Title: Active Rper Looking For A Bit Of Fantasy.

Caleigh - July 4, 2008 06:34 PM (GMT)
Genre:Anything, but I would prefer something with a fantasy element to it.
Difficulty:Intermediate-Advanced
Type(s) of Creature(s): Humans, elves, faeries, and other humanoid creatures are all good. Would prefer a site that doesn't have gods as playable characters.
Preferred Rating: Anything below R.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: I would like an active site, and I don't care if you're the only member so far, but I wouldn't like a more than 150 members.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in:Any time and setting is good, so long as it's interesting. Please, no fan-based RPG's, originals only.

Other Notes: I love RPing. I first started when I was fourteen. I already belong to one other site, but I would like another site to RP on as well so I have something to do while I'm waiting for a reply in the threads I'm in. I also would prefer a non-canon character site.

Kyle3i - July 4, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
We still have that new-site smell.. :)
As of right now, there are 5 members, and 10 characters.
We're all about magical realism, the fantastic (and perhaps horrific) finding it's way into the real world.
All members are human characters, but there will be constant interaction with these semi-supernatural 'Others'. In addition, a large aspect of the game is about your character's dreams, and the concept of shared or convergent dreaming - in which dreams of different individuals become linked, and you venture through the combined fantasy world together. (similar to movies such as The Cell or Paprika)

I hope you'll check us out. :)

Why are we never quite satisfied with the way things are?

We yearn for other worlds. And maybe those other worlds yearn for us, too.

2010: A city is slowly and inconspicuously overrun by creatures of an unknown origin,
as our plane of existence begins to merge with their own. The veil between our worlds
is stretched dangerously thin - We can see their numberless forms stirring
behind the curtain... vague shadows that hover on our periphery,
flit through our reflections, burn their way into our subconscious.

The disturbances cannot be easily dismissed: The sounds of their world bleed
through to our radios, cell phones, alarm clocks.. Glimpses of their realm
become more common, seen through lenses or caught on film.
They even find their way into our dreams: Children especially
complain of nightmares, too startlingly similar to be coincidence.

The numbers of encounters grow, from the handfuls to the hundreds,
and soon they're more than just rumors and stories;
They're everywhere, and everyone
has witnessed something
.

But who are they? What are they? And why are they here? Why now?

...are they really ghosts, as the media suggests?
Our ancestors returned to us, the dead drifting on alongside the living?
Or are they something else, something altogether new?
Is it the End of Days, or a new beginning?

The only Truth is our uncertainty.

Speculation abounds, but our fears and questions
are united in the one fact that we can be sure of:

They Exist.

I want to wake up
In a city that doesn’t sleep

Most people tend to tread around certain people in their neighbourhoods, not living too closely with each other. Other’s couldn’t give a damn and will live with whoever they have to for things to run smoothly.

In a city as big as New York, you can imagine how high the crime rates should be; but in one certain parts of the city, they seem to be lowering dramatically. Is that because of the amazing police work being carried out? Or are people just too afraid to report a crime nowadays?

Rumour has it that there are a few in this small part of Manhattan who live above the law; and have many members of the police along with other civil servants, prosecutors, judges, jurors on their payroll.

Not everyone takes too kindly to the cash handouts from these petty crooks, and choose to deliver the police work that they swore to in the very beginning. Once they swear to uphold to law by any means necessary, they tend to stick to it. However tempting the gifts from the lowlifes of this city may be, they keep out of it and do the work which is expected of them

These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York

The families of this place are what are keeping it together. Aside from the corruptness and crime in New York; these Detectives know that at the end of the day, they can go home and be with the people who actually appreciate what they are doing for their city.

Lives and Crimes
Of NYC

Elenlond - July 4, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Mmph, Elenlond somewhat fits your criteria (which is why I'm posting, lol). Hum, right now we have gods as playable characters but I'm working very hard to abolish that, as it seems so... pointless now. So, really, we won't as soon as the IC revamp is done, and that won't be affecting Rping whatsoever, so forums won't be disappearing (unless they're combined with other forums). However, we are a medieval fantasy Rp looking for active, dedicated members. We're intermediate (100 word minimum) and accept any type of character, although we seem to have only humanoid characters right now. I don't know if you'll be interested, but if you are, by all means take a look.

Elenlond...

A land of mystery, beauty, and power.

