Title: The Real Thing: Talented Writers Required.
Description: (modern era)

SmathNa - July 18, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
I know: me, asking for an RP? I just like to play briefly on sites that aren't mine, to see what it's like. And one I've been on for awhile is just closing down, and I have a month of empty summer time after my job ends... so why not? I need to see things from a member's point of view, or I'll get really arrogant. Er, more arrogant.

Bear in mind, I AM as picky as I habitually sound. Not about length: about quality. If your board has a Mary Sue problem: don't post. If your board is based on romance: don't post. If the members of your board routinely mix up they're/their/there and can't tell a runon sentence from a rainbow: don't post. If your board is excellent and most members are mature, good writers, post, but pay attention to my requirements. I will ignore any post that's just an ad, with no explanation of why I might like it.

When I do join, as a side note, I'm very nice. :p I've just seen it too often on the RPG requests: threads swamped with mediocre sites that have nothing to do with what the person making the request has asked for. So read carefully, OK? You'll get more members if you aren't desperate.

Genre: Modern. I'm willing to try X-Men, but I'd prefer something... perhaps crime-related. Ideally with adult characters. Maybe vampire/werewolf, but only if it isn't glamorized ridiculously. No high-school RP. Ever. Ever, ever, ever. If someone has a really interesting Harry Potter RP that allows you to play an Auror, I may consider it, but it's unlikely. An RP set in the past, or some sort of Mafia RP, is possible, but no medieval or Tudor-era sites.
Difficulty: I'd say 'advanced,' but that's meaningless. If you can write at a college level (yes, you, Admin), and you trust most of your members to approach that, then you're OK. The shorter the length requirement, the better. I don't like to feel compelled to pound out yards and yards of purple crap-prose in order to meet some inane quota. I write well. I write succinctly.
Type(s) of Creature(s): Humans, predominantly. I may consider werewolves, but it isn't my ideal.
Preferred Rating: PG-13/R and up; I use salty language. When I'm playing modern, my characters tend to throw 'f***' around like there's no tomorrow.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: Active. When I say active, I mean 10+ IC posts a day. Active means if I post with someone, they won't take two weeks to get back to me; it means the cbox is in working order and often-used. I'll make an exception if the site has just opened. I don't mind the inactivity on a new board, and chances are, I'll help get things going.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Modern, within the last 100 years, at least.

Other Notes:

Now, I'm not entirely sure what I want. If someone has an RP that's just mindboggling well-crafted, you can post that, even if it doesn't fit all of the requirements (still, mind the 'don'ts!'). However, my wrath will be upon you if you don't explain why someone as picky as I am should join!

Please don't just post your ad. Post a decent explanation of what I might like. In return, I'll post back with an explanation of what I liked/didn't like about your site; how's that? It's a tradeoff.

If it helps, the sorts of characters I play are chiefly male, either young or old, and very ideologically-inclined. I pick my characters for their philosophies of life. In other words, I'll play someone who believes the world's a competition, or the only purpose in life is pleasure, or that duty to one's family is of highest importance. You know, some sort of driven person. I like to get psychological, so if there's a morally-fraught conflict on your board, I'll be into that. I also like violence.

Oh, and if the skin is gray-on-gray, neon-on-black, or has very small font: it may not work out. I have bad vision, and to warn you, I always post in default font.

December, Esq - July 18, 2008 01:04 AM (GMT)
I guess I'll be the first brave soul, eh? Well, I know you said no high school RPs, and I'm not really here to offer you one. Camp December has high school-aged people, but not high school itself. I really don't know how picky you are on that since you didn't specify :p Heck, for all I know you just don't like the institution, right? (Actually, I try to steer away from stereotypical teen drama, but I'll admit that there may be some. I really don't know.)

At any rate, Camp December has no minimum post requirements (though we prefer you write more than one line) and it's pretty laid back. Um . . . and it's named after me. Which is in and of itself a pretty cool thing. Oh, and we're active. We're just starting out, so yeah. Here's the ad:

Ever wanted to go to a summer camp but decided that the dirt and the sun wasn't for you? Or perhaps you want to go but you don't have the time. Well then, come to Camp December.

Camp December is a virtual summer camp that lasts approximately 2-3 months in real time while we RP a month-long summer camp. During these two months you can make characters, create plots, expand relationships while meeting new people in the roleplaying community.

Join us at Camp December

SmathNa - July 18, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
It's a decent site, and I did take a look at it, but ultimately, it just isn't up to my insane standards.

To wit:
1. The blue in your skin makes my eyes bleed.
2. The quality of the apps I checked out, and the posts, isn't all that impressive.
3. High school, summer camp... pretty fine line there, isn't it?

