omg... one of the guys that i work with is in LOVE with that place. i think it's so lame... he rarely says anything funny. my friend finds it hilarious but i just think it's lame and a waste of cyberspace... and i've never been there.

I lurk it every so often, but now, it's nothing but a bunch of high school kids and Gaia Online children that are rejects IRL that generally frequent it. It's one of those trendy things that will die when something new comes up.

A simple definition -

4chan is an imageboard based off of the Japanese 2channel imageboards, but only has a fraction of the latter's popularity. It was created by moot, who was a former Something Awful goon, and was originally intended to be a place where a lot of anime fans could hang out. In time, general dark humor became involved, and hilarity ensued there often. Granted, much of the humor is black comedy, and is extremely offensive to most, if not, everyone, but the /b/, or random. subfolder was basically the place where a lot of currently popular internet memes originated. 4chan, however, is much larger than it's infamous /b/ subfolder, and not all 4channers hang out there, though there is a sizeable portion that does. Additionally, not all 4channers are complete assholes, and, if anything, many of the ones that I've come across are generally cool people just looking for a good time - though it will be at your expense. Even the racial memes - are something you should probably take with a grain of salt.

4chan now, for the most part, is basically home to a lot of people that think that /b/ is their own personal army, or where they try inside jokes and general humor that isn't as funny as it used to be. Their raids tend to be funny, (particularly the Tylor King thing, which I wish I could've seen transpire) but generally, if you end up on the bad side of 4chan, I really do pity you.
