Title: In Character Chatbox
Description: Love 'em? Hate em?

I've noticed that some sites add in-character c-boxes as a fun little thing for their members to do. I think they can be fun, but I can really take them or leave them. How about you?

Dislike them, but I don't really have a good reason why. I don't use them and I suppose my dislike for them stems mostly from the fact that it's really just a few people who actually use it on any given site, and it could just as easily be done over IM or something. At least that way you could see the posts that went back over two pages of chat.

On my sites, we have normal cboxes, but they often turn into ic just for fun.
When we do this it's spur of the moment and really silly.
Actually, I'm in one really tight rp community where we go ic all the time and have rather seriously engaging complicated ic chats - but that's because we know each other so well.
I wouldn't put a separate box because what's nice about those times is that they just rise out of the converstaions and personalities there. It's fun and it adds to the community and the interest in threading.

Take 'em or leave 'em - I voted don't care. Most people don't seem to use them unless there's an effort to tell everyone "HEY, IC CHAT BOX NOW!" Some sites seem to do well with them, though. Very few, though, in my experience.

I adore IC chatboxes. You can really learn a lot about your character using them, and about other people's characters as well. So, aside from just being plain fun, they're actually useful too!
Win-win, yes?

I like them, but at the same time, I think people sometimes focus on them too much and on rping too little. Some sites I've been on have a regular forum section for ic chatting/IM-ing, and that's worked out well, but doesn't have as much of the problems of of an ic c-box.

I like the c-box on The Black Pullet, which goes in and out of being IC. As far as I know we don't have any set rules regarding it (other than the usual no nasty comments, no swearing, etc.). We also have IC game forums so the c-box isn't the only place available to post IC.
ETA: Sorry, forgot about that.

I am not bothered either way. I have never encountered one, but me and mine do dip in and out of Muse Maddness when we're in the C-box, albeit more often than not we're ourselves. The closest we get are IC IM conversations over our messengers. Do they tend to impact the plot, or are they just IC characters speaking outside of plot and game?

I'm still really new to the whoe RP thing, so I'm undecided about Cboxes anyway. But on my forum, we have an In Character OOC thread, where all the characters can meet up and talk about all sorts of stuff - rather like meeting your friends down the pub.
We just had a rather mad game of Twister, between about half a dozen characters in an historical RPG. Mad, crazy, but FUN!

They add flavor to a site and something to do while waiting for that yummy post.

I say sure, why not. If I want to participate, I'll jump in; if not, I'll opt out. No harm done.
(Personally, I'd dedicate a section on the board for it instead of using a cbox.)

Well on my site, we have a section for AIM and MySpace and cell phones; so we have no need of an IC box, really. Besides an ic box can make people develop their relationships through there so there are no threads or plot posts and that detracts from the site. So personally, I don't have one but if the members wanted one, I'm sure me and my co-admin would add one.
Hmmm maybe I should make a poll for that on the site...

I put that I like them, though in reality I've never had one. I've tried to get admins to put them on their boards, but they never want to do it. Thus, my characters sometimes float around the OoC cbox, which is kind of funny b/c I'm then interracting w/ my characters. Anyway, it keeps me sane on many a long and lonely nights on empty cboxes. ;)