Note: no summer camps, please.

Thanks, though, and good luck with the site. :)

More brave souls?

AshBeanNun - July 18, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
Ooh, SmathNa is free for a few weeks? *prepares member fishing pole harpoon* You may be interested in playing an auror or other character at After Graduation. It's an AU post-DH HP based around life after Hogwarts, as witches and wizards make their way in the world. We're active, friendly, and member/plot focused.

It's late in the summer of 2018; Harry Potter and other important leaders have gone missing, and Minister Shacklebolt is dead. The press is trying to get information on what's happening, but the Ministry is barring them from even standard access, and rumors are running rampant. There's trouble between the magical and muggle world as the statutes of secrecy are stretched thin by mixed blood families, and the 'apparition bug' is nabbing more and more people, both magical and non, with every passing week.

The root of the problems? Two groups working in tandem to return the wizarding world to the good 'ole days of purist power and blood discrimination (they hope to accomplish in the UK what the Irish prevented in their gruesome Blood Revolution just a few years earlier). In order to achieve their means, one group has bribed the dept. of mysteries into creating a fourth unforigvable curse; a curse which gives the caster control of the victim's soul. The Daily Prophet is on the verge of discovering the curse. Currently, however, we're still in the days of rumors and insecurity.

PG-13, Intermediate/Advanced, very active, and the skin is lovely and legible if I do say so myself. *brushes shoulders off* As to the sort of characters you play, it sounds like they'll fit very well into the morally-fraught conflict of the fourth unforgivable. (You may be interested in RPing with Logan Fletcher in particular, the man who created the fourth unforgivable). Since you don't plan on sticking around, maybe we could work out a plot where your charrie is eventually killed due to the 4th unforgivable? We'd love to have you, whatever you decide! Here's the ad, it has some more info in it that I haven't talked about already.

QUOTE

AFTER GRADUATION: THE FOURTH UNFORGIVABLE

"I'm afraid that I cannot share the particulars with you. I work in the Department of Mysteries; you understand. Suffice it to say that we seek to understand the differences between magic and Muggle; moreover, why they are different."

"An Unspeakable?...Humor me, are you really trying breed a new race of Super Blast-Ended Skrewts to use in a war against the French wizarding community?"

"I'm afraid the truth of our work is a great deal less amusing."

"I refuse to believe your work is boring. I'm sure you're working on something utterly fascinating, like trying to unlock the mysteries of the human soul."

"Do you find the human soul fascinating?"

"Well, yes, I suppose I do. It is the very essence of who we are. It transcends death itself. That's what makes the Dementors so utterly terrifying. They weren't just destroying your body, they were destroying your very being. You can exist without a body, ghosts are proof of that...but your soul is everything."

THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC WANTS YOUR SOUL.

•• AG is a post-DH Harry Potter roleplay based around life after Hogwarts. Our characters are adults and recent Hogwarts graduates who are now full members of the wizarding community. The setting of the site is the wizarding U.K. rather than Hogwarts.

•• It's the summer of 2018. Harry Potter has gone missing and Minister Shacklebolt has been murdered. Dubbed the 'apparition bug' by the Daily Prophet, these mysterious disappearances happen to many important wizarding leaders through the summer months. With so many leaders gone, how will the young men and women taking their places cope? Can they overcome the challenges they encounter in the wide wizarding world? Or will they meet the same unfortunate fate as their predecessors? It's the new Wizarding world, and here, the soul is everything.

•• AG is intermediate/advanced with a PG-13 rating. Our joining process is simple; post your profile, and you're automatically accepted. The Admin strive to make every member and character an important part of the site. No matter whether you create an original or adopt a canon, you're always an important contributor to the site. The community is very friendly; we love chatting with guests about any questions or comments they have, so we'd love it if you dropped us a word in the chat box. Looking forward to your visit--Carmen & Spiv, site admin.

Behind the Veil

Behind the Veil is an RPG set in Los Angeles, California. It is an R-rated RPG, for adult content and violence and languge...etc. Predominantly adult, but we don't have any age discrimination.

It's a crossover of several White Wolf gamelines, but the good thing is that you can still join even if you don't have a clue what that means. There are human players... werewolves... vampires... mages... for all that we offer, its still relatively simple.

We do have rules regarding post length, but it's nothing too insane or farfetched and we are somewhat lenient, as long as you don't degenerate to making one-line posts.

Also, we're very new, our official open date is August 1, but as you can see we're already well on our way to reaching our goals.

