Title: Looking For Adventure
Description: a.k.a i want to try some thing new.

bumble_ - June 29, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
Genre: historical, fantasy, sci-fi are preffered, but I'll look at anything (except star wars and aniaml rps)
Difficulty: Intermediate-Advanced
Type(s) of Creature(s): humans/anything except animals. I'd like the option of being a human.
Preferred Rating: anything
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: I don't care about the number of members, but activity = love of my life. If it's a new site low activity is fine.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Any.

Other Notes:

I really havn't done much fantansy/sci-fi stuff, so don't expect me to be super, duper amazingly great if it's something I've never done before.

School/HP roleplays are what I'm trying to get away from.... but I will look at them.

Nice admins are a MUST. Nice members would be great too. Since I'm going out on a limb here and trying something new, I might need some help or have questions to be answered.

No Twilight. I havn't read the books.

My dream come true rp: a political one. like a UN thing or a congress thing or anything political. even in a made up place. if you have one please, please, please tell me. I will love you forever. but not in a creepy way. I won't be hanging out outside your house, or anything.

Normally I pay more attention to spelling/grammer/capitalization etc... so don't think that just because I've been lazy with this post that I'll be lazy in general.

SmathNa - June 29, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
Politics? Yes! Active? Very, very. Nice? That's what I hear. :p Yes, we're rigorous, but never cripplingly so, and while we like good writing, we aren't elitist.

We don't have a U.N. (with the way the real UN's going, who would want--never mind! ;) ); we do have room for political higherups. The site plot's a little complicated, but boils down to: serf rebellion, some mercenaries, war, a few romances, drug dealers, etc.

We're medieval fantasy, loosely, but no magic or nonhumans.

Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to PM or IM me (I love to help prospective or new members find a place and plot--so do all of my lovely members--I let them add to the 'canon' list). Good luck with your search. Here's our official ad.

Knights and Barbarians, Shamans and Soldiers, Warriors and Priests, Ladies and Whores...

Not enough? We've got more--many of them dependent on your imagination. If you're creative, a good writer, and willing to try something new--this is the site for you.

So just sit back, buckle in, and Prepare for War...

The Baskar call the pale-faced strangers interlopers. They call themselves Thiasans. And they're out to crush the so-called barbarian opposition once and for all in what promises to be a long and bloody war. Barbarians? Just because their warlords marry their own sisters and they worship the sun as a God? The Baskar hardly think so. No, it's the Thiasans who must be conquered, with their castles and manor-houses, their arrogant King and brutal soldiers... their cannons and iron swords...

Come to think of it, the Baskar wouldn't mind getting ahold of some of those superior weapons... illegal arms traders, you say? It doesn't hurt that some of the Baskar are willing to trade a plant called datura--a potent hallucinogen--in return.

Then there's the plot to kidnap and sacrifice the Thiasan King to appease the Baskari Sungod...

...a prospective Queen so ugly she's thrown the country into an uproar...

...and no heir to be seen, apart from the weak and diffident Prince Fergus, the King's younger brother.

Let's face it, we're in trouble.

Welcome to Thiasa.

And for those who've read this much of the ad, some Site Trivia:

-We've won RPG-D's Forum of the Week award--a fairly big deal, apparently.
-We have an amazing new feature, auxiliary characters.
-We had 30 members within a week of opening, and we're still growing (we now have over 100).
-We encourage original characters, as long as they fit into our world.
-We also have so-called 'canon' characters, mostly ones connected to characters we're already playing, and generally very broadly described--often, we won't even assign them a specific age.
-We never require that you use a certain play-by.
-'Thiasa' comes from a Greek word. Ten points if you get the reference.
-Thiasan culture is based on Medieval Italy and France, and Baskari culture is based on the Sioux and the Aztec. Animal spirits and human sacrifice--where can you go wrong?
-A bored college student made up most of the site information. It took longer to compile the information on the Baskar than it took her to write a term paper on the philosophy of consciousness.
-Our cbox is unfiltered. That's right, you can curse in it.
-Come on, you know you want to join now.

200 years have passed since the immortals were sealed away. In the generations to follow, they exist only in tales to amuse the children of kingdoms such as Tortall. The country's capital, Corus, is filled with citizens from all walks of life, each living, from day to day, as well as they can manage - some more legally than others.

The palace is abuzz. Not only has one of the Conté princesses become betrothed, but her Carthaki fiancé has come to Corus – for all that the wedding is half a decade away. With him have come banquets, balls, a tournament, and scores of newcomers, from courtiers to slaves. Not all of the visitors, however, have arrived to wish the couple well; any good spy knows the best time to move in.

Too, mages bring bad news. Suggestions of a poor harvest come autumn leaves city residents unsure which would be worse: higher taxes in order to pay for food imports, or a winter starvation. With such uncertainty in the air, many have begun to turn to the Court of the Rogue for help – but at the moment, the Rogue isn’t the happiest of places, either.

Outwardly, the country is at peace. Inwardly, though, old prejudices die hard. While the war with the Yamani Islands has since ended, the Yamani who make their home in Corus still face residual bitterness, making a hard life even harder. Word of skirmishes along Tortall’s southern border reaching the streets has the potential to create another public enemy, Mithros slay any resident who suggests the true enemy might lie within the city’s walls.

In a place such as this, everything can change at a moment’s notice, and never shall any day be ordinary in
CORUS

We've only just opened last night so activity is not high yet. But we'd be glad to have you. ^^

Twenty five years ago Amana was becoming a truly dark place. Aelin Telimar was only a small push away from plummeting the nation into a war that would tear her apart. Only two very special beings, from Aelin's own future, could stop him. And it was for that reason that Jackline and Connor Telimar defied magical law and traveled through time to when they were only infants.

Once they had the people of Amana on their side, things were easy, and fairly quick to end. The twins, yes Jackline and Connor were in truth the children of Aelin, fought their father, with a little help, and managed to stop him. They believed they had killed him. And they might have if not for their little sister,Jocelyn Elanis, who was totally devoted to the man she considered her father.

Jocelyn used every bit of strength in her to defend her father, mostly without her siblings knowledge, and did succeed in saving his life. She hid him deep in the heart of Barena, for though he was alive, at the time he was very weak from the battle. But over the years since, he is regaining his old strength.

