Title: Your Favorite Ooc Games?
stormyhearted - June 22, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
So, I'm aware that the majority of the rp population thinks that an active ooc community is important for good rpgs, and to that end I'm trying to cultivate one. Problem: I hate board games. I never play them.
So what are your favorites? Which ones do you avoid like the plague?
BOH .:A:. - June 22, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
I love Green Glass Door. It is so funny watching ppl who don't get it suffer x3
The ban game is also fun. I ban you for being/having [insert appropriate phrase here]
A-Z games are pretty much spent out....everyone uses them.
Naming movie cliches is a hard one! Really good though. (Like the black guy always dies first kinda thing....<-- not racial slander)
Then there is mate date or shovel the one above you...
Last one to post wins...
all are pretty fun ^-^ besides A-Z

on my board I tend to like "IC Hot or Not", where your character rates the one in the post above... meaning they do not always get 10/10, when the nutcase characters decide to rate someone. And I have a bisexual character who keep giving everyone good rates as long as "he'd do them"... lol...
we have another, "Who do you kiss now?" with a list of 30 active characters doubled up, so there's 60 names (all names are there twice, but random)... you post, and then check the minute you posted that, check the list and see what character you (or your character) kissed at that minute... it can be pretty fun, they always get to kiss someone they don't like or would just have never kissed in the RP :p

We do duck-duck-goose sometimes. That's fun. The person who gets goosed must comply to do something such as post all in pink for a week, write every OOC post backwards for a day, etc. etc. Oh! We also have a story game where we post one sentence per person. Though I'm not really in favour of that one. What I really like is one word per person stories. I think I'll suggest that next...
Avery - June 22, 2008 11:10 PM (GMT)
I really like random questions, for the player and the character. I think that hot or not one would be really fun. In general, I think IC games would be heaps o' fun.

"make something for the person above you" is really nice for community spirit. People make eachother graphics, or agree to help out in plots and stuff. It's awesome.

Wouldn't half of the fun of the game be lost in translation? It's so much easier to catch on when the words are all there for you in print to review.
I'm not really a fan of OOC games, since I have bad memories of boards with dozens of 'active' members but no new IC posts. Everyone would rather dawdle in the games section and then have the ire to tell me they didn't have the time to post, or they just weren't 'feeling up to it'. :(
I do like writing a story games; like mini RPGs, you write out so much (it could be 3 words, one line, one paragraph) and the next person adds on to it, and so on.
I also like the "Building Character" games, where each person posts a trait about a fictious character.
free_birdxx - June 23, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
My favorite game is The Stalker Game. xD
A game where you post a funny picture of the character above you and post a comment about it in character! Comebacks are optional.
Kental-Akari - June 28, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)
Now you're all making me wonder what the Green Glass Door game is, as I usually avoid large rp sites and, as such, rarely encounter OOC games.
I do like the <^V game a lot, as it's fun and allows members to get to know each other a little better.
The "count down from (number)" games annoy me.
Nda - June 28, 2008 06:19 PM (GMT)
I too am curious what the Green Glass Door game is. >.>
I'm usually prone to the 'What Are You Listening To?' game, and the 'Soundtrack to your Life' game. =)
But things I've seen over and over again are usually the 'Hot or Not?' or the 'A-Z' games. It's nice to see some originality in the OOC section.