Note: Though we allow "fantasy"characters, we have a strict "realism" rule. Characters can die. We also have a neat Consequence clause that makes role-play even more interesting, for example: a character who constantl sleeps around may one day receive a notice (by PM) that's she's two weeks pregnant. Lol

Keira Blacktalon - July 18, 2008 01:38 AM (GMT)
Might not be what you're looking for as I don't think we get up to 10+ IC posts a day (however judging from our activity just today...we're definitely just about there with our sudden player influx. xD). We're a small original modern horror community with a love for realism and mortal characters. Our players are active, our premise original with loads of character possibilities and the Cbox is ALWAYS active. ^^ Check us out if y'like. http://z10.invisionfree.com/UL_Shadows_of_...dex.php?act=idx

Oh, and we prefer advanced players definitely though we advertise as inter./advanced. We do have some seriously talented writers.

And the 18+ age cap should warn you about the R-rated content we can sometimes flaunt. xD

SmathNa - July 18, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
Ash:

I love the site idea. And the Fourth Unforgivable seems very interesting. I'm definitely going to browse further, and it seems like a great place for my earnest, driven Auror. I may well join. Thank you! You win, so far. :) Can we talk about this on some IM?

GoddessofWar:

Thanks, but no thanks. A little too much supernatural, and not a fandom I know of in the least. Nor is it one I want to learn about. Thanks for your time!

Keira Blacktalon:

You're right, it isn't what I'm looking for: too few members, and your skin is eye-wrenching. The quality also isn't up to par, from what I can see.

I don't mind R-rated and above in the least; the only qualm I have is when every other thread is pornographic. I don't object morally; I just find it boring as Hell.

Dirty Little Secret !

At this moment, there are six billion, four hundred seventy million, eight hundred eighteen thousand, six hundred seventy one people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil.

Six billion people in the world, six billion souls, and sometimes…all you need is ONE.
Everyone makes mistakes, everyone has secrets, but what if just what if your mistake or secret was big enough to make you run and hide would you run? Leave behind the people you grew to love: friends, family, children, spouses, everyone in your life? Well, there’s a city in New Mexico that allows this… Albuquerque, perched right in the valley of the mountains in the middle of the desert. There’s tons of things here to start your new life. But be careful as the secret city grows bigger it’ll grow harder to keep your secret with newcomers from peoples hometowns come in, how long is your new life going to be a secret still.

Dirty Little Secret!

Our site just opened there is a cannon list but its just a suggestion of seacreats you character could have you can come up with your own.
Its real-life with the 20+ crowed. Our post requirement length is at least 2 lines and if you think it should be shorter its fine to just use your judgment at least give the other person something to work with. The application isnt long 300+ words its fairly easy to complete minimum of a paragraph for history and personality but most of our members put way more then that its really up to you. The site is about secrets that you had in an different town and came to NM to get away from it all. its fairly new started this tuesday in fact. Wed definitely love to have you. Admins are very friendly if you need help we answer your questions theres at least one on for the majority of the day if not were off advertising and will be back shortly. loads of activity going on in the chat-box along with the game forum.

LittleRikku - July 18, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
Wow. Okay, so im going to try and be brave. xD I wont waste your time on silly introductions and start inviting you to join.

You said you wanted something a bit crime-related, focusing on adults yes? Well, Casino: Fatale is something that focuses on adults only. Of course, you may add an npc of a child, but really...the characters accepted are only allowed to be 18+. But before you freak out, it isnt sex-oriented. This roleplay focuses on formerly a government procedure that involves a struggle within a dog-eat-dog environment.

Where better else to do it than Vegas? Thats where the two teams are situated, and they both fight each other for what they believe "protection" should be.

Activity is very nice, as an admin, im on every day and try to dish out replies as quickly as i can. I cant give you an estimate number on how many IC posts are developed, but i can let you know that you wont be sitting around for weeks with a thread. We just dont allow it.

As a board, we keep ourselves a family. We like to talk to each other through messengers whenever we can and to get to know how all of us work and develope different plotlines. As an admin, im very open to ideas but i wont allow my rules to be broken. Bent? Maybe...it depends on the situation.

We are a literate to advanced site, and through encouragement, we never seem to see less than 2 well written paragraphs. We focus on keeping our roleplays entertaining and since there is a struggle going, expect violence. ;)

I like to communicate with the members, so if you have any questions, just post on the cbox and i'll definately get back to you as soon as i read it. [dont expect ignorance] and even if i dont answer it, no doubt someone else will depending on the question.

Anyways, i hope to see you there <333 We're still a bit new, and good promising members would be wonderful.

