We are definitely active and are more mature, we have a staff age between 21 and 27 and have members in their 40's and mature teenagers.

Tolkien's middle earth was an inspiration for the world and its an awesome medieval fantasy RPG. Highly recommended and extremely friendly. :D

Try TNR: http://www.thenetherrealm.com/forum/

We also have a choice of skins, NR Classic is advised for ease of navigation and the wiki has recently been revamped and updated. the website is in the process of being revamped also.

SmathNa - July 12, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
We are not LOTR. We don't have elves or other races, or, unfortunately, magic (I like it that way, myself; we do have hallucinogenic drugs and explosives, though!). We do have several different cultures, and we are very mature, whether you mean that euphemistically (wink wink, nudge nudge--yes, we have sex threads, but we aren't focused on romance) or literally (our players are all around 20 years old--somehow it's worked out that way--and we have no silly OOC drama, just a friendly, warm community).

We're set in the medieval era, with a Bronze Age culture on the side.

What do we have, if little romance? We have war, a serf rebellion, drug dealing, and more. Lots of adventure! Lots of politics, if you're thusly inclined.

We are very active; just check out a few recent posts. We usually get 20-80 posts a day, and there's almost always someone in the cbox.

We're PG-13, R with labeling.

What we want from you: an imaginative, well-rounded character who fits into our world (all necessary info on that is on the site).

Good luck with your search, and here's our ad. Don't hesitate to contact me via PM or IM with any questions at all!

Knights and Barbarians, Shamans and Soldiers, Warriors and Priests, Ladies and Whores...

Not enough? We've got more--many of them dependent on your imagination. If you're creative, a good writer, and willing to try something new--this is the site for you.

So just sit back, buckle in, and Prepare for War...

The Baskar call the pale-faced strangers interlopers. They call themselves Thiasans. And they're out to crush the so-called barbarian opposition once and for all in what promises to be a long and bloody war. Barbarians? Just because their warlords marry their own sisters and they worship the sun as a God? The Baskar hardly think so. No, it's the Thiasans who must be conquered, with their castles and manor-houses, their arrogant King and brutal soldiers... their cannons and iron swords...

Come to think of it, the Baskar wouldn't mind getting ahold of some of those superior weapons... illegal arms traders, you say? It doesn't hurt that some of the Baskar are willing to trade a plant called datura--a potent hallucinogen--in return.

Then there's the plot to kidnap and sacrifice the Thiasan King to appease the Baskari Sungod...

...a prospective Queen so ugly she's thrown the country into an uproar...

...and no heir to be seen, apart from the weak and diffident Prince Fergus, the King's younger brother.

Let's face it, we're in trouble.

Welcome to Thiasa.

And for those who've read this much of the ad, some Site Trivia:

-We've won RPG-D's Forum of the Week award--a fairly big deal, apparently.
-We have an amazing new feature, auxiliary characters.
-We had 30 members within a week of opening, and we're still growing (we now have over 100).
-We encourage original characters, as long as they fit into our world.
-We also have so-called 'canon' characters, mostly ones connected to characters we're already playing, and generally very broadly described--often, we won't even assign them a specific age.
-We never require that you use a certain play-by.
-'Thiasa' comes from a Greek word. Ten points if you get the reference.
-Thiasan culture is based on Medieval Italy and France, and Baskari culture is based on the Sioux and the Aztec. Animal spirits and human sacrifice--where can you go wrong?
-A bored college student made up most of the site information. It took longer to compile the information on the Baskar than it took her to write a term paper on the philosophy of consciousness.
-Our cbox is unfiltered. That's right, you can curse in it.
-Come on, you know you want to join now.

Elenlond - July 12, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, Elenlond is a medieval fantasy Rp. We're PG-13 and I believe that the members and the threads, for the most part, are mature. We're a fun-loving group who are very welcoming and helpful. If you're interested, please check us out. =D

Elenlond...

A land of mystery, beauty, and power.

In recent times there has been some upheaval as those of the free lands - known as both the Scattered and the Middle Isles - begin to fear the power that the deities exercise over the two main continents, Esiria and Soare. Although no god has endeavoured to conquer the free isles, the people still fear. And there is talk that some have formed groups in Esiria and Soare in support of removing the deities, those who invaded their homeland.

The deities did not choose Elenlond, although they certainly named it. After their original homeland, Mianor, imploded on itself and the world began to devour its own entity, the gods gathered as many of their surviving citizens as they could, pushing them through the largest of the rifts that had begun to form in Mianor. There they travelled, weary from their travels, uncertain of their future.

This time was known as The Great Migration.

