Title: Why Is Your Modest Char. Posing In A Bikini?
bumble_ - June 19, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
I'm really getting tired of people who use and picture of their p.b. wearing a bikini and go on to say that the character is modest and shy and self-coinscious about their body and blah, blah, blah...
Well, maybe you should chose another picture, because people I know who are modest & shy & self coinscious about their body etc... don't generally go parading around in a bikini. Just a thought.
Seriously. This does not just go for female characters. There was this one bio I was reading for guy. The picture showed the p.b. flexing and just generally showing off his body. That's great. I'm not opposed to hot guys.
But I am opposed to you saying that he's really modest about his toned abs and he doesn't like to show them off because he really doesn't want to make other people jealous blah, blah, blah... Because that picture doesn't really seem to show that side of him.
ARGH!
IDK, maybe it's just me, but when I chose a p.b. I try and chose pictures of them that at least sort of reflect their personality. You know?
Like, I understand that one's not always going to find the perfect picture that perfectly captures the character's personality, but can't people at least TRY?

I mainly pick my PBs because they reflect the character.
Example: My young (16) and slightly looney character is portrayed by Kirsten Dunst. I didn't however pick all the big smoky eyed pictures, but rather (my av) the one of her kissing a pool floaty. Much better.
I think it is important for the character's PB to be that character, not just some babe in a bikini.

Ugh, that irritates me as well! On this one HP site I found, some girl was using a model a Victoria's Secret model as her PB and in her plot page she had these two big pictures of her being happy sexy in her bikini, and the same in her signature. Yet her character was a slave to some Pureblood and was given no rights. Err?
You also have to love the ugly canons that magically turn hot or, at worst, "uncommonly pretty," when they're on RPs. Like Mathias Lauridsen being used for Peter Pettigrew. NO, DAMMIT! Once I saw Ron Weasley being portrayed by Gaspard Ulliel...
I sound all cynical about PBs. I'm not; I love them. But it does get tiring. :p

That is really true or in this Hp site I used to be the supposedly canon characters that were at least 50 years old and then some PBs had models that were 20 something, I’m not saying to just google old ladies or something but to at least make them more realistic as to what the character is suppose to be and the personality

Thanks for making me spit out my water, Arakis.

Arakis, that was 100% spam and we will appreciate it if you don't do it again. I don't mind you commenting...but comment on what's actually being talked about as well - in more than just one word, thank you.
That annoys me very much. I choose my PBs sooo much for their personality (in pictures, not RL) and my PB for Laoise Casey is soooo good. I always choose pictures of her making faces or looking fake-fierce or looking downright stupid/ugly and it works. The PB does have really pretty pictures, but that's not Laoise so I don't choose them.
The one character I have whose personality doesn't match his photos I can't do anything about because his appearance is so much a part of who he is (he's quite vain and incredibly attractive) that I can't change his PB. So I just portray his more serious side in his signatures.
My friend asked me to do a signature for her character using the PB of Liv Tyler. Her character had some disease which made her keep out of the sun, so she asked me to find pictures where she's not showing anymore skin than necessary to be able to see etc. It was great!

I know what you mean! It gets SO annoying! When I made one of my sites I had some older canons there. I spent hours looking for celebrities that others would accept using but weren't insanely young. I'm not saying you should work so hard at it, but be realistic.
A lot of times, I make a character FOR the PB. For example, I made a graphic using Kristen Stewart and really wanted to use it as a signature on a board I was on. I was wanting a new character anyways. So I made a new character and made her personality and age fit the signature and the celeb rather than vice versa. Sometimes it's the same with names. I used Sophia Bush for one character because I thought the name Sara fit her.

I completely sympathize. The PB is supposed to represent the character, not be some amazing representation of what the character would be like if they were completely different. Grrr. I totally understand.

Gah! Reminds me of the 17 year olds people use to depict 12 year olds. OF course these people rarely play their modest character as modest *sigh*