The time is coming closer. Will the darkness that the twins worked so hard to prevent return? Or will they be able to stop their father once and for all this time? Will Amana return to darker times?

Have a look at us too. We started in Rent fandom, post canon, but in the past two years, we've developed into an RL game based in New York which happens to have the canons from that fandom running about. . . You don't need to know a thing about the musical or the movie, since the characters are just characters, nothing more. We're grown up, decent writers, and friendly as can be. Have a look. The banner in my sig's the link.

QUOTE
You're living in America at the end of the millennia. . . and you're not alone.
Alphabet City
We're in the year 1996 and the colorful residents of the East Village in Manhattan are facing the issues which challenge poor Bohemian artists in the mid-90s. Drug abuse, HIV, prostitution, starvation, death, life, and love. However, they find that they aren't alone, friends are all around, and there is always coffee to be drunk, issues to be discussed, and art to be created, good and otherwise. Come join our cast of canon and original characters, featuring a strong sense of community and creativity and find that you're not alone either.
Other notes:Based on the Broadway musical RENT, set post-canon, though slightly AU to keep Angel alive. We have evolved and changed over the past two years from a fandom RP to a RL RP with some fandom characters.  We are lucky to have a great group of OCs who are keeping the plot moving and changing quickly, and we always welcome new writers and OCs with open arms.
We also have a brand new board!  It's pretty and blue and still has that new board smell!!  Come see.  It's pwetty!!!

MelioraAdmin - June 29, 2008 12:36 AM (GMT)
Meliora's basically a classic fantasy RP. It's not technically new, but it underwent a major overhaul over a month ago, so it's only got just over a dozen members. You'll notice that we're all a very friendly bunch though. I'm the ridiculously friendly ring leader, so if you have any questions, send 'em my way and I'll gladly answer them.

We're currently brainstorming about a rebellion plot that might interest you because it revolves around Meliora's government (you seem to have an interest in political conflicts). Also, there are partially pre-made characters from the royal family that have a nifty little plot of their own. All of the royal family members are up for grabs, so you can certainly apply for one of them.

. . .There Are Many Paths to Tread. . .
In a land governed by royalty and divinity, how will you choose to live? Will you devote your life to your deity, serving them as a priest or priestess? Will you live independently, giving up the protection of the divine? Will you reside within one of the cities of the eight under the watchful eyes of the god you trust? Are you one of the extraordinary who can earn the right to share in the powers of the gods as a mage? There are many choices to be made, for in Meliora, all things are possible.

. . .The Power of the Eight. . .

Long ago there was a battle with the mighty Leviathon that changed Meliora forever. The greatest mages of this time joined their power to destroy the Leviathon, but paid a great price. They perished. Their power was lost, but the land was restored. Years later, individuals from across the land began displaying powers greater than those of the mages that restored Meliora. They became the eight deities of fire, water, earth, air, day, night, time and fate. Since then, some deities have come and gone, but the spirits of nature have chosen others to rise in their places. The Eight are the most powerful beings in Meliora. Your fate is in their hands.

. . . Nothing Lasts Forever. . .

Meliora has prospered for many years, but all good things must come to an end. The Leviathon proved that tragedy can strike when it is least expected. It is only a matter of time before peaceful Meliora is, once again, shaken to the core. Will you be the change you wish to see, or will you step back and watch as others control your destiny? Even the smallest person can change the course of the world. Every soul counts.

Join us and find your way. . .
Meliora

Las Vegas is where anything goes, and everything stays. All the secret affairs, gambling, it's where people go for time to just have 'fun'. But then, there's always cheaters to this system and sometimes, it's not always fun for everyone else.

Casino: Fatale is a Literate To Advanced roleplay forum about transparant societies underneath all the lights, and the fancy colors that Las Vegas holds. Two teams, FALCON, and RAVEN, oppose each other in pure hatred for one another, or at least, their leaders due to beliefs about the way things should be run. Main mission? To destroy one's organization before the other destroys yours. Some may think it's simple, and each group puts the main goal as 'Protecting Vegas'.

But there's more to the story than a simple fight and protect scenario. It goes into a deep history between the leaders of each team, and the original goal that both teams shared. Differences create enemies, and now you must decide on where your loyalties lie. And is what you're fighting for truely noble?

What if one day you awoke but could not move? You tried to move, talk, smell, taste...but all in vein. There is only consciousness... and you are not alone. Suddenly your body moves, but it feels foreign, not of your will. You try to scream, but your lips are still. You can only exist, only watch from this prison as your life is lived by someone, something else... someone who was implanted and from which there is no escape.

Once upon a time, in a land much like our own but in a world much farther away, there was a woman, who fell in love with a man…and ultimately destroyed her country. Now she never meant to do so, it just happened. But her actions would ultimately lead her to an unknown land and headlong into an unexpected adventure that would occur thousands of years later.

However, before that adventure could take place, one more had to be fulfilled.

In the land of Alesia on the world of Eldora there resides five countries, Palador, Enyar, Revilo, Sutak and Almenia. They existed beside each other, but not with each other. One day, the King of Almenia decided that he deserved more than his people were given by the Goddess of Creation and so began to wage war upon his Paladorain neighbors. His reasoning was quite simple, because the nation was ruled by a queen, it would be the easiest to overthrow. However, Queen Echo was not so easy to push over and, in a surprising show of confidence and excellent diplomacy, she united the four countries of Alesia and defeated the Almenian King.

The Goddess of Creation, Ceres, grew so incensed with the Almenians that she cursed the land and locked it away so that others would think twice before upsetting the balance of peace. The small nation faded from memory and became a legend among legends in all four countries.

For the last several centuries peace has reigned in the lands of Alesia...but that’s all about to change.

What had once been a peaceful land is beginning to grumble in dissent. Though there are no rumors of war, each country finds itself plagued with its own problems. The tension is high between Enyar and Palador with the impending marriage of Queen Melora and Prince Cleante, and a missing prince causes more trouble than wanted. The tribes of Sutak are squabbling among themselves, and Revilo is wrapped up in problems of its own making. And now that the four countries of Alesia have fallen into petty self-dissent, an ancient threat is swiftly and silently gaining power.

