Title: After A Fantasy
Description: But No harry Potter please!
Jatam - June 29, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
Genre: Fantasy, But No Harry Potter or Star Wars, I am over them! LOL
Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced.
Type(s) of Creature(s): Human or Humanoid. No animals please
Preferred Rating: Any, as long as there isn't graphic sex and/or violence in every other thread.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: I want something that is active enough that I can log on every day and have something new to read/do. I do tend to create multiple characters with multiple threads going at once, so I don't think it's too much to ask for at least one character to have one new reply when I log on.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Any really, but not too technologically advanced, my brain may not cope. :p
Other Notes: Friendliness is a must. I have often joined boards only to find I have three characters that no one RP’s with because they have their own little clicks and I ‘just don’t fit in.’ I also don’t want to have to push my way into plots or story lines because they are too restrictive and leave no room for extra’s.
Something with steady activity would be good to. I have joined boards that look great only to have the boards Amin get bored and leave, followed by every one else and I am left RPing alone, lol. :p
Also, I live in Australia, so I am often online when most people from the states or Europe are in bed, so anything with any members living in my time zone would be great, but not mandatory.
Any thing any one can offer me?
EDIT: also, nothing too 'demonic,' ie, ghosts and gouls. I get easily freaked out by that stuff! lol

Check us out perhaps?
What if one day you awoke but could not move? You tried to move, talk, smell, taste...but all in vein. There is only consciousness... and you are not alone. Suddenly your body moves, but it feels foreign, not of your will. You try to scream, but your lips are still. You can only exist, only watch from this prison as your life is lived by someone, something else... someone who was implanted and from which there is no escape.

Fast-forward to the next generation. The world; it lies in ruins. A shadowed shell of what used to be.
Humanity struggles just to exist, forced to the bottom of the food chain.
Trying to find a new way in the world.
We were battered and broken.Dragons rule the earth; beautiful in their strength.
They have taken us from the skies. Reigning down their vengeance,
leaving us to pay the price for our ancestor's sins.
Saved by our own mutations. Some wonder if it was better to live as the lower class or to just die.
To be turned into weapons, no more than slaves to the psionic lords.
To live a life that is not yours to live.

I think we fit you very well, so I'll go through what you've asked for, point by point, to show you. :) I don't feel like just posting an ad and running, because I like your request, and I think you'd really like our site. Besides, I've been posting the ad like crazy, so I bet you've seen it.
Our basics: Thiasa is a pseudo-historical, low-fantasy (non-magic) RP, set in an imaginary land where there is a war between two cultures, one based on Medieval Italy and the other based on the Sioux and the Aztec. We have knights, shamans, lords, ladies, infantrymen, thieves, bandits, several other cultures (based on the Ottoman Empire, Germany, France, Scotland, etc.), and more.
Genre: Fantasy (historical, but not set in any real country, and we provide you with all the information you need)
Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced; we're all good writers, but we are not elitist. Mainly, we ask that you create three-dimensional characters and believable plots.
Type(s) of Creature(s): Human only, though we have several races
Preferred Rating: We're PG-13, and graphic sex and violence (sex is rare on the board, we usually fade out) are marked with an R, so you can avoid those threads.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: We are incredibly active and incredibly welcoming! I think we get about 20-80 posts a day (it depends, since a lot of us work during the week--college student summers, eh?). And most of us play multiple characters in about ten threads at a time :p We even have a special feature, auxiliary characters (essentially really short apps) that make creating multiple characters really easy.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Set in a pseudo-medieval and pseudo-Bronze Age time (our two cultures are differently advanced). So not too much technology at all.
Other Notes:
We're incredibly friendly, and our plots are very, very loose (nothing is really plotted out--we just have broad strokes, and a place for any member, however new, to add plot ideas). At the moment, for instance, we have: a war (open to tons of new characters and ideas), conflicts between our two tribes (more on that in the ad), a new thieves' guild suggested and created by one of our members, a serf rebellion, a troop of Arabian mercenaries suggested and created by one of our members, some drug dealers, some romances, some political intrigues, and more. We also request that our members create so-called 'canon' characters, which we put on our list (they are very loosely defined) so that if you want to become part of one of our already-extant families, you can. :) I myself prefer to make original characters.
I will never, ever get bored and leave! For one thing, a few of my IRL friends are on the board. We're really nice. We love to RP with newbies, and you should definitely stop by the cbox when you get the chance.
I think we have an Aussie or two, and I'm nocturnal, so I joke that I live on Australian time. One of my IRL friends is in Melbourne on Study Away, and I always catch her online. :p

