Title: So, I Killed A Baby.
Description: Evilness in RP
Mousie - August 10, 2008 04:18 PM (GMT)
I, am a murderer.
I single handedly plotted the death of a baby. I actually started thinking she would die, before she was even born. I stood by and let my characters get attached, I wrote them having sweet moments with her, I watched as they developed nice strong bonds and let themselves believe that little Lauren Burdett was trying to play air guitar.
And then I killed her.
Now, does this make me evil? It was for a greater cause, yes, indeedy it was - but... it has to be asked. Do the morals that apply to general life apply in RP? Is it evil to kill babies? What is the most evil thing you've done, that you've plotted? How meditated was your evil?
I've been plotting the death of Lauren Burdett for about ten months. In vivid, graphic detail. It's... interesting to think on.
Hands up, all the murderers in the house - c'mon and lemme hear you say YOOOOOO!
AshBeanNun - August 10, 2008 04:28 PM (GMT)
Yooooo!
... o.O
I mean...Yes. I have plotted the deaths of perfectly innocent characters before. No infants yet, though. All the characters I've killed have been adults, though that's pretty much all I've ever RPed, so that would explain the lack of baby murdering.
The most evil murders are in my personal writing, not in my RPing. I have the tendency of killing characters off right after they redeem themselves for past mistakes. The deaths are all quite meditated...especially Darien Holywell's. I can't stand that jerk, I don't even know why I created him in the first place. Die, Holywell, die!
In the RP scene, the really evil stuff I do doesn't kill my characters. I just make their lives utterly awful until I feel that they've suffered enough, then I let them fade off into ambiguous happily ever after land...until it's time to make them miserable again. That's how you know I really like the character, if I'm willing to give them the crappiest life ever but not put them out of their misery. ^.^

I sent my perfectly sane character to an insane asylum for a few months and singlehandedly drove her to madness. She was a character that I had played for years and she was only 17, but I invented a magical insane asylum in Ireland specifically for the purpose of sending her there despite the fact that she was not crazy.
By the time I let her out, she had missed everything that happened in the site-wide plot and was extremely bitter that her friends hadn't come and rescued her. Everyone had essentially forgotten about her and she was eventually driven to suicide because of it.
SmathNa - August 10, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
Just had my main character on another site hit (not quite beat, but close; in his defense, she broke a bottle over his head first) his common-law wife and steal their son; now he's going mad with guilt. I've RPed raping someone, which was possibly the most disturbing thing I've ever done on an RP board... I've RPed killing several people, though not all of them were innocent--when you play a highway bandit, you're playing a highway bandit, yaknow?
When it comes to bad things I've done to characters, I have one who...
-was abused as a child
-had three of his fingers cut off
-was wretchedly poor (still is, is a serf)
-just started a revolution but has been taken prisoner in a coup and is currently tied up in a cellar
-is in a totally doomed relationship with a woman who is also a prisoner, and going to end up marrying someone else, anyway
But killing a baby is up there. That's next on my list, though--I mean, my site is a war site. It's going to happen. Rapine, murder, breaking babies' heads--all happened during the Crusades, for Christ's sake (pun intended, ironically enough).

Eh... yep, one of mine - quite a long runner for me at that at several months, has knocked off four people. (before you start yelling 'Sue' or words to that effect there aren't any police around to be arresting him on a deserted island). I think it in general depends on how you're going to go about it. Originally I very much botched the effect killing somebody else would have on the character, but as I've gone on, I've been adding a lot of guilt and self-doubt and other such internal conflict to say to people 'Hey. this isn't just a trigger happy psychopath, this is a person driven to extremes'. Death can be used to great effect in RP though. Depending on the background this can have more or less effect (considering a fair few characters die in this RP) but sure, death can have a lot of impact.
But in all fairness? It's not evil, RP is collective fanfic in my opinion, so I don't think you have to worry about having murder on your conscience Mousie, lol.
As for most evil... well, I had the mentor figure of one of my characters die rather pointlessly to start establishing the character (hey, they don't all die in super-dramatic heroic sacrifices) that was very pre-meditated, since I had known I was going to do it since before the start of that two week long battle (war RP). So... not baby killing, but cruel nontheless.
Deputy Dingo - August 10, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
To be completely honest -I- kinda killed the kid. But she roped me into it.
We didn't exactly have a few years to wait until it became 'more' moral and some people would say that killing anyone is wrong *shrug*.
I'm in therapy over it but other then that it went off well, right?
Temperance - August 10, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
YOOOOOOOOOO!