Will Alesia succumb to darkness or will hope shine through? A new journey awaits you.

lol I know you said you're trying to get away from School RPGs, but my site just opened. We're taking cannons and originals, so you might want to look at it. A small town located in Tree Hill, NC, is anything but ordinary.

One man, Dan Scott, has two sons, but only claims one.

Lucas Scott is the beloved, arrogant, captain of the Tree Hil Ravens basketball team. His mother, Karen, married Dan shortly after Lucas was born. Dan gives Lucas anything and everything he wants, but they don't have a good relationship. Dan pushed Lucas into playing basketball and now pushes him to become the best. Maybe basketball isn't what Lucas wants to do with is life. {{Chad Michael Murray}}

Nathan Scott is the younger, half brother, disowned son. His mother, Deb Lee, owns a small cafe named Deb's Diner in town. They don't have nearly as much money as Dan does but they like it that way. Nathan lives for the game of basketball, he loves everything about it and is sure he wants to make a career of it. Dan has nothing to do with Nathan or his mother; and has convinced Lucas to hate them, too. {{James Lafferty}}

Brooke Davis is captain of the cheerleaders and all around Party Girl. She loves to stir up a little drama and cause a little chaos. She doesn't think about the future, she's the type to live for the moment, which sometimes gets her into trouble. While she has a bad-girl reputation, she's a loyal friend. Brooke would do anything to see her friends happy and she has a vulnerable side but doesn't like to let it show. {{Sophia Bush}}

Peyton Sawyer is best friend to Brooke and girlfriend to Lucas. Her mother died when she ten years old and she has a hard time dealing it. She deals with her emotions by sketching all kinds of artwork that she hangs in her room. Her father works out at sea so she basically lives alone. Peyton isn't the type who likes being alone, which is why she stays with Lucas. She hates his new attitude but tries to make it work. She's known for her punk rock attitude and style, as well as her sarcasm. {{Hilarie Burton}}

Haley James is best friend to Nathan Scott and a good friend to Peyton. She can't stand Lucas or Brooke and they know it. She's the youngest of eight kids and the only one trying to make something of herself. She's a tutor at the highschool and a waitress at Deb's Diner. Everyone assums she and Nathan are a couple but they're not. She's known for her belief on only falling in love one time but she's also a realist. She's not afraid to stand up for herself. Wants to be a singer, but she's scared to sing in front of anyone.{{Bethany Joy Galeotti}}

Jake Jageilski is the mystery boy. He's on the basketball team, as well and a good friend to Lucas. He's not afraid to step up and let Lucas know when his attitude is going too far. He seems to be the perfect guy in most eyes around the town, but Jake has a secret that no one knows. He has a six month old daughter, Jenny. Her mother, Nikki, left one day and never came back, so while juggling a job, school, and the team, he's also a full-time dad. Jake is the guy who is friends with everyone. {{Bryan Greenberg}}

Other Cannons

Felix Tagarro has a strict "friends with benefits" rule with the girls he likes. He's had his heart broken before and is scared to get close to anyone. He's a lot like Brooke, always stirring up any kind of trouble he can. {{Michael Copon}}

Anna Tagarro
sister to Felix. She's bisexual and a good, close friend to Peyton and Lucas. She's the only one who Lucas can be his real self with. She used to attend an All-Girls School but once the rumors started about her having relationships with another girl, her family moved to Tree Hill. Felix is protective over her but can't forgive her for causing them to move again. No one except Peyton knows that she's bisexual. {{Daniella Alonso}}

Chris Keller
arrogant, up and coming musician who works part-time at Max's Record Store. He's good and he knows he's good. He doesn't have many friends because he thinks they'll just hold him back. He's honest to the point of no one wants to hear what he says. {{Tyler Hilton}}

Chase Adams The good boy in town, part of the school club "Clean Teens" where he vows to stay a virgin until marriage. He had a long term relationship but it ended because he found out his girlfriend was cheating on him the whole time with his best friend. He's sweet and easy to get attached to. {{Steven Colletti}}

Rachel Gatina the fiesty red-head. A cheerleader who everyone loves. The boys want her and the girls want to be her. She's kind of like a Brooke clone because they're so alike. {{Danneel Harris}}

Anyone else from the show is welcome too! As well as originals, let's just get the main cannons filled up first.

``APHELIONREBIRTH

`This is such a quiet town
Aphelion used to be a small, peaceful town, isolated from society at the top of the Ben Nevis Hill in western Scotland, and average in all of its aspects - except for the fact it sheltered, just outside its limits, the government's pride and joy in terms of scientific advancements: The Aphelion Nuclear Plant. Even during its first trial stages, the people carried on their lives normal, living in certainty that nothing would ever go wrong and that they would be perfectly exactly where they were. The children played in the school grounds, neighbours exchanged dinner recipes and workers commuted to work every morning. However, soon the day came when the town's peace and quiet was disrupted, as the siren rang in the Nuclear Plant, announcing something had gone wrong. Horribly wrong.
`We can hear your neuroses
as they're creeping up your spine
As one of the blast furnaces unexpectedly exploded, there was absolute panic in town. A few of the citizens managed to escape, but the great majority of the population stayed behind, only to meet their death - if not a much more terrible fate. Several of the houses in town had underground shelters instead of a basement in case an accident happened at the Plant, though even so the people weren't safe. The town would forever bear the marks left behind by that day, as would generations to come.
`Through your neutral pathways,
it's not a pretty sound
The citizens struggled to re-build their lives in the best way possible, even managing to form families amidst that chaos. As the genetically modified children grew, some of them realized they were different from the other citizens, and thus, from the rest of the world, and they should be kept separated from them. A secret.
`It can still be okay
We can still be saved
Curious eyes of people from all over the world who come to visit the mysterious ghost-town are times spotted, though never again outside the town limits. While the internal struggle continues, some fight to break free and others enforce the policy that none should leave. Will you ally with them or will you be just another wandering eye in Aphelion?

Aeterna Roma, Eternal Rome....

