Title: Care Package Ideas
Description: for a friend
Shadow of the Rain - May 12, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Okay, so a close friend's grandmother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I wanted to kinda show support and help cheer her up by putting together a basket of goodies and such.
I already plan to make some cookies and some homemade candies, and I'll be including some Pocky and some Twizzlers (a fav of hers) as well, but my ideas end there.
That's where I need your help! Anyone have any ideas for anything else to make/buy to put in the basket? I wanted to include a few things for her family too, but I don't really know what would be good. It doesn't have to be just food items, either. Basically, if your grandparent had cancer, what would help cheer you up?
Also, if anyone knows of a recipe for pink cookies, I would love you forever. As long as it's a good recipe, though...like you've eaten it before and know it's tasty. :) I guess I could always add food dye to sugar cookies though...

Ok, if I was a grandmother, the first thing I'd want would be cards and other things like that from little grandchildren. So gather some cards from some grandchildren! I don't really know what else. Umm. Some photographs of pretty things? Flowers!

For the candy, check with your friend. Some people can do the sugar so play it safe.
Go to Joann's Fabric or any fabric store. Head to fleece section of the fabrics.
1. Pick out two pieces of fabric. One with panel image or flowers, something pretty.
2. Get plain color that matches the image.
3. Get about as much fabric as you want. 4.5 feet three yard is about the best length.
4. get home.
5. Lay out the fabric on the floor on piece on top of the other.
6. cut out the corners.
7. Do side and section of one side at a time and cut about 1 to 2 inch strips about 4 -5 inches deep into the blanket.
8. Tie them together.
9. do the whole blanket all four sides.
Putting it together will take about an hour. People love these this blankets and they are easy to care for just toss them in washer and dryer.

My godmother recently went through this. Her favorite gift was this book on different treatments and testimonies from survivors. You might look into that.

Bath salts and yummy-scented sort of lotions and bubbles and things like that. Maybe look into scents that are particularly therapeutic, like lavender. Maybe a package of stationery, with stamps! :]

Is this basket for your friend or for your friend's grandmother? I had assumed it was for your friend.
When my second daughter was born my sister made a similar basket for me, and it was by far my most favorite baby gift of all. She put in it:
• A cool gardening magazine for me and a DIY magazine for my husband
• Yummy lemon bars
• Scented soap
• A small cross-stitch project for me to do
• Baby thank you cards with stamps and a nice pen
• A nice card with some heartfelt words
It was so appreciated at that time of my life. Your basket idea is a great one -- you're a good friend.

Yeah, it was for my friend. Sorry I wasn't clearer. Though I did end up including a little gift bag or whatever for her grandmother, too, so these ideas were really helpful! Lotion was a really good idea, but while doing some research online I found out chemo can sometimes make you sensitive to smells, so I got unscented instead, and I got a book too.
Thanks so much for yall's help! I'm not Martha Stewart or anything, so it was hard to come up with ideas. Thanks again! I knew you guys would be able to help me. RPG-Directory: for all your random needs. ^_^
