Title: What Should I Do? Revenge Or Just Watch Flounder?
Description: what would you do?

Sadiekins - August 16, 2008 07:09 AM (GMT)
Here is the situation. I'm an admin on a site. It's been a successful site no thanks to my co-admins. I've finally had the last straw. After they have done nothing to help the site and have belittled me in every way possible I'm leaving.

Now there are lots of things that I've been hosting on my image accounts.

Really they deserve me deleting it all and having the site full of broken image links. However should I do this or post a thread for them to get the stuff without having to host it on my account anymore?

What would you do?

Radsos - August 16, 2008 07:18 AM (GMT)
Well, either way could be bad considering your situation.

They could lose all their graphics and then what they MIGHT do is freak out and thus lash out at you and basically publicly tear you up without you knowing. But you will have the satisfation of taking something so vital as the pretty pictures from them (because that is very vital, even if most would like to believe that it isn't... and that includes me.)

Or you could post it up for a day so they could get the images and such and have no satisfation. And they still might whine and everything about you leaving and even raise hell about it because, hey, this means that they HAVE to do work to keep it active now.

Either way calls for them whining. Option two just might not make them whine as much and they may think 'hey, we won her over! she gave us free pretty pictures that we don't have to work on now!'

So I pick option one. At least you get to give them hell for it all.

rancidxdreaming - August 16, 2008 07:24 AM (GMT)
Well, honestly, I'd just cut ties. But then I'll also be upfront and say I'm "a horrible person" when it comes to this sort of thing. Whatever.

If they've been belittling you, and everything you've done, end them. Finish with a killing combo. I say DELETE and BE MERRY. If they were dumb enough to not back things up themselves, or to see this coming, then they deserve it.

But you already said they deserve it, so what's the moral dilemma here again?

chic ambition - August 16, 2008 08:07 AM (GMT)
I would say delete the graphics without telling them. The main reason is, you're leaving and they have been treating you bad. And it would be too nice if you tell them to host the graphics themselves. Do you think they would give you credits for the work? Since they have done nothing and have belittled you, I doubt that. You should let your inner little bad girl come out and help you this time. Delete the graphics and be happy!

Just curious... why it's you who have to leave the site? It's yours site. Can't you delete their accounts? Isn't there a rule called respect the admin? And since you're the one who did all the job, you're the main admin and the most powerful one. OOC drama is bad, but well, you're planning to leave, who cares? Just post a note or bulk email the members (to those who're nice to you.) and explain the situation to them. And then delete the other admins' accounts and turn the board offline. Of course it's only possible if you're holding the root admin account... but the co-admin are not thankful, so why passed the successful site that you made with sweat and blood to them?

That perhaps is a silly suggestion, so don't listen to me. =P

Don't forget deleting those graphics will also effect your players.

Do you want to get on their bad side, too? Because if you act out of spite, don't expect them to be sympathetic when you go and trash their board.

If you don't care, then replace the images with porn. That would be hilarious. Then claim 'haxx0red'.

Then, when you want to be a grown up, don't do the above and give the admins fair notice. 24 hours to get their own graphics or upload them to their own site, then take them down. If they bitch, do my favourite past time:

Block and delete.

AshBeanNun - August 16, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
Yes...the adult thing to do would be tell them you're going to get rid of the images, then do it. ;)

Having gone through a situation exactly like this, I know that if you are genuinely a good, hard-working admin, and they are genuinely lazy bums, all of you will get what you deserve. You'll get a great active site without lazy staff and they'll get a dead site because they can't mooch off of you anymore. Cut all your ties with them and don't look back.

I would do that but we are co-admins it's just I've been doing all the work. So I would delete their accounts if I had the title of head admin.

I've talked to members off the board and my leaving means the site is screwed. It's a Supernatural site and all of the canon characters (including to two main ones who the show is based solely around) will be leaving when I do because they've only stayed on the site because I was an admin. They will be losing another staff member as well and all of their major advertising because it is linked to my account on sites like here (where I've asked for the listing to be taken down).

AshBeanNun
That's the way I was thinking. I may even put them all up in a photobucket account just for the site because I don't want to punish the members who are staying. That's not fair to them. Neither is me leaving them in incapable hands but sometimes enough is enough right?

Thank you guys for your opinions.

