Title: Are These Rules To Strict?

SouthernHeiress - August 10, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
Ok im getting ready to open up a site. And i was wondering if anyone thinks if these rules are to strict. I try to cover just the basics .

The Rules
Here are the rules for the guild, and I expect every member to follow them. Unless otherwise stated, we will issue warnings each time a rule is broken, to a maximum of three, any further failure to comply will net a ban for an indefinite amount of time. This depends on the magnitude of the transgression however, don't think of us as unreasonable. Admins may add or change rules at anytime.Along this website has been changed to Rated R with a taste of NC-17 on most bases. Mostly because of Violence.

When Registering for a Character

*We believe you can only have so many characters per person so everyone can have a chance to play a person. So the most a person can have is four people. We're sorry for the inconvenience, however we believe that activity would falter should we allow there to be any more.

*In order to have more then four characters you must get approval from one of the main staff, meaning Rose,Ryan or Sam must approve you making anymore then four characters. Make sure your active with all your other characters before even bothering to ask for a fifth character and so on.

* DO NOT bug admins to approve your character. It will be done within 24 hours of posting the character bio. If this happens your character will be deleted.

*If you want to be the offspring to a canon character, YOU MUST clear it with the person playing the canon character first. if they do not give you the OKAY then you can not make your character the offspring.

*You cant reserve PB (Playby) for another Person/Character. Mostly because I think if a member who has already joined and wants that Pb they are more eligible to pick the Pb they want.

*All characters must be approved before you can rp them. if you do not wait the character will be deleted and you will have to make another bio for the character.

*Please do not copy your Bio from another site. You have to make it up. Unless you get permission from that person or site. It is clear that nothing is copyrighted unless you went to court and got the copyright yourself. However, copying seems to piss people off. This rule does apply to wiki and such other sites. You must clear it with an admin if you do copy the history for your canon from wiki, otherwise if we catch you get ready to do the bio all over again.

* You have FIVE DAYS to compelete your appliction or your username will be deleted. Unless you talk to a staff member if your to busy to finish your application.

When .Roleplaying
* You must post at least 3 times a week, if there's a reason, as to why you'd be unable to, please post a notice in the leave of absence thread. If you can't please let us know in the Away form. Or simply PMing one of the main staff (Rose,Ryan, or Sam).

* Please post at least three Paragraphs while Roleplaying your character.
-Though writer's block is a common pathology shared amongst those who've devoted their life to transmitting at the sentiments through lyric and text, one-liners are not entirely appreciated. We do not demand that you post a minimum of 2 paragraphs, but we'd appreciate something simple, descriptive and concise for other role-players to work with.

*There will be no god moding on this site. unless the other person give you the word to move their character around. otherwise dont do it.

*You are required to always remain 'in-character' when role-playing, for example, if your character's personality is described as though being impatient, and had a distaste for literature, you do not suddenly gain knowledge of complex literary works. Just as how a 'book-worm' personality will not allow your character to be comfortable around others beyond their social circle (if any), you've defined your roles, now stick by them.

* Please keep all sex scenes quiet and dont mention them in the cbox or anyone where younger members can read them. Everyone will be getting a password for their room if you wish to have one.

*This is for new members, just starting out or ones who are only allowed to follow this one rule regarding threading -- Characters are allowed to be in 3 places at a time. This means your character can be in three different threads at a time. We all know that sometimes other people in your thread take awhile and you get bored waiting. So this way if that happens you can also your character into another thread as you wait for someone to post in your other one.

*This is to only members who have been given the permission to have more than 3 threads -- If you are able to be in more then 3 threads and stay active with them all, then good for you, just let staff know. We'll decide whether you've been active enough to have another thread or if your thread is just dead, we'll get rid of the thread.

General . Rules ; ;
*There will be no making fun other people due to their race, skin color, sexaulity. Anything like this happens you will be right off the bat banned as we do not take kindly to those kind of insults so if you do it get ready to leave the board no matter who you are including staff as well.

*If you have any questions about the rules please ask on the Help Desk forum.

