Title: Picky Wordiness
Description: Looking for anything, really. Or am I?

kismet - July 3, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)
Genre: Amaze me. Plot is required, though. No real life pointlessness please.
Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. Decent spelling & grammar. Say… 400+ words?
Type(s) of Creature(s): Vampires and werewolves are a no-no. Love the concept, don’t like the roleplay. Wizards/mages/sorcerers, mutants, normal people, and any other type of creature you may think of, go for it. I’ve never RPed an animal before, but I’m not against it. If I skim through your site and find it interesting enough I’ll definitely join. Animes are not really my style but anything with Naruto nins or Avatar benders will catch my eye.
Preferred Rating: Dun care.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: As active as possible? I don’t really care how many members there are, but I don’t want a really new site either. I’m too impatient for that.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Any.

Other Notes: OK, summer being all summery boring so far so I think I can take on another RP (or two, hehehe). Here’s what will win me over for sure:
1. Utmost importance: PLOT. Must have a plot! I like it that way. Personal character plots, secondary plots are very cool, but I need something else there too. If you throw in a little political or social tension in there I’ll come running.
2. Good site graphics. Bad site graphics make me close the page/tab before I even get the chance to read the plot. I know this doesn’t have any bearing on the quality of the actual roleplay, but, to me, it’s really annoying to stare at a site for hours and hate the way it looks. Not too dark either. I’ve seen a site recently where the skin was this dark grey/brown and the writing was only a tinge lighter. Not only that, but the text was small too. I had to squint to see what was written there! OK, I guess I can blame it on my high screen resolution, but that’s ridiculous!
3. Not mandatory, but would get you extra points: comprehensive app sheet. I’m not saying it should say anything in the lines of “you have to write 3 paragraphs for your Appearance field”. No way. Really. The thing is, when I create a character, I have all the information inside my brain, but have trouble extracting it. Therefore I need lots of fields and additional questions to help me.
4. Canon characters. It’s not a must, but I like the idea of them. It’s nice when you get to adopt someone else’s idea and develop it your own way. But here’s the catch. They have to be YOUR canon characters. If your site’s based on a fandom, I’d prefer it if it was AU. I don’t want to see Harry Potter or Naruto or Ged or Peter Petrelli walking around. The exception would be Marvel/DC characters.
5. Original characters. This is a must. Sites with ONLY canon characters tell me one thing: control-freaks!
6. Climbing up the bandwagon here: friendliness. Yeah, no newbie wants to be ignored, big surprise here. Cbox or anything of the kind would be great.
7. I prefer invisionfree, though I can’t say I’ll turn down a site because of the provider.
8. Would be great if there was a list of the active characters [and players] there, with links to the profiles so I can look around and get a general idea of the players and characters. Just a thought.
9. If it’s a site that works with characters that possess special abilities, I’d like to see the moderators being really bitchy about acceptance and not shying out of saying: “your character’s overpowered, tone it down”. Too many times has my game been spoiled by such displays and I don’t want to see it happen again.
10. No age limit, or range or preference. Would be cool if there were characters from all age groups, from children to very old men and women. Diversity is key, or so I've heard. ;)
11. No matter where your RP's set, it would be nice if you had some kind of description of the place, buildings and things, even if it's very sketchy. Something to get me into the FEEL of the place, if you know what I mean. Even if it's New York, I'd like to be able to visualize it. The best solution for what, I guess, would be a made-up world, leaving much to the player's imagination.

IMPORTANT! If you feel your site is not in accordance to all of these but still think I might like it, shove it in there. Who knows? Still, guideline no.1 is not to be ignored. Never, ever. EVER!

Gosh. I’m officially renaming this ‘Picky Wordiness’. Thanks for bearing with me, looking forward to checking out your sites!

Hayden Ivanti - July 3, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
we are very new, and don't have a lot of members. but it seems we fit all of your other requirements so have a look around.

Twenty five years ago Amana was becoming a truly dark place. Aelin Telimar was only a small push away from plummeting the nation into a war that would tear her apart. Only two very special beings, from Aelin's own future, could stop him. And it was for that reason that Jackline and Connor Telimar defied magical law and traveled through time to when they were only infants.

Once they had the people of Amana on their side, things were easy, and fairly quick to end. The twins, yes Jackline and Connor were in truth the children of Aelin, fought their father, with a little help, and managed to stop him. They believed they had killed him. And they might have if not for their little sister,Jocelyn Elanis, who was totally devoted to the man she considered her father.

Jocelyn used every bit of strength in her to defend her father, mostly without her siblings knowledge, and did succeed in saving his life. She hid him deep in the heart of Barena, for though he was alive, at the time he was very weak from the battle. But over the years since, he is regaining his old strength.

The time is coming closer. Will the darkness that the twins worked so hard to prevent return? Or will they be able to stop their father once and for all this time? Will Amana return to darker times?

LittleRikku - July 3, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
Heyyy, you might like us. I won't waste time describing the plot cuz'...i'll post it underneath this xD

but, we do have most if not all of your requirements. We're fairly new so it's not confusing for you to throw a character or two into it.

