Title: If You Won £9,000,000,000
roleplay - June 9, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
I'd buy a large plot of property and build a house I designed on it. I'd put aside more than enough for my child's college fund and for any lodging/living expenses for her during college. I'd probably buy a nice car for my fiance and me. After that, I'd make sure I took care of other family members worthy of the help (some of my family are useless and greedy jerks). After that, I would invest it and let it collect interest until I decided to retire. I would keep working, though.
What would you do ? (Besides convert the money )
AshBeanNun - June 9, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
This is assuming that you have that much after taxes, right? I'm pretty sure Bushy-poo would just take all of it to pay off his war. Or, you know, blow up more countries.
I've thought about this before so I have a pretty good idea.
-Hire an excellent, trustworthy accountant because I am money retarded.
-10% to the church...not necessarily just my home church, they'd be overwhelmed and wouldn't know what to do with all of it. They'd be happy if they had enough money to repair the roof!
-Pay off my parent's debt.
-Pay for college.
-By property, lots of it. Build a house.
-Travel to Ireland, possibly buy land there.
-Ink a very large check for the Central PA Conference camping ministries. Their buildings are falling apart and they can barely keep their doors open.
-Donate to World Vision, 30 Hour Famine, Operation Christmas Child, and the other charities I'm involved in.
-Investment, savings, retirement, college, etc. etc.
-See more musicals, operas, and symphonies.
-Buy that villa in the south of France I've promised my BF's.
-Indulge in my photography/filming/theatre/costuming hobbies.
-Invest in start-up businesses and the like, possibly start a program that teaches fiscal responsibility rather than debt-based living. We need to prevent the US from collapsing somehow.

Humm. Assuming I got it now (or my parents did for me), I'd set some aside for uni and moving to Wellington, use a little to buy me a shift dress and maybe a skirt and pay for my writing camp and ball ticket.
Then! Then I would find people to advise me on how to make more money from it and invest it in housing etc. I'd pay the mortgages on my parents' two houses so they don't have to. I would try to invest a lot of it so that I'd get a very good passive income so I would never have to work again. I'd set some aside to adopt a Chinese girl and live in China and adopt an African boy (we think) and live in Africa. Dan and I wouldn't have to work but we would anyway and once I'd set things up so that we were making more money I'd donate to a lot of charities and to my church! To finish our new church building. And I'd help Bethana (Daniel's sister) go to do Mission work and probably do some myself. Yep. Basically I'd spend as much as I could every year on helping people - and on myself, I'm sure.

I would . . . hmm . . . save it for retirement. :p And buy a few CDs. And maybe start some sort of charity? I really don't know how much money that is, so yeah. (Ich bin Amerikanerin.)

Retirement? Why on earth would you waste nine billion pounds on retirement? Unless you were insanely stupid you couldn't spend nine billion pounds in your life, let alone after you retired.
Since you're too lazy to use a currency converter, I did. Nine billion pounds is seventeen billion, five hundred and ninety-two million, one hundred and two dollars and seventy cents in US dollars [or $17,592,102,863.70 USD].