Wow, me too. o_0 'Sixth Sense' freaked me out. We don't have any ghosts and ghouls, or any magic, so I'm sorry if that's what you were looking for.
Anyway, I really hope you choose Thiasa. It's a great place, and while we have what seems like a lot of site info, we are always willing to help new members get acclimated. We are a rather large community (not too large, but well-padded against RP famine) so someone's always online to help. I make a point of RPing with all new members myself, as do most of our members. Feel free to PM or IM me with any questions at all, and good luck with your search.

Well, no promises that people aren't in one gigantic clique (because we're basically a site wide clique) and we're most definitely looking for more people to join that jumbo clique! We've got decent activity and it's picking up now that RL has decided to not destroy everyone xD! We do have some demonic stuff, though if you join as a good character I doubt you'll see much of that if you keep your character on the ignorant side of magick -shrugs-.
If AS WE{FALL doesn't trip your trigger, I have a Buffy The Vampire Slayer site coming out that just might! Drop me a pm!
AS WE{FALLcollapsing to the bottom of the abyss
In the beginning of time, there was only magick. From magick, the goddess formed. They alone could control the energy from which they were born and they alone created the Planes of Existence. They alone created the Law and the Will. They alone started the Explosion. They alone guide the universe. They alone see the futures. They alone are how we got here. They alone are why we suffer, why we love, why we feel and why we learn. They alone are everything.
Time and time again, the world we live in has been afflicted with war. Faction against faction, brother against brother, and man against man. Nothing comes from these battles but blood and the idea that the winner has saved someone. Even now, the wars we fight serve no real purpose but to bring about red rivers, yet we find them to be necessities, to be ever important. There is one war however that is a must. The war between Good and Evil.
When magick arose within the creatures on the blue rock, the Goddesses selected a single family. Their blood would be the blood that would serve as the chalice for the Will. Their blood would be the bearer of truth and of power. Their blood would be that of the Royal. They would be the Queens of Queens and the Lords of Lords. They would be the guides of True Magick, and they would not be alone. They would have their guardians, and they would have their hearts. They will never be alone, for as we read we know them. They are the Royals, and their magick is our magick. Their blood is our blood, and their suffering is our suffering.
-The Book of Truth passage three hundred twenty seven
The Royals have always been around, or so we’ve hoped. As the beacon of light, the Royals have always united magick in times of crisis against the darkness, and have helped to unite the Mortals in the fight against the hidden. The Royals, while a once large family, have been killed to the brink of extinction. Three Royal Bloodlines still live, and they’re getting smaller. Witch, Vampire, and Were. The Royal Bloodlines are still alive within those races, but time is running out. The guardians of good must act quickly if they are to save the powers they were bound to protect.
And they would be the evil. They called themselves the light, but they themselves where the absence. They were the abyss, but with Our Light they were banished. They fight to conquer the Mortal, but we protect against them. We fight for the Mortal, and we fight for our Blood. We fight for the Power. We fight for the Goddesses. We battle the demon and the darkness for the Light.-The Book of Destiny passage thirty-seven
Demons, which have been rarely united as a race, have started conducting organized attacks. The Council of The Abyss has supposedly existed since before the Freemaker and this Council of Demons and Dark Practitioners have managed to wither away the Royals. They now stand resolved, with many of their followers behind them, in one single goal; eradicate the Royal.
Now take your stand in the world. Will you fight for the Royal? Will you battle for the Blood, or will you find your stance elsewhere? Will you stand in the Darkness and wage war for the Council of The Abyss, or will you be a stand alone darkness? How will your destiny play into the complicated world? Will you be a mortal who opens the door to Darkness? Whatever your role in this world, get ready, because you’ll have nothing to cling to