Las Vegas is where anything goes, and everything stays. All the secret affairs, gambling, it's where people go for time to just have 'fun'. But then, there's always cheaters to this system and sometimes, it's not always fun for everyone else.

Casino: Fatale is a Literate To Advanced roleplay forum about transparant societies underneath all the lights, and the fancy colors that Las Vegas holds. Two teams, FALCON, and RAVEN, oppose each other in pure hatred for one another, or at least, their leaders due to beliefs about the way things should be run. Main mission? To destroy one's organization before the other destroys yours. Some may think it's simple, and each group puts the main goal as 'Protecting Vegas'.

But there's more to the story than a simple fight and protect scenario. It goes into a deep history between the leaders of each team, and the original goal that both teams shared. Differences create enemies, and now you must decide on where your loyalties lie. And is what you're fighting for truely noble?

Metamorphosis is a text-based play-by-post role-playing game for adults located on Yuku. The game takes place in an alternate X-Men universe, featuring reinterpretations of canon characters. What if Logan was a woman? What if Marrow was in command of the X-Men? What if Magneto was Irish and a member of the IRA?

In the world of Metamorphosis, the existence of mutants has just been publicly acknowledged. Not everyone has met a mutant (that they are aware of) but it seems as if everyone has a friend who has a friend who says they know one. The general public is both curious and fearful. Mutants are usually secretive, not knowing how people will react to their genetic status.

Xavier's mansion is secretly the home of a small mutant paramilitary organization known as the X-Men. The X-Men are a highly trained covert strike force of men and women that protects mutants from violent persecution and battles anti-human mutants.

The Brotherhood of Mutants is led by Magneto under the legitimate guise of Magnus Enterprises. Erik Magnus is a powerful force in the business world. Magneto’s goal is nothing less than a new world order, a utopia where mutants rule and Homo sapiens serve, if they are allowed to exist at all. All those who are allied with him follow his vision.

The Hellfire Club is an exclusive private club for the very top layer of society, but rather well known to the public because of some high profile members. The legitimate, public side of the Hellfire Club is part country club, part athletic club, and part nightclub, but there is an illegitimate side as well, where just about anything goes.

Weapon X is a federally funded black ops agency publicly charged with the study of X-gene mutations and neutralizing dangerous mutants. In addition to a large research staff, mutant and human Agents staff the military division of the Program. Officially, they are a newly formed agency, but in actuality they have existed clandestinely for nearly three decades.

Metamorphosis has been going strong for more than four years. We offer exceptional writing, a gritty and interesting world to play in, and a laid back atmosphere. So pick one of your favorite canon characters, twist him or her into something different from their former selves, or create a new character and join us!

I'm sorry, LittleRikku, but your site isn't quite what I'm looking for.
Jagwaar: Firstly, thanks! Secondly, haha, that sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going to go skim through char apps and posts now. Will let you know if I decide to join.

200 years have passed since the immortals were sealed away. In the generations to follow, they exist only in tales to amuse the children of kingdoms such as Tortall. The country's capital, Corus, is filled with citizens from all walks of life, each living, from day to day, as well as they can manage - some more legally than others.

The palace is abuzz. Not only has one of the Conté princesses become betrothed, but her Carthaki fiancé has come to Corus – for all that the wedding is half a decade away. With him have come banquets, balls, a tournament, and scores of newcomers, from courtiers to slaves. Not all of the visitors, however, have arrived to wish the couple well; any good spy knows the best time to move in.

Too, mages bring bad news. Suggestions of a poor harvest come autumn leaves city residents unsure which would be worse: higher taxes in order to pay for food imports, or a winter starvation. With such uncertainty in the air, many have begun to turn to the Court of the Rogue for help – but at the moment, the Rogue isn’t the happiest of places, either.

Outwardly, the country is at peace. Inwardly, though, old prejudices die hard. While the war with the Yamani Islands has since ended, the Yamani who make their home in Corus still face residual bitterness, making a hard life even harder. Word of skirmishes along Tortall’s southern border reaching the streets has the potential to create another public enemy, Mithros slay any resident who suggests the true enemy might lie within the city’s walls.

In a place such as this, everything can change at a moment’s notice, and never shall any day be ordinary in
CORUS

beta pleated sheet - July 4, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
Well, we don't hit every single one of your points, but our plot is centered on political tension and the like. Hell, that's one of the main points of the board as a whole! Do come take a look.
___

2376
The Dominion has been defeated. Against all odds, the Federation of Planets and its allies were victorious. Many brave souls gave their lives for the cause—soldiers and civilians, friends and family, leaders and lovers—but it finally seems that once more everything is safe and well in the galaxy.

The war criminals who aided the Dominion now face trial - but by whom? You see, even the most noble wars cause damage. Even the wars with the best intention behind them cause problems.

Anarchy
Out of all the powers involved in the Dominion War, the Cardassian Union suffered the most. Their capital planet of Cardassian Prime was utterly destroyed, leaving the survivors to live in a place of anarchy, famine, and disease. While their other colonies and territories may not have suffered the same destruction, with their government destroyed they cannot do much to keep the pieces together.

