Title: And Now For Something Completely Different!
Description: Advertise at me. Come on. Do it.
FarainiteReveler - July 29, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
Genre:
Comedic!Fantasy
Difficulty:
Intermediate. Don't yell at me if I don't write a page long post. Two to three paragraphs are my average.
Type(s) of Creature(s):
Anything. As long as they're farcical.
Preferred Rating:
Greater than G. It's fun to refer to things, not fun to actually graphically describe them.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity:
Small numbers of active members. I don't want to be a number. v_v
Preferred Time where RPG is set in:
Not modern. AU is good.
Genre:
Mythological
Difficulty:
Intermediate. My posts are normally 100 -- 700 words.
Type(s) of Creature(s):
Gods and their ilk.
Preferred Rating:
Anything, though I can't imagine a mythological roleplay that's rated E for everyone.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity:
Small numbers of active members.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in:
Not modern. Pre-twentieth century.
Other Notes:
NOT JUST GREEKS! I don't like just Greek gods. Norse, Egyptian, Aztec, Hindu, Shinto... And of course, sub-Saharan. Or even some originals.
Alandree - July 29, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
I think you may like Out of the Woods. We're a fairy tale based RPG, with canons from the musical Into the Woods (though knowledge of that is not necessary, and the characters from it are not central). We're focusing on the darker side of fairy tales, but we definitely have a farcical edge. All the characters so far certainly do. We believe in nonsense and craziness.
We're not very well advertised, hence the small amount of members, so I hope you won't be turned off by the lack of activity. I personally check the site daily, and my characters are awaiting replies. We'd love some new people to help us get on our feet!
We don't have word minimums for posts. Our only requirements are a paragraph for History and a paragraph for Personality in the application form. Otherwise it's all about quality rather than quantity.
So check us out? The link is in my signature!
Alandree - July 29, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
Oh golly, sorry. We don't even have those minimums for the app. That's for my other one. Silly me! So let me say: no word minimums at all. XD
FarainiteReveler - July 29, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Alandree -- I popped up in your cbox.
Alandree - July 29, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
Why yes, I noticed! :) It's Alandree, by the way, actually.

Three Wishes is a fantasy/steampunk RP based on Asian mythology (specifically, Chinese gods). The world is firmly ensconced in an industrial revolution, and this, combined with the land's natural magic, makes for a setting rather like Hellboy. Clockwork palanquins, alchemy, mecha-polo; if you can conceive it, it probably has a home here.
The powerful Imperial Regency has decreed that anything bad for you is illegal, and religion -- the cause of several wars and a genocide -- could be considered very, very bad. The four Beast Gods who protect the world cannot do so without the strength of worship, so they have sent their avatars to help change the course of the world.
We explore themes of personal freedoms versus the public good, of independence and interdependence, of modernity against tradition. Concepts are vast and varied, and we have a write-what-you-need approach to posts -- if it forwards the plot, then you are good to go. No minimums or maximums are involved. :)
FarainiteReveler - July 29, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
Eeeeee... I don't much know Chinese mythology, and that is twentieth century for China, I think. End of 19th, at least... I don't think I will. Thanks anyway.
Cal - July 29, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Steampunk is Victoriana in tone -- 1830s or so. :) I was hoping it'd be early enough for you. Good luck with your search!
Jay Serge - July 29, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the Steampunk world of
Legend Makers.
The former King was lately found to have died of natural causes at the age of 35. Predicted cause of death was heart failure. Unknown to most, the result of his kingship's death was from a large quantity of Foxglove in his soup, which in small doses is classed as a drug used to aid those with weak hearts, yet large doses can prove fatal.
Following the death of the King, his child Alexander the III has taken up the role of monarch at the young age of 7 years old. Due to his age and inexperience, the Church has offered their services in helping run the Kingdom temporally until his 16th birthday when he can take his rightful position in the political world, seeing as his knowledge of the political world and faith will be up to acceptable standards.
Unknown to the public, the Church has lead the continent for the past 100 years by pulling such stunts similar to this one:
Monarchs have been used as political puppets, to be used when useful and discarded when posing a threat, much like the former king Alfred the IV. His Rule was cut shot due to a few outcries on his half against the Churches current place in the political world, (unaware, every decision he ever took as King was moulded by the Churches very hands). This lead to a momentary laps in the peoples respect for the Church. The Puppets strings were quickly cut away, opening a position for a new monarch, a new face for the church to hide there scheming behind.
FarainiteReveler - July 29, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
Jay, that doesn't sound comedic in the slightest. Sorry.
*NR Staff* - July 29, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
We have an original mythology. :D
Try TNR:
http://www.thenetherrealm.com/forum/Check out our wiki too. :D
FarainiteReveler - July 29, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
I looked at Nether Realm earlier, and it looked cool, but it's a bit too High Fantasy for my tastes. You don't exactly roleplay as the gods, and it seems relatively serious. Thanks though!
*NR Staff* - July 29, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
Indeed, the myth side is exceptionally high fantasy, but we do have clerics and priests and their ilk and do have gods involved in plots. Serious? Hehe, we are serious writers, but we have much fun plotting. Erm, maybe its the fantasy nerds we have there that make it seem serious, we are deadly serious about fantasy. lol
Thanks for considering us! Good luck with yer search. ;)
Foolonthehill - July 30, 2008 01:46 AM (GMT)
I know you said no Greek gods, but I figured I'd give ti a try anyway.
FarainiteReveler - July 30, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I considered your site for a bit, but I stand by what I said about just Greeks being sort of... Dull. I want more variety.
tankgirl - July 30, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
so this ticks some boxes in your first request, check it out
A young Bruce Wayne spent his adolescence and early adulthood traveling the world so he could hone his body and mind into the perfect fighting and investigative machine. But now as he returns to Gotham City, he must find a way to focus his passion and bring justice to his city- a city that has fallen into the darkness of evil. Fighting injustice as a costumed vigilante, we watch as he chooses a guise of a giant bat, using his own former fear to bring terror to those tormenting the citizens of a once great place. Few bonds along the way, respect both ways with lieutenant James Gordon, a twisted working relationship with the feisty Catwoman, all in the struggle to bring down the corruption infesting Gotham.

