Title: Pseudo-powerplaying
Description: am I being unreasonable?

So. You make a new character. On a new site. The site rules state that Mary-sues are against the rules, by the way, so you make a decent kind of character who's not perfect. But rather being not perfect in the conventional "is georgous but nasty" way of many not!sues (my new term for mary-sue in disguise - maybe it should be Transformhers?), they're actually just really not that wonderful.
So you have a couple of threads, and eventually, you get in a disagreement with someone of the same age group (category, whatever) as your character. And suddenly, the entire site turns on you. Or that's what it feels like. Then, you realize that the characters who suddenly loathe your character are played by the same RPer or friends of that RPer.
It's almost power-playing, but not quite, because they all have in-character reasons for hating your character (even when, in some cases, it goes against their character's personality).
Is it unreasonable to get a teeny tiny bit annoyed by this?

Ah, that's meta-gaming!
Which is using OOC knowledge ICly. And it's very reasonable to be annoyed by that, because that's NOT good RP. OOC and IC should always be kept separate, and if someone is incapable of doing that when it comes to a certain player and their characters, then they should not interact with said player or their characters.
It's stupid and immature on their part. :\

What?! Nooo. So wrong. I always hate players of characters who are mean to my characters. It's a very natural thing and should be awesome in the eyes of everyone.
Ok, not really, I just tend to "hate" characters that are mean/hate/whatever is negative my character(s). But all in good fun.
But, yes, that is meta-gaming, in a sense I guess. And it is rather silly. Like punching your friend for winning Candyland. Very silly.
But so long as it is in character, what can you do? Should it be taken OOC though, the admins need to do some serious down smacking. I would, because that's just... blerg. Ugly.

Unreasonable?
No. They're a bunch of groupies and general idiots. Call them on it if the Admin does nothing.

Well, it's one thing if it's a character naturally hating a character. That is awesome. But if it's people suddenly having their characters hate yours because they suddenly don't like you, that's another matter entirely.

I hate that. I once saw two RPers get into an arguement, and one had their character dump the other character. Even though they had plotted for them to get married and had always been together in the RPG and every thread they did had an 'I love you' somewhere.
Meta-gaming sucks.

This is the kind of roleplaying that kills promising RPs. I'm seeing it to an extent right now on one of mine. This will unfortunately damage the board as people will stop posting and leave as they get sick/hurt by the arguments, and soon there will just be two enemies sitting there yelling at eachother. Best thing to do is to lay off posting till they calm down if you are able to, otherwise ignoring it works pretty well.

Ugh, that sounds awful. I'd say that's just... blahk. I have no words. :|