In recent times there has been some upheaval as those of the free lands - known as both the Scattered and the Middle Isles - begin to fear the power that the deities exercise over the two main continents, Esiria and Soare. Although no god has endeavoured to conquer the free isles, the people still fear. And there is talk that some have formed groups in Esiria and Soare in support of removing the deities, those who invaded their homeland.

The deities did not choose Elenlond, although they certainly named it. After their original homeland, Mianor, imploded on itself and the world began to devour its own entity, the gods gathered as many of their surviving citizens as they could, pushing them through the largest of the rifts that had begun to form in Mianor. There they travelled, weary from their travels, uncertain of their future.

This time was known as The Great Migration.

It lasted for many weeks - perhaps even months; few kept journals of their journey, and many perished along the way - but eventually, there was an end in sight. The people of the old land plunged into the new and it was named Elenlond. Once they were settled, the people could only breathe:

Our Celestial Haven.

Elenlond has been around for several years, although it recently underwent renovations. Although we sport 60+ members, we are looking for active, dedicated people who will join and help activity to blossom. Our members are friendly, chatty, and we love new people. So, if you're interested, by all means join! We'd love to have you.

SmathNa - July 4, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
Newish (well, almost four months old now, I think!), VERY friendly, very welcoming, very active... I'd say at least check it out.

Knights and Barbarians, Shamans and Soldiers, Warriors and Priests, Ladies and Whores...

Not enough? We've got more--many of them dependent on your imagination. If you're creative, a good writer, and willing to try something new--this is the site for you.

So just sit back, buckle in, and Prepare for War...

The Baskar call the pale-faced strangers interlopers. They call themselves Thiasans. And they're out to crush the so-called barbarian opposition once and for all in what promises to be a long and bloody war. Barbarians? Just because their warlords marry their own sisters and they worship the sun as a God? The Baskar hardly think so. No, it's the Thiasans who must be conquered, with their castles and manor-houses, their arrogant King and brutal soldiers... their cannons and iron swords...

Come to think of it, the Baskar wouldn't mind getting ahold of some of those superior weapons... illegal arms traders, you say? It doesn't hurt that some of the Baskar are willing to trade a plant called datura--a potent hallucinogen--in return.

Then there's the plot to kidnap and sacrifice the Thiasan King to appease the Baskari Sungod...

...a prospective Queen so ugly she's thrown the country into an uproar...

...and no heir to be seen, apart from the weak and diffident Prince Fergus, the King's younger brother.

Let's face it, we're in trouble.

Welcome to Thiasa.

And for those who've read this much of the ad, some Site Trivia:

-We've won RPG-D's Forum of the Week award--a fairly big deal, apparently.
-We have an amazing new feature, auxiliary characters.
-We had 30 members within a week of opening, and we're still growing (we now have over 100).
-We encourage original characters, as long as they fit into our world.
-We also have so-called 'canon' characters, mostly ones connected to characters we're already playing, and generally very broadly described--often, we won't even assign them a specific age.
-We never require that you use a certain play-by.
-'Thiasa' comes from a Greek word. Ten points if you get the reference.
-Thiasan culture is based on Medieval Italy and France, and Baskari culture is based on the Sioux and the Aztec. Animal spirits and human sacrifice--where can you go wrong?
-A bored college student made up most of the site information. It took longer to compile the information on the Baskar than it took her to write a term paper on the philosophy of consciousness.
-Our cbox is unfiltered. That's right, you can curse in it.
-Come on, you know you want to join now.

Kitty5roses - July 5, 2008 11:41 AM (GMT)
We are slowly building a solid player base. We are a black jewels trilogy rpg, we accept all levels of player, and you don't need to have read the books to play so hope you check us out.
***

Darkness, a pure abyss of nothing lies all around you. Silence deafens you as you fall, deeper and deeper into the darkness, the forever night stretching out around you. You continue to fall, deeper and deeper into the abyss of yourself, into the well of your power, until something catches you. A spreading white silken web stretching out beneath you cushioning your descent. Even as it catches you though you can feel the silken strands stretching and breaking beneath your weight until you fall through, knowing that the web that can sustain you lies deeper.

Can you dance the dance of the blood? Tangle with a Warlord Prince, a member of the blood who is as violent as he is passionate. Will you test your skill against the Black Widow, the poisonous witch who can see glimpses of the past, the future and the darkness that rules all? Will you serve as a Queen, watching over her territory and the people who call it home?