I run a pair of slightly into the future, comic related sites. They are sister sites, and several of our members play characters on both sites.
http://z6.invisionfree.com/DC_Heroes_2027/index.php?act=idxDC Heroes 2027.....DC Universe, set in roughly 2027...though I think we've crossed, technically, into 2028 by now....just turned 2. Not a tone of active members....12+....but we are friendly, and dedicated to the site chugging along. Rating is technically R, though most of the writing remains in the PG-13 range. Both sites a set up with comic series, that run in sets of current issues, to give them almost the feel of being an actual comic book company.
http://z6.invisionfree.com/Marvel_2027/ind...om/Marvel_2027/Marvel 2027. Just recently restarted the site....I think we have 9 or 10 active members...might be 11. Same set up as the DC site....both sites even share a cbox.
Feel free to check us out, or PM me if you have any questions.
Kitty5roses - July 31, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
The world is changing.
Upon the discovery of the mutant “cure” all hell broke loose. Some mutants rushed to get the drug, others protested that there was nothing to cure, while the “normal’s” sat at home watching it all on the news, or others still sat in office considering bills for mutant registration. “For the good of the people” they said,” too keep the mutant population under control” they said, “to stop them robbing banks or abusing their powers “They said.
They had allowed a mutant into their midst, Professor Henry “Hank” McCoy, better known amongst the mutant community as “The Beast.” Hank’s job was to oversee mutant affairs, and make sure that the mutant population was treated fairly and with respect. After the incident at Alcatraz, the government, and indeed many of the human people became suspicious of mutants, the Government cracked down on Mutant affairs, and tension is growing in the office as Hank McCoy battles for his people. -–

--
The cure.
Some thought it was a blessing, others a curse.
Little did they know its effects were not permanent, and after the events at Alcatraz, there is little hope of a new supply.--

--
Rumours spring forth from the darkness of a mutant underground living and hiding in the darkness beneath the city streets of New York. Rumours that they’re trouble makers, rebels, plotting slowly in the deep reaches of the New York sewer system. Plotting the day when they will rise up from there exile and live in the light once more. While on the surface, every day new factions arise, mutant and human alike, each fighting for their own cause, their own ends.--

--
Rumours spread like wildfire.
Rumours that Magneto may once again be returning to power after being dosed with the “cure” at Alcatraz.
Rumours that his nemesis, and one time friend Charles Xavier has again arisen, back from the dead as it were.
Rumours the government discussed the future of mutants behind closed doors. The Registration act is and was only the beginning, only god knows what lies ahead.--

--
The world is changing.
And through it all, one sleeps.
One who will soon awake to face it all.--

Um, how are superhero RPGs Comic!Fantasy or Mythological?
Kitty5roses - August 1, 2008 04:07 AM (GMT)
Oh sorry, i saw "comic" and figured you meant comic book.
tankgirl - August 1, 2008 05:39 AM (GMT)
don't say sorry kitty, comic fantasy would include superheroes to any normal folk
Jay Serge - August 1, 2008 09:04 AM (GMT)
Sorry I wasn't sure what you meant by Comic!Fantasy, did know if you meant Comic or Fantasy or fantasy comic lol Oh well
FarainiteReveler - August 2, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
What we have here is a forgotten era of language. Comic! to me means non-serious, playful. In modern days, you're talking about graphic novels. Either way, comic! doesn't have anything to do with novels and the like.
In either case, it's now called "Comedic". There's no way you could mistake that.