Las Vegas is where anything goes, and everything stays. All the secret affairs, gambling, it's where people go for time to just have 'fun'. But then, there's always cheaters to this system and sometimes, it's not always fun for everyone else.

Casino: Fatale is a Literate To Advanced roleplay forum about transparant societies underneath all the lights, and the fancy colors that Las Vegas holds. Two teams, FALCON, and RAVEN, oppose each other in pure hatred for one another, or at least, their leaders due to beliefs about the way things should be run. Main mission? To destroy one's organization before the other destroys yours. Some may think it's simple, and each group puts the main goal as 'Protecting Vegas'.

But there's more to the story than a simple fight and protect scenario. It goes into a deep history between the leaders of each team, and the original goal that both teams shared. Differences create enemies, and now you must decide on where your loyalties lie. And is what you're fighting for truely noble?

Zuca: ... not in the least what I'm looking for, and I can tell it isn't up to par just from reading your paragraph-long plug. I'm sorry. Good luck with it!

LittleRikku: Just not up to par. I don't think I'd be happy there. It's a great idea, though, and if it were a little better-settled, with a few more interesting characters, I'd definitely consider it. You may also want to put up icons instead of the IF symbol. Best of luck.

ED: DARN IT. Ashbeannun, I don't know how I'll manage on your site without being able to curse... I can't imagine the character I play NOT using some foul language. *ponders* I'll really need to give this some thought.

GravesAndRoses - July 18, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
PG13 + R content more than welcome. I consider the writing above par and I hope the skin doesn't cause retina damage, I don't think it will. Character age is eighteen and over.

Are you ready to join the elite?

THEY ARE THE GOLDEN AND THE CHOSEN

An acceptance letter has arrived to Monroe College an academic achievement and the key to a thousand doors, but maybe, just maybe a mixed blessing worth thinking over...

Situated in Northern California, just slightly inland from a long row of pristine beach land, lies one of the country's most prestigious universities: Monroe University. Founded by descendants of President James Monroe, the university has everything from its own private stretch of beach to world wide reputation for academic excellence. Monroe University is as elite and competitive as one might imagine it to be and stands among the most prestigious Ivy League Institutions.

On the surface, Monroe looks perfect: All the history of the East Coast Ivy League with the endless summers of West Coast paradise. Prestigious buildings, decorated professors, and the white sanded shores of Northern California sounds too good to be true, right?

THATS BECAUSE IT IS.

Delve a little further into the exclusive, glamorous world of Monroe and a trail of mystery emerges, centered around the elusive Graves and Roses, the most elite and powerful secret society on this particular coast. Everyone who's anyone is a member, but then again they'd never tell you. Freshmen are just dying to get in... literally.

Last year, tragedy struck Monroe when alleged Graves and Roses member Aaron Teegarden was killed in a car accident. Although nothing was ever made official, rumors circulated the campus that there was more to his death than was ever made public. His little brother joining the Graves and Roses quelled rumors momentarily, but Aaron's devastated girlfriend, ex-campus sweetheart, doesn't seem to sleep anymore and his best friend, a journalism major, keeps digging and not too quietly.

Across campus, at the Sigma Pi Fraternity House, a freshman scholarship student named Anna Tate was found naked and unconscious after a raucous social mixer. Supposedly, she reported to the police that the fraternity president and three of the high ranking members had raped her. It would have been a matter of he said, she said if not for her blood work revealing an incriminating mixture of drugs. Strangely, a week later all charges were dropped. Did old money change hands?

The idea of class action needs redefining when one considers the rumors that a tenured professor has had indiscretions with more than one of his nubile Freshman students. No one ever seems to give the incoming Freshmen a word of warning. Tenure, after all, means untouchable.

Silence is golden in and out of the classroom. The Graves and Roses are so quiet members are hard to identify beyond the obviously wealthy suspects. The fraternities and sororities know how to draw ranks faster than a military formation. There's no such thing as free press either with the University newspaper having faculty on staff. Rumors, gossip, and, of course, overheard whispers are the most reliable forms of truth.

Believe the campus myths if you choose to or else take Monroe at face value, the playground of the privileged where bright young things party, study and above all, cause scandal.

Well, I'd toss my site into the ring, I feel like it has pretty decent standards and stands up on its own. However, I figure you've already seen my ad a zillion and seven times and if you wanted to join you probably already would have. But, just because. . .

I can indeed write at a college level. In fact I graduated college many years ago and one of my majors was print media. Most of my members are what I call above average writers, though I won't be nasty and refuse anyone outright. I might ask for revisions, but RPing is for fun and I prefer people to have fun over being perfect. We have no post length requirement because I think they're silly and I don't want to bother counting words either.