elphie49 - June 29, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
I have a site for you! We fit everything you asked for, though it's a little iffy on the activity. We've only been open for a week, but it's incredibly active considering that. It's a fairytale based RP, but not the average fairytale in a modern high school setting sort of thing.

Remember the time when you read books for fun? Remember when you actually learned from them? Remember the characters you loved so much?
Well, now you need to remember… for now they’ve been destroyed. Hope is not entirely lost, however; a young librarian created another world for these characters to live in safely. Here, these characters meet and live without any knowing of the world they were forced out of.
The young and those that believe in knowledge and stories can make it into the other world, though, to become a part of these lovely stories. It’s all a matter of whether or not they can find the right portal; it could be the refrigerator, the closet, anything… as long as you have your heart set on
DISENCHANTMENT.

Clipsed - June 30, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
200 years have passed since the immortals were sealed away. In the generations to follow, they exist only in tales to amuse the children of kingdoms such as Tortall. The country's capital, Corus, is filled with citizens from all walks of life, each living, from day to day, as well as they can manage - some more legally than others.
The palace is abuzz. Not only has one of the Conté princesses become betrothed, but her Carthaki fiancé has come to Corus – for all that the wedding is half a decade away. With him have come banquets, balls, a tournament, and scores of newcomers, from courtiers to slaves. Not all of the visitors, however, have arrived to wish the couple well;
any good spy knows the best time to move in.
Too, mages bring bad news. Suggestions of a poor harvest come autumn leaves city residents unsure which would be worse: higher taxes in order to pay for food imports, or a winter starvation. With such uncertainty in the air, many have begun to turn to the Court of the Rogue for help – but at the moment, the Rogue isn’t the happiest of places, either.
Outwardly, the country is at peace. Inwardly, though, old prejudices die hard. While the war with the Yamani Islands has since ended, the Yamani who make their home in Corus still face residual bitterness, making a hard life even harder. Word of skirmishes along Tortall’s southern border reaching the streets has the potential to create
another public enemy, Mithros slay any resident who suggests the
true enemy might lie within the city’s walls.
In a place such as this, everything can change at a moment’s notice, and never shall any day be ordinary in
CORUS