Can you learn to live with the Forever Night?

Forever Night is a relatively new site with enthusiastic players and many territory court positions are still open. We cater for RPers of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced.

So come, join us, and let the blood sing to the blood, through the forever night.

I am tossing ours in even though it is technically an HP AU. Our board has been around in different incarnations for over three years now. This chapter is called the Black Pullet and it's been very active. While we classified ouselves as HP, we only barely have our foot in the canon. We keep discussing going to Original because the only thing we have kept at The Black Pullet is the idea that there is a magical world.

We do not discuss anything at all HP related, including Hogwarts, Dumbledore or Voldemort. In our world, they don't exist. We have our own group of villans called the Dray and a dark grimoire called the Black Pullet that has just fallen ino their hands. The destruction of the Black Pullet is bad for everyone as the book has its own agenda and it is now trying to bring itself back together....

While we are dark, we also add an element of absurdity and silliness so the world isn't just one big black hole.

Here is some of what you will find:

    Welcome to Myridia.

Welcome to a small, flourishing metropolis of diverse cultures and knowledge. Welcome to a country of fascinating characters, magic, and wonder. Welcome to a world so familiar, and yet so different. Myridia is a land pressed between two powerful empires. It is a land struggling to survive under the gaze of giants, but had persevered for decades. Its magically gifted population gives it a powerful edge, as well as its strategic geographical position.

    But tides often change…

It is only a matter of time before one of the empires tries to take Myridia as just another prize in their war chest. It is only a matter of time before an empire brings blood and war to Myridia’s gates. This has caused tensions to stir uneasily amongst the proud people of Myridia. They begin to debate on their nation’s next move, with some calling out to submit to either of the greater territories.

Yet the pride of independence rings strong in many of the citizens; whether it be for tradition, for belief, or for pure ignorance.

But intrigue also churns within Myridia’s borders. With an active governance system in which political factions rule, the clashes within Myridia are often more fiery than those outside its borders. Everyone has a say, and political disagreement can often be dangerous, risky, and precarious. Factions fight for dominance, and the ever present guardianship of The Council looms silently.

A land built upon the ambitions, heartache, and passion of its people, Myridia is a place where the smallest of tales can have the most powerful of consequences.

In a land in which all factions have a say, a single voice might just make the difference.

    Will it be yours?
Betrayal. Intrigue. Deception.
M.Y.R.I.D.I.A

Come join us at Myridia! We’ve got an original, exciting plot going, and have many canon position still available-- although original characters are more than welcome. We are a vibrant, active community of role-players, and we’re a great place to indulge in smaller, more personalized character plots.

200 years have passed since the immortals were sealed away. In the generations to follow, they exist only in tales to amuse the children of kingdoms such as Tortall. The country's capital, Corus, is filled with citizens from all walks of life, each living, from day to day, as well as they can manage - some more legally than others.

The palace is abuzz. Not only has one of the Conté princesses become betrothed, but her Carthaki fiancé has come to Corus – for all that the wedding is half a decade away. With him have come banquets, balls, a tournament, and scores of newcomers, from courtiers to slaves. Not all of the visitors, however, have arrived to wish the couple well; any good spy knows the best time to move in.

Too, mages bring bad news. Suggestions of a poor harvest come autumn leaves city residents unsure which would be worse: higher taxes in order to pay for food imports, or a winter starvation. With such uncertainty in the air, many have begun to turn to the Court of the Rogue for help – but at the moment, the Rogue isn’t the happiest of places, either.

Outwardly, the country is at peace. Inwardly, though, old prejudices die hard. While the war with the Yamani Islands has since ended, the Yamani who make their home in Corus still face residual bitterness, making a hard life even harder. Word of skirmishes along Tortall’s southern border reaching the streets has the potential to create another public enemy, Mithros slay any resident who suggests the true enemy might lie within the city’s walls.