QUOTE
Type(s) of Creature(s): Humans, predominantly. I may consider werewolves, but it isn't my ideal.

Check. No vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc. Strictly humans. And some pets.

Preferred Rating: PG-13/R and up; I use salty language. When I'm playing modern, my characters tend to throw 'f***' around like there's no tomorrow.

Yup, no problem with the four-letter words. Two of mine toss f-bombs continually.

Got it. We're usually averaging upwards of 200 posts a day. I'm not sure how many of them are IC posts, but I'm sure it's a lot ;) Also, if a character is inactive for more than two weeks without a good reason, he/she is deleted. So yeah, we're kinda active.

QUOTE
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Modern, within the last 100 years, at least.

Annnnd, yup. We're set in 1996, I think that just about covers it :)

We started in Rent fandom, post canon, but in the past two years, we've developed into an RL game based in New York which happens to have the canons from that fandom running about. . . You don't need to know a thing about the musical or the movie, since the characters are just characters, nothing more. We're grown up, decent writers, and friendly as can be. Have a look. The banner in my sig's the link.

Alphabet City
We're in the year 1996 and the colorful residents of the East Village in Manhattan are facing the issues which challenge poor Bohemian artists in the mid-90s. Drug abuse, HIV, prostitution, starvation, death, life, and love. However, they find that they aren't alone, friends are all around, and there is always coffee to be drunk, issues to be discussed, and art to be created, good and otherwise. Come join our cast of canon and original characters, featuring a strong sense of community and creativity and find that you're not alone either.
Other notes:Based on the Broadway musical RENT, set post-canon, though slightly AU to keep Angel alive. We have evolved and changed over the past two years from a fandom RP to a RL RP with some fandom characters.  We are lucky to have a great group of OCs who are keeping the plot moving and changing quickly, and we always welcome new writers and OCs with open arms.
We also have a brand new board!  It's pretty and blue and still has that new board smell!!  Come see.  It's pwetty!!!

GravesandRoses: I go to an elite liberal arts college; I don't really need to RP one... it sounds interesting, but that sort of drama, all too evocative of high school, just isn't for me. I may check it out again later.

Angel-girl: I've thought about your site a few times, but I have reservations about it. First, I've never seen Rent. Secondly, it's a little aggressively... New York for me. As above, that's too close to home--I'm FROM NY, and I hate it! A silly reason, I know. A better reason is that I'm not so into the alternative 'we've all got AIDS, whee!' scene. I'm more of a 'let's take care of our lives and get real jobs' person. I may well consider joining, but again, I need to think on it for a bit.

Feck just isn't enough sometimes. :p

Mana4X2 - July 18, 2008 10:38 AM (GMT)
Okay SmathNa,

I think the only thing that we can't offer you at Mana4X2 is the swearing... again, we don't allow it. Crap, damn, things like that, they are fine, but anything more... still I feel we meet all your other requirements, even the 'wanting to play a human' one, since, yes, in the X-Men world, there are humans too.

So, here is our ad, and the pros of joining Mana4X2... we have been around for over four years, hence, the community is close and welcoming of all newcomers. Newbies are not, and nor will they ever be, ignored just because they are new. We have members among the best writers in the world (in my humble opinion), and we are moving into a new plot very soon that is going to be like nothing the site has ever done before.

So... there you go. I do look forward to what you have to say, because, like any Admin, it's alway great to get feedback, even if it is negative ^_^.

A lot has happened over the course of time, strength and growth clearly seen, as a new school year will inevitably bring more of the usual danger a resident of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters often faces. It seriously doesn’t help that Magneto‘s decision to open a new school of his own has seen many new mutants drawn to the Master of Magnetism's ideals. The Brotherhood Superiorum continues to grow strong, however, it's about to become no longer a school. Erik Magnus Lensherr cannot continue to inculcate his anti human ideals into the next generation if he has to constantly be looking after the duties being Principle entails!

No, it's time to simplify things so he can once again focus solely on the dream that mutants WILL one day reign supreme!

Who really wants to take sides though? Who really cares about either of their ideals? If that sounds like you, then DME is where you belong. Mana4X2's own concept created faction, Damien-Myne Enterprises, stretches over several cities, with its main office in New York City. Your boss is Colin Damien Myne, AKA Boilmet, founder and owner of this Freelance faction;; he offers you great accommodation, excellent pay, and the freedom to do whatever you want…

Cross him, though, and your life won’t be worth living! Boilmet will do whatever it takes to make sure nothing gets in the way of furthering his business… NOTHING, not even you.