RoM is quite active. We have loads of new topics and replies, both IC and OOC, everyday. Just look at the last ten active topics--they're all from today and yesterday. You'll definately have your replies .
As for friendliness, I am constantly amazed by how welcoming everyone on RoM is. Despite the fact that we have some members who have been there for years, new members are nevertheless accepted with open arms. Say hi in the c-box, get to know everybody, and you'll be part of the community in no time. I've never seen any cliques, and we work hard to keep it that way.
I can't tell you where the members are from, but I live in the US and I know from glancing at the site in the morning that there's definately posting going on while I'm in bed, so I'm sure that you'll find some people in your time zone.
Plus, as we're fantasy/medieval, our most technically advanced automobile is still the horse :p.
Enter into a world divided.
With the fall of the Guilds, the Realm of Mystery descended into chaos, out of which rose two factions.
Noresh, place of life, preaches truth, justice, and honor.
Noctis, land of dark, tempts with the night’s honeyed poison.
Repelling and attracting, their dance is a delicate balance upon which the fate of the world rests. After all, there could not be night without day, or day without night . . .
. . . could there?
Yet now an even greater threat looms, and the two are caught in a shifty alliance that could fall apart with a single wrong move. Wanderers, unbound by pledges to either side, pursue their own agendas or seek to create their own power base. Others choose to unite with one of the two factions and test their worth from within. The promise to all beings has always been freewill, and the choice can be made only by you.
The Realm of Mystery is a freeform rpg where characters are the ones who create—or destroy—their world. Join Noctis, join Noresh, or set out on your own. Rise through the ranks or become the subtle shadow behind the throne. Throw havoc or negotiate peace—make friends or enemies—control magic or become a master of fighting—be a leader or a follower—blur the lines of reality to suit your needs. Create your character . . . . Create your destiny . . . . Create your world.
As an advanced roleplaying site, a "sample post" application is required to join. Once accepted, you will find active, supportive members who are helpful out of character and skilled roleplayers in character. Very few other sites are as long-running and creative as the Realm of Mystery, and nowhere else have individual members had the power to change and alter their world as they have on RoM. Join us, and learn the true meaning of magic.
Elenlond - June 30, 2008 01:27 AM (GMT)
Elenlond is rated PG-13 so there will be absolutely no graphic sex on the forum, and gore will probably be kept to a minimum (we haven't really had a problem anyway with it, so). At the moment we have many Rps going, most of which have replies on them everyday, so there should be plenty to read. I don't think anybody lives in Australia, since most people tend to be on in the evenings (I'm Mountain Standard), when I am. It'd be nice to have someone online who ISN'T around just in the evenings, lol. We're also medieval fantasy. If you're interested, check us out =D
Elenlond...
A land of mystery, beauty, and power.
In recent times there has been some upheaval as those of the free lands - known as both the Scattered and the Middle Isles - begin to fear the power that the deities exercise over the two main continents, Esiria and Soare. Although no god has endeavoured to conquer the free isles, the people still fear. And there is talk that some have formed groups in Esiria and Soare in support of removing the deities, those who invaded their homeland.
The deities did not choose Elenlond, although they certainly named it. After their original homeland, Mianor, imploded on itself and the world began to devour its own entity, the gods gathered as many of their surviving citizens as they could, pushing them through the largest of the rifts that had begun to form in Mianor. There they travelled, weary from their travels, uncertain of their future.
This time was known as The Great Migration.
It lasted for many weeks - perhaps even months; few kept journals of their journey, and many perished along the way - but eventually, there was an end in sight. The people of the old land plunged into the new and it was named Elenlond. Once they were settled, the people could only breathe:
Our Celestial Haven.
Elenlond has been around for several years, although it recently underwent renovations. Although we sport 60+ members, we are looking for active, dedicated people who will join and help activity to blossom. Our members are friendly, chatty, and we love new people. So, if you're interested, by all means join! We'd love to have you.

Cal - June 30, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
Three Wishes is a fantasy Asian steampunk RP inspired by a lovely collage of Chinese astrology and the Japanese Onmyodo. The traditionally feudal agrarian society is in the midst of an industrial revolution, combining science and magic to awesome effect (mecha polo!). The ruling body is a sociofascist regime that basically makes everything fun illegal.
We have incredibly friendly, active players in a bunch of different timezones -- one in Asia, several in Europe, and US players who are up at night. It's pretty certain you'll always find someone to talk to. :) All characters are original, and if you can think it up there's probably a home for it.
kismet - June 30, 2008 10:22 AM (GMT)
We have a few Asian RPers who'd gladly roleplay with you, several Europeans and plenty of crazy Americans and Canadians who don't know when to go to bed. But I'm not one to talk either, lol. :)

