Title: What Kind Of Rps Interests You?
roleplay - June 15, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
I'd like to get an general idea of what you guys think is a fun RP, what kinds you like.
I guess you could file the RPs under the heavy categories such as Fantasy, Futuristic, modern and so on. But on a more specific level; special powers, realistic, vampirism, post-apocalyptic... well, there are tons of themes.
What floats your boat?
RomanHk - June 15, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
Anything with powers? I'll try something historical/political once in awhile but it has to be very specific to an event I might be interested in at the time. Sci-Fi + Powers is best for me but Mythology and Fantasy can catch my eye too.
Emma - June 15, 2008 05:35 AM (GMT)
Fantasy is my favourite. HP (I don't join them anymore, but I own an HP), mutants.
Ok, this is hard. I shall instead go the other way and put things I don't like to join, because that list is shorter.
Vampires/werewolves.
Real life.
High school.
Music.
Post-apocalyptic.
Horror.
That's pretty much it. I will join any of those providing it's unique or interesting enough. I like fantasy the most - so long as it has magic. I love magic. Sci-fi is also good, but I think I'd put special powers over sci-fi.
cora.faith - June 15, 2008 05:41 AM (GMT)
I honestly don't like anything modern.
I mostlly do Marauders Era, but my first preference is with Historical sites - I'm just far more picky about those.
I like historical rps that aren't about wars or huge conflicts, just about people and the time period and their stories - like how you play rps set in modern times, just going back a bit.
But I'm really picky about historical sites.
I used to do Medieval Fantasy, but I never really got back into it.
Chexdex - June 15, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
I like present day rpgs. Like high school, college, real life, or anything based on television shows. I use to like harry potter & magic but I've gotten away from that.
*NR Staff* - June 15, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Fantasy - all the way. I don't RP anywhere but my own board.
kel430 - June 15, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
I like high school/boarding school RPs a lot. I mainly stick to real life, and the occasional TV-based RP (OTH, Lost).
Necrorose - June 15, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
I really like active ones..LOL sorry being a smart butt...
I like the fantasy RPs but nothing to over powerful for it takes the fun out of it. Such as
Vampires
Werewolves
Elementals
Mutants...
I also like the Harry Potter boards, but they are getting a bit played out..
Alternate worlds are fun if you can get people to RP on them..
Do not care for the ones that are based in High School...Hell I hated High School when I was there..LOL do not want to relive that..
stormyhearted - June 15, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
HP, but only on my board at this point. I gravitate towards fantasy and historical, but I'm outrageously picky.
Panda - June 15, 2008 05:17 PM (GMT)
Ho-hum.
I'm a fandom gamer. Have been for neaaaaarly 9 years. It is my first and, really, my only love. I like a good X-Men, a good HP,or other games with similar fantastical-or-comic twists. Though I'd love to see a Skulduggery one. I'm not interested in fandom games without the canon characters, though. I play for the joy of playing and interacting with canons, so having a game without them defeats the purpose for me.
An original game has to suit a character I already have in mind. It has to be open minded, or it has to fit my needs like a glove.
Kitay` - June 15, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
Ah. I'm a wolf girl at heart. Just cannot beat a solid, realistic wolf roleplay in my book. At the same time, though, I'll try anything if the plot is attractive to me-- I love originality, whether it's a fandom roleplay or a fantasy or a historical or a whatever ~
SpazzyMal - June 16, 2008 07:14 AM (GMT)
I've always been big on werewolves. Vampires too, to a lesser extent. X-Men. Harry Potter. Real-life, depending on where it's set. I think I'd enjoy something set in the '50s quite a lot, and I'm sure I'd enjoy a good Firefly roleplay. Star Wars, too, though I've never played it.
ExpectoPatronum - June 16, 2008 08:20 AM (GMT)
Literacy is a necessity for me to have fun. I need to be able to read people's posts more than anything else. x_x
Next comes up is fantasy. Fantasy makes everything fun.
From then on, I can get interested in most things.
I prefer dark subjects such as nuclear wars and things of the like. <3
Bramble - June 16, 2008 12:45 PM (GMT)
Hm.
I definitely used to adore Warrior Cat role plays. I've really grown out of it, though.
I do camp, medieval, medieval fantasy, elemental, Inuyasha, Tokyo Mew Mew, and any other anime/manga I'm into at that moment.
rosalieart - June 16, 2008 01:02 PM (GMT)
genre doesn't matter for *most* genres, but is has to;
A. catch my eye.
B. have a good plot/character options/no silly rules
C. have lots of background and
D. hold my interest. (as in, i i can easily forget to open the tab to the board because it hasn't reeled me in, i'll look a few times then it'll slowly drown in my bookmarks unintentionally)
i also like varying post lengths, preferring the average range to be from 1-5 paragraphs give or take depending on what's happening.
like emma, i'm going to list what i won't do.
schools- any kind, any kind at all
Harry Potter- just no. no way. x.x;;
romance- kill me now. :p
real life- i LIVE in real life, why the heck would i want to write about it?
vampires/werewolves- unless it's REALLY REALLY good, i close the tab. i've seen it so many times and don't see the fun in it.
absolutely positively NO anime/manga.
x-men and most cannon based rp's save a few, which, of course, seem not to exist. XP
Dusti - June 16, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
I like ordinary people in extrodinary circumstances.