With the fall of the republic of Rome came the era of Emperors. It was a time believed to be one purely of peace - Augustus had soothed a rebellion, and reformed the army of Rome, creating an unbeatable fighting force. For many years the Roman Empire expanded and became the most powerful force in all of the known world. Time past and so did the line of Emperors.

But something went wrong. A man by the name of Camillus Dexsius Julii was jealous of the move away from the original imperial line. Every day Vespasian grew in both popularity and power as a day spent by Camillus plotting his revenge soon, he had gathered up a small group of followers, which resulted in the assassination of Augustus.

Camillus immediately thought he would be the rightful heir to Augustus, but their was someone he didn't take into account; A man by the name of Manius Sabucius. He was the close friend and eldest step-son of Augustus. He was the one to rise to the newly opened position of power. Camillus was positively furious barely managing to keep his true intentions hidden from the ever watchful eyes of the imperial family.

With the new Emperor; Manius in control, will Camillus be able to successfully befriend him? Will he dethrone him like Augustus? And what of the Empire's borders? With Rome under the constant attack by the Barbarians, will Manius Sabucius avoid assassination? And can he keep those horrid barbarians out of Roman Territory?

Someone calling for Sci-Fi, well I got Sci-Fi, I gots Firefly ^_^ (wow that was a nice little rhyme lol)! We are new (just opened last week) but we're really active already (last two days not because some members were a bit busy), but I'm always on, every day. Anyways, I hope you've heard of Firefly, if not well Firefly is a spacewestern in the realest sense of the word. Our focus lies on the hard lives on the border and frontier planets (just like back in the old wild west). We have a few different options where character can be located (we've got two ships and a small town on a frontier planet). If you've never heard of Firefly or never really seen the show/movie (serenity) don't worry, all the info you need to know is onboard! Well without further ado, our ad:

Early 21st century, Earth had finally grown beyond its limits and exhausted its resources. Mankind reached for the stars and found themselves a new solar system, with dozens of planets and hundreds of moons. Each one eventually terraformed to sustain life, a process taking decades.

Early 26st century, life on the partially colonized outer planets resembles the lawlessness and desolation of the American Old West. While the core planets prospered and grew strong in their ideals under Alliance control. The Alliance, a formation between old America and China, wanted to get the outer planets under their control too. Independents refused these idealistic views and war broke out, known as the unification war.

Five long years later war ended with heavy casualties on both sides, more heavily so on the Independents side than the Alliance. Even more then before the outer worlds were impoverished and crime ridden.

The year is now late 2519, and in the quest to seek out the perfect civilization the Alliance began experimenting to create the perfect society in taming aggressive behaviour. But it backfired resulting in millions of innocent lives that were lost and the birth of a new people, Reavers, malicious and cannibalistic people. Alliance tried to cover everything up.

Mid 2519 word got out, the last recorded message of a scientist was broadcasted across the Verse. The secret revolting and rebellion spread across the stars once more. The Alliance denied the reports at first but eventually embraced the idea and regarded it as a necessary loss. Others thought differently.

The Alliance this time is on the guard, trying to stop any uprising of those who step out of their control and challenge them. The 'Miranda' project, as they called it, has become their battle cry. It has been seared into their brain as lost loved ones made their sacrifices on that forgotten planet.

Its a playing ground; how will you play it ?

An active & original Firefly Verse RPG! Set after the Serenity movie in late 2519. Explore life on the Rim or join up on a ship, anything is possible on ’Out In The Black’

    Welcome to Myridia.

Welcome to a small, flourishing metropolis of diverse cultures and knowledge. Welcome to a country of fascinating characters, magic, and wonder. Welcome to a world so familiar, and yet so different. Myridia is a land pressed between two powerful empires. It is a land struggling to survive under the gaze of giants, but had persevered for decades. Its magically gifted population gives it a powerful edge, as well as its strategic geographical position.

    But tides often change…

It is only a matter of time before one of the empires tries to take Myridia as just another prize in their war chest. It is only a matter of time before an empire brings blood and war to Myridia’s gates. This has caused tensions to stir uneasily amongst the proud people of Myridia. They begin to debate on their nation’s next move, with some calling out to submit to either of the greater territories.

Yet the pride of independence rings strong in many of the citizens; whether it be for tradition, for belief, or for pure ignorance.

But intrigue also churns within Myridia’s borders. With an active governance system in which political factions rule, the clashes within Myridia are often more fiery than those outside its borders. Everyone has a say, and political disagreement can often be dangerous, risky, and precarious. Factions fight for dominance, and the ever present guardianship of The Council looms silently.

A land built upon the ambitions, heartache, and passion of its people, Myridia is a place where the smallest of tales can have the most powerful of consequences.

In a land in which all factions have a say, a single voice might just make the difference.

    Will it be yours?
Betrayal. Intrigue. Deception.
M.Y.R.I.D.I.A

Come join us at Myridia! We’ve got an original, exciting plot going, and have many canon position still available-- although original characters are more than welcome. We are a vibrant, active community of role-players, and we’re a great place to indulge in smaller, more personalized character plots.

Keijukainen - June 29, 2008 11:18 AM (GMT)
AG is a PotC-themed RP, but many liberties have been taken with the movie plots. We lean more heavily toward being a historical board with slight fantasy elements than we tend to the PotC fandom. Our time period is roughly around the 1750s, give or take a few years. There is a certain element of politics involved in current plots as Port Royal has just undergone a change of military leadership, which has created a large opening for interesting characters to exploit the residual chaos.

In short, there's a lot of opening for plot, especially if it's political.

There is a ShoutBox at the bottom of the main page if you have any questions.

After the Curse of the Black Pearl, nothing is set in stone, the plot and what can happen is as fluid and ever changing as the sea. And as harsh and un-tameable as a sea goddess who may yet be restored...

It's very close to being a fairytale. Someone wants a certain race to take over the world, powerful and seemingly unbeatable. It's impossible to locate who's supporters of who and who. Death is suddenly similar to dominoes... but this isn't a game. All the more it isn't a fairytale. It's a fire, with matches thrown in by Voldemort.

