Title: Ugghhhh

Why do parents have to be so inept?!

In the beginning of June, right after graduation, my dad asked me what kind of laptop I wanted and how much I was willing to pay for it. So I told him what I was looking at and how much I was gonna shell out for it. So it's simple enough, I wrote it down for him and everything. He doesn't order it.

So now it's the end of July and he's getting ready to have his hip replaced and I ask him about my laptop and he says, I'm talking to my computer guys I should know by tomorrow. So the next day rolls around, I still don't really know...I should know by Tuesday. Well he's getting his hip replaced on Monday, so he doesn't talk to those guys all week.

He comes home that Thursday back to his laptop where he can email or whatever to get in touch with the guys. Then he tells me that he's thinking I'll get it by the next Saturday. I'm getting really excited but then the next Saturday rolls around, and he still hasn't ordered it yet.

So I talk to him again and he says, I'm going back to work on Tuesday and it should be there by then. That's today. So I go to his office today to take him to the doctors and he tells me that Dell wasn't going to ship to the distributors until the end of August, but he could order it online. The only problem with that, it wouldn't be delivered until August 15th, which means that I wouldn't get it until August 17th at the earliest, probably August 19th. I leave for school on Friday...that's August 8th. I'm going to be without a computer for 11 days, when I shouldn't have been without a laptop since the beginning of June.

Why couldn't he just get off his lazy butt and order it? I'm really upset because I just got back into RPs after having a broken desktop computer all summer and now I'm going to have to cut them off for almost two weeks...it's not fair to me. I think he should give me his laptop for those 11 days and he can drive the four hours to give me my laptop, but NO he's going to borrow one from his work. It's probably going to be an ancient piece of crap laptop that takes seven-billion hours to load any website, including yahoo, because he gave us one of those when his laptop was on the fritz earlier this summer.

It's so frustrating!

It happens. Sometimes parents forget about stuff like that; they have a lot n their plates and if your dad was getting his hip replaced I think I'd be more concerned about that than a laptop anyway. Also, if Dell wasn't going to ship it then it's not really his fault is it?

Besides, it's only eleven days and your school should have computers or something available in the library. I was without a computer for a lot longer than that when I was away in Guatemala and I shelled out money for the internet when I wanted to use it. You can use the internet, you just have to make the effort.

I think it's nice of him to even offer to borrow one from work considering it's not him that needs it and it's only a family member. My first laptop was four years old, had 11 GB on it total (with 9 that I could use) and it took forever to load, as you said. But it was a computer and it was the internet so I was happy.

I'd try and be more considerate. At least your dad is trying.

While that is all true Samaside, the point that callie is making is that this should have happened two almost three months ago. Yes parents have a lot on thier minds, hell last year when my parents were still here and me and my sister were going through the getting our laptops period, we had to be on our mother every bloody day, "did you order it yet? Have you ordered it?" And finally we just ccalled her at the office one day and said, "Listen, this is what we are getting, give us your credit card info so that we can order it ourselves".

Sometimes, you just have to do things yourself. after the first couple of weeks, you probably should have been like, "Alright dad, here's the deal. Since I'm paying for it myself, I'm going to order it so that I know I'll have it by the time school starts."

-shrug-

That said, samaside is right. You should have plenty of access to computer labs and the library until your laptop rolls in and be prepared for it to come later than it says it will. it might not come until September (computer people are...retarded like that sometimes) It'll be a pain in the butt, but at least then you will truely know how dedicated to your RPs you are. :)
