Title: Male Of Female?

I know that at fanfiction and rpg sites I've been to, there has generally been a huge gender imbalance in favor of the females. I'm curious if that is the same here in a more diverse community. So, are you male or female?

Its to be expected - most girls are more willing to write than boys are. Also... lol, girls are more willing to vote in polls like this lol

I'm a guy btw

I don't know about girls being more willing to vote in polls . . . but we've had similar polls on RPG-D, and most people are female.

However, before I came to RPG-D, all of the sites I was on had 90-95% males.

I'm guilty of having called new members 'he/she/it' at times, because some people have usernames that aren't gender specific, and that confuses me. But I usually assume that everyone's female, until someone says otherwise. That's because I've always been used to playing with more females than males: on every game I've been on, the males have been hugely outnumbered. In the more recent years, I've seen a few guys playing as well, but they're still outnumbered.

Guess I'm in the minority.

Yeah, I sort of expected it to end up like this...of course there are also those members whose names are misleading gender-wise. At HPFF people assume I'm a girl because I go by "Gin Swift" and they think that the Gin is short for Ginny, but obviously I'm a guy. One of my favorite authors there is named TomFoolery, so I was surprised to find out that he is actually a she.

It's fun to see though - I transitioned from computer gaming communities where the proportion is reversed and guys are more dominant, so it took me a long time to stop defaulting to male...I still do it some times. *whistles innocently*

Had a funny experience on a MUSH once where there were four female players playing male characters and a fifth player who was male, also playing a male character. The guy assumed that we were all male. We thought it was funny, so we didn't disabuse him of the idea.

Well, some time went by, and eventually he discovered that one of us was a girl. His surprise was almost comcal to behold. Then he found out about another, and another, until it was down to just me. At that point, he was feeling pretty outnumbered and paging me things like, "At least you're still a guy, mate." I didn't have the heart to tell him. As far as I know, he still thinks Alex is short for Alexander.

I'm definitely a female.
