Title: How About This Idea?
TurkFox - June 24, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
I was thinking of creating a fantasy roleplay, set in the Final Fantasy X video game's world (but without any of the game's characters - ie. setting it a couple of years after the game so they're not involved). It would just be a fantasy rp, but with a semi-familiar world to play in. People wouldn't need to have played the game beforehand, as there would just be a topic or two explaining the basics.
I'm having trouble getting anyone on to the two boards I've got at the moment, so I wanted to gauge interest before I put in any work. Can you vote in the poll, as well as replying with any comments you may have?

Would there be any over-all board plot? Would there be predetermined subplots? In what general direction would the board be going in, or do you plan on having a plotless board?
Sorry if that seemed like an inquisition haha.

Yes, I would probably come up with an overall plot so that the board had somewhere to go - but subplots would be members' individual choice. I like to have a lot of freedom to roleplay so I'd probably keep that on my board.
To the person who said no - just out of interest, why did you vote that? Is it just because it's not a genre you'd go for, or something else that put you off?

I personally wouldn't join, but that's just because I'm not a fantasy person (except for Harry Potter). The idea sounds interesting, but again, I'm not into fantasy rps, so I don't know what fantasy-rpers would think.

As with Upsilamba, I wouldn't join but only because I'm not into fantasy stuff. I think your idea of setting it in an already-familiar world - even if it's after the canon - is a good idea, though.
Good luck with it!

I'm not a huge fantasy person, so I don't think I'd join, but it's an interesting concept. Would you have items and stuff from the game, too, or just the map?

I said no from what you've given me.
You said a Final Fantasy RPG, with what plot? What ideas? Or just an RPG in final fantasy. That's like someone posting "Would you join a harry potter RPG". So, I haven't officially voted, but I'd like some kind of information about what is happening, or does it follow the game plot or what?
TurkFox - June 26, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
- set in the "Final Fantasy X" world
- set after the game, no canons
- I'd think of a plot if I was going ahead with making it, such as a new threat to the world or a new power struggle
- it wouldn't be following the game plot, though, because it's set after the game

I voted no, and I'll tell you why. No Canons. The whole main allure, for me anyhow, of a Final Fantasy site is the Canons. Why be in Spira if Yuna, Wakka, Lulu, Rikku, Kimarhi, or even Tidus and Auron aren't availiable. The explainations of how Tidus and Auron both got back would be interesting to say the least. Also, you don't seem to be counting X-2, because I believe X-2 happened about a year or two after X, so, by having this be two years after, you'd be smack dab in X-2's story and plot I believe. Which would open up a whole new can of Canons as well.
I'm a Canon girl. I like to have at least one, if for no other reason than the fact that they're a challenge to get right, and I love challenges.
Also, for a suggestion, if you make it, you'd need a better plot than a new villain or a power struggle in my opinion. There are a lot of FFX sites, and most of them have about the same plot. It goes like this. "XYZ has come to the land of spira....more powerful than Sin, XYZ has come to rule, and put an end to the lives of the many inhabitants. Who will come together to stop XYZ? .....blah lah blah etc etc etc...."
Yeah. I dunno what you'd come up with, but originality would have to be key.

I'm definitely not counting X-2, that was a monstrosity if ever there was one... if one ever needed evidence against making a sequel, they needn't look further than X-2! :p
The thing I'm worried about with the canons is this - on the FFX sites I've seen, the canons are all played so badly, and I'd be worried that I wouldn't get any good applications for my site. Also, it's a world that seems to be full of Mary-Sues when people are left to make their own characters, so I'd have enough trouble keeping an eye on that. Have you got any suggestions on this?

I love Final Fantasy X, to the point that I'm currently in the middle of replaying it, but personally I don't think this would make a very good RP unless there was a more central point for all the characters to interact. Spira's pretty big, and this is just my opinion, but if you make the RPG about the entire planet, it's going to be weird if Tom sees Sally in Bevelle, and then Tom sees Sally again two days later .. but in like, Besaid, on the other side of the planet. o.O Not everyone has an airship.
I hope that made sense ..

I personally wouldn't join because I'm not into fantasy RPGS, but I think you've got a pretty cool idea and it would be awesome to see you develop it :]

I think it's a good idea, but I wouldn't join. First off, I know nothing at all about Final Fantasy. I don't know how many they are, anything about it - I don't even know what console it's on. All I know is that it has a lot of skimpily dressed females in it. So the familiarity for me would be zero.
Secondly, it seems to be just a base. It's a good idea, but there needs to be a fantastic idea for a board on top of that.
My solution is this: set it in whatever place WoW is in!
