Title: My Members Don't Like Sparkles...
Description: Skin critique?
AshBeanNun - May 10, 2008 05:36 AM (GMT)
The spirit moved me to make a new skin for A.G. because the old one looks far too cluttered, and I'm not happy with the legibility of the text. So I made a new skin. It originally had a sparkle theme instead of a leaf theme, and my members shot it down. A lot. Now I feel horribly inadequate and without sparkles. :cry:
Anyways,
here's my work-in-progress. What do you think? Anything stand out to you as awful, or mediocre, or excellent?
Colors are mostly set, but the forum header and icons/images throughout are still very much in the development process.

I think it looks great, personally! The color scheme is easy on the eyes, and everything looked wonderfully legible. And it looks so soft!! I don't even know if that's a proper word to describe it, but it's the only one that fits... soft. But soft in a good way! Like a bunny or a delicious marshmallow... and not like a yellow livered whelp or whatever slang you kids are using these days. ;]
You might change the link hover color to something slightly less drastic, though. And in regards to the header, I think it looks gorgeous, but at first glance my eyes only read FTER RADUATION! So it might be worthwhile to play around with that text a little bit more. Elsewise, I'd say good show!
And certainly good luck. =D

I agree, lovely skin, and it flows well. Good job!
I do think the a hover, as mentioned, is too noticeable. Maybe just make it a lighter variant of brown instead?
Also, a lot of people overlook this, but don't forget to skin this area as well:
.codebuttons { font-size: 10px; font-family: verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; vertical-align: middle }
.forminput, .textinput, .radiobutton, .checkbox { font-size: 11px; font-family: verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; vertical-align: middle }
You can add the backdround-color and border to make the buttons match your skin, so they don't all stick out due to being white.
Other things you may want to consider: upping the font size of the .maintitle (and possibly decreasing the padding), and decreasing the padding of the .titlemedium. Neither are necessary, of course. I just thought I'd suggest it, just in case you ended up liking the idea. :pink:

I like the colours, though as has been suggested - the hover link colour is a little much, and a bit hard to read.
If you want to keep the green in, maybe change your actual link colour TO green? A darker green, but then... Mousie always did like to have her links a different colour to the main text. Which I haven't done in a while... how odd.
It all looks fine to me though, and you've got nothing to worry about.

It's amazing! It's so cute and I love your logo.
A few tips though,
The link hover color, didn't seem so 'appropriate' for me, cause it takes that 'grayish' look from it.
the hover was really 'unreadable' so, if it's fine, you can still change it.
There... LOL good luck with your members ;)

I don't know that much about skinning, so I guess I can't really give a very good critique. I like the feel of it, though - it looks very well done.
