So yeah, as the title says I was wondering how a Samurai-themed board would do in terms of how popular one might be? Just before I ramble on: If there is a board like this do tell me, I just haven't seen any so I might consider making one.

It would be set in Japan but with no specific date, I think it is best if it is an alternate reality, makes for more creativity. Anyway people wouldn't 'have' to create samurai but to be honest that would be the main type of person someone will go. So there will be many clans that form alliances or wage war against other clans in order to rise in power. You could also play a gang of thugs if you wanted to, ninja/shinobi would also have their part as clans would hire them to take out important personnel or small groups of samurai. Now, my Japanese history is not good but I think it would be best if we allowed female samurai, if they actually existed that's fine, if not then oh well. If people do not want to play such roles then there can be travelers and merchants who come over for business etc. Since it is alternate reality I think there could be small groups from other countries who come to explore with soldiers which can let people play characters from other nations and allows for some nice action. Like the British Empire or something... Important roles like the Shogun, generals and the like will most likely be canons created for the board.

I love the idea but that is just because that sort of culture interests me to no end and I hope it does the same for some of you.

Obviously details can be discussed, I just wanted the general idea out there.

The concept is interesting, but fairly broad atm. Which I kinda like; it offers a lot more variety to players.. but might make it difficult to get rolling. You'd need to find a lot of members if they're going to be that diverse.

I see your point. At the start we could perhaps limit it to just in Japan and keep it within its culture and if a lot of people were to join, then we could perhaps expand the board for variation as you said. Hmm...

Keep it Japan based. Please. I know you may like the alternate universe idea, but I'm serious on this one - you are going to get a lot of weeaboos who will come in and have to get their blonde haired, blue eyed character to be the last samurai and know absolutely everything about Japan and it's customs. And Japan was not exactly an open society or a diverse society at all.

There were female Samurai, but they were so extremely few and far between. If anything, there were Samurai wives that were bound to a similar honor as their husbands.

I see your point and I think it is a great idea. To be honest, at first I only wanted it to be based in Japan but flung in foreigners just for the variation. I would wanna make it purely Japan-based now, thanks for that and the other info. Should I make it historical as in some clans that really existed and the real shogun at whatever period I was to choose or keep it purely original but obviously still in Japan?

I don't know if you're interested in anime at all but they tend to try and do that on occasion. Now, I know I'm not one for historical settings but I do love a good chivalrous organization and in a modern or future setting... it could be interesting. It'll just take a lot of thought and knowledge about the country and the culture and the history.

So you think if we were to use Samurai but put it into a modern setting or futuristic, it would interest you? Oh, I love anime btw. Hmm that could be interesting but implementing it could be difficult. Perhaps, like how the Samurai's sword was banned so they could use conventional arms, what if there was a board that was in the present or future, whatever, a new leader rose to power and banned the use of guns or something? Meh, just a thought I guess. I would still, personally, prefer a historical setting but that is just to my tastes.

Are you talking Samurai rp as in like.. Samurai Champloo era or something else? I've always wanted to do something Feudal Era Japan related but no one seems to really have much interest in it around here.. Well, a handful, as I can see.
