Title: Coming Soon?
Description: to a browser near you...

stormyhearted - August 10, 2008 02:49 PM (GMT)
Inspired by a suggestion in the Q&A section; I also think a board dedicated to sites opening soon would be overused and maybe not that helpful- but at the same time, I'd love to see what the members of RPG-D are working on. So: no links; if someone is interested, they can pm you or something.

I'm building a multi-game site called Dreaming Out Loud; I don't have a set opening date yet, but I'm aiming to have everything finished up in the next week. To start, it has three games: North of the Wall, which is set in the world of Garth Nix's Abhorsen/Old Kingdom series; Lost in a Dream, which is an original fantasy with an alternate world very loosely resembling Ancient Greece (only with magic); and Take the Sky, which is set in the 'verse of Joss Whedon's Firefly/Serenity series. I would, eventually, like to add more games, but first I want to get these three settled in and running.

What role-playing game(s) are you working on?

sarahj - August 10, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
I have a RPG based on the series Dead Like Me that's been all set up and ready to go since April, but between school, sickness, family problems, and random injury, my co-admin and I haven't had the time to open it. It's very depressing, but we didn't want to open it before we had the time to devote to it that it deserves.

AshBeanNun - August 10, 2008 03:35 PM (GMT)
I have a couple projects on the backburner. There's Indigo City, a Wild West-type RPG. A fairytale RP that asks the question, "What happens when two proud and prickly rulers get divorced?" (They divide the entire country in half, of course!). And my friends and I have been working on a Clue roleplay for quite some time. AG takes up a lot of my time now, so I have no idea when all those will actually open.

SmathNa - August 10, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
I have an offshoot of Thiasa that focuses only on a simpler plot--the created Sioux/Aztec-based culture I made up--as it was in the past. It's called 'Beyond the Beginning.' I don't know if I'll open it, since we get plenty of that play on Thiasa, but it might be fun in future. I'm also working on a board based on a more realistic therapeutic boarding school (well, I attended one for two and a half years, so I know what it's like) wherein people actually follow the rules (i.e. no sex and drugs or you are expelled--and there are no secrets there). Not that it isn't still incredibly dramatic--it is! It would just focus on character psychology, friendships, platonic romance, etc. It's a weird idea, because being there wasn't that fun; it was very stifling, very difficult, very painful, and very hard to explain. It was also an experience I wouldn't give up for anything. Since I'm writing a story about it, at long, long last, I thought an RP would help. It's going to be quite difficult to pull off.

I think it's kind of cool that you're taking your experiences and making something creative out of them. Most (all?) people who make those kind of schools into RPGs have never been to one, so it'll be interesting to see how yours turns out. xD I'll have to watch for a link in your sig or something!

As for my own projects, currently I am slowly but surely working on an rpg called 24-7 with Nda and Seanu, it's based off the Truman Show (movie with Jim Carrey) where basically a bunch of people live in this fake town where they're being filmed all the time for a tv show, but they don't know it's fake, or that they're being watched. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the idea in a nutshell.

I've also had the idea for a space colony rpg sitting in my mind for a long time now, it'll prolly be a year this November or so. It's kind of like real life, but in space, and there's an optional site-wide plot where your char can lose part of their memory and mysteriously gain mutant-like powers? xDD lol. It makes more sense than what I'm saying, I swear it.

aaand as of yesterday, me and my best friend/old co-admin are bringing back Cauldwell Academy, an RPG we had open for two years, but we're making it more city based .. Kind of like a real life HP thing, but the original plot (Muggles find out about Wizards due to some crazy extremists, thus starting kind of a revolutionary world war -- ohnoes!) is still there. We're quite excited.

I also have an OOC HP discussion/support board coming sometime? rofl. I'm busy.

