OK, so I'm admin of a role-play forum and I want to pull an April Fool's Day Prank on my members. Does anyone have any ideas? Or is it just too mean spirited?

If you are really close to your members but don't want to do anything to upset them, I have an idea.
Make common words like happy, smile, said, asked, kiss, etc. to something very silly. Like:
Happy=futter weiner
Smile=Fool's day
Said= as they showed their butt
Asked=Got ran over
Kiss=WTF! GROSS!
Something like that. And they change back the words the next day.

Haha, one of my admins had the idea to change everyone on my HP board into My Little Ponies xD Oh boy.
It's not mean-spirited if you make it fun. It would be mean if you were to say that a member had died or the board was closing or something.

If I'd thought fast enough, I would have put on a garish orange and blue layout.. that would have been amusing for me.

What's also fun is to make all the catagories dissapear, and only leave one (like the rules&guideliens or news or something). If you go to your acp > Manage Forums >catagory > 'edit', you can change the 'Category State', set it to 'hidden from forum list. Then they can only access it via the url, but I think it still shows up in that forum drop down box you find in every forum/thread (on RPG-D it's in the bottom right-hand corner (it now says RPG-D Lounging (+3 sub-forums). I think that might give your members a bit of a scare XD.

I just changed the skin layout and the website layout. One of my admins has freak out so far. Highly amusing.

I changed all the group colours and buttons.
On my site Admins are Purple, Moderators are White and members vary depending on their house.
They also have an icon showing their group.
Today though, all staff are "Banned" and everyone are "Admins". :p

Last year, my co-mod (who was just a member of the game I ran at the time) submitted a Queen of the Mary Sues application to my old Star Wars game, and I didn't know until after I had made a post at bad_rpers_suck on Livejournal that it was an April Fool's joke.
This year, he's the co-mod of a different Star Wars game that I run and he changed the layout to Hello Kitty. It plays the Hello Kitty theme song over and over and over again. I have the volume turned down because I had four tabs open.
This year, at least, he told me in advance, so I was prepared for it.

My co-admin on SotE got the idea for word filters, so we just went through and added some filters to weird stuff so...yeah...every post has been reduced to text speak and mudkips! xDD

Way moar than MUDKIP'd ever seen in his life, MUDKIP was sure. & there desu desu desu was, just a little girl on teh ground, teh owner up a tree, just begging 2 be taken. NOOOO 1 else around. NOOOO 1 else that would care, that is. desu desu desu was a once in a lifetime chance, & teh set-up was perfect for a smooth getaway. By teh time that guy got down, MUDKIP'd be off. Hesitation gone, Vahni sauntered over toward teh tree casually, still hugging himself 2 keep warm but also 2 come across as just a casual, curious onlooker. MUDKIP looked over toward teh girl, then followed her gaze up 2 teh tree & blinked as though seeing that sight for teh first time. desu desu desu was kind of teh truth, 2, since MUDKIP hadn't noticed teh cat b4. Aw...kitty. MUDKIP hoped if teh tree got struck, teh cat made desu desu desu. "Oi! u! Tree-guy! Ya might wanna be careful. Yer gonna get fried," MUDKIP called up 2 teh cat-rescuer. That's hilarious guys XD. God, I was I couldd have come up with something awesome, but I'm not much for pranks and stuff on april 1st.
I did have a big problem yesterday taking all the news on the radio seriously lol.