Most evil, I'm not sure. Maybe the time when my character was in bed with a man, slit open his throat and then pulled out his arteries, intestines etc by using a knife handle. Then she went off to meet up with a terrorist...to plot a whole lot of evil things.
Sure it's evil to do such things but if it's part of the character...it is. It's a story. If you kill an infant in a fictional story doesn't mean you are actually immoral enough to do it in real life. No need to feel like a total murderer XD Stories happen. Things that are cruel happen in the world every day, so why not in fictional world?
Rhi-Rhi - August 10, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
Haha, it's fiiine! It's just text and roleplay, not reality. :B Morals don't exist here. I view RP as pushing aside your own morals and writing from the character's perspective--and writing with the character's morals. And heck, if it'd make a good plot to kill a baby, kill the darned baby, durnit! xD
Hmm...most evil? Uhh...
- One character smothered a sick but recovering character in her sleep, after another character worked hard to save her from a poisoning that my guy was responsible for. Now the healer is beating himself up thinking he did something wrong and that's why she died, while my sociopath dude is consoling him and feeding him comfort food. |:
- Another killed a character slowly with a degenerative curse that lasted years before, finally, said character died. Then he killed her brother in a nasty fight. He was taken down after that, and the girl revived (after my guy was grievously injured, and since she'd been dead, the curse broke, and she wasn't dead long enough that resuscitation wouldn't work). My guy lived and went on to kill another character--after which he got his arse handed to him and ended up tortured in a prison. Then his kid was kidnapped, his lover committed suicide, and the kid was killed (mind, him being tortured wasn't my idea! That was a natural consequence of his actions. And the kidnapping and suicide and stuff wasn't my idea, either--that happened when the person that played his lover and kid had to quit, so that was her way of writing them out of the game. Gah. xD).
After a crazy series of events, he's now currently involved in the kidnapping of two important people (his motive for the kidnapping? To get his daughter back--he doesn't know she's dead xD). It sounds really bad summarized like this, but I've been playing this character for roughly five years so everything makes sense spread out over all the storylines and threads. Needless to say: this guy has MAJOR ISSUES. He's a difficult character to play because he's just gradually gone more and more off the deep end. xD;; His life is such a trainwreck.
- I created one character recently knowing from the very beginning that she is DOOMED. I'm a horrible person and am letting her get attached to the other characters, letting them get attached to her, and her brother is another of my characters. Eventually when the time is right I'm gonna pull the rug out from under everything and send her off to her death (I like her too! Bah!) but it's not without serving a greater plot purpose! There's a motive behind the madness.
Uhh...yeah! I know I'm forgetting some things. :\ My characters have killed others, abused others, been abused and killed themselves, been tortured, tortured others, betrayed others and been betrayed...can't remember if I've had any characters kill any babies, but I have one character who would. >_>
Greymalkin - August 10, 2008 09:31 PM (GMT)
I had a character who killed a baby once. (Chill's Creature Feature, where you play the monsters). Surprised both myself and the GM, but I couldn't bring myself to play the character after that. Too squicky.
samaside - August 10, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
I'm all down for the evilness (though I admit I did something of a doubletake after reading that thread since I'd been gone for so long).
On one site that unfortunately died I had probably the single most happiest character on there. Seriously, everyone else had some sort of drama or thing going on. Except Danny. Of course, Danny's arch nemesis was a serial killer he'd put in jail when he was younger and that character had escaped from an asylum and was on a murderous rampage going so far as to plot out the murder of one character and attacks on a couple others - including Danny. He was going to carve his name into Danny's chest and make take off a finger before someone caught him. An avid fan of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, I figured a missing finger would make it more challenging for him. :D
Never did happen, though, sadly.
I've got some plans for characters in Take Back The Night that aren't going to be pretty - literally.
Gotta keep things interesting, you know? If you don't, people get bored. Rather, I get bored. Back when I was younger I exploded a planet - reminiscent of Alderaan. Actually, it was a Star Wars game and they were trying to make a point similar to that of the Empire. Actually winded up killing several characters that people were playing who had been on that planet.
In a dark HP AU game I had a young man who was unable to use magic without becoming physically ill and drained after a weeks worth of torture and an unknown curse. I did the same thing with a professor on one board. On Batman boards I like to play Jason Bard because he has a pretty angsty backstory and is just fun. He was kneecapped by a baddie when he was younger. Fun times. Characters that have to struggle are fun.
Kitay` - August 10, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
I'm not evil!
I'm just psychopathic XD
Hum, I've plotted all of my character's deaths, but unfortunately only one has come to fruition yet-
I dont think morals count in the rp world. Everything is supposed to be exaggerated and dramatic. If everyone was normal, rp would be boring.