In a place such as this, everything can change at a moment’s notice, and never shall any day be ordinary in
CORUS

you know the story.

once upon a time in a faraway line there was a princess that fell in love with a prince, and through many daring obstacles they were able to live happily ever after.

but that's all gone now.

magic is beginning to fade from the land of fairy tales.
lost boys are growing up.
faries are growing taller.
creatures are turning human.
spells backfire with the least provocation.
true love is practically nonexistant.
and to top it all off, there are shadows everywhere one turns.

it is the belief by many that these shadows are the root behind magic fading from the region. for the first time in their lives good and evil will slowly come to terms with one another to hunt down the magic that has always ruled their lives in an effort to make things right again.

there will be daring adventures.
there will be many battles fought.
there will be much soul searching.
and there will be chaos through it all.

welcome to a world where happily ever after is nothing more than a distant memory.

Ooh, RoM fits perfectly! We don't have gods as playable characters, and as RoM is completely freeform original fantasy/medieval, there's no canons, either. Plus, we're really active, with many IC and OOC posts every day.

How does it look?

Fantasy is Reality . . .

Enter into a world divided.

With the fall of the Guilds, the Realm of Mystery descended into chaos, out of which rose two factions.

Noresh, place of life, preaches truth, justice, and honor.
Noctis, land of dark, tempts with the night’s honeyed poison.

Repelling and attracting, their dance is a delicate balance upon which the fate of the world rests. After all, there could not be night without day, or day without night . . .
. . . could there?

Yet now an even greater threat looms, and the two are caught in a shifty alliance that could fall apart with a single wrong move. Wanderers, unbound by pledges to either side, pursue their own agendas or seek to create their own power base. Others choose to unite with one of the two factions and test their worth from within. The promise to all beings has always been freewill, and the choice can be made only by you.

The Realm of Mystery is a freeform rpg where characters are the ones who create—or destroy—their world. Join Noctis, join Noresh, or set out on your own. Rise through the ranks or become the subtle shadow behind the throne. Throw havoc or negotiate peace—make friends or enemies—control magic or become a master of fighting—be a leader or a follower—blur the lines of reality to suit your needs. Create your character . . . . Create your destiny . . . . Create your world.

As an advanced roleplaying site, a "sample post" application is required to join. Once accepted, you will find active, supportive members who are helpful out of character and skilled roleplayers in character. Very few other sites are as long-running and creative as the Realm of Mystery, and nowhere else have individual members had the power to change and alter their world as they have on RoM. Join us, and learn the true meaning of magic.

It all began in 1692. There was so much death and destruction that families were torn apart, and neighbors became suspicious of each other. Many began to see the ruin humans could cause and fled the countries and cities of their youth in search of haven elsewhere. Some found their way to St. Anthony’s Island and the town of Little Salem.

Those who were considered mythical beings joined together for protection and survival and so began the Treaty of Three, a treaty designed to protect the humans as well as the vampires, the werewolves and the witches.

The rules were simple enough: no harm was to come to any human; no human should ever learn the existence of these groups; and no member of the treaty was to purposely hurt another member of the treaty. Any violation of these rules meant death for all those involved.

Well, strange humans with the hell-bent intention of making myths extinct have begun arriving on the island. A vampire belonging to the more peaceful of the bloodsuckers’ families has been murdered, and found alongside an innocent human. And the Treaty has been broken by the ‘child’ of one of its original creators.

A war has been brewing beneath the guise of peaceful efforts, and things are about to explode. You’re not going to want to miss the next boat to

Sparkling Lake

The main species are wolfs, humans, horses and big cats but you can ask to be a different animal if you want to be one.

Humans first came to the Sparkling Lake area through the Death Valley, one of the predator territories.

The humans settled in the Death Valley, which didn't have a name then. They would hunt the animals, killing them for their meat, pelts, furs, and coats, along with their teeth, ect.

Anyways, the animals got tired of the humans being able to kill them so easily. So, they banded together to form a huge alliance. Every creature- wolves, cats, deer, along with the other creatures of the forest. They attacked the humans one night, catching them off guard.

The animals won, of course, but not without losing a significant part of their population.

The animals named this place 'Death Valley', very accurately. Some humans got away, but not most. The animals decided to find a place where they could be friends, a place where predator and prey could get along without fearing being killed by one another. And so, this is how Sparkling Lake came into view. They decided Sparkling Lake would be the place of peace, friendship among the species. That is why no human or predator can hunt in the Sparkling Lake area.

magicians rule london.
but the rise of a resistance might cut their rule short…

In a world much like our own, there has always been only one major difference: magic was, and is... present.