He wants to kill the half bloods and muggle-borns, they whisper. It's either dread or delight that accompany those whispers in the hallways of Hogwarts and the streets of London. Voldemort. Suddenly his name sends shivers down the spines of the wizarding community. When you suddenly become sure that nothing can get worse, the Minister is said to have been his puppet. The Minister's choice was to either help out the wizarding world and probably die, or become hated and live. His choice was both unwise, and unhelpful. The diplomats the Minister sent out to deal with Voldemort perished.

Voldemort's here. The Minister's denial led to his death.

Then... It's all a lie, claim Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Voldemort showed that he was there, he was in the flesh. At school, it's either you seek the path less willingly taken to Voldemort, or you follow the other path... in most cases, the correct one. It is your choice to believe the Ministry, or Voldemort. So this is what it's like to be right smack in the middle of a war.

The wars goes on, and all the kids can say is WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE.

Here's two suggestions for you. One is sort of based on A Series of Unfortunate Events, but it's set appx. 20 years before the books actually take place, so you don't need to know anything about the books or the movie to join. The second is fairy-tale based, but not the average sort.

the world is quiet here

VFD stands for many, many things, but the most common is
the Volunteer Fire Department. Originally VFD was started to
put out all those pesky fires (metaphorically and literally)
that acidentally happened to start, but as of late, it has been
thrown into a schism and some of its members have begun
starting fires (metaphorically and literally) instead of stopping
them. Both sides are after the sugar bowl, which contains
something very important, although that's top secret
information that very, very few people know about. Will the
Volunteers be able to keep the world quiet? Or will the
villains wreak havoc on the world?

Remember the time when you read books for fun? Remember when you actually learned from them? Remember the characters you loved so much?

Well, now you need to remember… for now they’ve been destroyed. Hope is not entirely lost, however; a young librarian created another world for these characters to live in safely. Here, these characters meet and live without any knowing of the world they were forced out of.

The young and those that believe in knowledge and stories can make it into the other world, though, to become a part of these lovely stories. It’s all a matter of whether or not they can find the right portal; it could be the refrigerator, the closet, anything… as long as you have your heart set on

Would some Gothic historical stuff interest you? Set in the mid-1800s, in Paris. Though canon knowledge is not mandatory, we are based around three musicals. (Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, and Sweeney Todd)

Venture into a world of musical obscurity...

------user posted image------user posted image------user posted image------

...shadows decorate every corner, and line the faces of passer-bys. There have recently been a large handful of missing persons reports, leading the authorities to be especially watchful of criminal activity. The citizens of Paris brush this matter under their hats however. There are far more important things to think about. Such as the upcoming Masquerade ball at the Opéra Garnier...

Who will you be? The timid chorus girl, who enjoys tea and cakes on Sundays...The gloomy politician, who watches Paris go by from his penthouse window...The pragmatic barkeep who sees his patrons drink their cares away through hazy green bottles...Or another mysterious face who appears in the crowd among hundreds, with secret desires and talents yet to be extricated?

RoM is fantasy/medieval, but we most certainly don't mind answering any questions that you have. I am not the admin of the site, so I can tell you for sure that our admins are all really, really nice people who will be more than willing to help you out in any way they can. The same is also true for the members. If you're looking around and are confused about anything, just ask in the c-box. Everyone online will be more than happy to help you. Come to that, you're more than free to PM me here if you'd like any help :green:.

Although RoM isn't a political rp, I personally find the dynamics of the tensions between Noresh and Noctis as being pretty interesting, seeing as how it's not the normal "I'm light and you're dark so let's kill each other!" sort of thing, but is instead in a delicate peace. There's certainly potential to do something with that.

Let me know what you think!

Fantasy is Reality . . .

Enter into a world divided.

With the fall of the Guilds, the Realm of Mystery descended into chaos, out of which rose two factions.

Noresh, place of life, preaches truth, justice, and honor.
Noctis, land of dark, tempts with the night’s honeyed poison.

Repelling and attracting, their dance is a delicate balance upon which the fate of the world rests. After all, there could not be night without day, or day without night . . .
. . . could there?

Yet now an even greater threat looms, and the two are caught in a shifty alliance that could fall apart with a single wrong move. Wanderers, unbound by pledges to either side, pursue their own agendas or seek to create their own power base. Others choose to unite with one of the two factions and test their worth from within. The promise to all beings has always been freewill, and the choice can be made only by you.

The Realm of Mystery is a freeform rpg where characters are the ones who create—or destroy—their world. Join Noctis, join Noresh, or set out on your own. Rise through the ranks or become the subtle shadow behind the throne. Throw havoc or negotiate peace—make friends or enemies—control magic or become a master of fighting—be a leader or a follower—blur the lines of reality to suit your needs. Create your character . . . . Create your destiny . . . . Create your world.

As an advanced roleplaying site, a "sample post" application is required to join. Once accepted, you will find active, supportive members who are helpful out of character and skilled roleplayers in character. Very few other sites are as long-running and creative as the Realm of Mystery, and nowhere else have individual members had the power to change and alter their world as they have on RoM. Join us, and learn the true meaning of magic.

1. an ideal place or state.
2. place that does not exist.

2012. The world is a fetid place. Pollution has caused men and women to become incapable of reproducing. Earth has evolved into a pig-pen for crooks, frauds, murderers, and hungry capitalists without the sound of childrens’ laughter. Although the adults that are left can credit technology to living a longer, healthier life, human population all over the globe cannot sustain itself due to a zero percentage birth-rate in every country. The green planet has become a fiercely dog-eat-dog world, and all hope is diminished.

Please, please
Give me a re-mix

The Beginning
A group of desperate scientists make a discovery twenty years later, a human fetus that is strong enough to survive. Despite mutations and errors in the process, the scientists kept going with their experimentation and when she was nine months old they discovered that she had powers beyond any normal human. Her powers seemed to correlate with her spider-like appearance, but the WDBCC were delighted: they had an idea. They devised a plan to make more of these mutated children to use them for their own advantages. With a whole army of mutants on their side there would be no limits to what they could accomplish, or control.

