Title: Stretched Threads

cora.faith - June 15, 2008 07:02 AM (GMT)
So, my strong spot is certainly not coding.

Recently, I've tried to post in our 'advertising' space, a thread with the code to our ad on it for member use. However, once I posted the code form (in [code] tags), the whole boards stretched so that you can't see the 'reply' or 'edit' buttons at all.

I've seen this happen before with relationship pages, but those are always member-posted and their own responsibility. This is a site document, and I'd really prefer it to be legible.

Does anyone know what the answer is/how I can make this work? I know it does on other forums...

Thanks for your time!
<3 Cora

I had the same problem so I did two things:
  • Changed the font type and size for the code tag in the forum CSS so that it was smaller and of a different type [Verdana].
  • Made it so that, if I had an image, I had a line break between the image and the URL. When you post your ad you'll have to put them on the same line again, but it works for the code.

That's really the only help I can give you. If your forum is wider, it shouldn't be a problem. Also, HTML doesn't seem to stretch it no matter what you do, while BBC does.

I got really excited about this advice because I've had the same issue. But here's the thing

CODE

#QUOTE { font-family: Verdana, Arial; font-size: 11px; color: #40578f; background-color: #1B1E1F; border: 1px solid #141516; padding-top: 2px; padding-right: 2px; padding-bottom: 2px; padding-left: 2px }
#CODE  { font-family: Courier, Courier New, Verdana, Arial;  font-size: 8px; color: #40578f; background-color: #1B1E1F; border: 1px solid #141516; padding-top: 2px; padding-right: 2px; padding-bottom: 2px; padding-left: 2px }

I changed the 11px in the code to 8 px and there was no visual difference on my board... any help?

That's because it's Courier. You have to change the font type to something that can go smaller - ie, Verdana. That's what I did and it made it smaller.

Thank you, thank you!
It took me a while to get around to doing it, but that's perfect.
All fixed now. ;D