Welcome to Myridia.
Welcome to a small, flourishing metropolis of diverse cultures and knowledge. Welcome to a country of fascinating characters, magic, and wonder. Welcome to a world so familiar, and yet so different. Myridia is a land pressed between two powerful empires. It is a land struggling to survive under the gaze of giants, but had persevered for decades. Its magically gifted population gives it a powerful edge, as well as its strategic geographical position.
But tides often change…
It is only a matter of time before one of the empires tries to take Myridia as just another prize in their war chest. It is only a matter of time before an empire brings blood and war to Myridia’s gates. This has caused tensions to stir uneasily amongst the proud people of Myridia. They begin to debate on their nation’s next move, with some calling out to submit to either of the greater territories.
Yet the pride of independence rings strong in many of the citizens; whether it be for tradition, for belief, or for pure ignorance.
But intrigue also churns within Myridia’s borders. With an active governance system in which political factions rule, the clashes within Myridia are often more fiery than those outside its borders. Everyone has a say, and political disagreement can often be dangerous, risky, and precarious. Factions fight for dominance, and the ever present guardianship of The Council looms silently.
A land built upon the ambitions, heartache, and passion of its people, Myridia is a place where the smallest of tales can have the most powerful of consequences.
In a land in which all factions have a say, a single voice might just make the difference.
Will it be yours?
Betrayal. Intrigue. Deception.
M.Y.R.I.D.I.ACome join us at Myridia! We’ve got an original, exciting plot going, and have many canon position still available-- although original characters are more than welcome. We are a vibrant, active community of role-players, and we’re a great place to indulge in smaller, more personalized character plots.

The Charmed Life

Living life in a shroud of secrets isn’t easy. Especially when the biggest secret you’ve got is that you have magickal powers and a war between good and evil is a never ending conflict between witches and demons.

In the massive city of Chicago there’s a life out there that very few can even start to imagine; a life full of potions, spells, and magick that an everyday person can’t see, or chooses to ignore. With a battle like this raging in our streets how can we possible live regular lives? No one expects anyone to be normal, but this abnormality is a wonder in itself.

Now in the height of magical growth and in the infancy of this new millennium there is a new generation of witches, warlocks, demons, white lighters, dark lighters, and cupids. Sure most of them are trying to just get by but many are trying to change the world; for the better or even for the worse.
Chicago is a jungle, a war zone of traffic, pollution, culture, and art, but this… this city is where magick is our reality.

"Blood has always been the coin of our realm."~Dracula 2000
The Lord of Darkness, Dracula, rose from the dead once more in the year 2007 – and he rose with just one thing in mind. Revenge over the God who denied him death so long ago. Now, in 2008, the Dragulian Empire is for the first time truly expanding, and even more after both all of Africa and Australia submitted to the Vampire rule... and with the help of blood from a witch born with Dracula’s blood – Charlotte Heller, granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing – the Vampires are rising like never before, even able to have children, and walk in daylight. Dark Desires is inspired by the movie Dracula 2000 (but not the sequels), but also referring to many other myths about the greatest living vampire of all times. It is a good idea to have seen the movie, but not a requirement.
Join us in the new dark times, that are certainly increasing – be a part of the new world which our Lord of Darkness, and King of the Dragulian Empire, is trying to create. The threat that waited to be released, is out, and who knows if the Human kind is doomed or not? Who shall you be in this new world, if not a simple Human or one of the Vampires? Perhaps you’d be a Token, supporting the Vampires in their quest for perfection? Or maybe the opposite, a Slayer, trying to restore order in the lately chaotic world? Dark Desires contains a wide variety in characters, and is in general a very friendly community, welcoming even the more odd character types. There is much to see and explore, especially with the world coming close to a change it has not seen for centuries. If you long to know, then the only remaining question is not if, but when you will give in to your