Alandree - August 10, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
Well my 'coming soon' is a PotC RPG. I started it several years ago, but it died out unfortunately. So I've started anew, and all I'm waiting for now is the old members to come and claim their canons while they can. They haven't though, so it will be open to the public soon. I'm trying to think of something interesting that might set it apart from others of it's genre, but I'm a bit stuck. >.<

LadyLust - August 10, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
Coming Soon an Rp called Grim Haven which is in a different realm but connected to the human world. It was found during the witch hunts, and demon hunts. It is a place where the otherworldly creatures could find peace and refuge. Only their is a new Principal in town and she's turning everyone's world upside down by allowing humans to attend Grim Haven Academy after the local high school mysteriously burns down. It wasn't like the town didn't know those creatures existed, but they tried to keep their children as far from the creatures as possible. So it'll have all the basic dramas of teenage life mixed in with weird powers and much much more. XD

I hope if goes off well... its my first time making my own site. It's coming along smoothly enough. i've had the idea in my head for a long little while. lol.

Brandy - August 10, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
I've been working on Dark Dreams, a Beetlejuice/Netherworld based RP where you play as either a Beetlejuice canon or an OC, dead or living. You can be a psychic, and able to channel and speak to the dead, or just be 'strange and unusual' and also be able to speak to dead people. Or, you can be dead, and in varying states of death and decay.

Link me when you open that ^-^

I've been running through a lot of RP ideas as of late. For the past month or two I've been working on a not-so-original realistic oldschool wolf RP. The kind that doesn't care if you're a genius, that has allies and enemies instead of affiliates and focuses heavily on IC rather than OOC as most seem to these days. It's taking forever due to attention span and layout on my part. It may be old in its ways, but its look is gonna be completely new.

I'm also thinking of reopening a city RP I used to have, Undrgrnd. Maybe under a different name but probably not. It did well when it was open till I lost interest (but that probably won't happen again. I'm just getting back into everything I lost interest in x.x). But I'll have to talk to my second admin on that one and probably recruit some more staff members to help update everything. I'd just use the old layout and everything though 'cause it was really cool xD

junebug! - August 10, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
As my sig says, I've been working on Coruscant Streets. It's a Star Wars RPG set about 200 years after Luke, Han, & Leia. (It is set in the year 214 ABT, to be exact). The plot is that the citizens of the galaxy put a man called Lucifer Gagnon into the head position of the galaxy. However, they were not aware that he was an evil man who planned to destroy all that is good in the galaxy (similar to Hitler!). He calls his group the Sith Prestige. Although they call themselves Sith, most have no sort of midi-chlorian influence at all. A group, Rebel Underground, start an uprising against the Prestige.
It is going to be waaayyyy cool, probably the best RPG I've ever worked on thus far. :)
We hope it will be out sometime this week/next weekend.

Some others is Strawberry Swing, set in the 1950's in Hollywood (that one has been put on hold because all the Admins are busy).
I have others in mind: 'Til Kingdom Come (a pirate RPG, however, it is not a Pirates of the Caribbean RPG), Ribbons & Romance (french revolution RPG). Others would be a Candyland RPG, a camp RPG, and a small town RPG. The last three haven't been thought out well enough, and TKC & RR are loosely made at the moment.

SpazzyMal - August 10, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
I'm actually working on two right now, both with Carbohydrated.

First is my alternate universe DC Comics roleplay, actions speak LOUDER THAN WORDS, which is like... my little baby. If I didn't love it so much, I sure as hell wouldn't be putting in so many hours working on it, because it's a lot more work to have a real canon list than to not have one, like most other comic roleplays. Most comic sites just go "find your own canons!", without having a set list to go from or, if they've got a list it's just names, and I thought... "Why not give a basic rundown of all the characters, so that people unfamiliar with the comics can find who they'd like to play easier?". Silly me, because it's a monster from the very deepest depths of hell since it's so extensive, let me tell you, and it's taking forever to complete. But it's going to be pretty awesome when it's finally done. XD

Anyway, that was a huge ramble, here's some more useful info: I've got Gotham City, Metropolis and Themyscira set up to be the main roleplay areas (Yeah, I thought of a way to get Themyscira to be a more active place than just 'home of the amazons' would make it be.), but there is no real plot, as of now. I'd like people to mostly make their own stuff happen, though I do certainly plan on having many events happen, both on a large and small scale. There's plenty of built-in conflict to play with though, of course, it being a site with a ton of heroes and villains wandering around.

