Title: So I Rejected This Mary Sue...
Jae - August 1, 2008 05:41 PM (GMT)
...and she completely blew a gasket.
Here's what I got in a PM about 15 minutes later:
----------
Ok, most of people call this me being very nice and still wanting to talk with you. I am going to be very honest with you darling and by that I mean I am going to tell you everything I think you should know. On the other hand I am writing this as PM because having fights over the forum is not something I am fond of. Usually I don’t send applies on such low and rather humiliating boards like this one, mostly because I fond that not only members, to whom I can forgive, but admin, whom are so proud of themselves, are worst writers on the internet. Most of you are so sure about yourself and you spend time watching down on people while, for really strange reasons, keeping yourself in delusion that you can actually write.
The fact is that most of you are unable neither to make decent post nor to really pour the soul into a character, and I am disgusted by that fact. Not to mention people whom make as many characters as they can and then play them like they are all same person. Of course there is also the matter of respecting a person whom sat down and made bio with everything he/she had in her heart. Unfortunately for you this bio isn’t even 30% of what I can make out of the character, but I don’t think myself that you guys are actually worthy of me getting serious and making real character for this forum.
I came here because someone asked me to come and RP, not because I was wondering around the same sites as you were, after all your longest posts are the shortest ones I make when I don’t have muse…. What you said not only that it insulted me as a person but as a writer as well mostly because you don’t look and don’t plan ahead. You made this site, but real deal or better to say real plot doesn’t exist and yet you are actually proud enough to tell me my character can’t have a downfall or that she can’t be destroyed.
I will tell you this way. I have been writing around forums for nine years, I am more experienced writer then you are and definitely better one. If you were better then I am and if you were a person who can actually teach me more about writing I would change [name removed]. Unfortunately for you that is not the case. [name removed] is character I made, I already put a lot in her (much more then you put in your characters, trust me) and she won’t be changed. I am here only because [name removed] asked me, not because you made something especially good.
Cheers,
[name removed]

Whoaaaa there, lady. You have no idea how nice I was trying to be to you -- all I basically said was that your character was too perfect and was not what we were looking for, and you actually have the nerve to shove this bullshit in my face?
Thanks a lot. I knew you were hopeless, but at least I gave it a try. :|

-takes note of her bad grammar and punctuation, laughing that she could insult someone else's writing skills with a crap message like that-
ANYWHO!
to me, it sounds like she was just trying to make herself feel better because she knows that she fails. i mean, she admitted to not even putting in 50% of the effort into the application so, in all respect, it was her fault she failed in the first place.
usually, i don't turn down sues, i just ask to see a negative side of them, too, because they sound too perfect and i need to know that they have flaws and the like but i've never had replies like that. most of the members who don't appreciate my constructive criticism just delete their applications and go on their merry way.
i'm so sorry you had to deal with that. as an admin, i get it. dealing with members like that is rare for me but it happens and i never like it, at all. it's just not fair to those of us who actually put in the effort for our boards and, as an admin, i was rather offended that those are her beliefs about admins. if that's the case, she needs to make her own and leave our boards alone.

| Just one step, just one simple step is enough for the whole room to become hers. [name removed]’s beauty isn’t just special, it doesn’t only radiate with enormous charisma and dangerous aura, and it actually sucks your attention from anything but her. Just smile, innocent and open smile, is enough for people to feel charmed and special in her presence. She is almost like drug, making you want to see more and feel more, making you want her and yet teaching you that she is never to be truly anyone’s. |
And that... is just a small chunk of it.
Honestly, I don't like turning people down at all. If it were just a grammar problem, I might not even care. I mean, sure, English isn't her first language, but the problem isn't a lost-in-translation or anything like that. If she wrote it in her native language, it would still be the same.
Edit:
Eh, I'll probably just send her a semi-professional reply or something. Nothing to do about it, I guess.
nadja - August 1, 2008 06:22 PM (GMT)
-shudders and runs off to post with normal characters-
if it were me? i'd send a very diplomatic reply, politely telling her where to shove her character, her skill, and her attitude and then inform her that she wasn't welcome on my board. that's just ridiculous. i LOATHE turning away people but that was just uncalled for...

Just say you're sorry she got offended, but insulting the board isn't the way to go since it didn't make you feel apologetic about denying her at all. Lmao.
I've gotten PMs like that before, and cbox messages. But my favorite incident was when I denied a girl (because her grammar needed work and her character just didn't seem to fit) by saying something like "Maybe another site would be a better fit." I did critique her application and it was public so I can understand her frustration. However, in retaliation, she got kind of nasty then replied to her critique with a critique of my character. Basically, she was saying "You think my character is too perfect? Let's look at yours." She tried to tear him apart, but she conveniently left out all the aspects of his personality that made him more annoying than perfect. He was smart, helpful, and popular (yes, some people do exist) but he was also weird-looking, selfish, perverted, and a flaky ladies' man. Naturally she didn't feel it necessary to bring those traits into account. ;X
I wasn't offended; I was more shocked, but I left it up because I didn't want to seem like I wanted to hide anything. That would only make it seem (IMO) that I thought she was right. But we obviously permanently denied her, then five seconds later she made another account (for a boy character). Luckily she never applied, because then that might have been slightly humiliating for her when she realized we could read IPs.

