Title: From Bad To Worse?
Description: Evil admins and their horrible ideas.
Mischiefkayla - June 24, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
This can be a discussion if you like, but mostly I need to post this here or else I'll do it on the site and upset a good friend, and I really can't do that when she is so excited about this brand new site.
I'll start with this. Recently a friend was linked to a site by another friend, one whom I do not know. It was a site she would not normally have joined, but being a good friend, she wanted to help out with this new site that had no members, so she registered, she made her app, she waited to be accepted and so on and so on.
I did not join but lurked around, gave them suggestions about spellings of character names but I was suspicious. I am not sure why, there was soemthing about the way they spoke to new comers that made me thinks... They know each other well and it was as though it annoyed them people joined their group or else, they felt they were allowed to be slightly rude being the admins.
For example someone joined, made half the app and then had to leave because something came up and did not have time to then save it on word... So they pressed send and left. Then when I came back the next day, my friend asking me to read her app and see what I thought, I noticed in the cbox this new member asking where her newly posted, not saved anywhere else and nearly finished application was.
They'd deleted it and very coldly told them they didn't want their board cluttered with unfinished applications.
I was so shocked that I came back again the next day to see what else they could shock me with....
Well would you believe it.
They have a Wall of Shame... Its not enough that they delete members and activly chat in the cbox about who they dislike, you know, where everyone can see.
"Ooh, I sent you a PM regarding _____"
But of course they put the character name, and the constant LOL's and LMAO's along side the "Oh yeah, I agree" really bothered me.
But even so, this wall of shame has the girls real name and the character she favours to play on 10 different site with links to these other sites so that even though she is not there, people will be able to follow her and know where she was deleted from and all this other stuff.
Unacceptable in my opinion but what do you guys think? Is this over the line or what? Disgrace her on their own site, make this board visable to guests and link to her profiles on other sites. I thought it was absolutly disgusting... And their reason for doing all this.
Because this character was exactly the same on all sites and not canon. But people are intitled to use the same character wherever they like. I know someone who made a character in 2005 and uses her everywhere because she became so attached to it. I have a character that I adore and is so very different to me that if I could make her fit on other sites, I would take her there too...
I think its unfair.

Well..thats not very nice is it? not to mention probably against some sort of rule. Is their forum free or paid for? If its a free board, then I'm sure the support forum website for that sort of board has some sort of privacy rules that means they can't do that sort of thing. On the other hand, its the internet and sometimes privacy doesn't apply. There are nasty immature individuals out there who get worse when they hunt in packs unfortunately. The only real advice I could offer your friend is to do her research before she applies to any rping site and for the love of all that is good, please don't give out personal details online. I really don't see that anyone has to know what other forums a person is on either unless you really want to share that information.
They have obviously no right to do what they did. I know its of little comfort to you or your friend, but that forum will not last long if they think that is a fun way of treating people (that's my personal opinion). As for the other sites shes on, if she has friends there worth their salt, they wont take any notice of mean comments and will just feel bad for her.
My view: the best course of action now? Hard as it is. Tell your friend to put it behind her and move on. Use this as an experience which makes her wiser about where she chooses to invest her valuable time. If anyone asks, she should warn people tactfully about sites like that one, but not to bash it or be vengeful (she doesn't need to sink to their abysmal level but look after herself and get on with enjoying her writing in the future.
best of luck

We have names for people like that, but my mommy would wash my mouth out with soap if I said anything.
Run away from that board as fast as you possibly can. That's so not cool the way they treated that girl. I hope she has the sense to keep her head high and walk away from that board with dignity and without screaming too much. If she does, she earns my respect.
My best idea would be to boycott the board. Just leave. Don't make a big deal about it or anything. Firstly, they're not going to listen to you. Secondly, they're going to make you the enemy.
I hate people. :rawr:

I second what has already been said...
Their actions are deplorable and they should be ashamed to host such trash on their forum. Take the high road and delete the site from your bookmarks. Never return. I wouldn't even bother giving my opinion because they'll probably just add you to their snobby little blacklist for it. Tell your friend honestly why you won't stay and advise anyone who asks not to involve themselves. That's all the advice I can give...
(you could also extend some form of comfort to the poor girl whose name they're slandering, because it's cruel and she probably doesn't feel too hot right now :( )

Wow...that's so cold and cruel. I can't believe anyone would do that. I suggest leaving the site immediately, and don't look back! If the owner of the forum I co-admin ever pulled a stunt like that (not like she ever would, she's the sweetest, most tolerant, most willing to help person alive), I'd probably delete my account or ban myself or something. That's incredibly despicable. I feel really bad for the girl they did that to too :(

Hey, just remembered to check back on to this! lol. Thanks for all the advice. I tried to get hold of that girl and offer a place at a forum I am on but her she hasn't added me to MSN or returned my emails, she has probably changed it considering she was one of those like me who have their emails on display for people to see. Or she has two, like me, one for RP sites and one for people in her RL.
But anyway, can't get to her but did tell my friend to just abandon ship. She won't leave, don't really blame her, she spent hours on that application and it was for a canon exclusive to the board so she can't use it else where... But anyway. I thank you so much. This stopped me commenting on their guest friendly suggestion box, and my immediate reaction was to tell them exactly where to shove their board... I had a mind to post this topic for them to see, but you are right, they aren't going to care. Urgh.
Wish there was a way to find this girl... I tried looking on the other sites and she has deleted herself from them. :( She's probably in hiding, don't blame her really but she was a fantastic RPer, I read a few of her threads that they put in the "Dead and not needed threads" page.
Again. Thanks for the advice.