The other is a vampire roleplay placed in New York, and it's very much "in the works" right now, so we don't have much about it set in stone yet. Not even a name, and we haven't even talked plot. Though I think it's safe for me to assume the plot is pretty much going to boil down to "vampire conflicts!". XD We've got four distinct types of vampires, and are mostly working on fleshing each of them out to make them unique and distinguishable, as well as getting our canon list set up. Thankfully this canon list is about a million times easier to make than the asLTW canons, otherwise I'd be pulling out my hair.

We're not sure when either is going to open up, be we assume they'll both be up and running before December rolls around. The unnamed vampire roleplay could easily be done before asLTW, but Carbie also has school stuff to worry about, so we've got no set dates for trying to open either up yet. But they are coming.

samaside - August 10, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
I'm working on Take Back The Night at the moment.

It's a post-apocalyptic game set in Stockton, California after a zombie infection wipes out most of the world. It takes place in five distinct places; a university residence hall, a fraternity house, a high school, and a pair of side-by-side malls. The main idea is to build community, fight for resources, work together, etc. Stuff like that. It's more about the people than the zombies. There are going to be board-wide events and all that.

Problem is, I'm moving to South Korea in about seven days. So I need a co-admin on this side of the Pacific. I haven't looked for one, though, so... who knows when this is going to happen.

I've been working on a fantasy RPG called "Faeralithe." Not much has happened with it, mostly because I'm trying to decide whether to use IF or PB, which is like the lamest excuse everrrr. x.x Anyways, it doesn't really have a specific plot. I'm really going to focus on setting and character development and things. ^_^ And I want to make it... I dunno... something that people will stick with?

Keeper of Secrets - August 11, 2008 03:41 AM (GMT)
I'm working on an original fantasy role play game with two others (that I met on here, actually). It's set on earth in a medieval setting, and basically revolves around three kingdoms. And...

...Yeah. That's the gist of what we have at the moment. XD I think we're aiming to have it ready in a month or two.

ShinLi - August 11, 2008 08:11 AM (GMT)
I have waaaayyyyy too many ideas for RPGs to ever make them into open boards. RPG-D just keeps me too busy lol.

Atm I have a Star Trek based RPG almost ready to open. It's just that I haven't had time yet to finish up the last things (graphics, some coding, looking over evertyhing etc. etc.). I do wanna open it sometime though, I'm just gonna have to see how busy I'm gonna be with school (as I'm starting a new education in one and a half week or so).

Then I'm also working on a Fable based RPG, I'm working together with another member here from RPG-D. While my Star Trek RPG is soemthing I work on alone, so I can put it back in the shelves as long as I'd like to lol. This one we just started working on, and steadily but slowly it's coming together, however it's still in it's starting up stages. We've decided to set it in an original land called Eloysia, instead of base it on Albion from the game. Which gives us a lot more freedom in creating the world. It however also means it's gonna take a while longer getting everything together ^^. It's basically gonna be a mix of a fantasy, medieval, hero RPG thingy. It's gonna be very open and very freeform.

Then I still have an original Sci-Fi RPG idea lying around, I've made the board, some brainstorming about how it would look like. But it's all very vague, and I have no clue if it would ever make it into an RPG. I don't think so lol.

I also have old RPGs lying around which have been closed, there's one I'd like to re-open, but I'm still doubting that too.

Javen - August 14, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
I've been working on my own sites mostly, though I have thought about a high fantasy site focused on the 'bad guys' instead of mainly having somewhat moral, helpful characters. Essentially monsters like goblins and ogres instead of humans and elves. But mainly creating enough content for both of my sites to run smoothly is taking all my time.

kisstheground - August 14, 2008 04:09 AM (GMT)
Currently working on a post-apocalyptic game, vaguely inspired by Girlfriend in a Coma by Douglas Coupland, but then my brain decided to change it up. Hopefully will be online in the next couple weeks after I get the server issues sorted out and the forums set up. I'm a bit obsessive, so we'll see how much tweaking I demand. ;)

Triple J - August 24, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
I'm working on a new board, based on film noir with a mix of the supernatural world (because I can't get enough of that). I hope to have it open soon, but it still has a ways to go before its ready to go public.

