Title: Z11 Invisionfree

MorganRise - June 1, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
Anyone know why the server is down?

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 04:07 PM (GMT)
it seems all non-paid-domain IF sites are down. z9, z7, z11, z15. All of it. I think the main server crashed and they're pussyfooting around trying to fix it.

Deputy Dingo - June 1, 2008 04:09 PM (GMT)
First time in three months I've tried to visit my in-development site and it wouldn't work lol typical. Thanks

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 04:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah. IF has the great ability to do that. That's why I'm gonna start using SMF and PHPBB3 and whatnot.

Ali.inthejungle - June 1, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Invisionfree had a bit of an emergency, from what I understand. Has anyone else heard this?

SmathNa - June 1, 2008 04:44 PM (GMT)
Here's what's REALLY weird--the sites are working for some people, but not others. Huh... for instance, I can access z9 but not z11 or z15.

You're right, it is odd. I've been unable to access z9 all day. I just checked again to see if it was up, but for me it just doesn't work. :(

stormyhearted - June 1, 2008 04:46 PM (GMT)
I'm not having problems with z9 or z11. :innocent:

Ali.inthejungle - June 1, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
There it goes again... I was able to get onto my z15 board for about a minute before it gave me an error message. But the members in the C-box said they'd been on for almost twenty minutes.

This is a really strange problem, that it's cutting in and out like this for different people. Another person online suggested that IP addresses had something to do with it? I dunno. I just want it fixed. Haha.

Issues In A Bottle - June 1, 2008 05:16 PM (GMT)
Is it still having problems? Because my board is z11 and it's working fine.

MorganRise - June 1, 2008 05:21 PM (GMT)
It's fine for me now.

Deputy Dingo - June 1, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
Mine's Z9 and it won't get past the first page...

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 05:27 PM (GMT)
I still can't do anything.

Edit: On Opera or IE!

It works on Firefox if you wanna try that.

Chexdex - June 1, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)
I'm having problems as well but im talking to one of my members on aim & she can access one of my forums with no problems.

Yup. FF is a no-go, Safari works for me... sorta. I haven't tried IE yet.

Chexdex - June 1, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
I've tried all the browsers I have & none work.
I have Firefox, Internet Explorer, Flock & Safari

bloodless soul - June 1, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
I can't much get on any of the servers except for a few seconds here or there before they crash on me and I can't get on. This is bull as far as I see it, I had to go through an entire offline pm system for 3 days and now this.

I agree. It is bull. And the support forum is even down, so there's no way we can even ask what the deal is.

Manda - June 1, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
I hope this gets fixed soon. Grrr.

Don't freak out people; IF is doing what they can to deal with the situation. According to this forum there was a fire that affected a lot of servers... I'm not sure if they're affiliated with IF, or if they're using IF's servers or what... But this is the information everyone is pointing to in regards to what's going on.

"Today at approximately 5:45 p.m., a transformer in our H1 data center in Houston caught fire, thus requiring us to take down all generators as instructed by the fire department. All servers are down.

We are working with the fire department, with our facilities staff on site, to assess the situation.

To keep you updated, we will send messages every 15 minutes in Orbit and here in our forum.

We have determined that no servers in the data center have been damaged. Nonetheless, they are down because power is out. Teams across the board are working to take appropriate action.

We will continue to keep you updated."

From Doug Erwin:
This evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.

This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers. All members of our support team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site. Our initial assessment, although early, points to being able to have some service restored by mid-afternoon on Sunday. Rest assured we are working around the clock.

We are in the process of communicating with all affected customers. we are planning to post updates every hour via our forum and in our customer portal. Our interactive voice response system is updating customers as well.

There is no impact in any of our other five data centers.

I am sorry that this accident has occurred and I apologize for the impact.

Another forum I looked at said that "an issue at one of the datacenter buildings has knocked the domain system for IF and zetaboards offline. since your ISP remembers domain info for hours, this outage will not affect all users." Whatever that means lol. :p

It explains why I can access all IF sites, and some of my friends can only access a few.

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 06:26 PM (GMT)
So basically, what they're saying, is that we're screwed until about 5 PM central?

:p

Sunday - June 1, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
Maybe you guys are, but my sites are working fine. :p Jk, jk. I wouldn't consider it getting screwed - none of the data is lost. If people want to get pissed about it and stuff, then sure, I suppose they have the right... But I'm just thankful the damage wasn't more widespread, and that we didn't have another Server 1 moment, you know?

