Title: Fictional Town Name

aimeejoy - July 4, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
i am currently building a quick-apps, cannon characters board based in a small town in Colorado, but i am stumped for a town name. i want the town to be completely fictional, but i dont want anything "cutesy"- something that sounds real, but isn't. any suggestions?

also, i'm in need of an actual board name. nothing too dark, but something i can build from. maybe something about secrets? doesn't matter... any suggestions are helpful and appreciated!!

also, i'm not sure if i'm allowed to mention this here (if i'm not i'll take it out), but i'm looking for one or two staff members to help me out.

South Park.

Maybe this can help. I'm not too good at names myself.

The Random Subdivision Name Generator could help... maybe, lol. They seem like sort of Colorado-ish names.

Mountain Heights?

If you want to name it after someone, you can look up a list of surname meanings. I did this for my rpg once. It was based in the mountains, and I called the town "Stanhope," which was a last name meaning "the side of the hill" or something like that, which was perfect because I wanted the town to be built in/on the side of a mountain.

I know nothing about the area, but the best way to name a town is to think of a landmark or trade and name it after that. Smithtown, Bakerville, Riverside, etc.

Springfield is the most common town name in the US. It's why they used it for the Simpson's. You say Springfield, and it can be in any state. Most states have more than one, actually.
