Title: Would You Join A Site With This Plot?
Description: A band rp with a new twist.

PWN PUTS THE 'BAND' IN CAMP.

Poems With Notes was established by a group of creative, interesting people who wanted to do more than create a music camp. Instead, they wanted to make it really...a band camp.

So they hired out talent scouts across the world to look for and recruit the best undiscovered bands. And when they did, these bands would get an all-expenses paid trip to Maine, where the camp is located. The camp itself used to be an elementary school that was moved to a different district. With a few more floors added, and some dormitories built, it became the largest band camp known to Maine.

At the end of the summer, one band will win a chance to start a record deal of their own, and possibly become as famous as the bands already out there. Who will get this prize of all prizes? It all comes down to who shows the most potential as a possible addition to Warped.

Because that's all music really is - Poems With Notes Attached.

An idea off the top of my head, and possibly an end-of-summer project if I can't get TFW off its knees. >_< What do you think?

I really do need feedback on this idea...

When I think of "band camp", I think of high school bands. Marching bands and what not. I'm not a huge fan of trying to RP a character playing an instrument and I've never seen it done really correctly. Plus, from what I've gathered across the "band" sites I've come across, they tend to be very stereotypical characters and everyone seems to be some prodigy.

So honestly, I personally wouldn't, but that surely doesn't mean others won't ^_^

A few questions: How would the final band be decided? How would bands be put together on the site? What happens after the band is selected as the winner?

Satire.and.Ice - August 9, 2008 12:32 PM (GMT)
Well here, it's a canons-only site, but the canons are really quite free - just the band names and last names are done. And when we talk 'bands' we're talking about those undiscovered garage bands, or bands that haven't made it to MTV or the celebrity status yet.

The final band's decided based on the performance they give at the concert at the end of the year. ^^ And after the band's selected, they actually do get to become famous.

It's why I made it canons only, to avoid any confusion.

You might want to have put this in Plot Showcase...

Honestly, I really wouldn't. I agree with Stars entirely! But also, this just seems like a ripoff of Camp Rock. You are going to get the Camp Rock teeny boppers with this sort of plot, and I don't know if you want a bunch of Disney Channel Stars wanna-be's on your forum.
If I would rp on this sort of forum, I would want my character participating at a camp, not a school-turned-camp. Like, I would want my character in a typical camp setting found back East. Camp rps are very big right now, so I would want more of the camp charm in it, rather than having them going to a school environment. Besides, I don't think too many elementary schools would just give up their school for a band camp. That's why a woodsy camp on the lake would be fantastic, because the woods would offer quiet, peaceful places where people could practice on their own.

I have only see ONE band RPG that ever made it. All the others died away. You will have to be very committed to this if you plan on it doing well.

Well, it's not that they gave up the school for a band camp...they moved to the newly finished bigger school and left that one for anybody to take.

But it is definitely not a rip off of Camp Rock. I put in all sorts of bands, like the ones we listen to today. There are a few bands geared towards...happier audiences, if you will. (Jonas Brothers, Cheetah Girls, ect.) I even put a Celtic band in there. I have the thing set up so that basically they live and practice in the school, but spend the rest of their time outdoors where it's more camp-esque.

Does that make sense? I just got home so..

EDIT: Plot showcase? Oops. x.x

Maine is love!

So how would the "competition" work? Assuming that's the heart of the plot, at least.

Satire.and.Ice - August 10, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah, pretty much. ^^ Here, I'm going to post the way the competition is going to work (link to the site is in my sig, still waiting for a banner)

QUOTE
1. Each band brought here will be assigned a counselor, who will help improve their sound and get them ready for the final camp day.

2. On the last day of camp, there will be a concert that starts at 3pm. Each band will play no more than two songs, then the chosen band for the record deal will be announced.

3. Any band already chosen is welcome to return to camp next year.

4. Small concerts will be scattered throughout the summer, at campfires and such.

Looks interesting. I may give it a shot. The link in your sig wants fixing, though. It's got extra stuff in it that shouldn't be there.

It's also lovely to see an RP set in my home-state. :)

Satire.and.Ice - August 10, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
Whoops! Thank you! <3 I'll go fix that now. =P

Famous For Nothing - August 11, 2008 12:20 PM (GMT)
Well,i think if you could find a way to make this type of RP work, youd of done something not many people could have done. But all the other sites like this sucked horribly, sorry to say.Im all for concerts being played in a High school,or boarding school type RPG,but i just cant see a whole RP dedicated to it working out.Sorry to say it like that ):
Best of luck (:
