Title: I Found It! Then It Was Gone.
Description: so much potential, so little sense

Rant #1

When I first found a brand new RP for one of my main fandoms I was ever so excited. I already belong to one but it's huge and any character not part of the inner circle is easily lost in the wackiness. And they allow everyone and anyone to register with their choice of Sues (weepy-sue, kick ass-sue, modern-sue) for the medieval setting. Don't get me wrong, it's fun but sometimes I just want to smack them all for falling so short of the original media (which in itself is shamelessly anachronistic but it still adheres to the spirit of the legends). The male characters are generally well thought out though, which I found rather surprising.

Anyway, I found another RP but it was dead, so when I came across this third RP I was overjoyed. My first hesitations began with the ad. It had pictures of people that shouldn't be anywhere near my fandom. Hayden Panettiere, Jensen Ackles, David Tennant (not that I don't love them all outside my fandom). A little more research and I recoiled in horror.

No respect for canon at all (but it's largely AU so I suppose that can be forgiven to a degree). 'Only accepting canon characters' - a disproportionate amount of which are original canons with more than a little leaning toward Sueism. The names of the original characters borrow from current fandoms. Twilight, Supernatural, Pushing Daisies, Primeval, Harry Potter, Stardust and the Mummy are only the ones I recognised. Already established personal histories and relationships - crushes mostly.

Mandatory PBs. Ick.

The real kicker? These PBs (and their relationships) follow fandom and even RL. Kristen Stewart as a Cullen, Robert Pattinson as an Edward (naturally they're engaged). Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere probably aimed for a future relationship, Charlie Cox and Claire Danes (her second name is Yvaine) with crushes on each other, Jensen Ackles & Katie Cassidy with a love/hate relationship. It just goes on. It comes across as a fandom cross-over. Change the names, keep the general personalities and run with it.

Here's news: if you have that level of detail and plot, write epic fanfic with your Sues. Don't make other people do it for you!

And it makes me sad because it could have been marvellous.

Rant #2

Actually, this is more of an observation. In the same fandom as the above rant there's this guy that applies with the same character to every single RP. The application seems to be exactly the same, I assume edited to fit the specific needs of the different boards. It's always the same PB, the history and canon ties are identical and the grammar problems are consistent.

He's not a bad character, really. Aside from the forced canon ties the history is believable enough for a medieval setting. But seriously dude, get some originality!

Also, I wonder what the response is going to be to the lastest application because the board is only accepting the original characters at the moment.

I despair. Will I ever find the perfect RP for my cracky fandom?