The human in a mutant world, the survior in a world of zombies, the rancher's daughter on a firefly in the black, the foster child who became a cop, etc.
Stygium - June 16, 2008 05:42 PM (GMT)
I'm a big fan of Fantasy RPs, mostly for combat, because, I freely and truly admit, I need so much work on my other styles  Anything where I can
1. Make a giant fireball of DOOOM!
2. Use a superweapon, space or land, s'all good.
3. Try and RP a realistic character in a realistic place, with people who won't lynch me for making a few mistakes... That was a fun board...
But anything like that, I lurv.
Techberries - June 18, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
Recently I've been really into Early modern Europe.
I don't really like the conflict, just the culture of it all! Living back in the 18th century, importance of rank, getting married, FUN FUN!!
Still waiting for a board similar to this and I doubt it's going to come anytime soon. Lol.
I kind of got tired of real life and high school RPG because it just turned into sex and drama and that's what everyone is looking for. Also, I'm getting tired of seeing all those CW characters over and over again!
bloodless soul - June 19, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
The following roleplays interest me.
-Star Wars
-Post Apocalyptic
-Vampire
-Somewhat Harry Potter & X-Men, although I've never really quite fit in on either type of those boards.
bumble_ - June 19, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)
I used to be really, really into high school and HP role plays, but they're not really interesting me anymore.
I'm starting to gravitate towards historical and futuristic ones now, but mostly historical. Right now I'm super picky. Normally i'm not obscenely picky.
castaway - June 19, 2008 06:07 AM (GMT)
I don't really like "real life" rps, because they just don't get me feeling creative. It's like, I live that everyday, I don't have the inspiration to really write about.
So, I go for alternate universe rps, or rps of a different genre. Right now, I'm on two sites, a HP one and a Lost one. But if I had more time, I'd love to do a Heroes type one, of some sort of "gifted" roleplay. Fantasy would also be fun, because that's my favorite thing to just sit down and write on my own.
LittleRikku - June 19, 2008 06:14 AM (GMT)
I'm all about real life, but in the way that its in the future or its more "extraordinary" in ways. Like, 'gifted' rps i love to death. Or a secret society with all this action and stuff is always nice too. I like being able to use play bys who really match with the story too.
But recently i want to play under a post-apocalyptic one. Like, the world is destroyed and theres a few left to save it, and survive scary obstacles. those are good rps for me.
but then, im open to almost everything.
The Dabnor - June 19, 2008 08:29 AM (GMT)
I have a few fandoms I like.
Batman is probably easily my current favourite
X-Men is where I started and easily what I've done most of
I've done some Buffy, too
I've been at a couple of Firefly boards, which sadly never lasted near to long enough
I did Harry Potter once.
As for non fandom stuff?
Zombies are fun, sure and I could be persuaded to give post apocalyptic a look, I guess.
I'm sure that I'm missing out oodles of stuff >.>
SmathNa - June 19, 2008 10:45 AM (GMT)
-RPs populated with mature, reasonable, active, skilled writers.
These are rare. Any genre.
MelioraAdmin - June 19, 2008 10:53 AM (GMT)
Right now I'm active at boards in the genres of classic fantasy, and fan-based (Resident Evil and X-men). Generally I'd stick to fantasy and futuristic sci-fi stuff, but I'm never opposed to exposing myself to different styles of RPing with different types of characters.
Basically, if an RP takes places in an interesting place with an interesting culture, and the players are committed. . . I definitely consider joining.
Midnight Meiji - June 19, 2008 11:24 PM (GMT)
I used to like Harry Potter RPGs... you know, when magic was actually involved. Now 95% of all HP RPGs don't use it.
Any RPG that is canon-only or canon-heavy I won't play. This goes ESPECIALLY for original creations (as in, not HP, X-men, TV show, etc). I'm looking at you, boarding/high school RPGs. Why should I be forced to play with a character that you made up, with your PBs?
I tend to go for Real Life RPGs, with casts ranging from mid 20s and onwards. These are hard to find though, because most are fantasy and... eh, I'm not really into that. I enjoy realism 'cept in HP magical cases.
Also, I like to browse an RPG forum before I sign up; therefore if for some reason it's members-only viewing (which I cannot for the life of me figure out why admins do this) I will not join. And if I can see the whole board, if I see an abundance of threads that say something like, "me/john only" or if the same people seem to be RPing everyone, I also won't join. Exceptions are made for the latter when the place is new, of course.
itsclassic - June 19, 2008 11:42 PM (GMT)
Simply realistic RP'S for me. No scholastic settings. Something about them just really puts me off:
No high schools
No colleges
NO BOARDING SCHOOLS.
I've tried my share of band RP's not too long ago, but found that most of them evaporate before it even gets going (not sure why, but, hey).
My recent fixation are historical ones; really just 60s and 70s. I've always been in love with the era and it was lucky enough to find a couple of sites based around it recently.
So, yeah, me as of now: 60's and 70's realistic rp's (but still open to other realistic games as well...but schools.
antisocialist87 - June 20, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
I'm mainly into anime/game RPs, but with a twist.
I prefer that they be well thought out, if the characters are non-canon, then they absolutely MUST have a diverse cast (not just ethnically, but in different ways as well - I refuse to join a whitewashed board with a bunch of pretty blondes and tall dark and handsome men), and that they make sense and won't die within a month.