Tension
While still intact, the Romulan Star Empire came out of the war with its own political problems to sort out. Fighting alongside their old enemies left a growing rift between the Romulan people. Should they return to the isolationist ways, or should they entertain the idea of staying on the Federation's good side?

The Klingon Empire finds it's self in a similar situation. Do they separate themselves from the Federation or do they continue what has become an improbable - but strong - relationship? The issue could tear apart Qo'noS and what little is left of the Klingon Empire.

Recovery
The Federation - and all involved in the war - are trying to rebuild. Havoc has been wrecked throughout Federation space. The Federation feels they have a duty to keep law and order in the alpha and beta quadrants during this troubled time, but how can they do that when half their resources - both in people and technology - are gone?
____________

We are a somewhat free-form Star Trek RPG, set shortly after the end of the Dominion War. Our purpose is to address the end of the war issues left behind after the finale of Deep Space Nine.

Although Harry Potter is nothing amazing now, I'd like to think that After Graduation and its plottage is. ^_^ AG is an AU post-DH HP roleplay based around life after Hogwarts, as witches and wizards make their way in the world. It's currently the summer of 2018. Harry Potter and other important leaders in the UK have gone missing, and Minister Shacklebolt was recently murdered. There's plenty of political and social tension, especially between the muggle and magical communities which don't always work together well. The real issue, however, is the fourth unforgivable curse and all of its social and political implications.

My co-admin and I run the site in such a way that every member becomes an important part of the story. We've got lots of subplots which work together to make a larger plot. The larger plot focuses on the fourth unforgivable curse that the dept. of mysteries developed; the curse steals your soul from you, and is going to cause huge problems in the future.

Other Notes: We have canons and originals, though the site is primarily originals. You can play characters of any ages (though the site focuses on young adults and adults. The current age rage is something like eighteen to eighty).

Here's the ad. A few links you'll be interested in looking at are the plot thread (found in the ad), as well as the Character Sign-Ups and the Alters list, which will give you an idea of our member base.

QUOTE

AFTER GRADUATION: THE FOURTH UNFORGIVABLE

"I'm afraid that I cannot share the particulars with you. I work in the Department of Mysteries; you understand. Suffice it to say that we seek to understand the differences between magic and Muggle; moreover, why they are different."

"An Unspeakable?...Humor me, are you really trying breed a new race of Super Blast-Ended Skrewts to use in a war against the French wizarding community?"

"I'm afraid the truth of our work is a great deal less amusing."

"I refuse to believe your work is boring. I'm sure you're working on something utterly fascinating, like trying to unlock the mysteries of the human soul."

"Do you find the human soul fascinating?"

"Well, yes, I suppose I do. It is the very essence of who we are. It transcends death itself. That's what makes the Dementors so utterly terrifying. They weren't just destroying your body, they were destroying your very being. You can exist without a body, ghosts are proof of that...but your soul is everything."

THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC WANTS YOUR SOUL.

•• AG is a post-DH Harry Potter roleplay based around life after Hogwarts. Our characters are adults and recent Hogwarts graduates who are now full members of the wizarding community. The setting of the site is the wizarding U.K. rather than Hogwarts.

•• It's the summer of 2018. Harry Potter has gone missing and Minister Shacklebolt has been murdered. Dubbed the 'apparition bug' by the Daily Prophet, these mysterious disappearances happen to many important wizarding leaders through the summer months. With so many leaders gone, how will the young men and women taking their places cope? Can they overcome the challenges they encounter in the wide wizarding world? Or will they meet the same unfortunate fate as their predecessors? It's the new Wizarding world, and here, the soul is everything.

•• AG is intermediate/advanced with a PG-13 rating. Our joining process is simple; post your profile, and you're automatically accepted. The Admin strive to make every member and character an important part of the site. No matter whether you create an original or adopt a canon, you're always an important contributor to the site. The community is very friendly; we love chatting with guests about any questions or comments they have, so we'd love it if you dropped us a word in the chat box. Looking forward to your visit--Carmen & Spiv, site admin.

Not saying we hit all the points (Though in my mind we are only missing the OC point, and OCs will be allowed later in the game), but I like to think that XMS is a board that may be able to strike your interest. :) Plot is below, and feel free to contact me (Jean Grey Summers or Jubilee) if you have any questions.

Canon List :: Overall Plot :: Advertise

18 years ago, a boy was born to one of the most powerful mutants in the world, and the leading doctor in genetics, Professor Charles Xavier and Dr. Moira McTaggert. David Charles McTaggert grew up with his mother on Muir Island while his father went back to New York to create what would later be known as Xavier's School for Gifted students.

As the boy grew, so did his jealousy at his father's inability to connect with him, whereas he was perfectly able to connect with his mutant students. Young David's powers came to light when he was 13, and with the powers came the boy's mental illness. In a fit of rage, the boy killed his mother, after learning the use of the Muir Island jets and how to get to his father.

With Moira dead, and Muir Island destroyed, the thirteen year old boy flew to New York, set on taking apart the entire mansion, along with its inhabitants, which included Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe, Remy LeBeau, and Logan Howlet, along with younger students that Charles had started bringing into his school.

