Title: Name For Our Rp
Brandy - June 24, 2008 07:38 AM (GMT)
Ok, my site is doing a revamp, and we're working on graphics, and the like. But we have a problem....
We need a name. BAD. We need something that can combine DC and Marvel comics, but be broad enough for Manga (Sailor Moon, DBZ, Hellsing, etc) and other comics.
The gist of it is this. We're a site where the universes of heroes are all combined. There's DC and Marvel, and Dark Horse and Various Manga's, all in one world. (DC, marvel, and Dark Horse are all in America, and The Manga people all originate from Japan)
Help?

Why don't you spin something off of that? "Universes Combined" or "When Universes Collide..."

I like Jordan's "When Universes Collide".
sosoclever - June 24, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
I like "When Universes Collide . . . " too.
What was the name before?
Brandy - June 24, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
Our name before that was Legends and Myths:A Mult Story RPG . I know it's long, but is was something we felt encompassed all of the three worlds we had in there, Pirates, LotR, and Tin Man.
When Universes Collide is nice. Any others? Keep in mind these worlds have always been fused. Cap'n America has ALWAYS known Superman, and they could be friends. The manga people have always known the manga/DC People. Etc.

If the worlds always been like that then I wouldn't go for the 'When Universes Collide', it might give off the wrong impression. But it is a nice name, I just don't think it'll fit your setting XD.
I'm always really bad with names. The only thing I can come up with is 'Heroes Universe' -.-, it's lame I know.
touteXseule - June 24, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
I like When Universes Collide but it could give off the wrong impression. Quite possibly for a name you could use something kind of unrelated to the board. Maybe a song lyric or song title that you believe sums it up without actually giving away the entire plot.

I like to name my forums after something from the rp itself. Like, i was planning to name the rp "The Dawnseeker" after the main villian who was trying to steal the light from the world.
It wasnt on a forum though, it was a pretty big rp thing though.
Erm...as for a name for your forum, maybe call it "Pandemonium Of All Worlds" or just "Pandemonium" - which means crazyness, <-- simplified definition.

We came up with something, but I would like an opinion.
Registration Act: Civil War
Opinions? I'm making the banner later on, so I really need a name. :p

I like that a lot. "Pan" also means many, or all.
samaside - June 24, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
I like the Pandemonium name.
The Registration Act: Civil War name just seems too plain to me. I can't see a lot of people wanting to give it a look just because it sounds a little lame. Pandemonium, though, makes people wonder why you chose that particular name.
ShinLi - June 24, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)
*agrees with samaside*, as well with your first name, and went like o.O, what the .... does that mean XDD. Pandemonium sounds defiantly interesting and I always like meanings behind a word, specially if the meaning fits with the board.
AliceUnrequited - June 24, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)
If you're going with colliding I'd go with
"When worlds collide" because that's got lyrics behind it and that's always a plus for me. But I am a music nerd. (I'm also really bad at writing adverts, so sometimes I find that helps.)
I agree with Pandemonium, though, as much as that's worth.
I tend to like one word site names myself, so you'll probably see me coming out with Phantasmagoria sooner or later. xD
sosoclever - June 25, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah, "When Universes Collide . . . " doesn't quite fit. I like Pandemonium, too. It's one word, doesn't make your game sound limited to being a wargame, and makes it sound interesting.
There
is a published roleplaying game called
Pandemonium already, but titles can't be copyrighted, and your game is sufficiently different that I don't think people would confuse them.
Jordan - June 25, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
You can copyright titles, like Star Wars or Dungeons & Dragons, but when it's one word which is a common word in usage, you really don't have anything to fear.
December, Esq - June 25, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
I'm a horrible name-chooser, too, so I really don't think I'll have anything to add to that. However, I thought it necessary to remind you that a civil war is a war within one country--if you're going to have the US and Japan, then there wouldn't be a civil war. Now if there was a civil war in the US and Japan was helping out, that would be something completely different.
So what's the plot of this RP. We know that a bunch of superheros will be combined and all, but what actually happens? That may help us help you with a name.

Thanks so much guys! I like Pandemonium, so I'm going with that. It's definitely a unique sounding name, and when I put it on a banner, it fit. Thanks Again!
As for the Plot, I have an idea, but my CO-admin didn't post hers up before she left for a while, so I have NO idea what hers is or whether or not to post mine...

That's not copyright. It's trademark. It's a slightly different issue. You're right about the more common the word or phrase, the harder it is to get something trademarked, though. Bayer wanted to get "aspirin" trademarked, but the word was already in wide public use (really, who's going to call it acetecylic acid, or whatever it is) when they tried, so they didn't get it. And trademark is probably more the concern with the title of a game.
Either way, I think Pandemonium is safe.
zander - June 25, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Pandemonium is the name of a graphics forum already...
Brandy - June 25, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
Well, every name has been used at least once. So I think Pandemonium will be ok, since we're not a graphics board, we're a massive superhero RPG.