And then there is talk that the FoH is working on something to eradicate mutant kind. Will they succeed?

Who knows, because only time will tell…

I'll just reply to a bit of this 'cause I feel the need ;) Seeing Rent has nothing to do with anything. The canons are simply about and that's all. They make up nine people out of a hundred and some. New Yorkish-ness. . .that's something I can't do too terribly much about. That's the setting ;) And, while some of the characters are feckless artists, many of them do have jobs and so on. Hell, Angel is one of my chars and she's ended inheriting a tattoo shop, so now she works pretty hard every day keeping it running. I also have an anti-Bohemian character who is completely appalled by the "laziness" of her neighbors. She's a type-A driven law student who won't even hear the word "fun." Another of my chars is a modelling agent who will only slow down for her 3 year old. So yeah, that's not a necessity. Think on it and lemme know if you have any more questions. :)

Unfortunately, upon further examination... the writing quality thing again.

Still considering.

Mana4X: Neon bars on the skin, and gray text on black? I could barely read a word before my eyes started to bleed. It may well be a nice site, and I don't care if a site is UGLY. If it's unreadable, on the other hand, you've lost me.

Anyone else?

I'm almost scared to suggest this, as we're still not officially open, and won't be for two more weeks due to half the admin team going away on vacation, but it won't hurt to give it a try...

Genre: We're a modern day mafia RPG. The main plot is set around four very different city sections, and the conflicts that arise from this. As a player you have a lot of freedom to do your own thing here, as it's possible to be involved with the mafia, a gang, or just have your character live a normal hum-drum life. We do have a high school (two actually o.0), but the kids are not the main focus of the game, and you won't have trouble finding adult characters to interact with, seeing as most of our current characters (we have quite a few, considering we're not even open yet) are 20+, and most of our premades/canons are older as well.

Difficulty: Hmm, I honestly don't know what to say about this. Personally, I think the players we currently have are good RP'ers. Most of us are in university, and I suppose we write on a level according to that, but whether we meet your standards, I guess is up to you to decide.

Type(s) of Creature(s): Humans only.
Preferred Rating: PG-13/R and up; We've never really discussed what rating our game is, but I suppose it can be grouped somewhere between PG-13 and R. We allow pretty much anything, as long as it's not overly graphic and you warn players who don't want to read that sort of thing in the topic title. The admins all have filthy minds and foul mouths though, so yeah... we allow swearing. ;)

Preferred Number of Members/Activity: Well. This is the requirement that scares me. We're not open yet, due to half the admins going away on summer vacation. We're aiming to open in two weeks time, but for now, we have a group of players we know from previous RPGs, who are all committed to this new game, and as an admin, I'm pretty committed to making this game work, so... we're aiming for a high level of activity, but I can't promise anything.

Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Present day.

SmathNa - July 18, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)
Catastrophe: Hm. Some of the writing is pretty darn good--one of the sample RPs impressed me. The fact that you've got fashion models, though... it isn't just you, it's AshBeanNun's site, too. What the Hell is up with fashion models? WHY? In addition, the trendiness of the whole site--plot pages, emphasis on playbys, gray text on a gray background (really? Are you serious here?)... all these are major turnoffs.

I like that you can use language, I come from a family that's pretty well-acquainted with the Sicilian mob... so I *would* like to play a character there. Eventually. If it starts up, takes off, and ends up involving plotlines that aren't OMG he's dating that model OMG. Then? Yeah, perchance.

It's a good site, and obviously I've given it consideration, and will continue to keep tabs, but you've fallen prey to so much trendiness that I'm loath to consider it for very long should you fall into much more...

Thanks for the submission, though! Best of luck with it.

Atricea - July 18, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
Well I think you know my board, but still, check us out - and I even believe you've met one of my characters in a "one-liner rp" we had  vampires, although you can play a human, and with the characters you say you're good at playing, sounds cool. You say you believe that "the world's a competition", well it definetly is on DD... conflict, with the vampires trying to take over everything, not all countries are allies with them (naturally) and right now there's also an inner conflict within the Dragulian royal family, which can definetly be taken advantage of by some sort of human if anyone dares... and we're active, MANY IC posts a day and with our current many active members, I doubt that you'll ever wait even a few days for someone to get back to you... the cbox works and is active too. Check out the "current plots" link if you want to know some of the major plots going on right now :)

"Blood has always been the coin of our realm."
~Dracula 2000

The Lord of Darkness, Dracula, rose from the dead once more in the year 2007 – and he rose with just one thing in mind. Revenge over the God who denied him death so long ago. Now, in 2008, the Dragulian Empire is for the first time truly expanding, and even more after both all of Africa and Australia submitted to the Vampire rule... and with the help of blood from a witch born with Dracula’s blood – Charlotte Heller, granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing – the Vampires are rising like never before, even able to have children, and walk in daylight. Dark Desires is inspired by the movie Dracula 2000 (but not the sequels), but also referring to many other myths about the greatest living vampire of all times. It is a good idea to have seen the movie, but not a requirement.