Anyway here we go:
Forced a mother to abandoned her young children and disappear for almost their whole lives, causing them untold problems
This was a collaboration, but had the brother of my character viciously rape her and force her to carry his children.
It's okay though, she got him back by dumping them at his feet with a big FU.
One of said children bonded with her brother only to discover she had slightly romantic feelings for him, left him, they made up, and deciding they were both scum killed themselves.
And my favorite bad guy, ever, Tyrander<3 Lesse. He killed his dad and had his mom imprisoned. Then he proceeded to take control of every 'clan' of his species (this is a fantasy rp, with shifters), and turn them into a massive empire run by him as a dictator. Oh, and he also raped a female of the race he hated most, got forced to be her mate, got her pregnant, scarred the daughter for life- literally- murdered the woman, made the daughter's life a living hell. Then for publicity's sake (see, nobody knows the real Tyr) he forced a young girl who opposed him to be his mate, completely breaking her and forcing her into this state of semi-existance where she lives for him only. And he's actually gotten his daughter to join him ;D Even though she plots his death every day.

LOL. I love that. Is it bad that I think that's absolutely awesome? XD
Anyway, things I've done to characters, though I've yet to play most these out 'as they're happening', unfortunately. I think some of these things would be/would have been very interesting to play.
1. I had a girl who... well, she was definitely a happy, smiling, loving, family woman, if nothing else. She adored kids, and her partner, more than anything. She was the kind of person you want to see being unbearably happy and protect from all things evil. So I killed her son, her little baby boy, with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome while he was sleeping beside her one night. This pretty much killed her inside, and, what's worse, was that it pretty much made her partner dispondent for years as well... She had no one to lean on, and her marriage was in ruins. She focused on her remaining son, turning him into a spoiled brat with her overprotectiveness.
2. Another character had a few different incarnations, but throughout those incarnations she's always had certain things in common. She was a species supremacist, and a cannibal. Even a rapist in one incarnation (then she ate the person she raped, of course). She enjoyed killing people immensely, lets just say.
3. Then I've got a vampire, who of course has killed people. But that's the least interesting thing about her, I think. Again, she's a rapist who eats people when she's done. She's very... tortured, though. I seriously feel bad for her. I should note that this character is a lesbian, just to get that out of the way, because it's an important part of understanding her character. We'll call my character B, her best friend Y, Y's brother I, and their sire H.
Anyway, B had to marry I because that was what was expected of her to do by her family, even though she never loved him. Then she found out she couldn't even have a baby, and he started sleeping around. She did get away from him, running away with his sister, Y, but then they were both turned into vampires. The guy who turned them, H, was in love with my character (...who obviously didn't reciprocate), but Y was in love with H. Y didn't exactly like finding about the fact the guy she loved was in love with B, and she lashed out at both of them. B ended up killing the guy, and locking Y up. Y went insane. B, feeling sorry and responsible, decided to take care of Y for eternity to make up for it. So, she's pretty much this woman's slave for centuries, though she basically enjoys it.
I should say that B's gender identity has been a little screwed up by all of this. She hates men, but has been driven to become predominantly 'masculine' in personality and function while taking care of Y. She takes care of Y pretty much like a very loyal and doting husband would, and her personality has adapted and changed and solidified over the years to something that's either more gender-neutral or somewhat more masculine than feminine, though she is a hopeless romantic.
Then, and here's the fun part, B fell in love with Y. Madly in love. This is the kind of single-minded obsession that serial killers and rapists are made of. She hides this from Y, because she's so afraid of the possibility of losing her friend over this, but it's pretty much left her a little mentally unstable over time. Hundreds of years of wanting one person. To try to combat this, she's taken to... releasing her sexual frustrations on other women. That's not to say she's not sometimes quite loving, if she can somehow delude herself for however long it takes into thinking this woman is the one she wants but, ultimately, in the end, that girl is going to be eaten for food.
Now that I'm going to revive this character soon, we've added even more: Y's brother, I, came back into the picture after all this time, and is the leader of a vampire coven. Which Y joins. And B has to follow Y, so she's been made to join too. B hates this guy's guts, to say the least. It should be fun to play, but I don't know where it's headed yet, of course. XD

Evil things my charies have done:
-Premeditated murder
-Murder
-Rape
-Cannibalism
-Torture
-Aid in the growth of the RPG's big baddie
-Self-mutilation
-Mysoginistic behaviour (including rough sex)
-Substance Abuse
-Child Abuse
-Treason
-Big fat lies and manipulation.
