Title: Either, Or...
Description: A Modern Faerytale, or a new one..

Hey all, not sure how many of you know me from before, but...
about two years ago a friend anD I started villagio di speranz, she turned that into her brainchild and I made A Modern Faerytale, a mytholagical, fantasy rp of sorts. We worked together on it a bit when hers did not work out, but some how it became something I didn't want, and it slowed after just getting members, and I took it offline.
i'd say...clash in management. anyhow< I realized my most recent project is to amf, what AMF was to villagio de speranz, revamped with a bit better plot.
okay, in short i want your advice on whether I should push on with the new site, or simply reopen and revamp AMF since most of the work is done.
i'm appealing to other admins because i figure I must not be the only one who gets stuck when starting a new board, but, I also lose motivation when what I planned story wise does not work out or is changed by others >.>
lol, hopefully someone understands

I get stuck a lot with the board I'm working on, when that happens I see nothing wrong with taking a break. Usually, when I get frustrated with an idea I love but doesn't quite work, I loose interest in it. Keeping up a strong pace can sometimes destroy my drive when creating a forum.
Being lazy, I would probably revamp the old one and probably try to incorporate some of the ideas that you love and would have been on the new one. That would be my choice but mainly, what you feel you can handle and the one you feel that you are more excited and interested in doing. Obviously it's not a decision that could be made in just a few seconds for people, I'd make a list for each idea of what you love about each one. Read through each list and add on whenever you see fit, it might help you decide. I honestly could not tell you from my point of view.
Also, I can't say I ever loose interest in the plot if it changes from what I expect, I find it exciting if that happens. I'm thrilled when my members pull something out of thier sleeve - granted they run things by me if their plans can effect more than just the party they are role playing with.
I think, when you loose interest in a plot so easily when it doesn't go the way you originally planned, it is because you planned too far into the future without leaving room for new ideas. Kind of selfish really but yeah, to try an avoid loosing your interest in a plot... live on the wild side and don't plan everything out so specifically and don't completely depend on it. If you lay out a plan that isn't the least bit lenient, you are setting yourself up to be disappointed. Leaving no room for surprises also takes a lot of fun out of it for the members because it is such a major restriction as far as plotting goes.
This is role playing, with other people, and you have to live with the fact that you cannot predict or control another character's moves. Plots are great but they should always have room for change and should never by planned out in such a way that you become to depend on and expect certain things the happen. I'd tell anyone who wanted to do that to write a book.
((edit: omg... that sounded so ... synical... I apologize if I came off that way. That and I must be really bored at work because I just babbled....))

Thanks for the reply. Very helpful. I think what is discouraging me from the new board is knowing that I have the other one, all set up and ready for members, I just lost interest in the plot because I was working with a beloved friend, and we had different ideas, and some things just didn't fit as well as I'd liked. Fit together I mean. Like, there were holes missing.
I am all for members getting involved. That's why I want my part of the plot to be 'perfect' in my eyes, so that it gives the members inspiration, something to go off of and and on to. Not something they read, tilt their head to the side and say "huh?"
*tries to think how to better explain herself* Jeez Shade, got me feeling like I'm a bad admin who doesn't want my members to contribute to the plot. Mean, just mean!
haha, I kid, I kid.
I guess my conflict is mostly about being lazy. Do I want to go through all the skinning, coding, rule writing, plot writing, board set up, when so much of it is done, and the previous board just has a less thought out plot. Well, it was thought out, I just like what I've added to my new idea recently. (didn't realize how similar the ideas were until I logged in on my old board.)
I know it sounds bad, like I'm a horribly lazy admin, but for me it's more an issue of free time, and fear of getting as far as I did on the other site only to have the admins, or myself get too busy for it, or to lose interest in it. I've only got so many hours a day after work, and then hopefully I will have free weekends, I'm just afraid of having two, completely done, worked out boards, offline lol. When I can add to, and modify the old one.
I also like to talk to other admins, mods, staff whatever to see what they think, and how they've delt with similar situations, it's gets me to thinking more.

Well, if they are as similar as you say, then I (if I were in your place) would definitely be all over the old bored. I title myself a very lazy person as well but wouldn't mind making a new forum though, if that stood against just revamping an old one which is extremely similar then I would simply go for the old one. Creating a new one, which seems to me would be the exact same thing, would be a waste of time and rather pointless. I would just return to the old one, read over what you have and change it up to how you see fit.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, and I may be able to draw back in some old members.
Actually, I'm wondering now of having a double project since a possible admin who shall remain NAMELESS even though he knows who he is!!! doesn't like anime boards ^^ so, I'm considering reviving the old one with the new more thought out parts of the plot, keeping it an anime board, and starting the new one as a sister board, to see how a 'real world fantasy' rp would do versus an anime fantasy rp.
Haha, I'm a lazy one, yet I'm thinking of having both, Le sigh.
You are awesome though, Shade, thanks for the in put.
Maybe now this can be more of a:
Which do you think will do better?
An Anime based fantasy board
or A celebrity look a like fantasy board?
Are there many 'real world' fantasy boards out now? I haven't done forum roleplaying in about a year and a half so I don't know what's goin on lately hehe.