Join us in the new dark times, that are certainly increasing – be a part of the new world which our Lord of Darkness, and King of the Dragulian Empire, is trying to create. The threat that waited to be released, is out, and who knows if the Human kind is doomed or not? Who shall you be in this new world, if not a simple Human or one of the Vampires? Perhaps you’d be a Token, supporting the Vampires in their quest for perfection? Or maybe the opposite, a Slayer, trying to restore order in the lately chaotic world? Dark Desires contains a wide variety in characters, and is in general a very friendly community, welcoming even the more odd character types. There is much to see and explore, especially with the world coming close to a change it has not seen for centuries. If you long to know, then the only remaining question is not if, but when you will give in to your Dark Desires?

Atricea:

Thanks, but no thanks. Viz.:
1. Neon skin. On black. Ack!
2. Just not up to par, really, writing-wise.

It's a nice site, but not for me. Thanks, though. :)

Jagwaar - July 19, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
We might not be what you’re looking for, but nothing ventured nothing gained, and you did say you were willing to consider X-Men. Sometimes we have 10+ posts a day, sometimes not. We’re flexible enough to allow RL interference. We have an official post turn around time of 72 hours. It’s been running steadily for four years now, though getting into the game action is not as hard as that might make it seem. We also set it up for my bad eyes in mind. No neon on black here. Most people tell me it’s too simple. Eh, whaddya?

Most of our writers are in the 27 – 35 age group with a handful older and younger. Our players are generally good (and fun) writers, and you won’t see any one line posts, though you might find long ones from time to time. We’re also a close community and we support each other through thick and thin.

The game tackles mature themes, we do include crime scenarios (the current Big Plot is mystery/crime based), is gritty and realistic with no over the top mutants, and an AU premise. It is however, not your father's X-Men and not everyone likes it. And, no one will gasp at salty language.

I won’t post our ad here; just let you follow the link and see if anything there appeals to you. Good luck with your search.

(Oh, and one note – we just got switched over to Yuku from EZBoard and in the process lost ALL of the punctuation from old posts *grumbles loudly*. We’re in the process of fixing it, but please know it’s a huge job and it’s not our players’ fault that the punctuation is gone.)

Badfaith - July 19, 2008 11:56 AM (GMT)
Hm, you did say "human" but Angels meets all your other requirements so I'll chance it.

Angels is an futuristic anthromorphic RPG, (if you don't know what that is, think of Disney's Robin Hood...though in this case a lot less cuddly), it's got a post-apocalyptic feel to it, though it's only nearing the final deciding turn, it's name and the entire massive plot line was inspired by a song by a band called Within Temptation (I suggest looking 'em up, their amazing)

We're at at advanced literacy level, though our post lengths fluctuate (I can range from nine paragraphs to one small one depending on the day ;.;' ) , I wouldn't let a Mary Sue on my board if she offered me a hundred dollars though.

The "Angels" are actually an elite crime fighting organization, the only one the city, St. Lucent, has, their offical name is the Hour Glass Guild and they were formed a hundred years ago when the city's founder went missing with invaluable secrets and chaos insued.

At first order began to recover but things are going to hell fast, the only way they'll be able to win their right to survive is if they find the true name of the island.

This could all be explained better by reading our story-line, I'l leave that up to you.

I know the "anthro" thing is different, but I think you should give it a shot.

SmathNa - July 19, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
Jagwaar: Unfortunately, your board doesn't seem active enough. It also doesn't really seem to have enough high-quality members, and the layout is a little bit clunky (not that that's a deal-breaker for me, but for what it's worth...).

Badfaith: Yeah, anthros are not my thing.

No anthros, either.

Jagwaar - July 19, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
Eh, I did warn you about activity, and the simplicity of the board. We made it for us, not for anyone else, like everyone does. And frankly, I'll defend the quality of my members any day.

Good luck with your search.

SmathNa - July 19, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
I didn't mean to offend--bear in mind it's a snap judgment.

Jagwaar - July 19, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
Even with a snap judgement you can be polite. You've been pretty scathing throughout this thread. Maybe you should bear in mind how your words affect others. I don't care for your board either, but I would never be callous when saying so.