O_o
...
Woah.
Crazy lady on the loose!
Somebody get the straitjacket!
You know, you would have never guessed she had been writing for 9 years with that PM. Silly goose :p Reading the last bit with 'I am here only because [name removed] asked me, not because you made something especially good.' makes me wonder, "Why on earth would you have such a heart attack if you didn't want to be there in the first place?" Whoever that person who she was referred by must have some very odd friends :/ Do you know if that girl really was referred by that certain person?
But that chunk from her app. makes me think that she really didn't spend much time on it, whether writing it or actually thinking it through.

Hahaha! What a diva. I'd ban their butt for harassment, and good riddance.
__artstarxx - August 1, 2008 10:20 PM (GMT)
wow. drama queen much xD
um. i found it amusing how she sat there and bashed on everyones spelling
when she obviously can't.
there were about a million and two spelling and grammatical errors in that letter.
antisocialist87 - August 1, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
Either English isn't her first language, or she needs to get off of the internet and chop off her fingers so that she can't type anymore.
With all snark aside, she's a Grade-A moron. I'd tell her good riddance and invest in a spell check and a nice big mug of shut the hell up.
Greymalkin - August 1, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
Darling? Darling?
I stopped reading right there.
Lady Hikari - August 1, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
XDXDXDXDXD
That makes me giggle. First off, you made the site. HULLO! She didn't. So how can she sit there and say that you suck as a writer?! Oh wow.
There were WAY too many damn adjectives. I got lost and confused with just that little sample of her character profile you put up. That is just...wow.
And for her to diss you on YOUR board cause you didn't like her app is completely outrageous. I'd just send her a message telling her to shove it and gtfo. Srsly.

That made me cringe. o_O
Gee, someone's full of herself. All you did was tell her her character was too perfect and she responds with a three paragraph insult. Her sentences weren't all that smashing, either. I sure wouldn't want to rp with her. Someone who writes a book insulting the site for their own faults needs to be drawn and quartered. :innocent:
Jae - August 2, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
Although, just so you guys don't get the wrong idea, I did post a long thing about how we had to turn her down and a few points that I thought might help her. I might have overdone it at points, but I don't think I was ever rude or even snide. In hindsight, it probably would've been more tactful for me to PM her everything instead of publicly, but it honestly didn't occur to me at the time since I figured I was being pretty nice and polite about it, and we'd been posting replies in all of the other character applications. o.O
Sunday - August 2, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
I read your critique and you were nothing but polite. So don't think it's your fault she can't handle constructive criticism. =/
Brandy - August 2, 2008 04:30 AM (GMT)
That girl sounds like a complete....well.....you know what. First off....Ignore her. She can't even write a proper PM. So HA to her. I noticed the atrocious grammar that plagued the PM...9 years of RPing my butt, only if she was a one-liner(In which case you wouldn't want her on your board)...so yeah. If ANYONE has grammar/writing issues, it's her. *nod nod*
Second....Ban her sorry butt's IP address. She's probably gone, but I SO wouldn't take the risk of her coming back and running her mouth on your board. Easy way to fix that is by banning her IP.
Third....well....nah. It would be too mean to...*ahem* call the local nut house and have her committed.....It would be fair, mind you, because she sounds like a lunatic, but yeah. It's always best to play nice. ^_^

I agree with Sunday.
And the whole situation just makes me giggle. I went over to your site (can I add that because of her your site might just gain one more member? ^_^ ) and read her profile too and, well, she is amazing. . . . in a bad way, that is!

We don't want anyone with your attitude at this RPG. You wanted our answer? Here it is:
Good riddance. |
ROFL. Nice one.
Kyi - August 2, 2008 04:52 AM (GMT)
Ahhhh-- I still can't get over her reaction. You were so polite, Jaeface.
But, speaking on the behalf of Jae (I'm Zoë), thank you all. xD
I was really hoping that she'd be a surprise - with perfect appearance and so on, but with a bunch of other flaws. When that wasn't the case, I.. D: I don't know. I've never seen a Mary Sue this extreme before.
What amazes me is that she got mad at Jae for telling her that her character was perfect, basically. (Perfect in the Mary Sue way, but you know.)

| I think you PMed me instead of posting here not because you didn't like forum fights, but because you knew that if you posted it, you would only look like a huge jackass -- which, by the way, you are. To the nth degree. |
*high five*
And I agree with Sunny - the end was pure genius! :)
I like how you put that post, not only your response, but your criticism post. The first time, you tried to be as civil as possible - it showed. It showed how great of an Admin you are because you took it the mature route. Your response to the PM was also truthful, but she had it coming. You don't get to be extremely rude to someone without having some sort of response that's not polite, huh?
Nicely done.

| Is there anything in particular that you are uncomfortable about playing? No, I have RPed more then enough characters and there isn’t really a thing I can’t accept when it comes to RPing. |
It really isn't helping how we are all pointing fingers at her and humiliating her to the fullest (although she was a brat). But I felt like I need to point this out. She can do anything with rping, she's been rping for 9 years, and yet she can't take a simple no. Most people are turned down once in awhile. Get used to it, even if you think you're the best of the best. And I don't care that English isn't her native language. If she says she is so experienced with rping (9 years), then by now, she would have role played a lot in English. I don't know too many Serbian RPGs, sorry.
