Title: Seriously, Wtf?!
Description: Telemarketer rant
Kesra - August 6, 2008 07:09 PM (GMT)
For the first portion of this rant, it is safe to assume that I'll be swearing for the next ten or so minutes. This will not be typed out because frankly I don't feel like any flack that would come with it...so again, just assume I'm swearing colorfully.
FOUR TIMES today a telemarketer has called my house over some stupid satellite service promotion or something or other. Each time they've called, I've gone through to the operator. The first three times I said "Ah yes. I'm sorry but I was wondering if you could remove me from your calling list." In a rather polite tone. I figure these people don't want to be there...and the feckin' hang up on me! Those sanctimonious spawn of bastard monkey whoring skanky douchebags!
The fourth time I was a little more direct. "Yes. I've already told you three times today that I would like to be removed from the calling list and each time I've been hung up on" The operator asked me "How old are you?" I said "I'm twenty two" He said "Sounds like you're four!" *click!* (Another several minutes of assumed swearing please)
It's getting to the point of harassment and I'm getting pretty damn sick of it!

Next time, repeat yourself AGAIN and hang up before they can. Or just put the phone down on the side as soon as you realise who it is and walk away. Then hang up after a minute or two.
I've worked in an out-bound call centre, and hated every minute of it, but seriously these guys should've taken you off the list after you told them the first time.

We don't answer the phone at our house any more. Any one who wants to call us uses our mobile numbers, then if we're home we ring them back on the landline.
But yeah, they shoulda listened to you the first time.

Are you on the National Do Not Call Registry?
You'll continue to get those if you aren't.

Just signed up today. Hopefully after 31 days these calls will stop

I'm on the Do Not Call list, and I haven't gotten a call in at least a year.

Are you sure it's not prank callers?
Kesra - August 6, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
I googled the phone number to make sure. They're a 'legitimate' telemarketing company.

You were way too polite. When you're talking to anyone in sales, you can't afford to use words like "I'm sorry". It makes you sound intimidated. You have to be blunt to them, because they're used to people saying no, or telling them to f-off, or whatever else. So before they have a chance to even explain whatever they're trying to sell you, you say "Look, I'm not interested in what you're selling and I'd like my number taken off your calling list."

Wow...I am humbled. that has got to be the first time anyone has ever told me I was being too polite. Usually I'm told "You could have been nicer." or "That could have gone better..."
I'm getting soft!
