Title: It's. Not. That. Hard.

Jesus wept. It's canon, people. Okay? CANON. One -- and ONLY one -- 'n' in the middle and one at the end.
Unless you're talking about a really big gun it is not spelled cannon.

Baha. XD
Despite how many times people are told, people still seem to pick up on the double n.
But it is annoying.

Haha I was just thinking about this like 2 minutes ago. I saw an app that asked, canon or original? And right next to the correctly spelled CANON, the person wrote CANNON. Awesome.

This one isn't as common but "Affiliation" not Affillation" kthx.

I can almost understand this one because I catch myself doing it some times also. I think it's got to do with a time when I was a teenager online and had a character completely obsessed with canNons. I dunno. I do catch it before I post though.

TELL me about it. It mystifies me, but people really do put the incorrect spelling RIGHT NEXT TO the correct--this happens with 'canon/cannon,' with character names--with almost anything. I wonder what people are thinking. Do they think *I* spelled it wrong? If so, that's quite stupid, because they could well have looked it up. Do they just not see the difference? This indicates some sort of learning disability, which I can understand--in some cases. I don't buy that everyone is dyslexic.
Anyway--
I agree. >.< It's a stupid pet peeve, and I would never even mention it to someone who did it (unless they were a friend)... but it's a peeve nonetheless.

I don't think it's a stupid pet peeve... I think it should matter. I don't join a board where the ADMINS use "cannon" all over the place. For a bunch of writers, not being able to use the correct form of the word kind of indicates laziness at best and potential disaster at worst xD
SJWinchester - August 7, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
I do that. If they spell it wrong, its the wrong meaning.
Oh, you're looking for guns?
Don't have any of those big ones. If ya want a rifle, gimme a call. Otherwise, buh-bye.
I hate the way that so many admins do this. It annoys the Hell out of me. Get it right, first off as an admin, knowing what they're doing, and second off, as a fecking WRITER. If you can't spell it, look the goddamn word up. Or sub it. Or something. Be lazy if you must, but like.. GRR. Have a correct word there, or I shall kill many. :|
*gets out her rifle*

'Looking for cannons' always makes me want to ask:
"Certainly. What size? Three-pounders, six-pounders, nine-pounders? I know where you can find a firing twenty-four pounder, if you really want."
I'm Age of Sail crazy and a Napoleonic re-enactor in my spare time. It doesn't take much to use the right word, and using the wrong words causes much hilarity here.

recently I've ran into so many sites with canon misspells that I have lost all faith in humanity. Each time I just had to post in the c-box explaining the difference between the words canon and cannon. I figure I better "save" these boards from the judgment of people like us...people who are yada about spelling the word 'canon' XD
Lady Hikari - August 10, 2008 02:11 AM (GMT)
Every time I see cannon, I think...OH! I'm playing a big ass gun?! It makes me giggle. And I don't join that site because of it.
Madame Everard - August 10, 2008 04:03 AM (GMT)
I think the next time I visit a site that's looking for cannons, I'll join and try to use a large iron weapon as my play-by.
Satire.and.Ice - August 10, 2008 05:21 AM (GMT)
Ugh.
The next time someone uses 'cannon' instead of 'canon', I will SHOOT them with a cannon. Yes, the big dangerous kind.
