Title: Greetings And Merry Meet!

starrykitty - July 20, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Hello all! I found this board through an RPG of a friend, and I really like what you're doing here! The layout is gorgeous too.. :) You can call me Starry or Mina ^^ Both internet aliases.

I've very recently started my own RPG, and as a total RP addict, I'm excited to see what all is out there. Sometimes just searching on google isn't enough, you know? There are so many inactive or dead rpgs that pop up first because they're old... it gets frustrating! Here I hope to find more awesome active rpgs, as well as members for mine :p

As to introducing myself... I'm at a sort of crossroads in my life right now. I recently graduated from college with my bachelor's degree in graphic design, and I was working as web developer at an advertising agency for 6 months. However, the economy has hit that market hard, and the company I worked for is suffering greatly, so they had to let me and a few others go. It's been about a month since I left there, and I still have been unsuccessful in finding anything. I'm either under or over qualified it seems. :( But I'm still searching!

My interests are rpgs of course, reading, writing, graphics, web design, video games, music (listening and playing - clarinet), movies, tennis, doing things with my dogs, and spending time with friends and boyfriend.

That was kinda long winded haha, my apologies... so hello everyone! :p

Hey starry! Welcome to RPG-D. ^ - ^ If google was all you really used to find RPGs, then you will love the directory we have here. It's really easy to find RPGs there, and even easier if you post a request in our Requesting RPGs forum.

I'm actually majoring in graphic design right now, about to enter my second full year .. I had no idea the economy had hit the industry so hard, though. Here's to you finding a great job, and soon! <3

Oh, and I'm Brianna by the way. xD Although most people just call me SC, or something like that. Nice to meet ya.

starrykitty - July 20, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
Hi Brianna! Thank you for the warm welcome :) I can already tell I'll love coming to this forum :)

As to your major and the industry.. well, I do not live in a very large city, so it's really hard here. Larger places, such as Dallas or San Antonio, have lots of available things. The bad thing is that most places want you to have like 2 years of experience, which kinda sucks, but I still apply anyways lol.

I hope that you have great luck getting a job when you get out! And thanks for the wishes of luck for me ^^ I certainly hope so too!

Nda - July 20, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
Heya! Wow, so many graphic design majors. ^-^ I'm one myself. XD

I can totally understand where you're coming from, either being under- or over-qualified. It would suck to get turned down for a job position because of wanting another two years of schooling. =/ I still haven't decided if I want to go associates or bachelors, but I might go associates because of money. XD

Anyway! Welcome aboard, I'm Nda. =] I'm sure you'll find everything you need and more! ^-^

starrykitty - July 21, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
Yay for graphic designers! :D

Yeah, and the sad thing is, I just want to do the web thing. My college didn't offer any sort of web design courses, so my experience has to come from actual work. -.- A lot of the jobs around here ask for bachelor's, but I have seen a good number that only want associates and/or experience. So I think you would probably be fine with just your 2 year degree! But that's dependant on what's available wherever you want to work too ;)

Thanks for the welcome Nda ^_^ I certainly hope so :D

Greymalkin - July 21, 2008 02:08 AM (GMT)
Hi, Starry! Welcome aboard.

Sorry to hear about your employment difficulties. Wish there was some help or advice I could give you beyond 'keep looking.'

Good luck with your search. :)

Blessed Be.

starrykitty - July 21, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
Hi Grey, and thank you very much for your welcome!

Yep, don't worry I'm still looking and still applying. Someone's GOTTA respond sooner or later, even if it is Lowe's or Sam's Club lol. But money is money. Thanks for the thought! :D

December, Esq - July 21, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)
Oh good heavens; the economy sucks like no other. And now all of the middle-aged adults are stooping down to lower positions and knocking all of the recent high school grads out of the way, so the kids can't get any work, either.

But I digress.

Hello, I'm December, Esq (also called Dec) and I am a fourth-year college student. Welcome to RPG-D and I hope you find what you're looking for here. :] There are plenty of RPs to choose from around in these parts.

Oh, and best of luck on the job hunt.

starrykitty - July 21, 2008 03:41 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I can see that happening too. It's really BLAH.

Thank you for the welcome December, it's nice to meet you. ^^ And I thank you for the luck, I definitely need it. If/when I find something I will certainly let you all know.

Evil evil monopolies!

Hmm....PM me your link? I'd like to look at your site, although I really shouldn't join any more. Hehe. =D

As for the 'over or under qualified' thing, how can one be over qualified and not be hired? Doesn't make sense to me. Oh well. I guess that's how the job market goes.

I'm Savannah or Cat. My name on the cbox *points down below* is Cat. =) Call me either or.
I personally call myself Cat because 1. It's shorter, and 2. It's part of my login name, blackcatluvr. So. =)

starrykitty - July 21, 2008 06:29 AM (GMT)
Yay, another cat lover! :D *Squee* Nice to meet you Cat! And I will PM it to you. It's brand new so not many members yet ^^

About the over qualified thing... I guess some employers feel like if you're overqualified you might I dunno know more than the superiors or something? Or act like you know more? Who knows! It is kinda dumb, but I've found that's how it works x.x

Thanks for the welcome!

blackcatluvr - July 21, 2008 09:07 AM (GMT)
Haha. Yesh, I have two cats. Minuit, my black cat, and Skittles, my tabby..ish looking cat. =)

Okie dokie, I'll go look at it. =)

Hmm...that does seem kinda dumb. But, I suppose that's the way it works.

You're welcome!

starrykitty - July 21, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
Aww kitties! Do you have piccies? :) I can't have a cat right now sadly, but the moment I'm able to I'm getting one! I'm terribly allergic so my cat will be indoors only and have a bath in a dander reduction shampoo every other week. *nodnod*

Yep, my friend who got laid off at the same time as me is having the EXACT SAME issue! :(

blackcatluvr - July 22, 2008 11:57 AM (GMT)
Hmm...I think I may have a few on my deviantART. I have a link for that in my portfolio I think. *pokes portfolio board*
Well, I'll just give you the linkeh. =)
Here.
:)
Aw. Well, at least you'll get one when you can! :)

Oh wow. That's weird. But its kind of bad, because that makes you think how bad everything's going now.
I heard on the news that congress or something was thinking of raising the gas taxes or something. Great. :p

starrykitty - July 23, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
OH I'm so watching you on DA and gonna comment on ur kitty pics :D And I will get one asap :)

Yeah and that's something I don't like to think about cuz it's really depressing. Raising the tax? Wth is wrong with them? It's seriously bogus, we can barely afford gas as it is! *shakes fist* x.x

blackcatluvr - July 23, 2008 06:31 AM (GMT)
Haha, great! I have a stalker! :p
hehe.

Yeah, I know. It's pretty stupid. :-/