Not the End
A year after the "birth" of the "spider-child", something rare took place in Scotland. A small town had a pregnant woman inhabiting their community. She had a baby boy, soon named by the awed villagers as "Angeles". He has unexplainable powers that many believe is a gift from a merciful divinity. Almost fifty years later, and the boy is well past childhood. A new city has grown around the school that he established for gifted children like himself and has been known as a safe haven for individuals looking for a better life. This is Evalesco.

The Rise of the Mafia
Soon, a new group mushrooms up and wants a piece of the profit that the scientists are making. Consisting of gifted and civilians alike, they make an ultimatum with the WDBCC. By making their own profits, the third party grows stronger than ever, but they secretly remain neutral to the world and the scientists.

Your Turn
Now it is up to the people to make their own decisions. All three classes are united with one dream: an invincible Utopia. But will a dream be enough to stop a war that could wipe out those who remain?

The great Emperor Darius Caelius of Rome was just half a season into his treaty with Egypt, another great empire. Darius Caelius signed a treaty with Amoniah Minkah, the young and brave pharaoh of Egypt, to establish a trade policy with each other, in terms to bring peace. Together, they were friends with each other, outside the palaces and in private.

From the phoenix’s ashes rises a great ball of Flame,
This Flame shall engulfed the land, killing the greens of the earth
Wither aren’t thou Holder of the Flame, like greens at thy feet.
The Flame shall boil the seas and boil thy blood of the Holder.

But Darius Caelius wanted more peace throughout the known world. Be as he was a strong warrior in court and in battle, what he thrive for was peace. The only large obstacle in his way to obtain it was the stubborn and arrogant emperor of Greece, Alexius Damianos. Trouble as he was, Darius beseech an audience with him. Before that audience could come he was murdered.

Emperor Darius Caelius of Rome was murdered! Yes, murdered of most foul proportions!

From darkness comes not but more night but sun
Sun shall over come the Flame and become the Holder.
Thy peace be at ruin and boil at peace
Know not of the greens and the seas ashes

Darius Caelius of Rome lies in ashes as his soul is carried over to the afterlife, taken care by the gods. It was a sad day when he was struck down so quickly. Poison found in his evening glass of wine as his cold hands gripped tightly around the stem of the goblet.

Now with his passing, his eldest son, Erebus Caelius now rules Rome. A man with no known heir, only with his only mistress beautiful and manipulative at his side, takes the crown of Rome. His brother, the next heir to the throne, is a trouble maker for the family. Everyone fears that his humor of a man will break the treaty for acting out of turn.

By gods of the Flame’s gods and by The Holder’s gods and by the Sun’s gods
Be without tribulations and no true trials
For will bring doom and upon the dried up land and boiling waters.
By unity could bring thy doom if seas are not rested and ground not greener

At Darius Caelius’ burial, a prophecy was made of the future. From this prophecy, people fear the future of their world, as it interpreted in many ways from the evilest of evils to the blessing of the gods. No one knows for sure but some people follow it.
In has been two summers since the passing of the great and once powerful Darius Caelius’ death and the prophecy. There have been rumors through the land that is a secret organization that mean to bring down the peace between Rome and Egypt. The only know means of this group are that they go by the name Constantia Et Virtute or, by firmness and courage. But will they bring down the peace between them?

But from the phoenix’s ashes rises but another phoenix, darker then the first.
Dark phoenix soars and takes hold of the Flame, thy Holder, and thy Sun’s gods.
Power into the dark phoenix’s heart know no bounds but trials and tribulations.
Beseech they light and pray to the elder phoenix’s ashes.

But for all those that are faithful to the emperor and to the gods, they are called Semper Fidelis.

Be always faithful.

While we are not a Real World Political RPG, I would like to say that one of our main themes is political interaction. We have rulers of various 'countries' that interact, and almost always, the main antagonist is a political player. And if something we don't have on the boards suits you, I am sure we can make something that works better. I think we have a few places that are looking for heads of various councils.

In the mists of time, long before Saetan was called to make his legend in the realms, wearing the darkest of jewels, the Black. Long before he used that power to rub the entire territory of Zuulman out of existence. Long before the coming of the most powerful witch to walk the realms. The dark weaving of Mother Night calls you from the comfort of the Darkness to bring you forth into a world of light and conflict.

In the glaring Light you see edges and differences that had no meaning in the Darkness, differences in race and social status, leading to conflict with ones self, your neighbors, sometimes all the world. You have been born into a world where violent emotions of hate, fear, jealousy and anger, especially anger, can erupt for the smallest offense.

You are Blood. Mother Night has given you more, a caste and the ability to wear a jewel. Your caste and jewel are yet more means to differentiate you from your peers and bring more hate, jealousy and delicious anger. Yes delicious anger, for your jewel can channel your anger into power, power to strike your enemies and power to frighten your friends. It is indiscriminate, cold, and dark, the darker the more powerful and frightening.

Simply by being Blood you are dangerous to all around you, everyone sensitive to the chill in the air that announces one of the Blood tapping into the dark depths of their jewel. It is the calm, cold, still moment before all that anger and dark power erupts upon the world in dark violence destroying all that are not protected by the power of an even darker jewel. There is no jewel darker than the Black. When Blood wearing Black go cold all you can do is summon your courage. There is no place you can run to, no one to whom you can pray. You have to summon the courage to take the anger that fuels the Black away, to lead the Blood gone cold from the killing edge.

It can't be all anger, hate and conflict that the Light offers, for Mother Night could not be so cruel to call you to a world so harsh as to offer only pain. The jewels gifted to the blood respond to, enhance and violently manifest all emotions not just the destructive ones. Blood will sing to Blood, jewels will sing to jewels, lords will sing to witches and Princes will sing to Queens, the darker the Blood and the jewels the more violent the passion and the more beautiful the song.

What will be your song? Will be a song of pain full of the wild notes of war, conflict and death? Will it be a song of celebration strong enough to stir the ancient hearts of the dragons still rumored to live in the realms, thanking them for the gifts they bestowed to the Blood? Will it be a song of sorrow, a keening howl or mournful dirge, deep and dark enough to blunt the edges and ease the anger? Will your song call to all the Blood of the ages resonant with a violent joyful power, transformative to all it touches and born from the deepest love?