» THESE HARBOR LIGHTS «?
IN A TURNSTILE, BACKWARDS WE FLY, LITTLE ONE, JUST A LITTLE WAY
You thought your life was boring. Dull. Normal. You live in Washington DC and you thought you're life was just a conglomeration of politics, bills, and gas prices. You thought that nothing extraordinary ever happened, that magic was dead, and that fantasy was something found in comic books and role playing games.
Well, you'd be wrong.
Welcome to the Harbor, a portal to another world. Another world, where magic reigns, where magical creatures roam free, and where a dark force is currently ruling. Euphrania, once ruled by two benevolent brothers, is now in ruins, a disagreement between the two sending their world into perpetual darkness. A man of non-royal blood now rules, creating dissent in the people and the very nature of Euphrania. His evil magic is too great to be reckoned with. The only hope for the people of Euphrania is to see a human of true royal blood on the throne once more, but where have they all gone? They've been scattered across Euphrania and the United States. These men and women of royal Euphranian blood are just like you and me, and most will live their life without ever knowing their true place. However, if found by the evil forces of Euphrania, these men and women will no doubt be disposed of... their only hope is to be found first by the good-natured people of Euphrania.
Of course, though, this is not even the beginning. This is the United States, so of course the government has to be involved.
The President has always known of Euphrania, and, since the creation of democracy within the Americas, each president has decided to keep the existence of the other world a secret. But these are different times. These are times of terrorists and murderers and thievery and rape. The current president has decided to create a faction, housed within the CIA, known as the Agency for the Betterment of US / Euphrania Relations, also called-- in a move of foreshadowing, perhaps?-- ABUSER. ABUSER is separated into several divisions, specializing in both research and reconnaissance. ABUSER's agents travel regularly to Euphrania.
But ABUSER is not, as its namesake would suggest, good.
The current President does not like Euphrania. Its existence threatens the very sanity of the world. And so, he has charged ABUSER with luring the people of Euphrania into a false relationship based on camaraderie and trade. When this is achieved, ABUSER will annihilate all of Euphrania, leaving nothing. No traces of the people, places, and magic that once existed. The good people of Euphrania already dislike these newcomers, considering ABUSER has decided to side with the Dark Lord in power for the time being. The Dark Lord has charged ABUSER with several jobs.
One: Destroy all who threaten his will.
Two: Destroy all of supposed royal blood.
Three: Using their technology, attempt to create a replica of a royal human in order to fully capture the throne or Euphrania.
ABUSER is, at the time, fully complying.
Where do you stand? Who are you? 'Cause, man, is this fantasy shit as real as ever, You better pick a side, before a side picks you.

Well, I don't think anyone lives in Australia.. but we're friendly enough, I think. :'D We're not even a week old, so we're not too active yet, but trust me, we'll get there. <3The phrase "once upon a time" has been around for who knows how long. No doubt you've heard it in your own childhood. The thing we associate it with the most is the fairytale. You know how it goes; they start with our four words in question and almost always end with a "happily ever after" of some sort. Their characters, good and bad, live in infamy. Of course you've heard of Snow White, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother, and let's not forget others from non-fairytale favorites like Alice, the Big Bad Wolf, and Merlin. Some stories have grown in popularity thanks to a certain Disney fellow. Some have yet to earn an animation deal but survive by children's books and the like.
But you know that already. Teach you something new, right?
All right then.get ready to be schooled. When most children turn eleven, they have a birthday (obviously) then continue on with their regular lives. For a select few, they are cordially invited to attend the Grimm Institute for Fairytale Characters, known shorter as just Grimm's. This school, located in an uncharted, picturesque countryside in a castle right out of tales of knights in shining armor, educates the reincarnations of the world's most renowned fictional characters. Someone has to make sure the stories are told, after all. At Grimm's, those who have inherited the spirits of these characters are taught how to harness their inner powers and to properly tell their tale. Princesses-at-heart learn to be proper princesses, Princes to fight heroically and save their damsel in distress, fairies to work their magic, and the list goes on. Even pirates and lost boys come around every now and then. It's the kind of school that every small child dreams of.
However, Grimm's is a boarding school. This educational process continues for seven years. Therefore, the castle houses students from the beginning age of eleven all the way to some of eighteen years old. Even at a school for the world's favorite stories, drama can and will arise when you stick that many adolescences under one, albeit very large, roof. The stories can be hectic enough on their own, let alone with modern-day mortals studying to play the parts.
So at the request of Grimm's students, you can cram your "once upon a time" and "happily ever after." They're getting all of those they can take. The middle of fairytales always involves a struggle or turmoil, and in this fairytale, they're about to be schooled.