My lot seem to enjoy the 'truth' game. You make a statement about the next person to reply (a general one) and the next person responds as to whether it's true or false and tags on a little story if it's appropriate. It's like a big 'getting to know you' game, which is kinda cool.
an IC one would be good for a bit of impromptu character exploration.
Carmen Sandiego - June 28, 2008 11:28 PM (GMT)
I always participate in textual ones that are easy first (IE: What are you listening to?; Count to XXX) but they're kind of boring. They're just easy to get involved in.
My favorites are (like a lot of people have said) IC Hot or Not and posting pictures.
I personally hate the <^v game. I have no idea why -- but I never participate.
Tammi - June 30, 2008 12:35 AM (GMT)
Up sideways down/ ^>v / ↑→↓ is a good game, I've found. We've got 78 pages of replies on 'Souls in that thread alone, 1550 replies since Jan 3 @___@ So I would say that people like it. xD
It's a lot of fun and good to kill time.
To be honest, our ooc threads seem to get off track by two or three pages, and by then, it's one big game. Just posting random topics seem to turn into games, haha.
lexanator - June 30, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
I like Duck duck goose. It happens to be a popular game on a lot of sites. The gooses can be used for in character things, and in signatures. It can be fun, painful, and exciting.
Another 'game' is hangman, scatergories, and the ever famous Arrow game(^>V)
All are good time and post wasters :pink:
beta pleated sheet - June 30, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
I'm not crazy about games, but I'm more inclined toward the IC ones. I'm rather fond of the rumor games, where each person makes up a rumor about another character. I also like an IC version of the arrows game.
Panda's truth game sound pretty amazing. I may have to steal that idea!
: )
Maloneis - June 30, 2008 04:10 PM (GMT)
I like the hot or not games and the soundtrack to your life. I'm prone to posting in the This Or That game. It's where you post two thigns and a person picks between them and then they post two more things.
sunny - June 30, 2008 06:32 PM (GMT)
I have to say that Hot or Not is definitely one of my favorites. I also like the game where someone posts a song name, then next person posts an songwriter/singer whose name starts with the last letter of the song posted. The next person then posts a song, starting with the last letter of the singer or songwriter posted. On and on. ^_^ It can be tricky but fun.
mephieface - June 30, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
Hot or not and Duck Duck Goose are right at the top of the list of my favorites.
Although for games for posting's sake, What are you listening to, or the variants are always good. Besides, those kinds of games can often show the other members on the board who listen to the same kinda music that you do.
I do love the character question sheets. They're good for quick character analysis and often pretty funny.
Atricea - June 30, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
uh just remembered, we have our Superhero Characters game on our board, or not really a game but it's still fun - a link to the
HeroMachine and a thread to post in... then people can create their characters as "superheroes", press print-screen and copy the pic and upload into thread - it's really cool to not just see the avatars and playby's, but to actually see how people imagine their character looks like for real (almost) :)
Sadiekins - June 30, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
We have a few on ours.
Mate, Date, and Shovel
This or That
Duck Duck Goose where the person that gooses tells you something to put into your signature for a week.
We also have the "... in my bed" game where you put the title of the song you are currently listening to with "in my bed" after it.
On another site we did "20 Character Questions" where you posted ICly answering the question above you and then asking one below. It was interesting way to find out information about other characters.
Sharpiefan - June 30, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
20 Character Questions sounds good. An interesting way to fing out abot your own characters as well as other people's, I should think, depending on the questions asked.
May I borrow that?
Sadiekins - June 30, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
Be my guest. It is a great game. More so if you use completely random questions beyond the normal "what's your favorite ________?" I enjoy like asking what they would do in a given situation. One time someone asked "What would you do if you had me tied up?" and another person's character answered "Dress you up in a big floppy hat and have a tea party." I found it amusing.
Kental-Akari - July 1, 2008 02:54 PM (GMT)
I tried something similar to 20 Questions as a contest. I created a list of questions, some open-ended and some either-or and psoted them. I then asked members to fill out the sheet IC and send it to me. I filled it out for several of the more commonly used NPC's and posted all the sheets. The idea was that members would then try to determine which answers belonged to which character, but it died before anyone sent in their answers. Despite that, I may try it again on the new site I'm creating because it was fun to read the responses.
Paradox - July 7, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
One of the boards I'm playing on posted a questionnaire that has a bunch of random questions (ex. Do you untie your shoelaces before you take your shoes off?). The only catch is: You have to answer them in character! :)
Some players come up with the greatest responses! I posted it on another board I'm on--some of the responses are really, really good. (And, as an added bonus, it helps players understand their characters more.)
