Title: Serif Or Sans-Serif
Description: Online body text preference

Does it make any difference to you whether or not the main font for a site/forum is serif (Times New Roman, Georgia etc) or sans-serif (Arial, Verdana etc)? Do you find one much easier to read than the other?

Offline, I prefer serif fonts, but online I like my text to be sans-serif. It's easier each way for me (although it's less important offline). It is a little off-putting for me to see a site where the main content (and not header text etc) is serif. What about you?

I prefer Sans-Serif, i find it much easier to read.

Mostly beacuse its a softer font, and really i don't mind Serif in main content as long as its no smaller than 12pt. My eyes just went from -2 to -2.75 so i really appreciate sites with Sans-Serif and legible sized font. Though over the last two years my eyes have been getting worse by leaps and bounds; thank you oh-mighty and bad genetics. So, Sans-Serif please.

I have phases... lately I've been in a serif phase. Georgia is love. But when I go sans-serif, it's all about Century Gothic... depends on my mood, though this serif thing has lasted a while. :D

I have to confess, Mousie, that Tally being all in serif was what sparked this poll. I went to see the new skin etc. (which is very nice) but found I couldn't read very well because of the serif fonts everywhere. All the serifs proved too distracting, especially when the line-heights are quite small.

Haha, awesome. Inspiration forever.

We're still working out some skin issues... it's not my skin, and therefore I hate it. I'm doing a crash-course in skinning IPB to fix the problem. XD The main issue for me is the white and the line height...

Eeeh.

Sans-Serif. Much easier to read.

This may look neat, but it's harder to read. And since I'm a bad reader, it's just easier for me to stick with sans.

I was going to say it doesn't matter but seeing that example made me agree. Sans it is.

I love serif fonts, but only as headers and things. Never, ever as the main body of the text. Similarly, nothing too small.

I have to say, I am so font-prejudice about this I won't even read posts that are in a serif font, or a tiny font (I mean, obviously, since your writing is small, you must not have much to say, right? XD) In all sincerity, though, it bothers my eyes since I have really poor eyesight.

I'm the minority here, but I prefer Serif over Sans serif. Serif fonts were meant to be easier to read. The little line-thingys at the ends of the letters help the eye follow the text. Its especially helpful if there is a lot of text. If there isn't a lot of text, I just prefer the look of serif fonts anyways. lol

Please notice that this site uses San-Serifs. XD

The thing with San-Serifs is, as long as there isn't giants gobs of text, they're easy to read anywhere, especially on the internet. The Serif is better black on white background, where it can be seen easier and the little serifs (The little part of the letter that sorta sticks out) and strokes won't be lost in the background.

And thus, on the internet, San-Serifs are king. *nods*

Although, after discovering Georgia, I may change my mind...Oldstyle Figures are the best. <3333