After a long a difficult battle that included X-Men and students alike, the boy was faced by an irate Jean Grey, who was prepared to use the full force of her powers to keep the boy from killing anyone in the mansion, however she was stopped by Charles.

With a smirk on his face, the boy killed his own father, however the strength that it took to kill Charles left David too weak to do much else. He left the mansion in ruins, but not before telling the X-Men that he would be back for them.

Currently, nearly five years after the death of their beloved Professor, the X-Men have reopened the mansion, keeping the superhero portion of it a secret even to the students. The Brotherhood has been formed by a blue skinned, redheaded morphing mutant named Mystique, and a precog named Destiny, after a prophecy shown to Destiny showed Mystique ruling the world as Homo-Superior. The only catch is the fact that David McTaggert was the brawn, while Mystique was the brain.

Where will you stand?
Will you stand with the X-Men, who have pledged themselves to their students and the world that hates them?
Or will you fight with the Brotherhood for David and Mystique's view of Homo Superior ruling supreme?

Sometimes, you must make a Sacrifice.

Well, I think we are worth a peak. I think we meet a lot of your criteria. Though, of course, graphics and such are a matter of personal opinion, so I'll have to leave that up to you.

We are an AU HP site that has a very politically and dark plot. While few have heard of it, if you know the movie Philadelphia Experiment II, we are Harry Potter meets PE II. Werewolves are permitted as they are in the verse but they are very limited and only given to good PRers. We are definitely not going to be overrun by them and they serve a specific role in our world.

We definitely have the plot criteria and there is a lot of political tension. With Europe knee deep in discrimination, the world has become a modern, magical version of WWII Europe. We have an extensive character sheet and we promote character development before starting as well as during the course of RP. We are AU and do have some canon characters but Harry isn't walking around. Most canons have been highly modified.

So, short of touching on each of your points individually, I think we are worth a look!

Everyone made mistakes, even he, Lord Voldemort, did. And, it had been a gross and, at times almost fatal mistake. The Seer's prophecy about the Potter boy had seemed so simple and straightforward and it had distracted Voldemort from the real threat to his rise to power. But, the truth was, there had been nothing special about the boy. Potter had never really been a real threat.

It should have been obvious. The real threat was and had always been Albus Dumbledore. It had been him that had denied Lord Voldemort the ability to return to Hogwarts those many years ago. It had been he that had hid the Potters. Dumbledore had been the one to put the protections on the Dursley house. If Dumbledore could be neutralized, surely any other hindrances could easily be handled.

The task was simple. Go back and eliminate the real threat before it could thwart him so readily in the years to follow. Eliminate the Dumbledore bloodline before it could meddle in the true fate of the wizarding world.

The world had been as it was when he'd retired that evening. But he went to sleep, trusting that the time turner had worked. The Death Eater had reached their destination and the mission would be completed successfull. When the Dark Lord had awoken the next day to a delightfully different world, he needed no reports to know that the mission had been successful. The Dumbledore's had been eliminated, their world had been claimed and no one seemed aware of this drastic change that had occurred to their world.

It was clear things had changed. England, and indeed the whole world, had woken to a whole new reality the next day. It was a world in which the Dark Lord’s Death Eaters had been in control since their first claim of power in the early 1970s. The muggle class served the superior wizarding class and the Dark Lord enjoyed supreme rule over Great Britain. With Grindelwald alive and in power in continental Europe, they were well on their way to a superior wizarding race.

Most people are unaware of the change in history and situation. For most of them, they just have the memories of the current version of history, those having overwritten any memories of an alternate reality. On occasion, small percentages of people may experience a strange flashback or dream or something else that hints that things may have been different. But, such flashbacks are fleeting and frequently written off as wishful thinking.

Fires At Midnight

What is Fires At Midnight?

Our world takes place during the year 1997, when the main trio would be in their sixth year in the Harry Potter books of J.K. Rowling. In our world, in an attempt to secure his place of power, the Dark Lord sent one of his followers back in time to eliminate the Dumbledores before Albus and his siblings are born. In a world absent of Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald rises to power in continental Europe while, later, Lord Voldemort rises to power in England.

We welcome folks that are new to the HP world and RPGing in general. While the basic plot of this RP is based on the HP world, there have been many changes to the history, characters and Harry Potter universe. So, there is plenty of room for you to find your own storyline, even if you aren't caught up in the Harry Potter mania.

I totally adore it when I can honestly say my site fits all your requests, every last one of them, including the all age allowance of characters, point of proof, we have a three year old in play at the moment and are dying to have more little ones around so she has someone to play with.

PG-13 rated, over four years old, more characters than members, powers accepted as long as they are linked or each have a weakness involved, AWESOME site graphics thanks to our wonderful graphics maker Kate, and the wonderful creator of the skin we have SyKo, a very unique upcoming plot, Canons, Made Ups, InvisionFree, oh, and there is a very easy to understand Bio Application too.

Whoot. Anyways, check us out, and wishing you the best in finding what your looking for ^_^.