Revenge is fun, but in this situation, I'd say it's a bad idea.

I was playing in an online survivor game once, and I was voted out on bad terms... so I decided to annoy my tribe by deleting the graphic I made for them, with all their pictures, and wrote some nasty messages to them.

It was amusing.

But, yes, I digress... I wouldn't do it. I think considering your situation, leaving with your head held high is in your best interest.

GreyScale - August 16, 2008 06:02 PM (GMT)
I agree with Brandon. Keep your dignity. Besides, if you ever want to start up a new forum and maybe want some easy members from your current one, you'd want to be on good terms with them.

You're already hitting the staff hard by leaving. That is enough.

Maruna - August 16, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
The other staff members are the enemy- Not the members. Deleting the images will ultimately make the entire thing look poor because of all the broken images, and... Well, a piss-poor looking site doesn't do too much to raise morale, and in my experience, when a single really active member, an important pillar like yourself, finally decides, "I'm done." and leaves, morale hits rock bottom. It's like one of the RP's parents dying. If you decide to take away something big, like the images, morale will go, below rock bottom. You could single handedly destroy the community. The members will either take your side on(Or simply accept the reasoning) the issue, or you'll come off as a fun-killing jerk who doesn't want people enjoying anything without you.

Once again, your enemy is the staff, The roof of the entire group. Don't blow up an ugly roof, if there's still beautiful people underneath it.

Royan - August 17, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
I agree with the others who say that revenge is not a good idea in this case.

This issue with hosting the forum images in one member's PhotoBucket account is a good example of why I always store all of my forum images directly within the site itself. All images are uploaded to a single images thread and then I hotlink directly to them through the Admin CP. The beauty of that is 1) If PhotoBucket goes down my images aren't affected and 2) If you want to change an image on your site (like a new banner) you just go to the post with the old banner image, upload the new banner to that post and the image changes automatically on the forum - without having to mess with updating URLs in the Admin CP.

I use InvisionFree....so I'm not sure whether this system works on ProBoards or others.

Akala - August 17, 2008 04:10 AM (GMT)
Ok please understand Akala's not the kindest person on Earth. I would personally probably remove all of the images hosted for them and let them deal with it. Especially depending on just how angry I was at them.

junebug! - August 17, 2008 04:37 AM (GMT)
I've actually gone through this before, and yes, I did take all the images down. I still regret it, to be honest.

I would suggest the following:
Politely email/PM them, and kindly tell them how you feel about the situation. Let them know that you are very furious of their lack of participation. While you wait for a reply, take all your things and put it on a different forum. If they don't answer soon (give them at least 1 week, maybe even 2), then let your members know that you have changed URLs, and ask them to move over there. Sure, you'll pretty much have to start over, but it will be a lot better then sticking around there where you are not the root admin.

When I took all the images down, I realized that not only had I still left them with a forum that had a lot of my text, they still had a successful forum. All they had to do was get a new skin & graphics, and voila! The forum was still as good as it had been when I was there. Sure, the forum suffered because they didn't work at all on it, but they still had the victory.
If you still want to take the images down, I suggest you try to take everything you made down, not just images.

Gothic - August 17, 2008 05:24 AM (GMT)
I pretty much agree with what most people have said.

Let them know that you're not happy with the lack of effort on their part. If you still want to have a Supernatural rpg, then you should make a new one where you are the one in charge. Then choose your own staff members to help you. You're a very dedicated Admin from what I have experienced with you. So I wouldn't worry about your members too much. Just give them warning to save everything they want.

if you're hosting the images you do have the right to delete them. Although you should ask them to save any they want and then delete them. Give them warning. If they harass you about it, ban them and delete.

P.S If you need help with a new board, let me know I would be happy to help you.

Hogwarts Unleashed - August 17, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
What I think you should do is go and create a new Supernatural site which is either the same or better than the one they have currently and, even though it's a lot of work, make new pretty images to use. Go back to the old site, tell them you're deleting the images because you don't want to host them anymore, you're cleanign out your photo host account and those are deemed trash. The members who are leaving that site will join you to your new, better site and the lazy admins will realize that they were lazy and now they have to work to clean up the site and all that jazz.

I hope that made sense... I'm really tired and things are making sense in my head but not translating to the text box...
