Title: Not Another 'look At My Rules' Think

Radsos - July 22, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
My aim for these rules was supposed to be simple, sweet, and to the point.

Yeah, does it sound good?

Did I miss anything important?

QUOTE
Rules & Regulations

1. Quality over quantity. This means that it would be much appreciated if you put out quality posts over long posts full of purple prose. There is no minimum of posting as long as you give something to reply to that is decent. Members, however, are expected to have proper grammar and spelling.

2. Rating. This site is rated Mature. However, in a thread with mature themes, you must put in the top of your first post of the topic why it is rated 'M' in clear lettering. If a topic starts out innocent and turns to the less than innocent side of life, then contact an admin and they are required to put the rating in the title.

2a. Mature would be considered as sex scenes, heavy alcohol intake, extreme violence, and heavy language.

3. Sensitive Topics. Things such as rape, suicide, and drugs are not allowed. For dangerous things such as anorexia (or other eating disorders), heavy alcohol intake, and sex: your character can and will most likely face consequences for their actions. Keep that in mind. Mental illness will also be monitered closely.

4. Characters. There is a limit to how many characters you may have. The number, right now, is four. You may have more, but may only have two gamers at most. Contact an admin if you want more characters. Know that this is an account-per-character roleplay.

5. No plagiarizing.

6. No power-playing/god-modding. If something is questionable - then you must ask the person you are roleplaying about it.

7. Perfect characters. There are no perfect people, so perfect characters are not allowed. Whether you play them or make them, Mary Sues or Gary Stus will be deleted.

8. Plot Pages. They are banned from this roleplay. There is no section to make them, so please do not make them. We do, however, have other ways of plotting.

9. Avatars only. Avatars can be 200x150 in size, no larger. There are no signatures on this board. They make the posts cluttered and the threads disjointed.

10. Harassment. Rumors, member-bashing, sexual/racial slurs, and other forms of harrassment are not allowed here at TIR. No exceptions.

11. Absences. This is more of a courtesy than anything else, but please post in the 'Leaving and Returning' part of the updates forum when you know you will be gone for a time longer than three days.

12. Activity. Activity checks will take place once a month. If you miss an activity check without posting a leaving notice then your account will be deleted. You, however, can always come back to reclaim your character.

13. Respect. Respect your fellow members, your admins, and yourself. Do not start any fights OOC wise. Here at TIR, we will not tolerate drama llamas.

14. Rights. The staff reserves the right to change these rules any time they see fit. They also reserve the right to ban anyone who breaks the rules or causes problems.

15. Consequences. Now, we do not want to punish people for breaking the rules, but if problems arise, we will not be shy of it. Seeing as some things are more serious violations of the rules than others, we will leave the possibilities for consequences blank for the moment.

16. Have fun!

EDIT;; I spelled 'think' instead of 'thing' in the title. DAMN TYPOS.

Rules should be sweet and simple, so overall, I think the rules you have are okay - but maybe you could work on getting straight to the point and avoiding the obvious or making redundant points.

2. Rating. This site is rated Mature. But there are many strings attached - you must put in the top of your first post of the topic why it is rated 'M' in clear lettering. If a topic starts out innocent and turns to the less than innocent side of life, then contact an admin and they are required to put the rating in the title. This means that if an admin sees a topic that is not marked and has something mature in it, then you will be punished for it.
Having "strings attached" is generally considered a bad thing, so I'd probably take that out and say something like "This site is rated Mature, but please warn people at the top of your first post why the topic is rated M." I also suggest staying away from phrases like "you'll be punished." If it's a rule, it's already clear that they're guidelines to be obeyed. Saying someone will be punished just sounds bad, at least IMO.

You might also want to post a brief description of what is considered "Mature."

10. Harrassment. Rumors, member-bashing, mutiny, and other forms of harrassment are not allowed here at TIR. No exceptions.
You mean I can't suggest overthrowing the administration? lmao. When I read mutiny, I had two reactions: 1) "Well, duh!" and 2) So does this mean I have to follow everything the admin says without question? Maybe leave the mutiny part out and just make a general rule that says no disrespecting fellow players -- admins and members alike. Also, it's spelled harassment. :]

Maybe you could expand that to three days or so. Otherwise you'll get a lot of absences...

Sorry if this came out harsh or rude. I didn't mean to sound like that. :[ I can't think of anything big you missed; you seem to have hit all the big points. Just try not to sound negative by saying people will be banned/punished (or at least be a little less blunt about it).

#2 --- Changed it. I'm trying to pretty much go back and make sure that the only rule that mentions stuff like consequences/punishment is the rule about consequences... and that's kinda vague on it too.

#10 --- I was remembering horror stories about things that happened to really good admins... *Poor, poor guys...* When really evil roleplayers came along. But, yeah, I took it out, replaced it with 'sexual/racial slurs'.

#11 --- Good point. LOL.

So, if I post something "mature", and the admin is reading it when I post, I can be punished before I have a chance to PM them.

Also, what you consider "mature" is subjective, so you really do need to define it.

Too bad if anyone loses their internet connection, or is in an accident, or has any other unforeseeable event befall them.

7. Perfect characters. There are no perfect people, so perfect characters are not allowed. Whether you play them or make them, Mary Sues or Gary Stus will be deleted. Repeat offenders of this rule may be perma-banned.

Perfection is also subjective. You'll want to define that for your members as well.

It's funny, you picked on things I already went back and changed - for the most part.

#2 was, in the beginning, more referring to if you had not contacted an admin soon after such a post/plans were made to make it go violent/sexual/gory. It's more to keep people from posting something, having the thread go on, and going a week without PMing the admin 'hey, mark this thread.' It can actually cause a lot of damage with guest visits sometimes (I know some weird ass horror stories, you know...)

#11. If someone loses net connection, most people can find a way to be on the net for a few moments - either by work, school, or going to the library, most can find a way to post and say 'hey, my PC is crappy and won't let me use the net. I may not be on for a few days.' However you do bring up a good idea to say that it is more of a courtesy than a rule, but should be recognized.

#7. I'm more planning to have something like a documentation of what a Mary Sue/Gary Stu is linked to that. At this point, I'm still looking around for it (early stages of making RP)

One day seems a little excessive. Not to mention I cannot really see how you would manage to enforce this... but, if I were looking at a site saw that it required me to somehow prove I was online every single day, I would probably feel too overwhelmed and end up not joining. Maybe three days would be a little more reasonable?

These rules seem very... angry to me. Unwelcoming, I guess. I mean, yes, it's important that members understand that the staff has authority, but don't you also want to well.. befriend some of the members? You know, make them part of the community?

*chuckles* I believe I edited while you were posting. You will find the day number is changed to three/four and that I note that it is more of a courtesy than a requirement, but would be appreciated.

Also, these rules are supposed to be simple and to the point. I know it's good to befriend people, but putting personality and attitude into the rules is not the way for me - especially considering the fact that I have a particular sense of humor that people often don't understand or take literally.