A lot has happened over the course of time, strength and growth clearly seen, as a new school year will inevitably bring more of the usual danger a resident of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters often faces. It seriously doesn’t help that Magneto‘s decision to open a new school of his own has seen many new mutants drawn to the Master of Magnetism's ideals. The Brotherhood Superiorum continues to grow strong, however, it's about to become no longer a school. Erik Magnus Lensherr cannot continue to inculcate his anti human ideals into the next generation if he has to constantly be looking after the duties being Principle entails!

No, it's time to simplify things so he can once again focus solely on the dream that mutants WILL one day reign supreme!

Who really wants to take sides though? Who really cares about either of their ideals? If that sounds like you, then DME is where you belong. Mana4X2's own concept created faction, Damien-Myne Enterprises, stretches over several cities, with its main office in New York City. Your boss is Colin Damien Myne, AKA Boilmet, founder and owner of this Freelance faction;; he offers you great accommodation, excellent pay, and the freedom to do whatever you want…

Cross him, though, and your life won’t be worth living! Boilmet will do whatever it takes to make sure nothing gets in the way of furthering his business… NOTHING, not even you.

And then there is talk that the FoH is working on something to eradicate mutant kind. Will they succeed?

Who knows, because only time will tell…

Plotting,we have a very generic plot, but we allow a lot of freedom in character plotting. In that way we are pretty freeform and members can think up plots together (either they are board wide, or restricted to a ship/town or between a few characters). We're still relatively new, but we already have quite some activity going on, and we are of course still looking for new blood ^_^. We don't have canon characters, what we do have are open positions that need to be filled in.

Anyways, about my site, it's Out In The Black, a Firefly Verse Based RPG (no canons), if you've never heard of Firefly, it's kind of space meets the old wild west. It's not required at all to have seen the seires, and all the info is located on the forums. Also there's a 'Who's who' topic which lists accepted members and their characters. If you have any questions or need help getting your character info down, you can always pm me there or post in the cbox!

Now to our ad/plot:

Early 21st century, Earth had finally grown beyond its limits and exhausted its resources. Mankind reached for the stars and found themselves a new solar system, with dozens of planets and hundreds of moons. Each one eventually terraformed to sustain life, a process taking decades.

Early 26st century, life on the partially colonized outer planets resembles the lawlessness and desolation of the American Old West. While the core planets prospered and grew strong in their ideals under Alliance control. The Alliance, a formation between old America and China, wanted to get the outer planets under their control too. Independents refused these idealistic views and war broke out, known as the unification war.

Five long years later war ended with heavy casualties on both sides, more heavily so on the Independents side than the Alliance. Even more then before the outer worlds were impoverished and crime ridden.

The year is now late 2519, and in the quest to seek out the perfect civilization the Alliance began experimenting to create the perfect society in taming aggressive behaviour. But it backfired resulting in millions of innocent lives that were lost and the birth of a new people, Reavers, malicious and cannibalistic people. Alliance tried to cover everything up.

Mid 2519 word got out, the last recorded message of a scientist was broadcasted across the Verse. The secret revolting and rebellion spread across the stars once more. The Alliance denied the reports at first but eventually embraced the idea and regarded it as a necessary loss. Others thought differently.

The Alliance this time is on the guard, trying to stop any uprising of those who step out of their control and challenge them. The 'Miranda' project, as they called it, has become their battle cry. It has been seared into their brain as lost loved ones made their sacrifices on that forgotten planet.

Its a playing ground; how will you play it ?

An active & original Firefly Verse RPG! Set after the Serenity movie in late 2519. Explore life on the Rim or join up on a ship, anything is possible on ’Out In The Black’

AG is a PotC-themed RP, but many liberties have been taken with the movie plots. We lean more heavily toward being a historical board with slight fantasy elements than we tend to the PotC fandom. Our time period is roughly around the 1750s, give or take a few years. Plots are member-created and member-driven, with fresh creative always welcome.

Action and tension define many of the relationships at AG. There's currently a lot of upheaval going on in Port Royal - which is carrying over in a lesser degree to Tortuga - and it's a perfect chance for opportunistic characters and plots to move in and set up. There literally isn't any limit on the possibilities. If you want a bit of an idea how things are laid-out, check out this thread.

There is a Cbox at the bottom of the main page if you have any questions.

Starting before Dead Man's Chest and adopting characters from all three movies, Aztec Gold rewrites the sequels--borrowing plots and events, but adding it's own twist to the story with the addition of original characters and more plots than even At World's End could boast. After the Curse of the Black Pearl, nothing is set in stone, the plot and what can happen is as fluid and ever changing as the sea. And as harsh and un-tameable as a sea goddess who may yet be restored...

ok, so let me see if i can't tackle this in a coherent manner XD

Genre: we're a real life mafia rp
Difficulty: advanced. we ask for at least 500 words a post
Type(s) of Creature(s): mortals, it's real life.
Preferred Rating: R but just to cover ourselves in case things get too messy. we ask that the threads be marked if they're mature, though
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: we've got a handful of members but we're all active and an admin is on every day, at least twice a day.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: it's set in modern times in detroit but the city has been broken down into ethnic districts to suit our needs

Other Notes:
1. Utmost importance: PLOT
we encourage people to plot away but we do have a main board plot that we ask everyone stick to. there will be board wide plot twists and, once our original board wide plot is finished, we'll introduce a new one based on current events on the board.

