Title: My Rules
Description: yes another one of those threads...

Shade - July 19, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Well, I once again edited the rules on my site and was wondering if they were up to par with what people look for. I went for the idea of not being completely yada strict but am I being too lenient? Please, I would appreciated it if at least one someone read through them and told me what they thought.

Out of Character (o.O.c.)

Be respectful and nice to everyone. It is important that we keep the peace within this community. Disturbing the peace among members will only result in punishment that will be decided by the staff members. Please refrain from flaming or name calling, even if in play, its best to avoid the drama of a simple misunderstanding. We do, however, encourage friendly debate and the right of expressing one's opinion. There is also a need for people to be aware of the feelings of others, we do allow things like cussing in the cbox but please don't overdo it because that can be something that others would find offensive.

This is a mature forum for mature role players. Things such as vulgar language, violence, drugs, and sexual content are factors that are allowed and may show up in some of our threads. Being rated PG-13 and up, we wouldn't suggest if any of those factors bother you, that you join. We would not want any of our members to be uncomfortable so if the mature content on this forum does have a chance of bothering you, please don't join. We wouldn't want our members to be stressed/upset over a thing like that.

Post a notice if you are going to be absent for a certain amount of time. It is really helpful to post a notice when you know you are going to be absent and to also try to do it in advance. There is just something very comforting in knowing that a member of ours hasn't just fallen off the face of the earth. We do worry when someone just vanishes, so please try to lessen the stress and let us know if you are going to be gone or if you are leaving. There is a forum specifically for this so please use it.

Do not steal. All work on here is credited to their original owners. Stealing from any site without permission would be breaking copyright laws.

Posting (i.c.)

Don't stress too much over post length because we only ask that you put effort and some gold ol' TLC into your posts. Try to watch the spelling in your posts, as well as grammar, this is something that we will warn someone about if they show signs of progressively bad grammar with little or no signs of improvement from one post to the next.

Be active, it is our hope that most people would try to post at least two to three times a week. However, we understand that some of us have busy lives and won't always be able to post. We encourage that you try.

This is a fantasy rpg but, take into prospective that your character does have weaknesses and limits, be as realistic as possible. Not every character has the ability to perform miracles at their will.

Avoid power playing and god moding. If you are unaware of what these are, see the help files. These two things can cause a major rift between role players because it is a common mistake that many don't realize they are doing and it can be upsetting for the participating role players.

If you are posting in a thread with more than two people, it is strongly advised that a posting order be created among the group. This will help keep members from getting left behind.

Don't Forget To Have Fun!!

Have fun! These rules are specifically made to ensure that there is some sort of order on the forums to try and lessen stressful situations and keep our forums as carefree as possible. It is our goal to make absolutely sure that our members are not victim to harrassment of any kind or from any source in this community.

Have fun! There is more than enough things to do to get involved! We encourage you to jump headfirst into one of the many groups that wander our world of Caesilon. Talk to other members and find out what ideas they've got swimming through their crazy little minds and share your own! Jump right into the world of plotting.

Have fun! If fun doesn't come to you, go and get it. The staff tries their best to create many opportunities for our members and would love for them to be taken advantage of.

Have fun! There are many games to play in the members lounge. Forum games are sometimes the greatest way to get to know your fellow members, fun too! Share your artwork with others, create a gallery where members can request artwork for their characters.

Have Fun! Help make the community even more fun by offering suggestions! No not all suggestions will be used but they will all be read and you can expect the staff to reply and give a reason why they will or will not use it. Perhaps offer to use the same idea but change it up a bit so that it would perhaps fit better.

I really don't think have fun! should be a rule. Shouldn't it be automatic? :p

I think its pretty good, just check a tiny error I saw in the absences rule.

"It is really helpful to post a notice when you know you are going to be absent and to also try to do it in advance"

Shouldn't it be

"It is really helpful to post a notice when you know you are going to be absent and do also try to do it in advance"

Just thought I'd let you know about that part, other than that though, like I said, they look good.

No, because some people are stupidheads and treat this like a job. :p

Okay, Shade, I did the same thing I'd do if I saw this on a board I was interested in joining: I skimmed. Why? Because I cannot read to save my life and seeing those big ol' paragraphs scared me. Hoorah for bold? ;)

But seriously, I didn't read every word because I'm not very good at reading and all of that stuff. So if these were really on your board and I were really interested in joining and all of that jazz, I would just skim them. It seems that I can get the basic point from the boldedness.

Seriously? This wasn't that long at all considering other forums.

Shade: If you wanna cut down on babbling and size in the OOC section, I'd suggest just killing all the paragraphs except the maturity one, and then elaborating on the maturity paragraph a bit more (whilst killing off some of the unnecessary parts).

If you were cool like me, you'd just say "Hey, be mature. If you don't know how to be mature, here is a great netiquette site for you." And then link them to a website that explains internet maturity. That is really all I do.

Reduce babbling about the OOC stuff and focus in on the IC stuff that needs explaining.

As for the Don't Forget to Have Fun section, I thought it was effective. But most people will see that it is you preaching how to have fun on an RP forum, which might be one of those tiny things that people get annoyed about.

I know; imagine how bad I am with a board with long rules. :p But hey, I'm the first to admit that I have a terrible attention span.

Just a small suggestion. When you ask people to watch the spelling and grammar in their posts, be careful not to have typos and run-on sentences in your rules.;-) Also "progressively bad grammar" would not show signs of improvement, because it would be getting worse as the game goes along.

I do not like wordy rules, myself, but I understand that sometimes you need them. People just don't get it sometimes. Having the rule in a simple sentence, with more elaborate phrasing in the description (like you have yours) is a good compromise. Like Dec., Esq. points out, you can get what you need from what's been put in bold.

I really liked the "Have fun!" section, particularly starting each paragraph with "Have fun!" Yes, that's what we're all here for, in theory, so it should go without saying. Like I said above, however, people just don't get it sometimes.

I should point out that I never, ever do that. Really. o.O
