Title: New Idea
Description: disney meets school of arts
Sniks - August 15, 2008 05:25 AM (GMT)
So, I'm working on a new site and curious to know how many people would actually consider a site like this.
I haven't typed out the exact plot as yet, but basically it's a school of arts roleplay set in Ireland... Simple enough right? The catch is, the characters are actually, for want of a better word, parodies of disney characters.
For example, I'm going to be playing Mrs Potts from Beauty and the Beast, so my character will be named "Caitlyn Potts" A bit overweight, the mothering sort, loves to play match-maker...
You might choose to play the caterpillar from Alice as a stoner always high
Or you might play scar from the lion king as a seedy guy jealous of his brother's sucsess.
-shrugs- Just wondering...
Rhi-Rhi - August 15, 2008 05:33 AM (GMT)
...*DIES*
OMFG! xD Okay, that idea sounds absolutely FANTASTIC.
o.O If you made that game, I'd join it. In a heart beat.
(As long as the application process wasn't grueling and scary! D8)
But man. That appeals directly to my Disney fangirlism and sounds like such epic fun. Plus I've never heard of something like that being done before. I say do it!
Kesra - August 15, 2008 06:47 AM (GMT)
I'd probably give it a go too. In fact if you get it going, be sure to send me a link!
Sniks - August 15, 2008 07:06 AM (GMT)
Oh yay!
This makes me happy! At least I know I'm not the only disnyfangirl!
Hahaha
-gets busy site-making-
Radsos - August 15, 2008 07:36 AM (GMT)
I would love to join.
LOVELOVELOVE.
Seriously. It's brilliant.
Sniks - August 15, 2008 10:05 AM (GMT)
Aww! You guys are all filling me with hope that my site will be a sucsess!
Woot
I'm not entirely sure of the rules, if I can pm you all when it's done?
I'm sure I'll be adding it to the directory...
TyVen - August 15, 2008 10:52 AM (GMT)
I can totally echo the sentiments of the Disney fangirlism. And I think I'd definitely check it out it sounds as though it could be a lot of fun. Question though, why Ireland? I'm Irish myself and I never understood the attraction people have toward basing more mystical RPs here. Is it just purely to use Irish names?
Sniks - August 15, 2008 11:35 AM (GMT)
Well, I'm really over sites based in America and my other site is in england...
I was going to say france but that's getting over-done too... So yeah -shrug-
TyVen - August 15, 2008 11:45 AM (GMT)
Ah I see. Personally I would prefer a RP based in Ireland rather than France. I'm not totally sure why. Maybe because it's where I live. Or perhaps because English is our first language (in most of the country anyway).
It's a great idea I think and as I said before has the potential to be a lot of fun. If you need any help/info from a local be sure to give me a PM ;).
Kesra - August 15, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
Of course you can PM me ^^
GreyScale - August 15, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
Interesting.
You have potentially started a new genre of RP with this idea of yours. @.@
I can't say I'd join it, because it isn't my thing, but I cannot deny the appeal!
You'd just have to be careful of how you do it. You potentially have to keep track of who is based after who, may even have to consider canon auditions (depending on how OCD you are).
candy - August 15, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
*points to avatar* Yes I'm a Disney Fan as well ^_^
I would so join that!
Silvae - August 15, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
I love that idea! Sounds really awesome to me :D I say go for it, and be sure to add it to the directory here or put it in your sig so I can check it out when you do open it. Really like the concept ^^
junebug! - August 15, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
Well, wouldn't that be considered your typical fairy tale RPG, just Disney characters instead of fairy tale ones?
I would like to join, though :)
Another objection I have is that I don't think Ireland is a Disneyish place :/ *shrug*
Mac-a-roni - August 15, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Sounds really fun. Especially when I'm thinking of Disney characters, and I'm like- wow, those would be fun to play. xD Mufasa. The candlestick (forgot his name^^). The parrot dude in Aladdin. (I have a headache, excuse me if none of these really exist, I'm dying over here.)
I think you'd have a lot of interest in it. =D
TheDarkerDream - August 15, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
oh my goodness! I would so look into this, I adore the idea. I think it has the potential for some very humorous/interesting threads, considering all the Disney characters there are. XDD
We'd be allowed to play Disney villains too, yes?

That’s all been taken care of. We are right now compiling a list of the Twenty something movies we want to start (we will allow people to request movies not up there.) and having a place in the application where you claim your character. Because I really don’t feel like ten Cinderella’s all angsting after one charming XD

Not really no. It’s modern characters that have grown out ob the basis of a Disney character. There is no magic element at all. For instance, Ursula from the little mermaid will not have powers..

What is a disneyish place? There are Disney movies set all over. Ireland was chosen purely because it brings an interesting element of culture. Besides, you really don’t see too many rpgs set in Ireland.