It's important to save for retirement. Imagine all of the places you could invest in. I'd buy me some land and invest in the stock market and put some money into IRAs.
MishMoo - June 11, 2008 03:06 PM (GMT)
UM O_O. I've thought about this a lot more than I should, haha. I daydream way too much. And there's the whole, "Well, I would like to say I'd do this, but would I really?" I might get the money and turn it a selfish brat =3.
I would either buy my parents a new home or fix up the current one (they've moved so many times that I don't know if they would want to again). I'd by them a new car, because they really want one (one that doesn't guzzle so much gas). I'd tithe to my church, and donate money to a charity (probably a cancer one).
And now comes the fun stuff!
I'd finish paying for college, of course. Especially since I think they'd revoke the Financial Aid if they heard about winning that much money ;D. Then I wouldn't be in debt until I'm 50! Yay! I'd set aside money for a home for whenever I decide I want one. I'd buy myself that Yaris I want so damn bad, or maybe some really fuel efficient car (although the Yaris does get 30+ mpg).
Oh, and I guess I'd give some to my sisters, too xD.
And then all the materialistic stuff... (not that a car isn't selfish, haha). Books, CDs, games, nifty computer stuff. Geeky technology related items.
Oh, Lord. I'm stopping now xD.
Panda - June 11, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
- I would take flying lessons to overcome both my fear of heights and my fear of flying.
- I would set up Panda Publishing.
- Buy myself an XKR Jaguar Convertible.
- Buy myself a house. Nothing huge, but somewhere in a nice location with room for expansion.
- Get my nose done.
- Pay off my student loan and my parent's mortgage.
- Donate to a Breast Cancer Research Charity.
- Give my brother a proper house. One he could afford the upkeep on, of course.
Tammi - June 11, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
- Pay off my parent's mortgage
- Not get a bursary when I go to Uni and actually pay for my admission with REAL MONEY.
- Buy a condo or something to live in while I'm in Uni (no slums for me! >D )
- Get an Alienware and a Mac. >_>
- Go travelling! I would visit Andorra. :D
- Go to Thailand for Muay Thai
- Go to Israel for Krav Maga
- Get into politics.
- Invest!
- Learn to play the piano :D
- Fund a library right next door so I can walk to get books or something >_>
- Invest some more :D
Arakis - June 11, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
I would buy a small country, miltarize it, and start a global revolution by conquering one country at a time, militarizing the citizens of each country as I went, further growing my army.
Monkeyonamission - June 14, 2008 02:44 AM (GMT)
Holy Banana Bread that's a lot of money....so many things I could go. I like your idea Arakis of world domination, but that seems a little tedious...so I would:
- buy my parents and brother a nice big house with a garden, one each of course.
- Help my friends go to uni and buy houses for them, whether they wanted them or not.
-Go to uni my self and get every History and geology related degree available
-spend the rest of my life doing archaelogical digs and traveling the world, screw settling down and buying a house.
-I would also fund unis to help other people do digs.
Ar'kazail - June 14, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
Well, first I would buy a plane ride to England so I dont have to deal with conversion rates.
THAN I will buy all the tea in England, the hats of the palace guards, and will pay England to change how they spell words to the Correct American way (I joke, but if I had the money I would try  ).
Tea+Silly hats+England spelling the way I do= a good day
Stygium - June 14, 2008 09:44 PM (GMT)
Mmm... Stygium like money...
Well, firstly, to assuage my guilt, I'd donate a whole bunch to cancer treatment, probably... leukemia. Then, I'd have some fun.
I'd buy, build and operate a massive home/hotel, complete with massive gaming rooms, ETC. A large amount would go to establishing EVERYTHING a city needs, in that hotel/home. It would be a hotel/home/city. With many Arcades. Anything else would go into high interest savings, so my children's children's grandkids can keep updating Arcadia. Thats what I'd call it. Dude.
Mr. Saxon - June 15, 2008 03:26 AM (GMT)
If I won that much money, I'd probably be in a coma of shock for a week. Following this, I'd pay off all my parent's debt for them, buy them each a house (they're seperated) and new cars. I'd probably give some to my brother and sister, buy them new cars or something. Help my immediate family, the ones that have been there for me when I needed it.
Then, to myself. I'd pay off my own debt! Buy myself a new car and an apartment in Sydney so I could go to college there. But, instead of using the gap year for working to save up for College, I'd travel the world, Europe, Russia, the Americas and Asia before heading back down under to start college in 2010. Then live off the investments/interest etc. I'd make and probably donate some to charity and stuff. There is no way I could ever spend however much money it was by myself and It'd be too greedy for me to keep it all to myself.
murder_101 - June 18, 2008 06:59 PM (GMT)
I would probably pay for my tuition to University next year. Completely pay it all off; make sure that I have all of my airfares there and back all sorted out as well as living accomodation, food etc.
And then I would probably save the rest of it, and invest it in some way where I wouldn't lose it to tax or anything.
The Dabnor - June 18, 2008 07:07 PM (GMT)
Three words:
Hookers and gin.
... or should that be two words? I dunno if I should count the and.
I dunno though. I think driving lessons and a Bugatti Veyron would definitely come into it somewhere. And an Aston Martin DBS V12