EDITS~ I'm not saying you're getting pissed off, TwilightDawn - just for clarification. Because you don't sound pissed or anything. :p Just speaking in generalities.

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 06:32 PM (GMT)
:p I only started doing this last november, but I heard about the server 1 incident. Just glad it's not that. Then I could have a solid reason to stick with SMF and PHPBB3 (Which I think I might do anyways because IF loves messing up. xD)

Sunday - June 1, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
All things considered, IF is still a reliable server, at least to me. They experience some lags and down time, but all in all, it's pretty rare that it's more than a mere inconvenience. I can't speak for SMF or PHPBB3, since I've never tried them, but I'm sure they have their own occasional problems as well. And I think there are more users/more servers on IF, thus more of a chance for things to go wrong.

The same thing happened on GreatestJournal and InsaneJournal. GJ went down the toilet because the admin couldn't take care of it and there were too many people making journals for the server to handle... It really sucked because he was literally telling us to go make journals on InsaneJournal since he didn't care about GJ anymore. Ever since then, I've been much more openminded towards server downtimes. XDD I've experienced the worst of it and IF is nowhere near that level (...yet? LOL).

EDIT~ Oh, and it's the fact that IF is also still a free service. If I was paying for this crap, I'd be pissed, LOL.

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah. Definantly yet. Especially with people still using If and neglecting ZB. So once it's an equal flow, all servers that Invision owns will be screwed. And there's also IPB on the side. So....hosting your own forums makes more sense, statistically, they would have much less downtime. With a very not well known host.

Lenore - June 1, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
I can't access z11, z15 or z9 x.x
I could access z9 and z15 earlier, but now I can't. It's quite odd. Hopefully I will be able to later.

Ashaaa =] - June 1, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
I'm on one Z6 board and it keeps flicking on and off. Using Internet Explorer it won't let me see the site at all anymore [it did earlier very briefly] but Firefoz lets me on for short seconds at a time before crashing again for a while.

Luckily i just managed to squeeze a post i had already typed up on and posted it it the few seconds. Go me xD!

Also - one of my friends has the link to this site where you can see which Invision Free servers are up and which ones are down. I don't have the link on this compy though =[

Sunday - June 1, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
Argh, now I can't get on z4, where my site is on. Darn.

Ashaaa =] -- here's the site: http://tachyondecay.net/php/bin/serverstatus.php

TwilightDawn -- I don't think InvisionFree is destined for failure... There may theoretically be less downtime and problems in lesser-known servers, but the lesser known the less advanced their technology is. Again, theoretically. IF provides a lot of services that other forum services don't have, or if they do, they only give it to paid accounts. That just makes sense; it's like that with nearly every product/service. ZetaBoards is still pretty new, so they don't expect everyone to go running to it. Right now it seems it's more like an option, not a necessity - for us or them.

Ashaaa =] - June 1, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
thank you Sunday <3

Buut XD That site says Z6 is up, however it isn't working for me. Actually - it says all of the IF boards are up..

Sunday - June 1, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
It might just mean the servers are online, not that they're showing up. Because they are working for some people.

vision_afar - June 1, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
Z9 and z14 have been working for me all day so far. Luckily, my own board is on z14. Must be karma, considering z14 used to be down all the freakin time last year or so ;D But I do hope it gets fixed asap, it's rather irritating.

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
I still wanna know why the purchased URL sites are still up. And not the free ones.

Issues In A Bottle - June 1, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
I think it might be the type of internet you have. Fire Fox, Internet Explore, Safari, ect. I know Fire Fox works.

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 10:35 PM (GMT)
I've checked on every browser on God's green earth except Safari. And it doesn't work.

Melly - June 1, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
I haven't been able to get onto z6 or z14 all day, but with that said, I have a friend who was able to get on when I couldn't. Its kind of irritating but w/e

Jalynn - June 1, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)
I can't access any, I just managed to get on here. But I have friend from the UK who is moving about out site with no trouble.

TwilightDawn - June 1, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
I think I deals with your ISP. Which means, like always, Verizon is being faggy.

Jalynn - June 1, 2008 11:10 PM (GMT)
I can't access here from the Main Link, but I can access it through View profile. Which I found very strange