Wow! I kinda love you. My biggest worry is no one would want to play the smaller side characters but you do so that’s awesome! I think those smaller characters are the most interesting.

Oh yes! What fun would it be without any villains!

Thanks! xD I'm not really interested in the Princesses'. :p I luff Jasmine, because she was my favorite Disney Princess, but too many people will want to play those type of characters, and they aren't quirky enough for me. xD
Make sure you post the links & shtuff when it's done. I'm all excited now. =D

You make sure to keep us all updated, hehe. ^_^

oreocookie12 - August 17, 2008 06:05 AM (GMT)
I would totally join. :) It's like a youngsters dream to be able to play out as a Disney character. I mean, how many times did you go around pretending you were Ariel or something? The fact that they aren't the characters EXACTLY makes it a bit more mature, I think.
Definitely PM when you have a link. :)
Sniks - August 17, 2008 08:17 AM (GMT)
Wow
<3
I love the response i've gotten. It fills me with happyness!
So i've finished the skin (at long last) and the rules and application is up. We have STARTED an epicly long character list... And I am now starting on posting all the other imformation needed to get the site started. So it shouldn't be too long now.
December, Esq - August 17, 2008 08:50 AM (GMT)
I'd give it a look. It definitely sounds interesting. *nods*

Well, there are fairy tale ones exactly like that, but whatever. It's still an awesome idea :)
Disney characters, if you look in the classics, are in a fairy tale land. They are in a kingdom, where there is a monarchy. Now, I'm not saying that Ireland is 100% a bad location, it just doesn't give me a Disney connotation. I suggest you just don't go with a location just to go with it. If you can make Ireland seem like a fairy tale place, then kudos to you! Sure, not every Disney character was in a fairy tale land (Tarzan, Lion King, Little Mermaid, etc. etc.) But the fairy tale land makes the Disney magic feeling all the more powerful :D
I didn't mean to offend you, though, on my slight objection to Ireland :/
Pwease send me a link! I would absolutely love to join ;D

I think, though, the point of the RP isn't to emulate the stories or anything of the sort. The characters are just based on the Disney characters - therefore they'd be regular people in modern world... just with the characteristics of the Disney characters.
Am I right? Or do I need to shush? :p

I think it should have some of the Disney magic if you are going to have the Disney characters. If you are correct, then you've basically just taken someone else's character, given them a new name, and slapped on the site that everything is yours, excluding Disney whatsoever. I don't mind Ireland too much, as long as it an be Disneyish. No, I'm not sayig you'll have knights, princesses, unicorns, etc. running amock. I'm just saying that the location should match how Disney is. It sounds more like Ireland was just put in there just because it's a cool place.
But I looked at the forum, and I'm very interested in joining at this point. I think you're are doing a fantastic job on it, and I like the school that you've come up with  You've done great work. Let me restate that I don't have too much trouble with Ireland at this point, as long as the Disney magic is still in there. It looks like it does ;)
Mac-a-roni - August 17, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
I kind of disagree. Magic is not always necessary. The fact that it isnt magical makes it even more unique.
It's not about slapping names on ones character. It's about taking their core traits and molding them into someone who can be walking down the streets. [I assume]. Thats kind of what makes me interested.
EDIT: [And this comes from someone who adores magic, fantasy, and all kinds of that stuff. ^^]

i think this sounds like such a great idea.
it's honestly original i personally think it would be super fun i'd join if you got it going.
the only question i have is would you make "canons" or premades for people or would it be totally up to them.
also would characters have to follow exactly what the disney ones would have done(ie. would beast and belle have to go out type thing)
okay i think i have more questions then i originally though i did(only because this sounds fantastic though i swear i'm not trying to criticize or anything)
if you do open this i would totally join.
great idea!

Oh gosh. On that note, please, please, please do not assign "play-bys" to "canon" characters. Please. There's nothing that's more annoying than having the playby already chosen.
Sniks - August 18, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
Wow
So I'm not sure how to comment on the Ireland thing, however I will say this:
Most Fairytales in the original form are set in their country of origin. For example, Beauty and the Beast is French, Peter Pan is English etc. So No doubt Ireland has it's own myths and fairytales..
| QUOTE |
| the only question i have is would you make "canons" or premades for people or would it be totally up to them. |
What we are doing is creating a list of Twenty some movies, with short descriptions of the original character. Then you are allowed to take that character and use it how you wish.

Yes and no. We are not looking to just recreate the stories, however keeping the structure of relationships is a good idea. For instance, Belle and Beast might have an attraction, but I might decide I think it's plausable for Mrs Potts to have feelings for the beast.. So who knows what will end up happening?

Ohno. I'd not do something as cruel as that. I HATE being told what pb to use..
