Title: Sadly Another 'check At My Rules And Stuff' Thread
Description: Don't hate meeee.

macabremarionette - July 24, 2008 01:00 AM (GMT)
excuse my title.
talking on the phone while typing does not help when trying to use correct english xD

I need some people to check out my rules, to see what I could do to improve them and make my board more appealing.

If you must view my actual board you can click on the left right top banner in my sig. :]

But anywaaay, here are my rules. I tried to not come off as an extremely strict admin, see if you think it worked. Also, I don't think I am, but do you think I'm missing anything? .__.
QUOTE
`+:; If you end up joining, you are asked to make your display name your character's first and last name with proper capitalization. Please do not include any fancy symbols or punctuation. Things like playa6468810 are not acceptable. You may, however, have middle names if you'd like. That's all up to you.

`+:; Here you may have as many characters as you wish, but please only create as many as you can handle. We expect you to be active on every one of your characters. This means don't overload yourself with too many for you to handle. Also, this isn't an absolute must, but please try to make the genders even. This is because we don't want an abnormally large amount of females or males as opposed to a pretty even amount.

`+:; We ask that you try to be as active as possible. We aren't going to say you should post every single day, but at least try to give us four in-character posts a week. This isn't really asking much, I don't think. If you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, lasting a week or more, please post it in the absences board. I don't feel the need to implement it, but if there is enough inactivity, I will be having activity checks every few weeks or so. Inactive members will first warned, and if it continues their account will be suspended for a certain amount of time.

`+:; Speaking of characters, while we would love for you to adopt a canon, we also accept originals of each race. You are allowed to reserve a canon for one week, and the same goes for a face claim. Canons are on a first come, first serve basis, but if the time comes when more than one person is competing for a single canon, we will wait until all applications are complete before choosing which we prefer. Please don't be disheartened if you don't get the canon you want; it's not necessarily that we don't like you, your writing style, or anything of that sort. We just probably don't think you fit with that role as well as another does.

`+:; Right now we only allow humans, werewolves, and vampires to be played, though more races may be possible in the future. There can't be any kind of crossbreed between vampires and werewolves, or vampires and humans, because both genders of our vampires are sterile. If a human and werewolf go bump in the night, they can have a child, but it is only fifty-percent possible that it will also be a werewolf.

`+:; While we're on the subject of offspring, if your female character has sex with Gary down yonder, they are only allowed to become pregnant if it is approved by the staff.

`+:; This RPG takes place in the extremely fictional towns of Calista Falls and Helios Beach. They are located in the United States, but the exact state they are located in is a big mystery. But you don't really need a state to roleplay. Helios Beach is on a beach, and Calista Falls is located next to it. Enough said. If you have any kinds of questions, which you really shouldn't... Then PM an administrator.

`+:; There will be absolutely no stretching of the boards! Avatars can be no bigger than 125x125, and signatures may be no larger than 600x250. And please, no nudity in those two images, because some people don't want to see that sort of thing.

`+:; We are rated M for mature. If you cannot handle the mention of sex, drugs, alcohol, violence, gore, etc, you are cautioned when joining. They are allowed on the boards, but we expect that when such a thing shall be occuring in a thread, that the thread title is marked in some way to warn possible readers. It's only common sense, people. Some people don't want to be stumbling into something they don't want to see.

`+:; There is to be absolutely no prejudice or discrimination of any kind out of character. This is pretty self explanatory. I understand that some characters are bigots, so it is allowed to a certain degree in character -- don't overdo it! If it is seen out of character, you will be given a warning. Your account will be suspended for a month on the second offense and banned on the third, no questions asked. And when you're banned, it's not just your account, it's your IP.

`+:; This should already be known, but there will be no god-moding or powerplaying at all. I'm not going to go into detail with this, that's enough I think. If you're unclear as to what these are, PM an administrator and they will be more than happy to help you out.

`+:; You are expected to post in third person past tense when in character. No "I go to the store and pick up some apples, then go home". Yes I know, it's a lovely example, so sue me.

`+:;We know no one's perfect, but please try to use correct punctuation, grammar, and spelling. This is really important. We'll overlook a few mistakes here and there, but don't make a habit out of it.

`+:;We aren't really going to set up specific rules as to how long a post should be, but please try to be as detailed as possible. We ask that you have two somewhat lengthy paragraphs, and make sure to put more emphasis on actions than thoughts in most cases! This makes it easier for your fellow roleplayers to respond, because unless you're a vampire with the power -- and not every one does have it -- the other characters can't read your character's mind. Quality over quantity, methinks. We like short meaningful posts more than lengthy pointless ones, those just get old sometimes.

Any feedback =

Admittedly my own posting speed (turtle-esque) isn't a good one, however I do think four a week is a bit much; some weeks, ten, even twenty are easy to manage, others some people struggle to make one or two.

We have beaches where I live. We also have blizzards and ice storms in the winter, and our oceans could freeze a penguin. While a state isn't really necessary, the general climate might be.

Overall, your rules and such look pretty good ^^;;

I see what you mean on the per-week-postage-deal. I will tweak that rule. Thanks for pointing it out. ^^

And as for the whole climate deal, I see what you mean. I think I'll make a thread on the setting, and provide a link to it there in that rule.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it. ^^