Somewhere a weaver of dark webs calls the silken strands of joy, pain, sorrow and celebration left in your passing and the passing of all the Blood. Black strands of the darkest power fitted one to the other into the darkest web, forming the shape of a dream, and one day that dream will be made flesh, calling Witch to the realms.

Welcome into the world. Welcome to the Darkest Web.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Darkest Web is a mature, advanced role-playing board based off of Anne Bishop’s Black Jewel Trilogy. In a time of blood and tribulation, we are forging our own tales about the men and women that make up the Blood Race. Romance, war, and scandals fill up the pages of our book as we tell the stories of those that could become legends. The Darkest Web has been an active board for two years now, and we plan on being around for many more to come. We have wonderful administration team and very active players. We are always looking for new players and new ideas. We would love to have you.

Most people tend to tread around certain people in their neighbourhoods, not living too closely with each other. Other’s couldn’t give a damn and will live with whoever they have to for things to run smoothly.

In a city as big as New York, you can imagine how high the crime rates should be; but in one certain parts of the city, they seem to be lowering dramatically. Is that because of the amazing police work being carried out? Or are people just too afraid to report a crime nowadays?

Rumour has it that there are a few in this small part of Manhattan who live above the law; and have many members of the police along with other civil servants, prosecutors, judges, jurors on their payroll.

Not everyone takes too kindly to the cash handouts from these petty crooks, and choose to deliver the police work that they swore to in the very beginning. Once they swear to uphold to law by any means necessary, they tend to stick to it. However tempting the gifts from the lowlifes of this city may be, they keep out of it and do the work which is expected of them

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away on an island far far away, there existed life. Not your usually fairytale beginning? No, I suppose it isn’t, but this isn’t your usual fairytale, particularly because it’s more of a story. This is life on a  Caribbean island, in the seventeenth century. This is the life of the upper class, middle class, and lower class society. This is the life of an indentured servant. This is the life of a pirate. This is St. Kitts.

In this world only one this is certain: appearances may be deceiving. The beggar man on the street corner is really a pirate, the couple by the bay have a terrible secret, the Governor himself has a past to hide. Everyone has a secret, just as everyone has a past. Is everything really as peachy as it seems? Or is it all just Roses && Thorns?

It all began in 1692. There was so much death and destruction that families were torn apart, and neighbors became suspicious of each other. Many began to see the ruin humans could cause and fled the countries and cities of their youth in search of haven elsewhere. Some found their way to St. Anthony’s Island and the town of Little Salem.

Those who were considered mythical beings joined together for protection and survival and so began the Treaty of Three, a treaty designed to protect the humans as well as the vampires, the werewolves and the witches.

The rules were simple enough: no harm was to come to any human; no human should ever learn the existence of these groups; and no member of the treaty was to purposely hurt another member of the treaty. Any violation of these rules meant death for all those involved.

Well, strange humans with the hell-bent intention of making myths extinct have begun arriving on the island. A vampire belonging to the more peaceful of the bloodsuckers’ families has been murdered, and found alongside an innocent human. And the Treaty has been broken by the ‘child’ of one of its original creators.

A war has been brewing beneath the guise of peaceful efforts, and things are about to explode. You’re not going to want to miss the next boat to

Sparkling Lake

The main species are wolfs, humans, horses and big cats but you can ask to be a different animal if you want to be one.

Humans first came to the Sparkling Lake area through the Death Valley, one of the predator territories.

The humans settled in the Death Valley, which didn't have a name then. They would hunt the animals, killing them for their meat, pelts, furs, and coats, along with their teeth, ect.

Anyways, the animals got tired of the humans being able to kill them so easily. So, they banded together to form a huge alliance. Every creature- wolves, cats, deer, along with the other creatures of the forest. They attacked the humans one night, catching them off guard.

The animals won, of course, but not without losing a significant part of their population.

The animals named this place 'Death Valley', very accurately. Some humans got away, but not most. The animals decided to find a place where they could be friends, a place where predator and prey could get along without fearing being killed by one another. And so, this is how Sparkling Lake came into view. They decided Sparkling Lake would be the place of peace, friendship among the species. That is why no human or predator can hunt in the Sparkling Lake area.

You'd mentioned you were willing to look at HP rps so I thought I'd throw ours out there. We are definitely a friendly and mature bunch and are more than happy to have new folks join our crew - and our mild craziness. We are an AU HP and, I too, like having a political spin on things and there's lots of room for getting into the political side of the rp.

So, I hope you'll stop by and take a look:

Everyone made mistakes, even he, Lord Voldemort, did. And, it had been a gross and, at times almost fatal mistake. The Seer's prophecy about the Potter boy had seemed so simple and straightforward and it had distracted Voldemort from the real threat to his rise to power. But, the truth was, there had been nothing special about the boy. Potter had never really been a real threat.

It should have been obvious. The real threat was and had always been Albus Dumbledore. It had been him that had denied Lord Voldemort the ability to return to Hogwarts those many years ago. It had been he that had hid the Potters. Dumbledore had been the one to put the protections on the Dursley house. If Dumbledore could be neutralized, surely any other hindrances could easily be handled.

The task was simple. Go back and eliminate the real threat before it could thwart him so readily in the years to follow. Eliminate the Dumbledore bloodline before it could meddle in the true fate of the wizarding world.

The world had been as it was when he'd retired that evening. But he went to sleep, trusting that the time turner had worked. The Death Eater had reached their destination and the mission would be completed successfull. When the Dark Lord had awoken the next day to a delightfully different world, he needed no reports to know that the mission had been successful. The Dumbledore's had been eliminated, their world had been claimed and no one seemed aware of this drastic change that had occurred to their world.

It was clear things had changed. England, and indeed the whole world, had woken to a whole new reality the next day. It was a world in which the Dark Lord’s Death Eaters had been in control since their first claim of power in the early 1970s. The muggle class served the superior wizarding class and the Dark Lord enjoyed supreme rule over Great Britain. With Grindelwald alive and in power in continental Europe, they were well on their way to a superior wizarding race.

Most people are unaware of the change in history and situation. For most of them, they just have the memories of the current version of history, those having overwritten any memories of an alternate reality. On occasion, small percentages of people may experience a strange flashback or dream or something else that hints that things may have been different. But, such flashbacks are fleeting and frequently written off as wishful thinking.

