Title: My Name
Description: Grumble Grumble

The Dabnor - August 12, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
For more than a year now, I've run a Batman board called Gotham Knightfall. Today, someone advertised a board called Gotham Nightfall. I'm kinda grumble-y about it.

I mean, there are already two 'Why So Serious'-es and two 'World Without Rules'-es, but you could kinda see that happening by accident. Relatively speaking, they're fairly new boards and using phrases/ideas taken from The Dark Knight.

*sigh*

It's possible it was an accident/coincidence, but I still don't like it.

I know I'm probably being petty, so feel free not to need to point that out

It's just that people are too lazy these days to come up with anything of their own. Hm, I thought it was just my imagination, but there really are about two or three Why So Seriouses out there now..

Well, technically, 'Nightfall' could really just be considered another way of using 'Knightfall' which was an arch back in the early 1990s. I mean, that's what I always thought when I saw your board. I always just figured the name came from that. If the other one is a comic based board than it's even more likely that they just took the name from that comic arch and switched it around a bit.

What annoys me is that they are all terribly canon focused. Is there a single batman board where people can create their own heroes/villians? Apparently not. Every batman board I have scoped out has said something along the lines of "there are enough of these in the batman universe", which is true in a sense, but do ALL batman boards HAVE to have EVERY CANON ON IT? ugh. >_<

There are new batman boards popping up because the admins always want to take the most popular characters (batman/joker etc), and they can't do so on someone else's board so they do so on their own new one. Its kind of stupid, in a sense, but its very obvious why its happening.

Amen.

Oh, totally. I never claimed I was being original with the naming, just that we were the only board with that name. And now we're not.

I believe there are a couple, at least. Not mine, I'm afraid (but for different reasons). I'm pretty sure that the first Why So Serious allows original characters. I don't have a link for it handy, but I believe they're listed on here under movie or book based.

Very true. You just about never see a new Batman board where the admin hasn't claimed Harley. The thing is, even with TDK having just come out, there aren't a super huge amount of DC players like there is with Marvel, so these guys just totally split the potential member base, which is why a lot of these boards are already closing again. That, plus the fact that right after you've seen a film/read a book/whatever for the first time is the worst time to start an RP, because it's clearly just a whim and in a lot of cases, folks'll lose interest before too long.
