Title: This Is Not A Canon...this Is My Character!

On my site, I've basically banned canons (because I don't approve of stealing an author's char and manipulating it...if that makes sense. XP)

Now, recently, I've had a couple of people joining up as "original characters". On first glance, everything seems ok. They have an original name, an unused pb (etc). And then you get to their likes and dislikes, and it starts to all seem very familiar. Reading their history, you recognize it but you can't quite place just where...

And then you realize in a second that its not an original character, its a CANON with a name change, and a birthplace change...and all small details changed so that it -seems- like an original character...BUT IT IS NOT. (No, I'm not being a nazi admin...their character was exactly the same as the main character from a certain book that I happen to be obsessed with.) >=[

You PM said member on the issue.

They screech profanities at you, tell you how their character is original and that you're a horrible admin etc etc...

Then they join a website with the same character profile...with things changed back to as they should be and they get accepted as said canon character. >=[

*fumes*

Can't people just read the rules and follow them? Is it so much to ask that my site NOT have canons on it?

Apparently so. =[

They were just mad they got caught, perhaps they were insulting you by thinking you wouldn't notice. :p

But any who, a person that flips out over something like that, particularly if they are at fault and not you... they are not worth keeping around. I really hate it when members get all snarky when you point something out and really wanna settle it to their benefit. I wish they understood that even though they may not want to hear it, their critics are often the ones telling you they care and want to help.

For that person to flip their cap, they are not even worth your stress and consider it a blessing they are gone. I personally, have no patience for people like that.

Huh. This has happened to me before, but more like 'original character who sounds like YOUR canon, then when you catch them out, they change... now they're re-enacting scenes from another TV show alone in their apartment.'

*huffs*

In case that didn't make sense:

Mary is accepted because she displays good literacy and a relatively original history concept - its a Canon Tv show, so you gotta cut them SOME slack.
Suddenly, Mary starts to sound a Hell of a lot like Barbara. Like, a lot. Their personalities clash unbelievably, because they're so similar. You'd just hate to see them in a fist fight, because lord knows they'd fight & defend in perfect symmetry.

Barbara tells Steve, 'cause Steve is admin and has noticed it too. Steve asks Mary what's going on, and says that the characters are.. well.. a bit too similar.
Steve gets screamed at for hours on end.

A few days later, Mary isn't posting with Barbara anymore, but MY GOD, what on Earth has happened to her? Haven't I seen this before? Oh, right. I have. The PB did it in her TV show a few weeks back... I remember this happening. Oh GOD. Do I risk the screaming again???

Thank god she disappeared without a trace for a while after that. That killed me. :|

Sorry, but I had to get it out.