It lasted for many weeks - perhaps even months; few kept journals of their journey, and many perished along the way - but eventually, there was an end in sight. The people of the old land plunged into the new and it was named Elenlond. Once they were settled, the people could only breathe:

Our Celestial Haven.

Elenlond has been around for several years, although it recently underwent renovations. Although we sport 60+ members, we are looking for active, dedicated people who will join and help activity to blossom. Our members are friendly, chatty, and we love new people. So, if you're interested, by all means join! We'd love to have you.

You thought your life was boring. Dull. Normal. You live in Washington DC and you thought you're life was just a conglomeration of politics, bills, and gas prices. You thought that nothing extraordinary ever happened, that magic was dead, and that fantasy was something found in comic books and role playing games.

Well, you'd be wrong.

Welcome to the Harbor, a portal to another world. Another world, where magic reigns, where magical creatures roam free, and where a dark force is currently ruling. Euphrania, once ruled by two benevolent brothers, is now in ruins, a disagreement between the two sending their world into perpetual darkness. A man of non-royal blood now rules, creating dissent in the people and the very nature of Euphrania. His evil magic is too great to be reckoned with. The only hope for the people of Euphrania is to see a human of true royal blood on the throne once more, but where have they all gone? They've been scattered across Euphrania and the United States. These men and women of royal Euphranian blood are just like you and me, and most will live their life without ever knowing their true place. However, if found by the evil forces of Euphrania, these men and women will no doubt be disposed of... their only hope is to be found first by the good-natured people of Euphrania.

Of course, though, this is not even the beginning. This is the United States, so of course the government has to be involved.

The President has always known of Euphrania, and, since the creation of democracy within the Americas, each president has decided to keep the existence of the other world a secret. But these are different times. These are times of terrorists and murderers and thievery and rape. The current president has decided to create a faction, housed within the CIA, known as the Agency for the Betterment of US / Euphrania Relations, also called-- in a move of foreshadowing, perhaps?-- ABUSER. ABUSER is separated into several divisions, specializing in both research and reconnaissance. ABUSER's agents travel regularly to Euphrania.

But ABUSER is not, as its namesake would suggest, good.

The current President does not like Euphrania. Its existence threatens the very sanity of the world. And so, he has charged ABUSER with luring the people of Euphrania into a false relationship based on camaraderie and trade. When this is achieved, ABUSER will annihilate all of Euphrania, leaving nothing. No traces of the people, places, and magic that once existed. The good people of Euphrania already dislike these newcomers, considering ABUSER has decided to side with the Dark Lord in power for the time being. The Dark Lord has charged ABUSER with several jobs.

One: Destroy all who threaten his will.

Two: Destroy all of supposed royal blood.

Three: Using their technology, attempt to create a replica of a royal human in order to fully capture the throne or Euphrania.

ABUSER is, at the time, fully complying.

Where do you stand? Who are you? 'Cause, man, is this fantasy shit as real as ever, You better pick a side, before a side picks you.

No, RoM isn't LotR, but it's definately high fantasy. You are free to import any of the races from LotR, but the setting's just not Middle Earth.

See what you think!

Fantasy is Reality . . .

Enter into a world divided.

With the fall of the Guilds, the Realm of Mystery descended into chaos, out of which rose two factions.

Noresh, place of life, preaches truth, justice, and honor.
Noctis, land of dark, tempts with the night’s honeyed poison.

Repelling and attracting, their dance is a delicate balance upon which the fate of the world rests. After all, there could not be night without day, or day without night . . .
. . . could there?

Yet now an even greater threat looms, and the two are caught in a shifty alliance that could fall apart with a single wrong move. Wanderers, unbound by pledges to either side, pursue their own agendas or seek to create their own power base. Others choose to unite with one of the two factions and test their worth from within. The promise to all beings has always been freewill, and the choice can be made only by you.

The Realm of Mystery is a freeform rpg where characters are the ones who create—or destroy—their world. Join Noctis, join Noresh, or set out on your own. Rise through the ranks or become the subtle shadow behind the throne. Throw havoc or negotiate peace—make friends or enemies—control magic or become a master of fighting—be a leader or a follower—blur the lines of reality to suit your needs. Create your character . . . . Create your destiny . . . . Create your world.

As an advanced roleplaying site, a "sample post" application is required to join. Once accepted, you will find active, supportive members who are helpful out of character and skilled roleplayers in character. Very few other sites are as long-running and creative as the Realm of Mystery, and nowhere else have individual members had the power to change and alter their world as they have on RoM. Join us, and learn the true meaning of magic.

Welcome to the Steampunk world of Legend Maker.

The former King was lately found to have died of natural causes at the age of 35. Predicted cause of death was heart failure. Unknown to most, the result of his kingship's death was from a large quantity of Foxglove in his soup, which in small doses is classed as a drug used to aid those with weak hearts, yet large doses can prove fatal.