2. Good site graphics.
um... i'm a little biased, here. lol, i did just about all of the graphics on the site and i'm pretty critical on my work so i think they're not bad. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, though.

3. Not mandatory, but would get you extra points: comprehensive app sheet.
there's a link to the application sheet in our side bar but we ask for a certain amount of detail in the fields of personality and history for our characters so that we can understand who they are and where they're coming from.

4. Canon characters.
we've got several! they're the only high ranking officials on the board [the mafia 'superiors'] and we'd like for people to take them but we don't require it. there's just a last name, gender, and a small bit of information on what they're job in the gang is. aside from that, they're completely original.

5. Original characters.
of course! what kind of board would we be? seriously, i hate canon only boards or the ones that require you to make a canon first before you can have an original so we share your pain.

6. Climbing up the bandwagon here: friendliness.
again, all a matter of opinion but the administrative team and the members, alike, try our best to welcome new members. who wants to be on a board where you don't feel welcomed?

7. I prefer invisionfree, though I can’t say I’ll turn down a site because of the provider.
you're in luck! we're invisionfree.

8. Would be great if there was a list of the active characters [and players] there, with links to the profiles so I can look around and get a general idea of the players and characters. Just a thought.
in our who's who thread [in the general chat, which is closed to guests] we have a list of members and their characters. under their names, there are links to their bios and plots so it's easier access

9. If it’s a site that works with characters that possess special abilities...
unfortunately, we just host humans.

10. No age limit, or range or preference.
again, another unfortunate but it's a gang/mafia board so we didn't really think that children would be on the board and we ask that our characters be no younger than eighteen.

11. No matter where your RP's set, it would be nice if you had some kind of description of the place, buildings and things, even if it's very sketchy.
we have small descriptions about our locations but nothing too detailed. it was part of the reason we picked a city that everyone should know.

so, if you're still interested, i'll be attaching the plot to the bottom of this.

pick me up, i'm falling...
Detroit. Already one of the most infamous and dangerous cities in the world. One wouldn't think that it would be possible for this city to become even more so, but it has.

For years, the Colombians, Italians, and Russians had all held a shaky truce while they attempted to take their control over the city. Each 'gang' had their own specialty and each one was trying to rub out the other in subtle ways. The Colombian Cartel ran the best drugs, the Russian Mob had the best weapons and the Italian Mafia held great power in the city government. Unfortunately, they were always at war. One man, a great and respected leader from the old days, stepped up to bring peace to the city and offered a way to make the best of their strengths and weaknesses. Together, the three leaders from the three families and the revered leader were going to turn things around at a summit meeting in downtown Detroit. What happened then, no one can honestly tell you.

    Dead.

It was all over the news for weeks. The one that they called the Don was found dead in his hotel room the day before the meeting when all of the families and their people were in town and on edge. With such a loss to their last hope, it seems that everyone is pointing the finger at the other. The police just blamed the families and their war but the families are blaming one another. Who could have done this? The Colombians? Well, of course they want to own the drug world but what would they do with the whole city? The Russians? Americans still like democracy, thank you. The Italians? Those pasta loving morons would turn the city into some backwards third world village! So then... who?

If you listen very carefully, you can hear it.

I can provide you with political and social tension in abundance PLUS people with powers! Hooray!

Three Wishes is a fantasy asian steampunk RP inspired by many things, but mostly Chinese Astrology. The agrarian feudal world of the Beast Gods is in the throes of an industrial revolution, and under the control of the sociofascist Imperial Regency. Human rights are essentially illegal, and worshiping the Beast Gods is tantamount to high treason. Without the support of their people, the Gods are losing their power over the land, and the land is fracturing.

We're pretty active and very friendly; there's always something going on in the chatbox (except today, because it's a holiday XD). We love new people, and there are a zillion different character types and concepts -- both canon (predefined positions) and original (whatever you want) characters available.

This site may be of interest to you. It isn't brand new, but it is farely new, and the members which we do have are as active as they possibly can be;

I want to wake up
In a city that doesn’t sleep

Most people tend to tread around certain people in their neighbourhoods, not living too closely with each other. Other’s couldn’t give a damn and will live with whoever they have to for things to run smoothly.

In a city as big as New York, you can imagine how high the crime rates should be; but in one certain parts of the city, they seem to be lowering dramatically. Is that because of the amazing police work being carried out? Or are people just too afraid to report a crime nowadays?

Rumour has it that there are a few in this small part of Manhattan who live above the law; and have many members of the police along with other civil servants, prosecutors, judges, jurors on their payroll.

Not everyone takes too kindly to the cash handouts from these petty crooks, and choose to deliver the police work that they swore to in the very beginning. Once they swear to uphold to law by any means necessary, they tend to stick to it. However tempting the gifts from the lowlifes of this city may be, they keep out of it and do the work which is expected of them

These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York

The families of this place are what are keeping it together. Aside from the corruptness and crime in New York; these Detectives know that at the end of the day, they can go home and be with the people who actually appreciate what they are doing for their city.