Terrance Valtrane - August 4, 2008 12:26 AM (GMT)
Hi there,
It seems you like perusing all the different options...and I have one you might like as it has more than one setting, which offers you the sort of variety you desire. I will post a blurb about the Original Fantasy we have. I also like that you give criticism if something that doesn't meet with your tastes and that's the sort of opinion I'm looking for as well. I hope you enjoy this advertisement and if not, I wish you the best of luck finding an RPG :) And heck, we could even use staff if you're active enough.
~Terrance Valtrane, Founder of Triumvirate of Dreams (ToD)
The Dreams of Kelare Welcome to Kelare, an original fantasy world of numerous opportunities. It is a world of five continents, each with races both established and undiscovered- as players are allowed to create their own races. It is a world where powerful god-like Immortals, known as Landrians, meddle in the affairs of the mortal races as they have developed civilizations after a meteor-like embodiment of darkness known as Haate crashed into the world, breaking the one Great Continent into five parts. With this catastrophe, dark creatures known as Devils and Demons have created a link to the world, and the constantly yearn to emerge from their prisons in the Underworld and Abyss to exact chaos or control over the sentient races of Kelare.
It is a world in need of exploration, where brave souls can join others in creating nations and expanding the knowledge of the world. Players can create countries, races, animals and whatever else exists in Kelare in a co-operative, creative environment. For now, this is only a minor sampling of what each continent of Kelare can offer intrepid and creative players.
Zebitha- Like the Great Continent before it, Zebitha was broken into two parts as the result of powerful magic wielded by two powerful Empires, Ravanon and Ardisia, which were influenced by the Immortals who wielded the power of Destruction and Greed. In the end, destruction vanquished greed, and left the continent a shadow realm that allowed the demons of the Underworld to walk the earth under dark clouds. The few brave souls who survived the break find themselves in small communities that work desperately to survive and reclaim the land that was once theirs from the creatures of the night. Will they survive?
Tyra- When the human nation of Ardisia arrived in Tyra, they were welcomed by the non-humans living there, and they used their magic to construct them many gifts. However, after interactions with beings from the Abyss, the human kingdom was once more swayed by dark beings. A Great War was fought with all the non-human realms and eventually the Toladrans are driven out. As the Alliance tries to divide the spoils of that war, the Alliance finds itself disintegrating. Is there hope for the Alliance?
Jurada- A once democratic Republic of Jurada has been upset by the assassination of its elected Emperor, and his son, also elected by corrupt Senators, abolished the role of the Senate and has begun a tyrannical regime where the human majority has enslaved the minority races with the help of the refugee Toladrans, who wield incredible magical power and weapons. However, a small resistance movement of humans and another race known as the Sotari, seeks to restore the liberty that all people of Jurada once shared by the people. The arrival of new allies from the continent of Faenor offers hope, but will the dark magic being created by the Empire’s top mages threaten all hope for freedom?
Faenor- Much like the Juradan allies they have made, the Caius family comes from a land where an Emperor has fallen. Unlike their counterparts, the Ishida family, the Caius family looks to subjugate the other nations by looking to the future by going against tradition and using logic to create new weapons and technology. It is a clash of Gunpowder and old Samurai traditions, in a battle that regardless of outcome should change the entire face of Kelare.
Ispar- A continent, much like Zebitha, that hasn’t been fully explored and discovered by nations from the other continents. Those that have visited these mysterious lands call it the Land of Immortals, where some of the most powerful races live in a constant state of war because of a meddlesome Immortal that covets Chaos. Will there ever be unity in this rugged and wild land? Or will Chaos reign supreme?
These are just the suggested plots for some of these continents, and we are ever-hungry for new writers to join our community and add to the endless wonders and depth of our original fantasy world. Also, if you’re interested in other forms of role-playing we have two other settings, San Lucas (a modern/Vampire and Lycan/big city setting) and Caillus (another setting currently under development)
If you’re interested, please PM me or join us at the link provided below.

I'm sorry, but that site seems awfully... Serious. The fantasy is meant to be taken seriously, not as a satire, which is what I'm looking for. So, thanks, but no thanks.
Terrance Valtrane - August 4, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
Ahh darn, I missed the bit about not wanting it too serious. Sorry for wasting your time :(.
I think the problem was that I was thinking about the silly fantasy setting I used to have on that board, but I never got enough interest in it. Thanks for looking anyway and good luck!
