Title: People Are Shameless And Insane

Sunday - June 15, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
I am amazed that people will still steal stuff from a site that has been offline for months. Just because the site's dead doesn't mean I am. Luckily it wasn't that big of a deal... I could've let it go, but I am way too proud (and selfish?) to ignore it. It's happened way too often to me; I'm at the point where, rather than getting tired of it and just let it go, I've become really serious and confront anyone about it if I have solid proof.

Zero tolerance for plagiarism, right here!

I feel your pain!

*Same thing happened to me a few months ago.*

Shameless. Yes.

Insane. Not so sure. More like arrogant or ignorant. Take your pick.

This has never actually happened to me, but I get what you mean.
I just remembered: it DID happen to me. The forum wasn't even dead.. It still isn't dead! But we had some guest come along, spend a while looking around at the forums and plot and rules and such, and before you know it there's a brand new forum.

The forum I admin on is a high school senior year, with only original characters, with a plot that explains that the boarding school is for the kids of America's richest families, and the town it's in has a beach and a nightclub and blah blah blah.

And the forum that we found via the advertisement forums was.. "a high school senior year, with only original characters, with a plot that explains that the boarding school is for the kids of America's richest families, and the town it's in has a beach and a nightclub and blah blah blah."

-cough-

Yeah, there's a little resemblence. And although our forum has been open for almost nine months and still active, I'm glad to say that their forum had no members except for the admins. No one joined and to my knowledge, the admins even abandoned it. Our forum even had a clique system (for member groups - eg jock, cheerleader, loner, nerd, etc.) and they had stolen them, blatantly. They just changed the colours, renamed them a little and bam, apparently that's original.

And it happened to my friend too. But it wasn't a forum concept or just the plot or rules they stole; the forum was dying (dying - not dead), and a guest came along, copied my friend's character's history and personality, then came over to the forum I'm an admin on (the high school one above), registered and posted all that. I recognized it, but I wasn't an admin at the time so I couldn't do it. I said to my friend on MSN "You're on OSY too?!" and she was all "No.. should I be?" So I pointed her to the application. The member was rejected and the application was deleted.

People pee me off. >.<

making friends with the IF people is a good thing... keeping copies of everything and generally making peoepl feel stupid is another good thing. The game I'm on has had repetitive problems with plagiarism and the admin has made very good friends with the IF staff and has had games shut down for copying her stuff. She actually has canon errors specifically so people won't copy her.

Ugh i had someone do that to me not that long ago and it pissed me off so bad

it wouldn't have been so bad (i mean it wa a fairly standard IDEA) but they like copied all my foru descriptions and my rules and EVERYTHING I was so hacked off >.>

I haven't been near the site since I groused about it on their c-box for a little bit but then I just shrugged it off and felt a little bit cool (I mean, if they had to copy all my stuff that means it was pretty damn good right?)

IT STILL SUCKED THOUGH!
