Title: Ebay Experiences!
Royle - April 7, 2008 02:35 PM (GMT)
Ok, so at 10 PM tonight, my PSP and 8 games will be online on Ebay. Just a general curiosity, how much do you think it'd go for? A few weeks ago, when I was originally planning on selling it, PSP's were going on average for about £120, now, when I just had a glance now, they're averaging around £60. So, what do you think will happen? I've put a reserve on it for £100, just in case, but I'm obviously hoping that it won't be needed.XD Because I'd like to get a DS Lite.
Also, I'm wandering how your 'ebaying' experiences have been, have you struck gold before or been left with misery? Tell me about your experiences too, I'd like to hear them. =D

eBay, Target and Costco, the three of them are my dad's life. :) I personally am terrible with prices of things so don't ask me. :p But we have gotten a lot of things from eBay and some good deals too!

I'm a bit of an E-bay addict. I'm constantly scouring the site for deals. Two years ago, my dad wanted to get me a $90 TV from Wal-Mart. I convinced him to get one similar to it on E-bay for $30. I bought a cosplay costume on E-bay, a Christmas present for a friend, and as of late, I've been looking for a good deal on a laptop for me and a new desktop for my dad.

Personally, I feel that generally cheap-ish things found on ebay are real, but a few years ago, I was looking for laptops and the such. Each one I'd found that was good and fairly cheap were all fakes. =| It's the one thing I'd advise to go to a real shop for; Laptops and Desktops. But other than that, I'd say look on ebay for everything. :p

To piggy-back on this, while a lot of you have buying experiences, can anyone share their selling experiences? Or, also, what you look for in an auction as a potential buyer? Pictures? Good, friendly descriptions, etc?
I'm thinking about running a miniature (like... Warhammer minis?) painting business off ebay, since I love painting minis and you can sell well-painted ones for a decent profit on ebay. I want to be a costumer-friendly as possible. =)
As for my own experiences, I have only ever purchased through ebay stores, so I can't say much about auctions.
As for the PSP price, since I don't know what inflation is like in the UK, but I think 60 would be a reasonable price. I do know that in USD, that's about 120 dollars, and I can buy a new PSP for only about forty (US) dollars more. Again, I don't know the UK pricing of a new PSP, so I don't know how different it is. Since you're throwing in eight games, however, I can understand raising the price.

I actually had an amazing experience buying an empty perfume bottle the other day...
First off, I did the whole Buy It Now thing. And I got a strange message a day or two afterwards, about my payment.
It had been refunded.
The amount of the shipping that she didn't use.
It wasn't much money at all but I've never seen that in practice, usually it's one of those "Hey, extra couple bucks for me!" things but the sheer manners of it made me giddy.
I got the package promptly, and it was covered in like, these hilarious happy-face heartshaped stickers. And flowers and things.
Overdone? Yes. Hilarious? You betcha. I couldn't stop laughing.
And the inside had not only my cheap little bottle, but 2 different funnels, a dropper and a tiny oil bottle to boot.
I was so charmed, it was nearing indecency.
She got a great review. And any time I need other bottles, totally using her service.
also, on a side note:

That's an awesome comic, nik, I thought of it automatically when I seen this topic. XD
Anyway, I've never had experience selling on ebay, but I have made a couple purchases through the site. I won a Stephen King book (it was cheap, so it was pretty exciting) and a Beatle's poster of Abbey Road. Both went over really well, no complications and what not... so I'll probably look around there again sometime. But I tend to become addicted to sites like this, so I have to take a break from it every couple weeks or I'll become broke. -_-

First let me say that I love ebay. I have a very bittersweet relationship with it because I sell and buy on there. And while I would like to say that I stay on top, I always spend more then I make.
When it comes to selling, I think buyers really pay attention to a few key points. Your rating as a seller is important. Feedback is important. If you have a item that is a hot seller but have a terrible feedback score, you will get less for it. People want to be sure that they are going to get what they paid for. Another issue is shipping. Having high shipping is something that affects the amount you will get for an item. The more they have to pay for shipping the less they will have to pay towards the item itself. Pictures are always good, if you plan to sell more then just a few items a month you might want to look at companies that help you spruce up your auctions. It offers different background and more photo options.
When I am looking to buy from someone or when I am selling these things are the most important. Also paypal will be your hero. It’s good to use paypal because you can file a complaint if you are ripped off in any way. Often they will force the seller into paying you back or they will refund you up to a certain amount.
As for selling items, it’s hit or miss. I wanted a vintage toy that I had as a child. For weeks when I saw one it went for 50.00 USD and the other day I won it for 13.00 USD. So really with certain items it all about when it’s posted and who wants it.