---Graphics must be no larger then 500x272. Any graphics larger then that will be removed by a member of staff. Due to the skin and such any graphic larger will stretch the forum. So nothing larger then 500x272 for banners.

***Also please leave all drama off the board. This is a place for people to come and relax. So we don’t wanna have to deal with drama as it gets very annoying. If any sort of drama turns up take it off the board and try and resolve it yourself the best you can. If the parties involved can not come up with a solution their selves then pm a member of staff and maybe they will be able to help you out.

Otherwise please just don’t start drama, I know everyone just wants to have fun and relax from the things going on in real life. So I want this to be the place to do that. So I cant stress this enough NO DRAMA!

* Do not Start any fights with the admins, we are here to help and our rules go for everyone on the board. So there will be no telling off admins no matter who you think you are. We are the ones running this site and not you. So for your own good do not tell off or fight with the admins because well it will only end bad for you and not us.

-So everyone please follow all the rules above unless stated otherwise. Please think before you act to anything on the board. Leave all fighting out of the cbox and take it to pm or off the board. Do not make fun of anyone, no matter what the circumstances.

* Us being the admins have the right edit or change any rules at our liking.
* We also reserve the right to make any changes we see fit to any character, location, or plot
* Us admins reserve the right to check any account of any member joined up with the board if we feel that dealings of a questionable nature are going on.

I don't think your rules are too strict, some are unnecessarily wordy.

You should make it a bit more simple and concise. Rules aren't supposed to be pretty. xD Just my opinion, though.

EDIT: And I just realize you kind of contradicted yourself. You asked for three paragraphs, and then lowered it to two. You should chose one of those. =]

I don't think you just covered the basics. I think you went too in depth- I'm a rule reader, I can honestly say I read each rule for each site, but I got tired of reading ramblings in the rules. And if I, who was asked based on a thread posted on a board to critique these rules, got tired of reading them I'd assume a potential member would as well.

Keep it simple, straight forward. If you have anything you want to direct members/add more specifics, try an on-site RP guide or an FAQ, even a site "mission statement" if it makes you and the admin more secure.

I don't think they are too strict, however. Pretty standard, hence the confusion for the over-wording, as Mac-a-roni mentioned.

This is definitely not just the basics, and I got tired of reading long before the end. I suggest you rewrite each rule into something short and concise, to make a more compact and readable set of rules. Plus, there are a few unfortunate wordings, not to mention a lot of unnecessary fluff here and there, that the rules could do without.

I think this is unnecessarily strict. Sure, you don't want to be bugged about applications, but deletion? It sounds very harsh. I'd change it to 'do not bug admins to approve your character' and leave it at that.

I'm not so sure this is true. As far as I know, all written works belong to their author, and it is illegal to copy the written works of others, regardless of whether they've been to court or not. Here's what I found after a little bit of research...

QUOTE (Copyright on the internet)
Copyright gives authors, artists and others the right to exclude others from using their works. Federal rights arise automatically when a protectable work has been fixed in a tangible medium such as a floppy disk or hard drive. A poem or picture is as much protected on a disk as on a piece of paper or canvas.

If you've restricted sex to private forums, I suppose this one is fine, but if not, I'd tell them to also mark their threads with something to signify that it contains mature material. In a realistic setting, sex doesn't happen just in private rooms, and there are other situations that could be offending to people.

Apart from the odd wording, I'd say this discourages people from joining. Personally, I usually don't get into more than two threads at a time per character because of time issues, but there are people out there with a lot of time on their hands, and that are able to keep up with more. Plus, this is setting yourself up for a lot of extra work if you're going to give your okay to every person who wants to be in more than three threads with a character. I'd change this one to 'don't get into more threads than you can handle'.

I think this sounds hostile, and that it kinda puts the admins above other people. As an admin, you have the right to make decisions concerning the board, but you're not better than anyone else, and in my opinion, people should be allowed to question your decisions. Being admin does not equal being right. I'd change this into a more general rule about being respectful towards everyone, and working out problems in a civilized manner.

QUOTE

Perhaps this should be changed to any canon character and sitewide plot? I would be rather irritated if an admin on a site made changes to my original characters and plots.