Normally, I'd go mad about fantasy, but the thing is, I'm already a member of a similar site and I'm looking for something different.
beta pleated sheet
I used to watch Star Trek... years and years ago. I'm sorry, but I think that if I join, I'll be totally lost and although I like a fair amount of documentation for my RPs, I try to keep away from headaches. The only thing I remember about Star Trek is... Jean-Luc Picard! Thanks anyway!
AshBeanNun
Looking good! The only thing that bothers me is the fact that you can create a character and play without requiring acceptance. I'll admit, it's bound to speed things up a lot, but it can also mean bad news. Dunno yet, will look through it more.
PhoenixLily
I realized, as I was reading through your site ad that I've really missed the X-Verse... I used to be a staunch X-Fan, you know. Still am, but I also found myself the cheap crippled imitation of a social life. (By the way, the link on your picture, the one to the site, doesn't work for some reason. The others do, though :)) Sadly, your site looks really new. Maybe when it's got more threads and characters...
Mana4X2
    It's HUGE! o.O I said I didn't want a totally new site, but that just got me...lost.
Tulojow Nagde
I'd love an HP site, but I'd really like to create my own character.
ShinLi
I guess I should be wishing I'd seen Firefly. But I'm looking, I'm looking. :D
On a different note, you run a lot of sites, boss-lady.
Cal
Not quite what I'm looking for, Cal, but thanks!
murder_101
The idea doesn't impress upon my mind. I don't think it's something I'd have too many ideas for. Might end up stuck and leaving the board... don't want to do that. Thank you, though.
Thanks, everybody! Keep posting!! I haven't made up my mind yet!

SmathNa - July 5, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
We haven't replied to this? Oh, dear! Here, let me fill this out meticulously... Hey, I swear I'll get back to posting on Myridia soon; I've been busy with work and such...

That said, I think you'd really like Thiasa. :p C'mon. Seriously. We also have my IRL friend, who's stolen your name (OK, she's Alena, AKA Lei, but still...)

Genre: I try to amaze--we're not really any one genre. Historical/fantasy/medieval (with mines, just invented)/bronze age tribal... the works, more or less. We've also got a gritty urban element...
Difficulty: We're good. We can write. :)
Type(s) of Creature(s): Just humans, many cultures.
Preferred Rating: PG-13, R with labeling
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: Very active, but not too many members--I'm actually not sure of the exact count. A lot, and welcoming, too. :)
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Past. Ish.

We have a lot of plot. A lot of political and social tension. Serf rebellion. War. Succession issues. Thieves. Drug dealers. Mercenaries. Etc.

I keep our text large. I'm working on getting some more contrast for the text in the sidebar. Other than that, I think our graphics are pretty darn good.

We do have a comprehensive app sheet. :p Check it out.

We do have canons (so-called), and some of them are added by our members, so they're hooked into plots already, though most aren't overdetermined--we don't list a whole lot of traits.

We LOVE originals!

We positively LEAP on new members. And we have a self-refeshing cbox. :D

We're invisionfree.

Hm. I like the idea of active characters on a list, but most of ours are indeed active... we do have an activity check from a bit back.

No special abilities, really, but we do keep a check on Mary Sueness. We don't like 'em. We don't let 'em in. Still, we're reasonable--no sense in having warriors who can't kill, eh?

NO age group limits, of course! That IS silly. We've got... well, thus far our youngest is 14 (there's an 8-year-old on the canon list) and our eldest is 50 (given that this is medieval-era, much older would have one foot in the grave, really).

We have an incredibly detailed site history, info, description, etc.

I'm sure you've seen our ad, but what the hey, I'm posting it ANYWAY.

Catch me on MSN sometime. AGH it has been too long.

Knights and Barbarians, Shamans and Soldiers, Warriors and Priests, Ladies and Whores...

Not enough? We've got more--many of them dependent on your imagination. If you're creative, a good writer, and willing to try something new--this is the site for you.

So just sit back, buckle in, and Prepare for War...

The Baskar call the pale-faced strangers interlopers. They call themselves Thiasans. And they're out to crush the so-called barbarian opposition once and for all in what promises to be a long and bloody war. Barbarians? Just because their warlords marry their own sisters and they worship the sun as a God? The Baskar hardly think so. No, it's the Thiasans who must be conquered, with their castles and manor-houses, their arrogant King and brutal soldiers... their cannons and iron swords...

Come to think of it, the Baskar wouldn't mind getting ahold of some of those superior weapons... illegal arms traders, you say? It doesn't hurt that some of the Baskar are willing to trade a plant called datura--a potent hallucinogen--in return.

Then there's the plot to kidnap and sacrifice the Thiasan King to appease the Baskari Sungod...

...a prospective Queen so ugly she's thrown the country into an uproar...

...and no heir to be seen, apart from the weak and diffident Prince Fergus, the King's younger brother.

Let's face it, we're in trouble.

Welcome to Thiasa.