Throughout history, each great civilization has followed the same cycle: built up by all, taken over by magicians, brought down by the resistance, and then left to ruins. London, however, has had a different turn-out. It is the only magician-ruled society standing strong in present day, and by general appearances, it seems that this will never change. But then again, general appearances do lie...

Prague was once a great city, but, was too, ruled by magicians. Following the grand cycle of things, it was brought down by the resistance... and the years of peace that followed were quickly shattered by a new rise of civilization: London, ruled, again, by what the commoners despised: magicians. London, however, was not like Prague - it could not be quelled in one attempt. After many attacks, the resistance realized the perfectly obvious: they were not strong enough. They would have to gather, and train, and reconvene one day... and so they did. For three decades, London held an appearance of peace. But not for long. Peace, after all, never lasted.

And one day, the time to reconvene came. The resistance did what they had been planning to do for years: they attacked. On the same night, the Prime Minister, the 'King' of magicians, died, leaving his twenty-one year-old son to take his position. At the same time, in another country, the Emperor of the Egyptians was threatened by a strong, yet unknown force... and decided to travel to London with his family and a small group of trusted guards - under the guise of "trying to strengthen ties with his older allies." Mere hours later, the gypsies also arrived in London, unaware of the chaos that would soon ensue.

Now, it is summer. The days are longer, the nights are shorter. The merpeople are seen more frequently out of the waters of Europe. Their secret existence becomes ever more harder to hide.

On that fateful day, London's greatest tower and prison was breached. A quarter of criminals were released, on command of the resistance. The Prime Minister died. The Egyptian Embassy, following them the gypsies, arrived. London's government has only one option - to act like nothing happened. After all, with the gypsies' leaders now staying in their quarters... and with the Egyptian royalty lurking nearby... a secret is only a secret until it is told. Let the chaos ensue.

Nothing will stay pure for long. Nothing.

reaching... searching... for something untouched.

You thought your life was boring. Dull. Normal. You live in Washington DC and you thought you're life was just a conglomeration of politics, bills, and gas prices. You thought that nothing extraordinary ever happened, that magic was dead, and that fantasy was something found in comic books and role playing games.

Well, you'd be wrong.

Welcome to the Harbor, a portal to another world. Another world, where magic reigns, where magical creatures roam free, and where a dark force is currently ruling. Euphrania, once ruled by two benevolent brothers, is now in ruins, a disagreement between the two sending their world into perpetual darkness. A man of non-royal blood now rules, creating dissent in the people and the very nature of Euphrania. His evil magic is too great to be reckoned with. The only hope for the people of Euphrania is to see a human of true royal blood on the throne once more, but where have they all gone? They've been scattered across Euphrania and the United States. These men and women of royal Euphranian blood are just like you and me, and most will live their life without ever knowing their true place. However, if found by the evil forces of Euphrania, these men and women will no doubt be disposed of... their only hope is to be found first by the good-natured people of Euphrania.

Of course, though, this is not even the beginning. This is the United States, so of course the government has to be involved.

The President has always known of Euphrania, and, since the creation of democracy within the Americas, each president has decided to keep the existence of the other world a secret. But these are different times. These are times of terrorists and murderers and thievery and rape. The current president has decided to create a faction, housed within the CIA, known as the Agency for the Betterment of US / Euphrania Relations, also called-- in a move of foreshadowing, perhaps?-- ABUSER. ABUSER is separated into several divisions, specializing in both research and reconnaissance. ABUSER's agents travel regularly to Euphrania.

But ABUSER is not, as its namesake would suggest, good.

The current President does not like Euphrania. Its existence threatens the very sanity of the world. And so, he has charged ABUSER with luring the people of Euphrania into a false relationship based on camaraderie and trade. When this is achieved, ABUSER will annihilate all of Euphrania, leaving nothing. No traces of the people, places, and magic that once existed. The good people of Euphrania already dislike these newcomers, considering ABUSER has decided to side with the Dark Lord in power for the time being. The Dark Lord has charged ABUSER with several jobs.

One: Destroy all who threaten his will.

Two: Destroy all of supposed royal blood.

Three: Using their technology, attempt to create a replica of a royal human in order to fully capture the throne or Euphrania.

ABUSER is, at the time, fully complying.

Where do you stand? Who are you? 'Cause, man, is this fantasy shit as real as ever, You better pick a side, before a side picks you.