Following the death of the King, his child Alexander the III has taken up the role of monarch at the young age of 7 years old. Due to his age and inexperience, the Church has offered their services in helping run the Kingdom temporally until his 16th birthday when he can take his rightful position in the political world, seeing as his knowledge of the political world and faith will be up to acceptable standards.

Unknown to the public, the Church has lead the continent for the past 100 years by pulling such stunts similar to this one:

Monarchs have been used as political puppets, to be used when useful and discarded when posing a threat, much like the former king Alfred the IV. His Rule was cut shot due to a few outcries on his half against the Churches current place in the political world, (unaware, every decision he ever took as King was moulded by the Churches very hands). This lead to a momentary laps in the peoples respect for the Church. The Puppets strings were quickly cut away, opening a position for a new monarch, a new face for the church to hide there scheming behind.

Twenty five years ago Amana was becoming a truly dark place. Aelin Telimar was only a small push away from plummeting the nation into a war that would tear her apart. Only two very special beings, from Aelin's own future, could stop him. And it was for that reason that Jackline and Connor Telimar defied magical law and traveled through time to when they were only infants.

Once they had the people of Amana on their side, things were easy, and fairly quick to end. The twins, yes Jackline and Connor were in truth the children of Aelin, fought their father, with a little help, and managed to stop him. They believed they had killed him. And they might have if not for their little sister,Jocelyn Elanis, who was totally devoted to the man she considered her father.

Jocelyn used every bit of strength in her to defend her father, mostly without her siblings knowledge, and did succeed in saving his life. She hid him deep in the heart of Barena, for though he was alive, at the time he was very weak from the battle. But over the years since, he is regaining his old strength.

The time is coming closer. Will the darkness that the twins worked so hard to prevent return? Or will they be able to stop their father once and for all this time? Will Amana return to darker times?

The Abydos Quest is an advanced free-form role playing board for writers interested in cooperative fantasy storywriting. There is a short application (post a writing sample for review - something from another board is perfect). No word minimums, shops, canons, or restrictions - write the stories you want and make the characters you want. The provided fantasy 'world' is extremely large, so there's lots of space for you to be creative!
  • Relatively new board, and small community
  • Only advanced writers accepted. Core members average 700-1500 words/post or more, with good depth, detail, spelling, and grammar (less is fine, this is just an idea of what we're like).
  • All stories are original - there are no set plots or cannons. A world with geography has been established for your use, you can create what you will within that.
  • The setting is fantasy - medieval with magic, dragons, knights, etc. Other races/species ok as long as they incorporate into the setting.
  • Most content is PG/PG-13, but there are no word filters.
  • Friendly, active staff who know how to run an RP board.
  • Click here to check us out!

We're a medieval fantasy, though not LotR. We have a rating of PG15 though we push R sometimes - and as far as members go, we're a pretty mature bunch, most of us are kind old foggies, with a tendency to be silly.

We've only recently re-opened, but we're doing ok with activity, even though most of it is getting applications up. We will not be closing any time soon however, too stubborn for that. So you can always come back later if the activity isn't enough for you, but you like us.

This is not Earth. There is no savior here, and no one will bleed for your sins.
But they will bleed because of them.

This is A Rage Against Godhood.

Welcome to the Isles of Shorelanei, a realm, a world, created by the torturer of the damned. Upon these shores many have come to rest; the lost seraph of heaven, the first murderer of man, and wandering demons of the abyss. Their children now populate the Isles.

The Demon-Blooded, who were first born.
The Children of Caine, who came second.
The Celestial-Blooded, who were last to be created.
And the Half-Blooded, whose weak lines are a mockery to the pure of blood.

Yet these descendants are not as great as their forefathers. Petty jealousies and hate have harden their hearts against one another. And when the creator of the Isles is exiled by an ambitious schemer, their world became an ocean of strife and uncertainty. Every day brings new hardships and changes, every event affecting even the most distant of people.

Here, it is all a matter of perception. There is no way of telling which path is right and true. With only your heart, and perhaps your faith, to act as your compass, there is no knowing where you might be led. You can only hope that it is not astray and to the brink of total annihilation. Unless, of course, that’s where you want to go.

It is up to the people as a whole, and not a prophesized hero, to save their world from a bitter end, or destroy a new beginning. Can blood be put aside and these four lines join forces to make a stand against all odds in a world where gods wage war?

How will you shape the future? After all, all beings were created with free will.

Things used to be so peaceful in the small town of Calista Falls. The residents reveled in the peace and quiet, enjoying their lives as best as they could as the days wore on. Even those who weren't the wealthiest of fools seemed to have nearly-perfect human lives there.

