Title: Myers-Briggs
Description: What's your personality?
Kyle3i - June 22, 2008 05:25 PM (GMT)
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes1.htmHere is one (of many, I'm sure) possible tests to determine your Myers Briggs Personality Type. Please take the test, be as accurate and truthful with yourself as you can, and then mark your result in the poll!
I'm wondering if RPGs attract certain personality types, or perhaps bring out and help to shape our own personalities;
Fun things you could add in your responses here:
Your comments/hypotheses
Your characters Personality Types! Just put yourself in their shoes and take the test again.
Your Jungian 'Shadow self': The yin to your yang, the dark repressed personality within you. :p The opposite of each of your traits. (for instance, an artist ISFP would have an ENTJ Shadow, an executive Personality.)
Have fun! *scurries off to take the test himself*
SmathNa - June 22, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
Ha! I have a thread on my site wherein people test themselves and their characters.
Here are our results, if anyone wants some more data. Really, the people on Thiasa run the full gamut. What's interesting is that people who are Ns often play characters who are Ss, and vice versa. How odd.
Telling people to type themselves with this particular test will probably end in a skewed data set, though--it may tell you which personality traits RPers VALUE, but not necessarily which personality types are most prevalent--and I think it's a pretty even balance.

Well, that's how it is with all online tests such as these, isn't it? :p People seem to have an inner and outer personality type; the inner similiar to the superego, the traits they see as ideal and value, and subsequently report in surveys and such. And then the outer self, the personality that is witnessed by others.
But meh. This is just for fun, I don't really expect accurate results. ^_^
I'm an INFJ, bordering on an INFP.
And my characters are fairly diverse: An INFJ, an ISTJ, and an ESFJ.

ENTPs are basically optimists, but in spite of this (perhaps because of it?), they tend to become extremely petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences. (Major setbacks they tend to regard as challenges, and tackle with determin- ation.) ENTPs have little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent, and show little restraint in demonstrating this. However, they do tend to be extremely genial, if not charming, when not being harassed by life in general. ... ENTPs are capable of bonding very closely and, initially, suddenly, with their loved ones. Some appear to be deceptively offhand with their nearest and dearest; others are so demonstrative that they succeed in shocking co-workers who've only seen their professional side. ENTPs are also good at acquiring friends who are as clever and entertaining as they are. Aside from those two areas, ENTPs tend to be oblivious of the rest of humanity, except as an audience -- good, bad, or potential. |
Ouch! A little too close to home. :p

| ...INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake... |

I did this a long time ago, and came out an INFJ. I redid it to see if it was the same, since it's been a few years. It is.
Here's what I got
Introverted: 78%
Intuitive: 62%
Feeling: 75%
Judging: 78%
You are:
very expressed introvert
distinctively expressed intuitive personality
distinctively expressed feeling personality
very expressed judging personality
As a side-note, I am amazed there are so many other INFJs who have responded already, as they are the rarest of the personality types. Only 1% of the people in the world are INFJs.

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.
******************************************************** ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

Haha, they even picked out my career :p

| Of all the Idealists, the Teacher (ENFJ) is the most likely to seek leadership positions in the private or public sector. The Teacher is drawn to careers in education or social services, such as college professor, high school teacher, social worker, or non-profit director. In business they are often trainers, sales managers, recruiters, or executives. Since they are good at building relationships, they may be fund raisers or recruiters. They also are found in jobs such as a health advisor, clergy, facilitator, or counselor. Says Rene, “It’s very important to me to really connect with my students. I need to feel that I am making a difference in their lives.” |

I could have predicted that 'IN's would be very prevalent--creative introverts seem made for RP.
No other ENTPs? Maybe that's why everyone seems to find me abrasive... :p
Kyle3i - June 24, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
heh, you can see a bit of a pattern emerging... sorta. Kinda.
Introversion plays a role here, and it appears that Judging (The 'J' on the end) is more dominant here than perceieving. J types plan out their decisions, like to have an idea of where they're going, a sense of control. the contrast, Percieving 'P' types prefer spontanaeity and unknowing. (As RPers, we have an element control over out character's lives; we have a general plan for their futures, and even when there are spontaneous moments, like an unforeseen event, we can still control its effects on our protagonists)
EDIT:
The Data thus far:
N=26
Introverted vs Extroverted:
I = 69.2%
E = 30.8%
Sensing vs. INtuiting
S = 26.9%
N = 73.1%
Thinking vs. Feeling
T = 53.8%
F = 46.2%
Percieving vs. Judging
P = 26.9%
J = 73.1%

I took a longer, and, in my opinion, better version of this test in school two years ago. (I say better because there were multiple choice questions instead of true/false and some word preference questions so it was harder to be biased about the results.) I'm pretty certain that I was ISTJ there as well, but I think it should be noted that thinking won over emotional by only two points or so. I don't know where my results are now, so I cannot remember my sensing/intuiting score, but it was more definite than what the above results indicate.

The Mastermind (INTJ) is very focused as well, but more on an internal vision. They are good at solving problems and like to work on tough intellectual puzzles. They are often led into technical positions such as scientific researcher, design engineer, environmental planner. The developing field of genetics benefits from their intensity as does the field of medicine. In education they are most often found at the college and university level. In the professions, they may be a lawyer, a business analyst, or strategic planner. Some have a strong artistic/creative bent and may become an artist, inventor, or designer. Whatever they do, they do it with intensity. Says Kim, "I am constantly teaching myself something new in order to solve the problems that I encounter. My husband leaves me alone when he sees that I am caught in what he calls my "Thinking Time." I'm unwinding knots even in my sleep." |
I think this is cute, and somewhat accurate. I love order, am extremely intense and yea...I'm a sophmore and will have my major done at the end of the year. Which is what I want to go into eventually which is Psychology. So, I could see all of that.

I was surprised at how spot-on the description was for me (um, it was kind of long, I won't take up the space to post it). And I am also kind of pleased that among the numerous lists of famous people sharing my type was Chopin, whom I adore - I find it interesting, actually. A part of me wonders if being apparently similar in this way is a contributing factor to how much I love his works and how much easier it is for me to pick up and play a Chopin piece as opposed to, say, a Bach or something. Interesting.