And for those who've read this much of the ad, some Site Trivia:

-We've won RPG-D's Forum of the Week award--a fairly big deal, apparently.
-We have an amazing new feature, auxiliary characters.
-We had 30 members within a week of opening, and we're still growing (we now have over 100).
-We encourage original characters, as long as they fit into our world.
-We also have so-called 'canon' characters, mostly ones connected to characters we're already playing, and generally very broadly described--often, we won't even assign them a specific age.
-We never require that you use a certain play-by.
-'Thiasa' comes from a Greek word. Ten points if you get the reference.
-Thiasan culture is based on Medieval Italy and France, and Baskari culture is based on the Sioux and the Aztec. Animal spirits and human sacrifice--where can you go wrong?
-A bored college student made up most of the site information. It took longer to compile the information on the Baskar than it took her to write a term paper on the philosophy of consciousness.
-Our cbox is unfiltered. That's right, you can curse in it.
-Come on, you know you want to join now.

Not sure if we're quite what you're looking for, but I think I'll plug Bridgerton in. It'd be okay if you just check the site out, and drop a line at the cbox to tell us what you think. :]

At the turn of the century, Bridgerton wasn't even on the map.
It wasn't world-renowned for its astounding size and lineup of overqualified teachers. In truth, it was just a man and his four students. But Bridgerton Magical Institute is proof that small steps are needed to reach that one, seemingly farfetched goal.

Taken over by Thomas Bridgerton, with his students Francesca St. Claire, Simon Thompson, William Sheffield, and Phillip Stirling, Bridgerton Magical Institute has grown over the decades, but its visions remain the same. It aims to hone wizards and witches’ magical capabilities to the fullest. Equipped with the best facilities and the best teachers, Bridgerton promises wizards and witches the best standards.
But it's tough, being a magic school in Hogwarts' backyard.
After all, how can a tiny, century-old little school compete with the one that housed the Boy Who Lived?

With the resignation of the headmaster who had been on the job for almost fifty years, Bridgerton Magical Institute had almost been pushed into obscurity. Its students? Alumni's children, whose parents have so much trust in its educational quality; those who had gone into hiding in search of someplace to stay without being found out; or simply Hogwarts rejects.

Can a new headmaster, his deputies, and the Bridgerton students keep their beloved school from dying?
Can't you see?

Everything's changing.

So come discover the magic.

BRIDGERTON MAGICAL INSTITUTE .

If you're worried about the quality of the RPers, don't be; all of the members definitely fall within the intermediate/advanced range. So far we've managed to attract all of the good members and none of the howler monkeys, as Lurkerberry once said. If you need further convincing, just drop a line in the cbox and I'm sure the members will do their best to convince you. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a note and I'll help you out. ^_^

I predict that Asion is your kind of place. We satisfy the requirements. My co-admin and I are available for brainstorming whenever.

Link is in my signature. 'Before You Register' is a good place to start. Just recently tried to streamline the whole application process.

I've found in the past that whether or not people choose to continue writing with us is a matter of personal taste, and that we make a pretty good first impression overall. I like to see a certain level of commitment in and out of character. ^^; Can't help it. We aren't for everyone, but I personally enjoy writing with new people -- and there's plenty of room to expand in our plots.

I look forward to hearing from you if you're interested. ;D

First off, thanks for telling me about the link. I shall fix it. :)

Secondly, yes it is still rather new, and as I am still in the process of looking for staff to help me out it's moving a tad on the slow side. However, i am planning on opening up OCs within the next two weeks, and the people that are around now post actively and regularly. Plus, i am going to be picking up a few NPCs to get action going. Within the next two or three weeks heavy plot action will be going on. So I do hope that you come back to check us out...And if by any chance you are interested in a staff position I'd like to talk to you via PM. You seem to know what you are doing. :)

I kind of thought the films butchered my image of the X-Men so I'm gonna pass, sorry.

Wow... first HP site where the characters actually [albeit partly] look their PB's age! I'm really interested now! :D
Ezzelin:
I already filled my fantasy slots, sorry. If I have more time, I'll probably join though, because your site looks really cool. :)
PhoenixLily:
Haha, thanks. I do have admin/mod experience, but I've found that I like being a plain ol' member more. You might hear from me in a day or two. :)

*NR Staff* - July 9, 2008 05:27 PM (GMT)

TNR: http://www.thenetherrealm.com/forum/

Genre: We are an original fantasy RPG in a medieval setting.

Races: Take your pick. We have original and generic fantasy, humes/humanoid, everything you expect from a fantasy RPG and more.

Difficulty: We cater for all levels but our writers tend to be inter-advanced. The staff are all over 21 and the membership varies from 14-40. Our younger members are very mature.

Other Notes:

We are mega active, friendly and have a wiki!

We have also been open for almost two years and have 20,000 posts (nearly).

NR is fantasy with a twist, its mythology is original, the world well thought out and well organised in the wiki, and the RP's varied and of a great standard. Members can add to the world and we have rare artifacts and treasure hunters, one RP is a quest RP actually, and there are others that revolve around other treasures too. ;)

We have adoptable characters FYI.