But for some, that isn't farther from the truth. There are the creatures only seen in ghost stories and folk tales: vampires and werewolves, creatures Hollywood portray as fearsome beasts. In some cases this is a true portrayal; however, the residents of Calista Falls and the neighboring Helios Beach are of the more peaceful breed, residing within the human populations of both locations. Only they know of their existance, the werewolf tribe of the Heliosente and the Von Teschen vampire clan. And though vampires and werewolves are natural enemies, the two clans live in peace with one another under a treaty centuries old.

However, recently the peace treaty between the two has become in danger of being violated. One of the strongest vampires, who happens to be a Von Teschen, has gone rogue, and while the clan's hunger is only quenched on trips to feed on the blood of animals, this rogue has turned his taste buds on the more.. human kind. This violates the number one rule set forth by that peace treaty, which states that not a single human shall fall by the hand of a Von Teschen.

With this happening and the lives of countless humans as well as the peace treaty between the Von Teschens and Heliosentes in jeopardy, the safety of this small town's inhabitants has grown to be in more trouble than the they could ever imagine. The rogue is on the loose, and untraceable as his primal instincts kick in to help him slip away from view. If he succeeds in feeding on a helpless human, an all out war is possible between the
wolves and cold ones.

It all began in 1692. There was so much death and destruction that families were torn apart, and neighbors became suspicious of each other. Many began to see the ruin humans could cause and fled the countries and cities of their youth in search of haven elsewhere. Some found their way to St. Anthony’s Island and the town of Little Salem.

Those who were considered mythical beings joined together for protection and survival and so began the Treaty of Three, a treaty designed to protect the humans as well as the vampires, the werewolves and the witches.

The rules were simple enough: no harm was to come to any human; no human should ever learn the existence of these groups; and no member of the treaty was to purposely hurt another member of the treaty. Any violation of these rules meant death for all those involved.

Well, strange humans with the hell-bent intention of making myths extinct have begun arriving on the island. A vampire belonging to the more peaceful of the bloodsuckers’ families has been murdered, and found alongside an innocent human. And the Treaty has been broken by the ‘child’ of one of its original creators.

A war has been brewing beneath the guise of peaceful efforts, and things are about to explode. You’re not going to want to miss the next boat to

A Marauder Roleplay
Based on Harry Potter series by JK Rowling

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a school of magic for those between the ages of eleven and eighteen. Thousands of students call this castle their second home, and with the extensive grounds, it is not hard to guess why. Some are returning, some are beholding it’s wonder for the first time, but all are still stunned by its high walls and sky skimming towers. However in all their souls they know one other thing that makes them so eager to reach the castle. It is now the safest place on earth. Lord Voldemort’s reign of terror has struck fear into the hearts of many, ripped families apart and is still spreading at an alarming rate. Almost every night the dreaded Dark Mark can be found hovering over a new dwelling and the violence is getting worse.

user posted image user posted image user posted image user posted image

Everyday the newspapers are filled with more disappearances, more murders and more tales of horror and pain. Everyone clings to their loved ones in hopes of keeping them safe, some have even stopped their children returning to Hogwarts for fear they won’t be safe there either. Yet inside those high walls the teaching continues. The Staff are trying to make a special effort to run as normal but with more students receiving news of their parent’s deaths or kidnaps it is an up hill struggle. To everyone it seems every morning another black envelope is dropped into a lap. However there is one group of people not changed by the outside world, and intent on keeping things the same. The Marauders. Everyday it seems another stink bomb or minor explosion erupts in the corridors and the mood began to lighten in response. The halls of Hogwarts were once more filled with laughter and the happy chatter of teenage gossip as tension eased after a few weeks. The letters even seemed to stop for a few days at a time. The students in Hogwarts convinced themselves they were safe and focused more on their studies whilst their loved ones fought for their lives outside, after all it was hard to think of a war when an indoor fireworks display had just erupted in front of your eyes.

But are they truly as safe as they think? It appeared not so when a scream rang through the air one night, cutting off after a few seconds. Staff and students alike sprung from their beds and raced towards the sound, only to be greeted with a sight that make most want to turn away and pretend it was a bad dream. A body in Hogwarts. It was a small girl, a first year they discovered later, a muggleborn that had been struck down with an Advada Kedavra curse. Terror once more spread and everyone was advised to travel in packs, to not be alone, for the Hogwarts body had a murderer in it’s midst. Despite an investigation the crime was never solved and this has made it all the worse. Now everyone of non-pureblood is terrified of being the next victim. No one is safe inside or out of those walls. Everyone is clinging to threads of hope that are disintegrating with everyday and even the light mood of the Marauder's can't completely ease the tension now. Someone will be next, the question is who?
