do. If she continues to PM and complain, then ban her for a period of time. You have rules for a reason.

Like Lady Hikari said, don't ban her yet. Delete some of her characters and if she doesn't shape up in a while and stop complaining because she didn't take the time to read the rules, the ban her. Maybe afterwards she'll get serious.

And hey, it's likely she'll get crabby and just go away if you delete some of her chars. She's not following the rules and ignorance is no excuse. I'd say either you choose or let her choose which ones will be deleted (give her a max she may have until she proves that she can be minimally active with them), then delete away. Make sure she has some warning of it though. If you delete them without any warning, she's liable to login and get mad (and understandably so)

Give her the choice. Nah, don't put it like that, but tell her that she can start with one character and you'll put the others on hold until she gets the appropriate number of posts.

However, I do have a question, though. How come she was allowed to have so many characters without meeting the requirements? Do you have an open application process?

Radsos - August 20, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
From the title, December, Esq, I think Seanu is saying that they removed the character limit, but she was there with a lot of characters before that was done, so she need not go through the 20-posts-per-charrie back then.

On the idea of how to handle her, don't ban her. That would probably only prompt problems that can be avoided if the right measures are taken. How about this, you tell her what you want to do. Say she can pick two or three of the characters (and only as much as three... maybe including the one she posted an app for...) and play only those characters and be unable to make any more until those few characters are active enough.

When she becomes active enough, give her another character or two. And the cycle goes on until she gets them all back - after that she can make more characters as long as she keeps the activity up.

If she refuses to pick the characters, then you can pick them for her and even tell her that that is what will happen if she doesn't pick 'em.

Also, tell her that if at any time she does not want to take the rest of her characters because she is already busy with so many others, then she can tell you about it and you can offer to either archive the characters or delete them.