Gowd - August 27, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Been working on a resident evil one now for a couple of months <3

rosalieart - August 28, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
im working on an intermediate sci-fi/fantasy board based not in one world- but nine to begin with, then breaking into a myriad of worlds in three time periods bound by one main plot. the idea is to have a fun rp in such a way that nearly anything goes setting wise while also providing a detailed structured environment and a plot frame for those who like site plots.

truthfullies - August 28, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
I'm fleshing out the plot and other information of a combined Wanted and Dark Angel RPG.

stormyhearted - August 28, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
Well, my site Dreaming Out Loud is open! And now I'm working on three more games for the site: Magic is Might, which is a post-DH HP game; Bexleigh Glen, which is a 'real life' game set at a Renaissance Faire; and a currently unnamed "horror" game that is probably going to involve either vampires (the evil, creepy kind) or something demonic.

Remmy - August 28, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)

I’m working on a AU Crossover of the shows Buffy, Supernatural, Angel and Charmed. Each ‘show’ characters have done so much good in the world that it tipped the scales of good so much that evil had to over compensate. Buffy closes one hell mouth and activates hundreds of slayers as the Winchesters close the gates of hell. Angel defeats Wolfram & Hearts LA office by sending the entire city to another dimension while the Halliwells defeat the ultimate evil. Too much good. So now because of all that Hellmouths aren’t just opening they are exploding, spewing out all kinds of bad guys that force the four groups to band together and restore peace.

Emma - August 29, 2008 07:23 AM (GMT)
Oooh I like this thread! It's a good idea.

Let's see. Since April I have been working on an RPG that has morphed quite a bit. It started as a school set in Christchurch, New Zealand (where I live) for people with magic (Harry Potter and Tamora Pierce's ambient magic from the Circle Series) which was pretty cool, but then it morphed into being a site centred around a country on a made-up world and the magic system was quite different, being directly connected with the land.

However, it's probably never going to get opened, as I don't much feel like administrating another site. NMTB is going well. And I haven't really even had any ideas for another site.

samaside - November 3, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)

Epic bump is epic?

Anyway, I figured that this was the sort of thread that ought to be continued instead of restarted because, yeah, I would like to know what you guys are up to these days and what sort of boards we have to look forward to in the future.

For me:
My newly formed production company will be opening a series of original character MARVEL boards in just a short while. The first is slated to be open in the next couple weeks. It would have been this week if two of my midterms hadn't been moved and I all of a sudden had a Korean test on Wednesday. Ouch. Anyway, the board that is opening is the Homesick at Space Camp board that I've put up employment advertisements for back in the day. It's set at Camp Hammond and focuses on the training of newly registered superheroes and how they get along with the people in the town. For people who aren't completely sold on that idea, trust me, within the next two months we'll have a board for you.

I'm also helping to create a board based on a second generation superhero idea.

What about you?

stormyhearted - November 3, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
Yay, I liked this thread. :pink:

Of the three games I mentioned in my last post, Magic is Might is open. Right now, Bexleigh Glen is on the backburner while we gauge member interest in what they want next. We have the most votes for a Regency era game, a lighthearted fantasy game, and Afraid of the Dark, the survival game.

I'm not sure when any of these games will open- they all need a lot of work, still- but I expect at least one to be open by the end of November, depending on which I'm most inspired to work on.

Joscerelle - November 3, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
Woo! I have to leave the internet for a few days to move into a new apartment and my suggestion takes off! Awesome! I love all the feedback and updates we're getting it's so interesting to see what everyone's producing. So interesting, in fact that I have a crap load of "Oo, that sounds interesting," going on in my head.

So here's to start; (though I can't garentee that I would actually join every one of these sites)

Sarahj: Please send me a link when you're done. I loved the show, and have had inklings to play such a thing, but never have thought of how it could come into existence and work well.

AshBeanNun: Please send me a link when you're up and running with the wild west RP. I'm always up for a good historical game.