- Emotional torture (both intentional and not)
Basically, although not everything had been RPed, my characters have done pretty much everything save for incest. And I include the NPCs attached to them, it gets worse... with incest included.
I'm a character torturer. All my characters are messed up to some degree, some suffer, some cause suffering. My current character, who arguably has suffered the most (voted most tragic on the site, woo!), started out as my first non-troubled character. Not deeply anyway. Just in my first post I started his constant spiral down to emotional hell, and now, well, Mr. Tragic. I'm honestly proud of it.
Happy, fun characters are great, but they're boring. You need another dimension, and that dimension always has death or abuse in it. Always.
secondrisings - August 11, 2008 12:52 AM (GMT)
One of my favorite characters that I ever used was a systematic serial kidnapper. : ) Granted, he only kidnapped/mentally tortured other criminals, but still, he was pretty messed up (although he had most of the characters on the site convinced he was a pretty nice, genuine sort of guy). Best thing-- he wasn't crazy, not in the normal sense. He was, actually, very intelligent, educated, and not particularly mentally ill. Really, it was just one vigilante act that pushed him to it years and years ago and now he mostly just likes the adrenaline kick and the fact that it is a lot like a logic puzzle to him-- how do I do this without getting caught?
Aside from him, I also played a man who ordered a bride online and then proceeded to beat her senseless on a frequent basis before she ran away. Then, instead of letting it go which he can't do because he has an ego the size of an elephant, he put oodles of money into hunting her down and ruining her new life to the best of his ability, both mentally and physically. Oh, and attempted to take out a few of her friends/new lover(s) in the process. Nice guy, right?
That's pretty much the "worst" character I have ever had, but I do find some sort of sick fascination in putting my characters through as much crap as they can tolerate before they crack... and then seeing what happens. : ) That's almost the best part in my opinion, how a character handles the very worst things that can be thrown at them. Conflict causes character change (yikes, so many 'c's!) which is what keeps people reading. As nice as it might be, no one wants to plod through a story about two people having a pleasant afternoon tea and getting along just swimmingly unless right afterwards one of them chokes on a poisoned cucumber sandwich or something. : ) So, honestly (and this is coming from someone who is a pretty moral person in real life) I don't find anything wrong with having characters do things that are societally frowned upon. Authors do it all the time, after all.
comte - August 11, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
I've been there too - killed off a 2 year-old child for the sake of bringing together two tortured lovers back together. It was the best way to make them bond again. Granted, we had the male nearly die as well in the process.
I don't think that's the worst I've done though. I once had my sweetest character kidnapped and tortured, driven slightly nuts by the mental threats of her kidnappers. They didn't rape her, but they did molest her. And she was scarred from it.
I also had one of my character's brother-in-law hold hostage my character and her newborn, threaten her husband with killing them, and then shoot the husband (nearly dead). It in turn made the newborn deaf in one ear.
Joscerelle - August 11, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
I once was in a Historical Vampire RP where I played a vampire that loved women so much that he only killed them. Men were dirty, and quite boring... also since he got sort of a sexual pleasure out of killing and feeding off women it felt sort of homosexual to him to kill men.
So anyways this character was pretty entertaining in a very violant way. In one night had had managed to kill a virginal bride on her wedding night and then go into a church with a fellow vampire, pretend to make out and have sex on the alter to get some attention. A priest and a nun came out to see what the fuss was about and then the female vampire he was with tortured and killed the priest and he did the same with the nun.
Needless to say my vampire was pretty old, so years before this he actually made a companion for himself by killing her sister in front of her when she was 12 and then came back at several points in her life to check up on her and bring her gifts. Every time he found her with a man, since she was a prostitute he would kill that man for touching his property. She was finally made into a vampire when she was 20 or so; but the post between the two went on for pages and pages. It was fun.
There's nothing wrong with this. It's all fiction and I'm sure there are others that write worse.
Just as a little known fact, I've seen an article where they said women write more sadistic and horrifying fiction than men; because we have a tend to delve into how we can hurt people mentally before we can take them down physically. We play games and the more twisted the better. I wish I could find this article again so I could cite it, but alas it was years ago. -.-
Vanity - August 11, 2008 09:22 PM (GMT)
I killed my character's mother one week into the RP, and my character won't be finding out for months. When she does, it'll completely wreck her, simply because she was away at school when it happened and her family didn't tell her because they didn't want her to worry.
Right now I'm plotting with a teacher so that she can get caned, because the school believes in corporal punishment.
Making your characters suffer isn't evil, though I've never actually killed a baby. I did have a toddler struck by lightening, though.