And now I'm done. I have better things to do.

December, Esq - July 19, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
Amen.

I've seen you do nothing but tear apart boards. People are offering you their boards in order to invite you to join them. Would you go to a party you've been invited to, stick your head in the door, and then announce for everyone to hear, "This party sucks. I don't like your fruitpunch."?

Have some courtesy, please. I wasn't going to mention it when you insulted my board because frankly I don't care, but after seeing you rip apart board after board, I got a bit annoyed. It's one thing to say, "No, I don't think this board works for me / for my style." It's another thing to say, "Your writing really isn't up to standards and your skin makes my eyes bleed."

Be nice. Show the respect your fellow RPers deserve.

PS to the other members: If someone insults your board, you don't have to thank them for the criticism. It's not constructive when it's phrased like that and it's only one person's perspective. I hope you're not going to change the color of the skins just because someone has the nerve to tell you that it "makes their eyes bleed."

Mana, I think your skin looks fine; it fits the theme.

Catastrophe86 - July 19, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
I have to agree with Jagwaar and December. I guess I received one of the less scathing remarks, but I still think you could have been more polite, not just to me, but to everyone who posted. A simple 'thanks, but no thanks' would suffice, because no one was asking you for criticism, and quite frankly, none of it was very constructive.

WildeThing - July 19, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
I dunno if I should reply, considering I'm not here to offer my site, but, really, the above 3 posters are all right. Have some courtesy. You can keep your reasons to yourself, no one is asking you to say why you don't want to join.

I was actually stunned when I saw, and not once, that you called certain sites bad quality. I'm sure you're a very nice person, and I hope you find a site, but really, show some class.

SmathNa - July 19, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
Well, I did say I'd give feedback, but in future, I'll refrain. I was simply trying to be honest, and those are my reasons.

*shrugs*

I thought I'd portrayed that in my first post... I don't like it when people don't read what I've written.

I've found a board I like, so consider this thread closed.

Thanks for the submissions. If you'd like to PM me with another suggestion, feel free.

iliketotalk15 - July 20, 2008 02:34 AM (GMT)

2013.
What an unlucky number.

"My name? Oh... it's not really safe to say now, is it? Sorry. But it's best to stay anonymous
when you're talking about things like this; particularly as my house was broken into last week.
I'm not feeling sorry for myself, not by far; it happened to my friend too. The crime rate started
to shoot up here in London in about 2010 and it just kept going. The authorities can't really
handle it. Why don't we move? Because it's the same everywhere else; London just happens to
be where I stay. So many people are mugged near me now and there was even a murder only
five minutes from where I stay. It's unsafe and I can't even let my kids out of the house. I mean,
there was once a time where I could stroll down the street without clutching my kids' hands and
holding my handbag tight to my chest in case someone should try and grab it."
Welcome to London.
Your own personal hell.
Everyone's own personal hell.

Imagine crime shooting up to a ridiculous level. Imagine being
afraid to walk down the street. Imagine the breaking of the law
around you every day. Imagine the authorities losing control.
Imagine the punk movement's utter dream and your worst nightmare.
You my friend, are imagining 2013.
Watch out or you may end up with
BULLETS IN THE BACK.

Bullets In The Back is a hopefully successful attempt at a crime RPG
where crime actually does happen and the events actually are realistic
for the future but pretty horrific. The roleplay is advanced and we are
an originals only roleplay, believing in true freedom with characters.
We are R-rated so be sure you can handle violence. Hope to see you there!

Notes: This is not my site, but I thought it sounded fairly perfect for want you want. Violence? Check. We all right rather well, with enough to reply back to and then some. The characters are fantastically strange (a character named Pluto Grass? WTF? A Mafia Boss? Crazy, psycho killers?) and varied. We're based on crime so there is definitely that sort of moral dilemmas that I think you are looking for. We're modern, active and there are a tone of people to play and plot with.
EDIT: For some reason I missed the last two pages, so I apologize for the late entry.

SmathNa - July 20, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
Not to worry... I AM still looking for boards, and this one seems interesting. A few 'trendy' aspects put me off initially (plot pages, lists of likes/dislikes in the apps), you know--no offense taken, I hope, but that's just not my taste, usually. Still, your description sounds quite nice, so I'll come back to browse when I'm not so tired. Thanks.

Sorry if I've hurt anyone's feelings. If it's any help, I'd critique my own site if it were offered to me, too--I'm pickier as a member than as an owner. My site, for instance, isn't well-organized enough, and we need a space where members can record their plots.

Apologies. If you don't want me to comment on your site, just tell me, and I'll keep mum about what I think.