What is Fires At Midnight?

Our world takes place during the year 1997, when the main trio would be in their sixth year in the Harry Potter books of J.K. Rowling. In our world, in an attempt to secure his place of power, the Dark Lord sent one of his followers back in time to eliminate the Dumbledores before Albus and his siblings are born. In a world absent of Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald rises to power in continental Europe while, later, Lord Voldemort rises to power in England.

We welcome folks that are new to the HP world and RPGing in general. While the basic plot of this RP is based on the HP world, there have been many changes to the history, characters and Harry Potter universe. So, there is plenty of room for you to find your own storyline, even if you aren't caught up in the Harry Potter mania.

Why are we never quite satisfied with the way things are?

We yearn for other worlds. And maybe those other worlds yearn for us, too.

2010: A city is slowly and inconspicuously overrun by creatures of an unknown origin,
as our plane of existence begins to merge with their own. The veil between our worlds
is stretched dangerously thin - We can see their numberless forms stirring
behind the curtain... vague shadows that hover on our periphery,
flit through our reflections, burn their way into our subconscious.

The disturbances cannot be easily dismissed: The sounds of their world bleed
through to our radios, cell phones, alarm clocks.. Glimpses of their realm
become more common, seen through lenses or caught on film.
They even find their way into our dreams: Children especially
complain of nightmares, too startlingly similar to be coincidence.

The numbers of encounters grow, from the handfuls to the hundreds,
and soon they're more than just rumors and stories;
They're everywhere, and everyone
has witnessed something.

But who are they? What are they? And why are they here? Why now?

...are they really ghosts, as the media suggests?
Our ancestors returned to us, the dead drifting on beside the living?
Or are they something else, something altogether new?
Is it the End of Days, or a new beginning?

The only Truth is our uncertainty.

Speculation abounds, but our fears and questions
are united in the one fact that we can be sure of:

They Exist.

The Army: Five months ago, the British were driven from the Peninsula. They fought every step of the way, and their General was killed in battle. But now... now it is time to fight again. Not all the British left, however.

Sir Arthur Wellesley has recently arrived to take command of the small contingent left in Lisbon. Can he take them from defeat to victory?

The Navy: Five years ago, the British fleet defeated the French and Spanish in battle. They won a glorious victory at the cost of their Admiral's life. Britain gained control of the seas... or did she?

Rumours abound that the French are rebuilding their shattered fleet, ready to rise again. Will they succeed?

The French: The French are confident they can win. Their army is undefeated on land, save for minor skirmishes nine months ago. They are the best of the best. Their Emperor has returned to France, safe in the assurance that the British forces left pose no threat to his plans to take control of the entire Iberian Peninsula.

Soon, they will move south to strike at the Portuguese capital, knowing no one can stand in their way.

This is a world at war. From battles at sea to skirmishes on land to the secret fact-finding missions of spies of both sides, there is danger at every turn. There is friendship and camaraderie, too. But the clouds are gathering.

I think we fit your criteria. ^^
Intermediate/advanced, new-ish (we had a bad start, trying to revive it) with few members (bulk e-mailing the old ones so they can come back!)
We're fantasy-ish and based off of a series of books, but you don't have to have read them to join!

magicians rule london.
but the rise of a resistance might cut their rule short…

In a world much like our own, there has always been only one major difference: magic was, and is... present.

Throughout history, each great civilization has followed the same cycle: built up by all, taken over by magicians, brought down by the resistance, and then left to ruins. London, however, has had a different turn-out. It is the only magician-ruled society standing strong in present day, and by general appearances, it seems that this will never change. But then again, general appearances do lie...

Prague was once a great city, but, was too, ruled by magicians. Following the grand cycle of things, it was brought down by the resistance... and the years of peace that followed were quickly shattered by a new rise of civilization: London, ruled, again, by what the commoners despised: magicians. London, however, was not like Prague - it could not be quelled in one attempt. After many attacks, the resistance realized the perfectly obvious: they were not strong enough. They would have to gather, and train, and reconvene one day... and so they did. For three decades, London held an appearance of peace. But not for long. Peace, after all, never lasted.

And one day, the time to reconvene came. The resistance did what they had been planning to do for years: they attacked. On the same night, the Prime Minister, the 'King' of magicians, died, leaving his twenty-one year-old son to take his position. At the same time, in another country, the Emperor of the Egyptians was threatened by a strong, yet unknown force... and decided to travel to London with his family and a small group of trusted guards - under the guise of "trying to strengthen ties with his older allies." Mere hours later, the gypsies also arrived in London, unaware of the chaos that would soon ensue.

Now, it is summer. The days are longer, the nights are shorter. The merpeople are seen more frequently out of the waters of Europe. Their secret existence becomes ever more harder to hide.

On that fateful day, London's greatest tower and prison was breached. A quarter of criminals were released, on command of the resistance. The Prime Minister died. The Egyptian Embassy, following them the gypsies, arrived. London's government has only one option - to act like nothing happened. After all, with the gypsies' leaders now staying in their quarters... and with the Egyptian royalty lurking nearby... a secret is only a secret until it is told. Let the chaos ensue.

Nothing will stay pure for long. Nothing.

forget the uplifting line,
FOR WE ARE YOUNG AND FREE
they're taking everything we believed in.

They taught us to dream.
To believe in an equal society.
Werewolf among us.
Vampires beside us.
Together in peace.

Werrant Pierce is the most influential Minister that Magical Education has ever had.
And he's only had the job two months.
Imagine a man so stuffed full of the old prejudices in a position powerful enough to do something about it.
Imagine being a werewolf, a vampire, or any other 'creature' in what you thought was a safe world.
Imagine that world turning against you - again.

well may we say
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
because nothing will save Tallygarunga.

So throw away your hopes for a better life.
To survive, you have to play the right cards to the Ministry.
You can't be friends with the devils they hunt.
Shut your mouth and play the game.
They're watching us entirely too closely.

But Tallygarunga will not be beaten.
It will not back down.
It will not be silenced.
Tallygarunga will fight.
Whatever the cost.