Silent cacophony: Omg, omg, omg send me the link to your Truman Show RP as soon as it's finished. I want to see! That sounds like so much fun.

Now, for my own personal coming soon. I'm working on a Revolutionary War RP based out of the town, Trenton, NJ. It's mostly going to be able to towns people, the soldiers, the rebels, and the drama between tories and patriots. Drama, Death, Romance, Sadness... DRAMA!

The Dabnor - November 3, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
On and off, I've been working on a site called Burn the Heretic. It's based on Dark Heresy. For those of you who don't know it, it's a pencil and paper RPG set in the Warhammer 40K setting.

Players work for the Inquisition, a group hunting demons, heretics and aliens within the Imperium. The Inquisition are a delightful bunch of chaps with an 'ends justify the means' approach to things a lot of the time and most of them have zero tolerance for anything that's not 100% pure human. The players wouldn't be playing the Inquisitors themselves, just their acolytes; an assortment of folks who are drawn into the service of an Inquisitor.

There are a whole bunch of reasons why I'm pretty sure this RP will never see the light of day:

The first is that I don't know what kind of playerbase there is out there. I know of only a couple of people interested in online RP who'd be interested in the setting, not enough to make it work. On top of that, the available playerbase would be further shrunk by the fact that I'd be focusing just on one faction.

On top of that, there are a few structure and planning issues I haven't sorted out yet. For one, I don't know what kind of time increments the board would be broken up into.

Time would also be an issue, as I know that I'd have to devote less time to Knightfall if I started it and as I'm the only staff member at Knightfall, I can't really do that.

I also don't really like being an admin. I stress and worry about it constantly, so I don't need another board to be doing that about. Then again, you have no idea how many times in the past I've said I'm never adminning again and here I am with a board running and another set up to go >.>

Royan - November 3, 2008 11:42 PM (GMT)
I'm working on an Outlander forum based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon - the Highlands of Scotland in the mid-1700's. We are hoping to be open in about one month....timed for the end of this semester.

Benihime - November 6, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
Coming soon to a theater near you...

Yes, the "gritty fairytale game" is mostly complete.

I expect to have it fully up and running here within a week, maybe a week and a half depending on how my finals for class go. :)

The overall plot is that someone/thing decided to go run around and start conquering all the fairytale lands we all know and love as mere human beings. Those who escaped landed in our world (Earth), but some either got left behind or stayed behind willingly. In any case, players can opt to play a refugee living in the real world, a "captive" in the old area, or one of the oppressors themselves.

*any* creature (human, non-human, whatever) from any book, play, musical, myth, legend, fairytale, epic poem... your imagination... is allowed to be played (even "real" people, such as Sherlock Holmes or Captain Ahab).

Lemme know if you're interested!

stormyhearted - November 6, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
That sounds really neat, Benihime! I'd love to check it out once you're done- send me a pm?

Arcturus Kessler - November 6, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
I didn't know multi boards were still around. I remember them from when I first started RPing that the board was based on one idea but had many other RPs going on.

Giving this thread a bump because I'm sure there are some other forums in the works out there.

Anyone else currently working on a new forum?

I'm also doing one based on the BBC, Merlin which took over Robin Hood's slot. It's based on the show but we did try to make the plot a little more ahead, not working so well as I hoped in that respect but we now have the major characters taken, just a matter of them all being active enough and we'll have the plot well underway.

Roswenth - November 20, 2008 10:44 PM (GMT)
I am working on an AU Harry Potter site after looking through a bunch of sites and not being able to find anywhere I would feel comfortable. It's set in Savannah, GA (and yes...I have been there), and it definitely is a different take on the traditional HP plot. A historical tyrannical royal court gets reincarnated every several generations, and the next generation is 'up next'. Furthermore, I pitted everyone against everyone else. There's no houses, but it would be like all four houses at Hogwarts hated each other. It really doesn't feel much like it's based on HP, but we use the spells and such since that's familiar to a lot of people.

No acceptance process, laid back rules, and some unorthodox takes on other RP trends - going to see how it goes.
